Beautiful Blueberries
May 15, 2017
Blueberries aren’t just delicious, they’re packed with Vitamins C, E and A, and rich in antioxidants, too. These ingredients are thought to diminish signs of aging, maintain healthy hair and skin, fight dark spots, and increase circulatory health–which means fewer varicose veins. Did you know that the little blueberry even eases hormone-induced breakouts? Find out how to incorporate more of this miracle fruit into your daily routine.
Superfood
Blueberries are back in season, so take advantage of all this little wrinkle fighter has to offer. Mix some fresh berries into your muffins or morning pancakes. Toss them on cereal or salad, and add them to summer beverages. A couple of recipe ideas:
- Blueberry Blast Smoothie: Combine 1 cup frozen blueberries, ½ cup low-fat milk or almond milk, ½ cup low-fat plain yogurt (vanilla can also be used), 1 tsp. of honey in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add ice to create a cold treat on a hot summer day.
- Blueberry Power Smoothie: Combine ½ cup fresh or frozen blueberries, 1 cup kale or spinach, 1 cup water, juice squeezed from half a lemon, ½ a banana, ½ cup strawberries, 1 stalk of celery in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add a few ice cubes to thicken the juice and 1 teaspoon of honey to sweeten if desired.
Blueberry Beauty Tips
Add blueberries to your daily beauty routine:
- Fresh Face Mask: Blueberries brighten your complexion, smooth skin by exfoliation, and seal in moisture. Try this mask first thing in the morning. Combine 5-6 blueberries (fresh or frozen) , 1 tbsp. of oats (blend while dry for a smooth application), 1 tsp. of raw honey. Apply to face and let the mask sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water. If you didn’t blend the oats before mixing, rub the mask off using a circular motion to exfoliate skin.
Create face packs using blueberries with lemon, oats, honey, aloe, and curd. Find ways to nourish your hair and create healthy locks with your own DIY hair masks, too. Blueberries prevent oily hair and clarify the scalp.
