Fall 2019 TV Shows: What’s Premiering?

Remember when the networks put a lot of effort into promoting the new and returning shows each fall? With so many accessing programming through devices, we don’t really see that anymore and it can be hard to know what’s on the lineup. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered!

For the list of shows that have been renewed, check out this post. Here’s the list of shows making their television debut for the Fall 2019 season!

ABC

Sticking with their family-friendly format, ABC’s lineup includes an adaptation of the Israeli series, Beauty and the Baker, a love story about a simple baker and an international supermodel, and a prequel for Black-ish. Here’s what to look for:

• The Baker and the Beauty (stars Victor Rasuk and Nathalie Kelley)
• Emergence (stars Allison Tolman)
• For Life (stars Mary Stuart Masterson)
• Mixed-ish (Black-ish prequel)
• United We Fall (stars Will Sasso)
• Untitled Cobie Smulders Drama (based on Stumptown graphic novels)

While we still don’t have a name for the series starring Smulders, ABC is clearly banking on the fact that audiences see her in an action role. When she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she left her How I Met Your Mother days behind and now she’ll take on the role of private investigator, Dex Parios.

CBS

After years on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, it’s no surprise to see Marg Helgenberger in a CBS lineup. Her upcoming series focuses on a different side of the justice system and follows judges, prosecutors, and public defenders in a Los Angeles courthouse.

• Bob Hearts Abisola (stars Billy Gardell)
• Broke (stars Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette)
• Carol’s Second Act (stars Patricia Heaton)
• Evil (stars Westworld‘s Katja Herbers)
• FBI: Most Wanted (spinoff starring Julian McMahon)
• Tommy (stars Edie Falco)
• The Unicorn (stars Walton Goggins)

It will be interesting to see Edie Falco in Tommy. After years as the wife of a mobster on HBO’s The Soprano and then a prescription drug-addicted healthcare provider on Nurse Jackie, she’ll star as the first female police chief of the Los Angeles police department. 

The CW

After the tragic and untimely death of Luke Perry, Riverdale fans must be looking forward to something uplifting. The spinoff series, Katy Keene, should be popular from day one, but then again, nothing’s ever guaranteed. 

• Batwoman (stars Ruby Rose)
• Katy Keene (Riverdale spinoff starring Lucy Hale and Ashleigh Murray)
• Nancy Drew (stars newcomer Kennedy McMann)

Meanwhile, in an age where female superheroes are becoming more common, many will be thrilled to see Batwoman coming to The CW. There’s little doubt that Ruby Rose won’t do it justice!

FOX

Over at FOX, the loss of Luke Perry will undoubtedly be felt by the cast of the upcoming revival, BH90210. The original cast (yes, all of them!) have reunited to take us back to the Peach Pit, but Dylan McKay won’t be with them. It’s pretty sad for long-time fans!

• BH90210 (premieres August 7)

• Deputy (stars True Detective’s Stephen Dorff)
• Duncanville
• Filthy Rich (stars Kim Cattrall)

• Prodigal Son (stars Michael Sheen)
• Outmatched (stars Jason Biggs)
• Untitled Jason Katims Drama (Based on Australia’s Sisters, starring Brittany Snow and Emily Osment)

The vibe over here on FOX definitely feels like an 80s and 90s revival with Rob Lowe, Kim Cattrall, and Jason Biggs in the lineup. Only time will tell whether this is a good thing!

NBC

What’s an NBC season without something starring Jimmy Smits? Is anyone old enough to remember when he starred on the hit series, L.A. Law which ran from 1986 to 1994? It’s great to see him back on the small screen.

• Council of Dads (stars Clive Standen)
• Indebted (stars Fran Drescher, Adam Pally and Abby Elliott)
• The Kenan Show (stars Kenan Thompson)
• Law & Order: Hate Crimes (being redeveloped)
• Lincoln (stars Russell Hornsby and Arielle Kebbel)
• Perfect Harmony (stars Bradley Whitford)
• Sunnyside (stars Kal Penn)
• Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (stars Jane Levy)

It’s also pretty cool to see Fran Drescher (The Nanny) in a new series and many people are excited for The Kenan Show. NBC seems to be trying to balance the drama with laughs, and that’s a great strategy. Sometimes that network feels a little too heavy.

Overall, this looks like a great lineup for the Fall 2019 season. All that’s missing is a little popcorn, a pumpkin spice drink, and a cozy blanket. We’re ready!
