Meghan and Kate’s Royal Christmas Plans, Savannah Guthrie’s Scary Eye Injury, Khloe Kardashian’s Awkward Thank You and More!

It’s December. The final month of the year. In fact, it’s the final month of this DECADE! We’re always talking about how time flies, but seriously, this is mind-blowing. Now, we’re getting ready for the 20s—will it be as roaring as the 1920s? We’ll have to wait and see. For now, let’s catch up on how our favorite famous mothers are starting these last few weeks of 2019.
What Are Meghan and Kate Doing For Christmas?
These days, you can’t talk about celebrity moms without mentioning Meghan and Kate. Respectively, the Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge, have very different plans for this holiday season, which is fitting because they live very different lives!
Meghan and Prince Harry have decided to take several weeks off from official royal duties in order to focus on some much-needed family time. That’s what most of us try to do this time of year, right? Rather than doing the annual Christmas walk to church and spending the holiday at Sandringham with the Queen, they’ll be taking 7-month-old Archie to Los Angeles to see Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland.
While Prince William and Kate have also skipped the royal Christmas to spend time with her family, they will be heading to Sandringham with their three kids—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—this year.
William and Kate also found time to do something a little fun. The royal couple teamed up with British culinary star, Mary Berry, to cook up a televised holiday special. In addition to preparing some of their favorite recipes, they’ll be highlighting some of their favorite causes. The BBC special, A Berry Royal Christmas, airs on December 16th.
Savannah Guthrie’s Scary Eye Injury
Moms are used to getting hurt by kids’ toys—have you ever stepped on a piece of LEGO in the middle of the night? There’s no pain quite like it. Usually, though, we can just shake it off and go about our day. Unfortunately, TODAY show host, Savannah Guthrie, wasn’t as lucky after her 2-year-old son hit her in the eye with the sharp end of a toy train.
Diagnosed with a form of retinal detachment, Guthrie has been undergoing daily laser surgery treatments in order to heal from the injury and restore her vision. While she says that the situation is improving every day, she won’t know the full prognosis for another couple of weeks. In the meantime, she says her vision is still blurry, as if she’s wearing just “one contact in and one out.” We hope she has a speedy recovery!
Khloe Kardashian’s Awkward Thank You
Even if you don’t watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians (like me!), you’ve probably heard all about the drama Khloe Kardashian went through with Tristan Thompson. First, he was spotted spending time with a woman just days before Khloe gave birth to their daughter, True. One can only imagine how devastating it was to discover your partner has been allegedly unfaithful as you prepare to welcome a child.
Then, as they were trying to heal from that betrayal and move forward as a family, Thompson was again caught up in a questionable situation with Jordyn Woods, the former best friend of Kylie Jenner, Khloe’s younger sister. It’s no surprise, therefore, that Khloe has distanced herself from the romantic relationship and has focused on co-parenting instead.
In the most recent episode of the show, Khloe is shown talking to Thompson and True over FaceTime when he ended the call by saying “All right, love you.” Khloe responded with, “Bye…thank you!” Friends, Malika and Khadijah Haqq, were in the room and they had to laugh at the uncomfortable exchange, prompting Khloe to explain, “I don’t know what to say. I just think now, I’ve already seen how this ride goes and I don’t enjoy it. So it’s like, why would I want to do it for a third time?”
While Khloe has said that she’s forgiven Thompson for the sake of their daughter, she didn’t know how to respond to him giving her a diamond necklace and promise ring later in the episode. She explained that she appreciates the gesture, but no longer wants to be with him. Which is understandable. Many of us who have gone through a breakup or a divorce can probably relate to how complicated these moments can be!
