Popeye was on to something. Spinach is loaded with all sorts of green goodness such as calcium, iron, vitamin, magnesium, manganese, potassium, vitamin A, folate, vitamin B2, and vitamin B6. So why don’t we eat more of it? Well, as a general rule, spinach isn’t exactly popular, especially with the younger generation. Enter the spinach smoothie. It sounds gross but if you add enough fruit, you’ll never taste it.

The following are a few different smoothie recipes to get in a daily serving of spinach.

Strawberry Spinach Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • Strawberry yogurt
  • 1 cup apple juice (if you have a juicer, the juice from 3 apples is best)
  • 1 cup packed spinach (organic is best as this is a leaf plant that is directly exposed to pesticides when grown on a non-organic farm)
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • ½ frozen banana

Directions:

Place yogurt, apple juice, and spinach in a high powered blender and blend until liquid mixture. Add more juice as needed for desired consistency. Add strawberries and banana. Blend into a thick, frosty smoothie.

Mixed Berry Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 cup packed spinach

Directions:

Place yogurt, orange juice, and spinach in blender and blend until it becomes liquid. Add more juice as needed. Add berries. Blend into a thick frosty, smoothie
