Blog of the Week: Miss O Moms
November 20, 2011
Congratulations to Miss O Moms: the SocialMoms Blog of the Week!
I really like that this site started off as a tween website and then spun off into mom territory. Usually it’s the other way around. And as a mom of a tween myself, I find myself definitely interested in what Hermine has to say:
SM: What was your inspiration for starting Miss O Moms
We initially launched our site, www.missoandfriends.com, which is now rated #3 worldwide for “girls only” and 100% safe and realized how important it was for moms to know exactly what their young tween daughters were online. After many emails directly from moms to me about our site, content, advice on tweens, etc., I decided we needed a place for moms to go to communicate with each other focused on “Moms…with girls” and be able to participate in conversations, play games, blog, enter contests, and do what our tween girl audience loves.
SM: What has most surprised you about running the site?
As a designer by trade, the “look” of the site is very important, so the initial design stage was a bit overwheming! The researching of images for each section & design of the layouts of the pages took more time than expected. My mission is for the reader to enjoy the visual experience as well and the content vs getting overwhelmed by not knowing where to click next.
SM: What are you most passionate about?
Helping build self-esteem, both in young girls and women. It’s so hard out there for us women and it starts at such a young age. If I can make a difference with our youth by building a foundation where they can feel good about themselves, (which is our mission on our website) then growing up, becoming an adult, dealing with life’s issues, becomes that much easier.
SM: What is the most popular section of your site?
The homepage gets the most hits but after that moms visit the link about Miss O & Friends, Miss O’s mom (that’s me) and then our game section. Right now the Katy Perry dress up game is the most popular!
SM: What is your favorite part of blogging?
I love keeping current, researching subjects that are of interest to other women, writing them and finding pictures that enhance the readers enjoyment. I also love seeing other women contribute to our site as featured bloggers. Our Mom site is fairly new and we’re on the lookout for some great bloggers to share their stories. Contact us and let’s talk!
