Locking hubs are devices that are used to lock the wheels of a vehicle in place. They are often used on off-road vehicles, such as trucks and SUVs, to prevent the wheels from spinning when the vehicle is not in motion.
Locking hubs can also be used on vehicles that are not equipped with four-wheel drive, but they are not as common.
The toughest truck around gets a new-look hub through distribution. Theyre built to take the beatings modified rigs with bigger tires can dish out. With heat treated gears all metal cap and dial and corrosion-resistant stainless steel hardware theyll shine on the job for years to come.
Easy install turn dial and maintenance but darn hard to break.
I had one of my stock Ford hubs chew itself apart after 100,000 miles leaving one side stuck in 4-wheel drive. These looked like more metal and less plastic than the stock Ford hubs. After spending a morning installing, I clicked one into the locked position and the metal dial popped right out, behind it was a broken plastic race holding it in place.
I already bought less expensive Ford stock ones and will rip these poorly designed hubs off this weekend and return them. This is my first Warn purchase, not impressed at all with the quality, stick to the stock ones.
Easy replacement! Hopefully it’s more reliable than the factory Ford hubs. I’ve had 2 fail so far. It’s nice that they include plugs for the vacuum lines to the OEM “auto” hubs.

This HUB is great at least from the little that I do know about it. It looked the same as the original with only one actual visual difference an that was it didn’t say Ford on the middle part that you actually spin.

I have not used these yet. Restoring a 79 Chevy truck that will mostly cruise on the street, so I probably won’t get much use out of the locking hubs. Nonetheless, install was fairly straightforward.
Instructions were clear, and they appear to be solid construction and robust. Chrome/polished finish is nice, too.
I’ve had their Mile Marker Hub #426 on my 1998 Ford ranger pick up truck for the past 5 years they are very simple to install and work outstanding. As long as you service them properly they will work like a charm.
I recently spoke to the service department and they treated me with respect to care of my problem I recommend them all day long. Mile maker eye thank you✌️.
My 94 bronco had the driver side auto hub lockup on the highway. Not a fun day. Had both sides swapped within an hour. Must have a spindle nut socket a torque wrench for 200lb They work great no issues.

I have had MileMarker hubs in multiple different straight axle Chevy trucks and have not had a problem until now. The first set I purchased must have been machined incorrectly, as one of them would not seat fully into the hub body, which was also brand new (Raybestos).
However, when I spoke to customer service, a gentleman was very understanding and he promptly shipped out a new pair, which fit just fine. I was disappointed in the down time and inconvenience, but Summit did right by me.
I cannot blame them for “things not being made like they used to”.
Easy install for replacing manual locking hubs on my 96 Ford Bronco. They look very durable and have a heavy duty quality feel when you turn them to lock in the axle. The turn is about 320 degrees whereas the stock hubs were about 120 degrees.
As usual Summit ordering and item pick up was flawless and quick.
This locking hub kit is very easy to install and looks really good on the truck. It comes with everything you need to include new snap rings and mounting bolts. It has a smooth lock and unlock action and works better then the OEM lock hub.

I installed another manufacturers manual hubs on my 1999 Ford Ranger 15 years ago, after the vacuum system left me without 4 wheel drive while snowplowing. This year, I thought I would perform maintenance and greased one of the hubs and oiled the other to test performance.
I learned NEVER NEVER NEVER grease these types of hubs as the one I greased bound and snapped off!! I was so glad to find Rugged Ridge locking hubs at Summit and they arrived quickly, 1 day before a large snow storm.
I oiled them a good 30 weight oil, as suggested by the manufacturer, snapped them on and they have worked flawlessly since. I also want to mention that if you ever need to remove these hubs, do not use a screwdriver! You can insert several small jig saw blades around the hub at each of the clip sections.
Slowly squeeze them all together and the unit will come off without breaking the plastic tabs. I would definitely buy these hubs again!.
Was considering locking hubs for a little while when my vacuum hubs quit working, so I decided rather than mess around and try to find the leak in my vacuum lines somewhere I’d rather spend the money and improve on what I had.
It was well worth the money, I’m on a budget so I was hesitant but after 10 minutes to install them they work flawlessly. I have the 4. 0 Liter V6 in my Ranger and after replacing the hubs plus fresh plugs and wires I’m getting around 18-21 mpg out of her.
The front end is so much quieter, the only noise I hear is my tires now, definitely a great decision!! The fit is perfect for the hub caps to fit over them, but I’d rather they be a little longer so I could just cut the center out of the hub caps out and have the hubs stick out through for easy access.
As is I’d have to remove the hub cap everytime I was to access my hubs. I could still cut the hole in the hub cap but it’d fill with dirt and grime. I haven’t had them on for too long to test them out real thoroughly, but so far they’ve been great!.
I had auto locking hubs on my 98 ford ranger and replaced them with these. These made a huge difference in the truck! The whole replacement only took me 15 minutes. YouTube videos and forums will say you need a special ford tool for removing the old hubs, but I just broke off the plastic tabs and removed the old hubs.
Another thing you need to do is remove the vacuum lines and plug them or else these may get engaged or disengaged. Overall great product.
G2 freewheeling hubs are a strong, durable, high quality locking hub designed as a direct replacement to factory hubs. They provide strength and reliability needed for heavy off-road use. An all-metal design ensures that these hubs can handle the punishment of off-road use and remain operational in the roughest environments.

Just as advertised, excellent fit and simple to install. Ready to install right out of the box and took less that 20 minutes to do both side. Very well pleased with these
After picking my truck up from a family member I couldn’t lock the hubs because the guts were missing on one side. The install was a breeze. Just in time for some nasty rounds of bad weather in Colorado where 4×4 was a necessity.
Summit Racing shipped this out the same day and I received them in two days.

The hubs don’t engage automatically. The writing on the front of the hub that shows whether it’s engaged or free came off during installation. Would not buy these hubs again.
This is the second OEM type hub that I bought, to match another one that was put on last year. It works fine. The quality is excellent, price was great. Delivered right on time. Really, it exceeds expectations.

They look great. Install was easy. No issues working. I’ve only locked them twice. The only issue I have is with mile markers warrenty url. Isn’t available. Emailed them no reply back. So, I’m guessing they won’t allow you to warrenty the product so they don’t have to replace.
Hopefully Summit will help me out if I have issues since they sell their product.
Installation took more work, due to having a dually. It requires the wheel and the dually spacer removal before you can install the new hub. Hub install was simple and instructions were easy. Local parts store knew nothing about the product, so had to call Mile Marker direct and they were very helpful.
1993 Ford E350 Van, 460 engine, Dana 60 front axle. Easy installation, had to look at the retaining ring picture a couple of times, though. Added o rings to retaining screws and a bit of grease to dial surface, even though instructions said not to.
They lock and unlock easily, even without the plastic piece designed to help you turn the dial. I like that the dial is flush with the outside of the hub. My old standard Warns had the dial proud of the hub, resulting in a broken dial.
I like the Warn style spring to engage the hub, but the MM style should be fine. For half the price of Warns, it was worth it to me.

I purchased these hub lockouts as a replacement for the fragile and complicated ESOF hub lockouts on my 04 Ford F250. The cost of this pair was about half of one of the replacement OEM hubs that were seized and I still had other vacuum issues above the hubs to solve.
I am pretty sure the vacuum solenoid was also gone. These both installed in under an hour but I think one more split ring shim would make for a more secure install. The lockouts with the single ring installed can still move in and out in the hub housing about the width that a second ring would be.
The locking/unlocking action is smooth and easy so no complaints there. If I had to mention one serious annoyance is that the height of the new lockout is about 1. 5″ shorter than the stock hub lockout so it is recessed in an area below the opening in the open-center Ford 4wd front hub caps.
Not only does it look like garbage and encourages mud and debis trapping but I have big hands and reaching through the hub cap opening is such a chore I just removed the front hub caps entirely. This also doesn’t look very good but at least function is 100% and I don’t end up packing the open hub caps with mud.
I would recommend these on cost and dependability alone. The recent ice storm found me without a way to make the front axle engage in 4wd with the messed up ESOF and unless you truly test it basically daily you have no data from the truck that will tell you it is not working at the front hub locks.
If you can not lock the transfer case the truck will tell you, with the front hubs, you’re on your own and both parts of the system have to be working to get the 4wd working. These manual locks remove the doubt one way or the other in the matter and if you get yourself in a sticky situation you need things to work.
The WARN 20990 Premium Manual Hubs offers all metal construction with wave spring technology that increases reliability over standard coil springs. Zinc aluminum alloy dial seals, ensures years of reliable functioning by keeping contaminants out.
It is controlled through tough OEM manufacturing requirements. Offers ; 9/10 turn dial for robust engagement/disengagement. This is a pair (2) of internal mount hubs, for use with 19 spline axles, compatible with many different vehicles.
Bought these for a restoration project to replace a set I purchased 30 years ago because my first set are corroded. The new ones do not rotate as well and the detent in the locked position feels vague.
Warn has always been the industry standard for any thing off road related, especially the locking hubs. They rotate almost 360 degrees to ensure they never come unlocked. They also offer a true lifetime warranty (keep your receipt) and they will exchange hassle free in the off chance you get a defective hub.
Dont waste your money on anything else, they’re a little expensive up front but 15 years from now when your hubs still work you wont be complaining.
Put these on a 1984 K5 Blazer. The automatic locking hubs would never lock. The Warns solved my problem and they are substantially simpler than the stock automatic setup. Easy installation. These Warn hubs require 90% of a full turn to lock — some customers might not like that.
You really need a tight grip to turn the full 90%. Disappointed that they are made in China but couldn’t find anything made in USA.

Check fitment guide to determine if nut kit it needed. Easy to install.
The Kit does NOT come complete. You will be required to purchase the adjustment nuts, lock washers, and outer lock nuts. This would not be a problem if it was disclosed up front, not back dooring me into purchasing a kit from them.
Haven’t put them on the Explorer yet changing out from autos but they look really nice I feel like they might be an upgrade from their maybe the older one they had I’m not even sure they look great

My first purchase of Mile Marker hubs. Put these on an 88 Toyota PU. Easy installation. Smooth operation. They lock up tight immediately and stay that way as expected. Much better than OE Aisin hubs.
Probably just as good as the Warn hubs that I’ve used in the past. I’ll use them again if needed for another vehicle in the future.
These are so much better looking than the originals, and you save 15 lbs over the old ones easily. Easy to install although the directions are somewhat confusing. As always Summit shipping, less than 2 days.

This is the first WARN product that I’ve been disappointed with. Mine ended up being defective from the factory. For some reason, even with the caps completely removed these hubs would not unlock— and the locking sliding collar was completely out as far as it would go.
I tried several times and could not locate the issue within the hubs. I ended up returning them to summit and paying $30 more and bought the premium version hubs- they have all metal knobs, but a totally different style of locking device.
(9/10s of a turn with a much stiffer spring inside). These unlocked and worked fine right out of the box. I guess my final thoughts would be that I like the appearance of these over the black ones- and I’m pretty sure for whatever reason mine were just a bad batch.
Installed on an 1989 Ford Bronco as an upgrade to my automatic locking hubs that were giving me problems. These out of the box felt way better constructed than my auto hubs. The locking motion feels really solid.
Cosmetically they look awesome! I feel a good sense of confidence in these. I know when I lock these in they are locked in. With winter around the corner these will get a workout. So only time will tell on their durability as I haven’t had to use them yet aside from testing them out after installation.
It was easy to install, works well. The center gear above the gear teeth was too tall making it unable to put the snap ring in the axle shaft. However this was an easy fix. Just take it a part and grind it down about 3/8 of an inch.
It will then fit on the shaft to where you can then put the snap ring in place. the grinding down of this part doesn’t touch the gear teeth or affect anything. It locks in well and works find.

I tried my new hubs the other day on my 1991 Ford Explorer. They worked great and the switch was easy to move from Free to Lock and vice versa. The only thing that would have helped my installation go smoother would have been hub fasteners to the rotors.

Warn makes a fantastic manual locking hub. It replaced my vacuum Ford factory OEM hubs. In my opinion I like manual hubs over vacuum where less likely can go wrong out in the back country when four wheeling.
I knew what I was doing, but I usually read instructions anyway looking for tibits to do it better. Instructions and drawings were not the best. The hubs seem to be good quality.
These are nice looking, seemingly well made locking hubs. My only complaint is that they do not reach as far out to the hub caps like the original equipment hubs did. Now I have to find and purchase new hub caps because they don’t look right.

Locking hubs are a great addition to any vehicle, especially one that sees a lot of off-road use. They allow the driver to engage and disengage the front wheels from the drivetrain, which can be a huge help when navigating difficult terrain.
There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing locking hubs for a Ford Super Duty. First, make sure that the hubs are compatible with the vehicle’s axle. Second, consider the terrain that the vehicle will be used in most often.
If the majority of driving will be done on paved roads, then locking hubs may not be necessary. However, if the vehicle will see a lot of off-road use, then they can be a lifesaver.
Once the correct hubs have been selected, installation is relatively straightforward. The first step is to remove the old hubs from the axles. Next, the new hubs can be slid into place and secured with the included bolts.
Finally, the locking mechanism can be engaged, and the front wheels will be ready to take on whatever terrain comes their way.
