Congratulations to Momtrends: the SocialMoms Blog of the Week!

I’ll admit I’m kind of a fashion junkie, but it’s hard to stay on top of all of the trends – not when you’ve got work, kids, and a house to contend with. That’s what I love about Momtrends. The site launched in 2007 and continues to provide the latest news on things trendy and cool for moms. You’ll find regular tips for living well and making the most out of motherhood, profiles of inspiring Momtrenpreneurs, wellness links, fashion trend alerts and tons of great giveaways and reviews. I had the chance to ask Nicole Feliciano, founder of Momtrends a few questions.

SM: What was your inspiration for starting Momtrends

The intersection of motherhood and style. When I left my job at Ralph Lauren, I couldn’t let go of my editor’s eye for great style. I decided to use my talents for sourcing the best fashions and gear for moms. While I miss Madison Avenue, I and so fulfilled being able to make fashion and design fun and accessible to moms everywhere.

SM: What has most surprised you about running the site?

Two things. One the upside, I am amazed by the women I encounter that run small businesses from home. My lawyer, my designer, my marketing manager–all moms working from home all with amazing talent sets. Who knew there was this entire workforce waiting to be tapped! The other thing that has surprised me? How much time it takes to run Momtrends. I’m easily working 40 hours a week now. But there’s no commute, and my boss (me!) is very generous about flexible time off.

SM: What are you most passionate about?

Living a life that is full and beautiful. I try to avoid doing things that don’t add to my life somehow. I try to surround myself by things that are useful and beautiful. That doesn’t mean expensive. It means careful editing and saying “NO” more than “YES.”

SM: What is the most popular section of your site?

Fashion! I carefully watch our analytics and whenever we feature a what/how to wear a trend it gets a ton of views. And the celebrity mom interviews are extremely popular too. Just this month we got to sit down with Sarah Jessica Parker and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Pretty cool.

SM: What is your favorite part of blogging?
The creativity. I get to write about whatever strikes my fancy and I get to do it around my family’s schedule. I’m brimming with ideas–blogging gives me an outlet for my creative energy. And let’s not forget about all the amazing women I’ve met in the 6 years I’ve been a blogger. They inspire me.
