Can you believe the Winter Olympics are in full swing? Do you remember how difficult it used to be to watch the events you cared about when the Games were held in a different timezone? Fortunately, technology has made it much easier to get in on the action without breaking a sweat.
Here’s a guide to catching your favorite events in PyeongChang, Korea.
Athletes are competing through Sunday, February 25th. If you’re planning to watch on television, the Games will be broadcast on NBC, NBCSN, and all of the NBC Universal networks (see the competition schedules and TV listings here). If you are watching on-the-go, everything is available on NBCOlympics.com or the NBC Sports app (see live streaming schedules here).
If you can’t watch all the events, you still don’t have to miss the Olympic highlights. The Podium, a new podcast, will be releasing a daily recap of the previous days’ competitions, any news or stories that developed overnight, and a preview of the day ahead. You can access the podcast on Apple Podcasts across all Apple devices including Apple TV and CarPlay, as well as other platforms for iOS and Android.
Incredibly, NBC Olympics will be presenting more than 50 hours of live VR Coverage to authenticated users via the NBC Sports VR app. Pretty cool.
You can take advantage of this VR capacity on both iOS and Android platforms with the compatible Windows Mixed Reality headsets, Samsung Gear VR, and both Google Cardboard and Google Daydream. The Complete VR schedule can be found here.
The closing events will take place at the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium and will be available for streaming at 6am EST on February 25th, or you can watch the NBC broadcast on NBC at 8pm EST.
The theme of the Olympics this year is “perseverance.” PyeongChang mayor, Seok-Rae Lee, will be on hand to pass the Olympic flag to International Olympics Committee President, Thomas Bach, who will then extend it to Chen Jining, the mayor of Beijing, where the next Winter Olympics will be held in 2022.
The Olympics are a great excuse to kick back, have fun, and celebrate amazing athletes from around the world who demonstrate that the impossible is possible after all. Plan some viewing parties, gather round, and enjoy the transnational global excitement.
