Seasons are fleeting. We look forward to them and then they’re gone in a flash, so the more we can squeeze in and savor, the better. After a summer at the shore or the pool, it’s time to throw on warmer clothes and embrace the magic of the season.

Here are a few ideas for your fall weekend bucket list.

Football

Nothing says fall like football! Play a game of flag football on the lawn with family and friends, attend a high school or college game, or invite friends over to watch on Sunday. Tailgating with a huge table of drinks and tasty snacks is part of the fun.

Pumpkins

From picking to decorating, it’s not fall without pumpkins. The experience of picking pumpkins on a farm (and the hayride that often goes with it) is a fabulous fall experience. Let everyone in the family carve their own pumpkin and use them to decorate indoors or out.

Festivals Galore

From apple cider to roasted corn, mazes, and music, weekends at family fall festivals are exhilarating and relaxing at the same time. Create some magical memories by visiting one or more this year.

Apple Time

‘Tis the season for this awesome fruit! Pick ’em, bake ’em, and enjoy ’em however you like! Preparing homemade apple pie, apple crisp, or applesauce is a delicious way to savor the season.

Autumn Crafts

Even teenagers can find inspiration on Pinterest and make a centerpiece or craft to decorate the house. Little kids love making seasonal crafts like leaf projects, macaroni scarecrows, or anything Halloween-themed.

Harvest Baking

It’s the perfect season to bake pumpkin and zucchini bread, as these harvest vegetables  are abundant everywhere. Make a few extra loaves to freeze or give to a friend or neighbor.

Fallen leaves

It’s the ultimate autumn activity: building a pile of leaves and jumping into it or running through it.  It’s a great excuse to get the kids outside—you may even be able to persuade them to do a little raking.

Weekend Away

A crisp fall weekend is restorative for the mind, body, and soul. Enjoy a couple of days in nature, hiking around a lake and picnicking in a forest of changing colors.

Farmer’s Markets

Where I live, farmer’s markets end mid-November, so there are only a few short weeks left to go. Support your local farmers, get fresh in-season veggies, and enjoy the free samples with your kids.

Hot Meals

The change of seasons means a shift to heartier fare. Experiment with your slow cooker and make batches of rich, tasty, stews and chilis to serve on cold evenings.

What’s on your fall bucket list?
