The fashion magazines are crammed full of beautiful new shoe styles to take you from the early fall months into the cold, gray days of winter.  Here’s what everyone is buzzing about in terms of fantastic footwear trends this season:

Ballet Flats

Ballet flats are still in play this fall.  The difference is they are going beyond solid colored flats from years past and into textures, prints and jewels.  Colors still make a splash but so do prints like Steve Madden’s leopard with pink trim.  Capped toes in shiny gold or ankle-strapped versions are all the rage too.  Metal-studded styles, ones with bows or polka-dots can be found as well.  Pair the ballet flat with jeans in all styles from tailored to skinny and dresses too.  They make it an easy way to dress up your look each day.

Ankle Booties

Last year we saw the rise of the ankle bootie and while some wished hard for its demise it isn’t happening any time soon.  Take heart though – the styles have matured and come in both flat and high heeled versions.  Dressed up or down there are many ways to work a bootie into your wardrobe.  Some of the best I have seen are the menswear inspired Aberdeen two-tone by Madewell, tough moto Everhart boots by Diba and simple Britt’s by Chinese Laundry.

Loafers & Moccasins

Loafers and moccasins are big! Stylish, comfortable and from casual suede to pumped up patent leather, these two shoe styles are great for weekend looks as well as a day at the office.  Always a big fan of the driving moccasin – I am in love with the fall colors like pumpkin orange, turquoise or oxblood.  Worn at work they take your plain old khaki’s up several notches.  A great option is a pair like Cole Haan’s ‘Sabrina’ suede style or a metallic encrusted with a bit of a heel.

Classic Pumps

Classic heels are back too.  Pumps with thin heels, decorated, jeweled or textured, and square and chunky heels were all over the runways. Choose a lower chunky heel for a vintage look or grab some height and go retro glam. Vince Camuto’s ‘Verona’ is a great example.  Pointed toes heels are a good choice too.  The classic pump can literally be worn with anything from pencil thin jeans to flare leg trousers, a wrap dress, cocktail sheath or anything in between.  Keep them simple or go big and bold with brocaded fabrics and vibrant tones.

Shoes can really make an outfit and add flare to your day.  Choose a pair that shows your inner style and you will find many ways to wear them many times over.
