IšverstiShow in original languageThis is an extremely frustrating waste of $150. Do not buy this product. There are numerous competitors that do almost the exact same thing but with a little bonus: they might actually turn on.
I’ve had this device for less than 12 months. At first, all was well, and the video quality looked good and had wide compatibility. At first the Shield refused to turn on every now and then, possibly just to keep me on my toes.
I could get around this with a hard reset: unplugging the power cable and waiting a ten count before rebooting. This worked intermittently for a few more months before the device simply bricked. It output no audio and no video, making it only suitable as an extremely expensive and poorly shaped doorstop.
Merely figuring this out was itself a chore as the Shield has absolutely no external lights, indicators, or otherwise to communicate its status. Once I ruled out the cable (tested) and the TV (tested) only the Shield remained the problem.
NVIDIA did send a replacement. This lasted all of 1 month (bringing the total number of months I got out of this $150 purchase to a whooping 10) before dying exactly like its predecessor. Perhaps not “exactly like,” as this 2.
0 unit skipped the hard reset phase and went straight from operational to bricked. This is a completely unacceptable level of QC or build quality from a $150 product. NVIDIA could – and should – send another, but that would do little to mitigate the immense frustration of an extensive steaming box utterly failing at doing the single most basic tasks for which it was designed.
Do not buy this. If you want to get the same experience, turn off your TV and look at the black screen. Burn $150 in a small pile next to you. There you have it.
IšverstiShow in original languagePros: Fast, good selection of apps, Cons: Forces ads in your face, bad design, expensive, and accessories cost extra. The remote won’t lay flat, the cylindrical device itself would roll of the table if not plugged in, I can’t reach the SD card slot without tweezers, and playing games on it is a hassle to the point where I haven’t really bothered- I played around with Steam Link, and it worked.
ok. Maybe fine for a turn-based game. The main reason I’m writing this review is that this thing is EXPENSIVE. Compared to rokus, firesticks, or other android TVs, this thing is just plain pricey, and what do you get for it? It is fast, loading stuff goes nice and quick.
But the remote isn’t great, and it also lacks things like the ability to plug in headphones for private listening. A huge issue though, is are the ads. A third of the screen is taken up with ads for shows that I didn’t pick, on services I don’t have.
NVIDIA claims this is all google’s doing, and they can’t do anything about it. My guess is that about 150 bucks from you isn’t enough, and they wanted an extra dollar from google ads. Either way, they’re not interested in fixing it, so it looks like that’s how it is from now on, just like how you’ve got a big branded NETFLIX button on your remote.
Why? A buck from Netflix, I guess. If you simply must have “the best”, and are willing to devote a few hours to fixing it out of the box, go for it. If you’re hoping for the best streaming right out of the box, I’d buy a roku stick and wait for something better to come along.
IšverstiShow in original languageIve had my eye on this for about a year now, continuously adding and removing from my cart. Never went down in price but finally did for Black Friday (even though only $20).
I initially had a Firestick 4K which I purchased because my 2015 Samsung 4K tv smart features were beginning to slow down considerably and was getting annoyed so decided to go external. Chromecasts also annoyed me and roku was too expensive when comparing to Firestick.
I was, and still am a fan of the firestick 4k and its an excellent choice for budget 4k streaming device. Super simple and just worked. However, there was alot of content that was primarily in 1080p and not 4K and felt I was losing value from my tv (which still has a great picture).
Thats when I came across reviews of this and its 4K Upscaling, so I knew this was what I was needing. Purchased this, got home and immediately plugged it in. Booted right on up and was able to add all of my apps with no problem at all.
Signed into google which had all of my passwords saved for all of my streaming apps so didnt even have to manually input the login info for majority. Huge perk there. Decided to watch Mandalorian (which is already in 4k) and it of courses looked amazing.
Went onto Hulu and watched some horror flick which def wasnt 4K but this thing did an excellent job upscaling to make little details pop much more than usual. Extremely happy with how this thing works.
Only con I had, and it might of been my controller, was the bluetooth function. Tried 2 xbox controllers that would not sync at all. Finally tried my Elite Series 2 and it did after about 2-3 mins of searching.
Not sure why the previous 2 newer controllers didnt work, they have synced to my phone via bluetooth no problem so I know its not the controller. Gaming on it worked, atleast for the android games. Had some issues with Geforce Now but thats because I dont have the worlds best internet and also wasnt a premium user.
Nice perk to have and can see it being useful if I want to travel but of course dont want to lug around a PC or console. Much easier porting around this tube (plus get my own streaming services) than a big device.
Overall im happy with the purchase as I would say im a heavy user and enjoy top of the line gadgets and this is by far the best streaming device ive used. $150 is extremely steep though and hard to justify for average or even some heavy users.
I got at $130 and that’s still steep for what it really is compared to other options on the market. I believe $100-120 is much more fair. If youre just into streaming content, I believe the Firestick 4k or new 4K Chromecast may be a better option, but if youre a heavy user that wants top of the line and also potential for gaming, this will be a great addition to your entertainment center.

IšverstiShow in original languageBailed on Direct TV couple months ago. The only thing I truly missed was the DVR feature. We all stream what we want now so, watch your favorite stuff whenever. Streaming does not cover any broadcast shows unless you subscribe to all the various services.
I may only watch 1 or 2 shows on any given broadcast network so now I can record them when I know I may be gone at that time. I used an old Samsung 128GB SSD with an adapter plugged directly into the Tablo with no issues at all.
The Tablo gives you a trial tv guide for 30 days and after that you have to pay for that feature. Their web site charges 4. 99 a month for the guide service or 49. 95 for an annual subscription. (2 months free vs.
monthly). With the guide service you may schedule entire prime time shows or special events in advance. Without the guide you can still schedule shows by setting time and channel number manually. In closing this device costs less than one month of a cable or satellite service so it was a “No Brain-er” for me.
Hope this info is helpful for anyone interested in this item.
IšverstiShow in original languageThe Tablo functions very well, BUT you must have an antenna suitable for your location and have it pointed in the direction of the transmitters, ALSO you must use a fully functional USB hard drive if you intend to pause and playback programs, as well as skipping commercials.
Those features are the primary idea behind having a DVR versus viewing directly from an antenna. After you’ve used a properly functioning DVR it’s unlikely that you’ll ever go back to live over-the-air television.
The Tablo fills the bill. The Dual Lite is a network DVR meaning that you can use it over wired Ethernet connections or Wi-Fi but there is no HDMI port to connect directly to a television set. We use laptops to receive the signal and have HDMI cables from the laptop to a HDTV, or you can just view programming directly on a laptop or a tablet if you prefer.
My Tablo is connected directly to my Wi-Fi router with an Ethernet jumper. I know about the pitfalls because I tried using a 64GB USB thumb drive and that was a big fail. Thumb drives are not intended for fast rewriting and they stall badly.
When I plugged in a USB hard disk it made a world of difference. An outdoor antenna is mandatory where I live and that combined with a quality amplified signal splitter gives us solid distortion free signals.
Recording and playback performed fluidly from that point on. If you live close to the transmitters (<10 miles) you may be able to pick up what you want with an indoor antenna.
IšverstiShow in original languageThe Tablo Streamer is an awesome way to satisfy your television needs. The HD OTA reception produces one of the most beautiful image I have ever seen in a device under $150.
If you attach a decent digital antenna to it and then use the scan feature in the device app for your local viewing area, it will find ( in my case) dozens of free over the air channels as well as the major networks.
This incredible device found channels I never knew existed. Let’s talk about going back in time. When “Free TV” was free. There are channels that are dedicated to “retro” programming. Showing all of those great comedies, old game shows, “old school” cops and robbers series and such.
And my personal favorites. Those old western shows, like GunSmoke, The Riffleman , and on and on. I can say with a straight face that this is an absolute entertainment solution for anyone that feels like I do about those skyrocketing cable bills.
As long as you have a good WiFi signal you can shoot that ridiculous cable bill right out of the sky, and then tune in to watch another episode of McHales Navy and see if you see it crash into the water.
Make sure you have a dependable portable hard drive to attach to your new Tablo, because it is also an excellent DVR with settings for anything recording you may think of. It runs hot to the touch, so make sure you set it up in a well ventilated area.
Actually the manufacturer recommends that you leave the device running 24/7. No worries, I don’t think it uses enough electricity to light up a flee shoe in a years time. One last thing. You will find yourself thinking you’re stealing cable or something.
You’re not, it’s free OTA digital TV with a signal that makes cable TV look like it’s suppose to be free.

Good: Build quality is very solid, battery life around 2-3hr Output picture quality clear and sharp. Bad: Can’t connect HDMI from Canon C300 mkII (25,30P) you need to change camera settings to 50i, 60i/p.
But from Canon C100 works fine. If you recording 2ch audio. It will transfer to same audio to Yotube/Vimeo and etc same audio. So if you have speaker on left the right channel will be mute. ( you mix sound in some stage before going to LiveU) Power, you will need some AC power to charge so you no more mobile.
Streaming with one button click. If you accidently click the button before streaming time you can’t stop, your link is gone. Body: very strange shape, hard to attach to the camera. heavy.

The device was nice until I was out of the warrantee. After owning it over the year warrantee the device just stopped working for me. I called Customer service and the guy told me my device is out of warrantee so they wont do anything to help.
I also already paid an additional 150 for a life time subscription so that’s over 300 bucks I invested into this Tablo. I had the device on a surge protector with other devices so I know the issue was not a surge but a defect in the Tablo.
I asked if there was anything they can do for me like give me a coupon or anything for a new device to offset the cost of getting a new one. The Tablo tech then said no your our of warrantee then hung up on me.
Seeing how I paid over 300 bucks to cut the cord and now I have a subscription that cost over 150 I can do nothing with and a hunk of junk that broke because it was poorly made I am not saving a dime cutting the cord and I think the Tech hanging up on me for asking for a coupon was very unprofessional and Rude.
Bought this when I switched from an LED TV to a projector. The projector lacked the tuner so I had to find an alternative. This was pretty simple to set up. It will create a wi-fi network you can join from your device.
Then it will walk you through the steps to join your normal, internet-connected network. From there, you simply scan for channels. It’s not necessarily fast, but it found our channels and proceeded to download the guide info for each.
I like that it presented a simple view to see what channels were found, allowing me to ignore the multiple QVC and HSN networks that just clutter the guide. I also like that the app is available for my AppleTV and my phone/iPad.
We have everything on our AppleTV (Netflix, Disney+, etc. ) so this becomes another app all in one place. And, when someone wants to watch a football game while we’re watching a movie, they can connect on the app and watch on their device.
TV-B-Gone Kit – Universal v1. 2 This kit allows you to turn off any TV with the click of a button. Open source kit version of the popular TV-B-Gone is fun to make and even more fun to use. Tools and batteries not included.
Assembly is required. (Medium Soldering Skill Needed) Warning: This product contains small components and requires assembly.
I’ll completely admit that I’m a beginner at soldering and the instructions are very simple to follow. I bought most of my kit through PiHut including the “Third Arm” holder which I found invaluable when assembling it.
Gives you confidence to move on to larger soldering projects. As for the finished product itself, it is quite fun to use. I’ve used it a variety of EU TVs (Sony, Panasonic, LG etc) and they’ve all turned off within a second.
I doubt I’m allowed back in that store though, not for a moment that I’m suggesting you do this, but this was the acid test for me. Good value for money and the experience it gives you if you’re new to soldering is invaluable.
It’s an awesome product. Received it in a less than week, support team helped with all of the questions and I got all of the parts, as described. Assembly and soldering job didn’t take too much, approximately 20 minutes.
And well, it works properly and is something, you will have a lot of fun with, thank you! I recommend it to others, especially to those, who are starting with soldering, just make sure you have a good soldering iron.
DIRECTV offers live 4K channels when used with this LNB. Attaches to any Slimline dish and provides 13-tuner capability to Genie DVRs and SWM-capable legacy equipment. Self-configuring, simply remove the old LNB connect it, and reboot all your receivers! (DIRECTV 4K Service requires an HR54 Genie DVR plus a C61K 4K Genie Mini Client or DIRECTV 4K-ready smart TV).
I only needed one, but I now have a spare. My older DirecTV SWM-3 LNB has been acting up at night for about a month. As the temperature dropped at night, I starting getting pixelation, freezing, and 771 errors.
This newSWM LNB was very easy to swap out andit works perfectly. Didn’t need to reboot receivers.
My existing SL3S4NR2-02 SLB was intermittently failing in hot weather. After cutting power to my SWM Power Inserter and my DirecTV HR44/500 Genie HD DVR, I simply removed the existing SLB from my satellite dish and replaced it with this 3D2LNBR0-02 SLB.
After restoring power to my system, the new SLB was automatically recognized and it works perfectly.

I’ve used AJA products for over 15 years, they’re solid pieces of hardware that have never failed me. the U-Tap is no exception. I plugged in the HDMI cable from my camera, ran the USB 3 connection into my trusty CalDigit thunderbolt 2 dock and attached it to my late 2011 17 inch Macbook Pro.
The computer saw the signal, the software saw the picture and everything was right as rain. Had it plugged in for nearly 7 hours without one hiccup. AJA rocks!.

Reviews From Real Customers
I got this 4k firestick to replace the previous 2nd gen I had, which altogether stopped working a little less than 2 years after purchase. This one started getting glitchy after just about 1 year. I’m not even using it for 4k or dolby plus, just 1080p and standard dolby surround and approximately 16 months later, it’s almost unusable at times.
Apps freezing up or otherwise not functioning properly, if at all. Even after manually stopping them, clearing the cache &/or data, uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, etc. Not to mention the increasing amount of bloatware.
Bad enough it only has “8gb” of internal storage, with no way to expand it. But, they keep adding to it, randomly, with their frequent updates. I should probably invest in an nvidia shield or at least, something better than this.
To have to keep replacing them every year or so, just isn’t worth it.
I’ve been using android boxes throughout my home for several years now, since deciding to “cut the cable”. Recently, the android box in our bedroom decided to bite the dust. While shopping for a replacement, I came across the 4K Fire TV Stick and decided to give it a try.
Included in the box: – 4K Fire TV Stick – Power Adapter w/ USB-to-micro cable – HDMI Extender Cable (for best Wi-Fi reception) – Remote (Alexa Voice enabled) w/ 2 AAA batteries – Documents/Booklets (Quick Start guide, product info, warranty etc.
) The first thing I noticed once opening the package was it’s small size, slightly larger than a thumb drive and plugs directly into an available HDMI port. This eliminates the need of running another HDMI cable and frees up space on the TV stand, table, mantle or in our case the dresser.
Setup could not be any easier! Simply connect the Power Adapter to the 4K Fire TV Stick using the included USB Cable. Plug the 4K Fire TV Stick into an available HDMI port and the Power Adapter into a wall outlet.
Once powered, I was greeted with several easy to follow onscreen prompts to setup Wi-Fi, timezone, pair the remote to TV etc. and allow the Stick to update. Once the updates were complete, the Stick will reboot.
The entire process only took approx. 5 mins. Once initial setup was complete, I was brought to the main screen. The UI is very nicely laid out and easily navigated. There are several apps already listed such as Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ etc.
You can customize this layout by adding and/or removing apps of which may or may not be of interest to you. You can set a password and customize parental controls to block access to specific apps, ratings and purchases.
The 4K Fire TV Stick works perfectly! It is very responsive in navigation, opens apps quickly and streams video with no issues at all. I was initially concerned about Wi-Fi reception as our router is on a different level/floor in our home, but the 4K Fire TV Stick has no problem picking up my Wi-Fi and streams perfectly.
Great video quality and virtually no buffer! Much better than my previous android box. The remote is a perfect size and fits comfortably in hand. The selection of buttons are that of typical media players, Play/Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, a circular navigation/select, Home, etc.
The 4K Fire TV Stick Remote also has the addition of Power On/Off, Volume UP/Down and Mute buttons, which allow us control over other devices such as TV, Receiver, Soundbar etc. This is a great feature, as it can eliminate the need for multiple remotes.
Then ofcourse, we have Alexa Voice. With a simple press(Hold) of the microphone button, you can easily launch apps, find and control movies and TV shows etc. all with your voice. Alexa can also give updates on time, weather, news etc.
the possibilities seem “almost” endless. I haven’t used this feature too much so far, but when I have it has worked perfectly. While there is lots of free content available on the 4K Fire TV Stick, I primarily use it for Prime Video, Netflix, etc.
Prime Video is a great service with tons of great movies and TV shows. best of all, its FREE for Amazon Prime members! In my opinion, the cost of Amazon Prime + 4K Fire TV Stick basically pays for itself due to the FREE Prime Video!.
I would not ever buy anything from this site again. This is a fraud, the product description says “New Fire TV Stick 4K with New Alexa Voice Remote Streamer” but when I received the package it was on a remote without the stick and did not even include batteries.
Before this product was shipped I suspected that it maybe only a remote, so I contacted the support for this site and asked the question that if this included the stick as well and here is their response : Thank you for contacting DailySale Customer Service.
I understand that you are inquiring about the product that you have purchased. Please be advised that yes, it includes the Stick and Remote. We’re sorry for any confusion. I hope this information helps.
And now of course I can not even contact to get a refund and when you go through the site to return it, it is giving me partial credit which will not even pay for the return shipping fees. I paid for a total of $34.
97 including shipping fees and taxes and now they want to credit me $16. 02 which of course does not include the shipping fees that I have to payback. I hope you guys do not fall for this scam.
With our advanced transmission technology, this plug and play, low latency card can stream your Full HD 1080p video and audio directly to a laptop or desktop computer. The included USB-C adapter cable will let you stream from your smartphone or tablet.
Compatible with DSLR cameras, video cameras, GoPro and other action cameras, video game consoles, and other devices with an HDMI output. Comes with a USB-C adapter to easily stream from your smartphone or tablet.
This is a cheap and affordable capture card and is great for simple needs and lower expectations. HOWEVER this product is disingenuous. Despite what is advertised, my unit did NOT support 1080p 60fps.
At max it only supported 1080p at 30 fps. It even uses a blue USB port to trick you into thinking that it’s a USB 3. 0 device despite it only being a USB 2. 0 device. Annoyingly if you want capture audio, it captures audio in mono on Windows.
There is a way to get stereo audio. For anyone who cares, look into audio and the MS2109 chip that these cheap capture devices use.
The capture card comes with a usb to usb C dongle which is nice. The device has a nice anodized aluminum shell and decent connections although the usb is a little long and therefore has some wiggle when plugged directly into the port of your pc.
You will need some form of device capture software, the manufacturer recommends OSB. It works as it should. If you want to save Blu-ray’s as digital files or send videos or photos from your camera direct to a large storage drive on your pc or capture gameplay from consoles that do not have built in screen recording then this will do it.
Keep in mind although it allows 4K input it only supports 1080p output at 60hz.
I really like the Vivitar Capture Card. What I like about the product is that it is very easy to use. The product is compatible, and can be used with your Desktop computer, Laptop, DSLR Camera, Video Recorder, certain Go-Pro’s, or with your gaming device.
Included with the capture card is a USBC Adapter, a user manual, and a one year warranty card. The capture card is great for livestreaming, vlogging, and also for video conferences. So far, I have been using it my PC, and for my gaming device, with no problems at all.
Start streaming high-quality HD video and audio with the LiveU Solo SDI/HDMI Video Encoder by connecting your camera or video device via SDI or HDMI. The plug-and-play functionality, combined with the power of LiveU’s Reliable Transport protocol (LRT), enables a simple setup for high-quality streaming video with versatile distribution options as well as stable transmission, even when operating in remote locations.
If operating remotely, use the internal battery to power the Solo for approximately three hours. Plus, the compact form factor won’t bog down your production by weighing down your camera. *This is the Solo video encoder only; cellular modems must be purchased separately.
Overall I like it. There could be better documentation for this device. It has a quick-start guide and if you get lucky, everything may work right away. I had to fight through a few things to get it setup on Dacast which was our streaming destination.
The UI on the device is simple but a little on the slow side. All in all, once it’s configured, it’s been working well. Support responded to a message in 20 minutes – at 8pm, so a responsive support team is a plus.
The DISH Over-the-Air (OTA) Module allows you to add a digital over-the-air tuner to your ViP 211z satellite receiver. This module/tuner provides the ability to integrate over-the-air channels into the on-screen Program Guide for seamless viewing.
Your antenna channels will show up in the DISH guide just like it was a satellite channel, so you can see what is playing up to 14 days ahead. You can also RECORD your antenna channels just like all of your other satellite channels.
Solved my problem of paying $12/ month for only 4 TV Channels. Easy to hook up and install with most Dish Receivers. I only needed an Flat indoor antenna and now get 66 Channels. Integrates the Over the Air Channels right into the Dish on screen Guide.
It seems to have a lot of video breakups and loss of video. I have a Magnavox digital video recorder running on the same antenna system and it has a rock solid picture on the same recording time interval so it has to be the Dish tuner.
I have not tried a signal antenuator yet to see if it is overload. It shows a 100% signal strength.
It works on startup, but after operating it overheats and quits working. Installed a cooling fan that blows on it, which reduce temperature and resolved the heating issue. Must install cooling fan immediately or it will not function as advertised.

We needed to convert our Pearl Mini HDMI out to SDI in order to send the signal to an attached facility, but the HDMI out was being using by Zoom through a HDMI/USB encoder. The AJA U-Tab USB 3. 1 allows us to take a SDI feed from our main HDMI/SDI splitter and use the USB output to Zoom.
We attempted this with other products and they all failed. This one works and delivers great audio and video quality. The caveat is it has a SDI pass thru as well.
I had a camera mic on my Sony FS7. I could hear the audio & see meters on my camera, but audio would not pass through the SDI U-Tap. I always selected the U-Tap audio setting/preferences and tested on Zoom, Facetime and Skype.
Still could not get the audio to pass. Did recording tests on Zoom & Skype and got digital noise/static. Tested it on a 2nd day and the audio somehow passed through, but then tried again a few hours later and wouldn’t work.
The video signal always worked fine on Zoom and Skype, but was squeezed on FaceTime. Nice metal housing, professional build and feel. Returned it to B&H & got the Magewell USB Capture Plus SDI 2K version and the audio & video works great, no problems, but the housing is all plastic and build quality is cheap.
Purchased for my elderly Aunt. I found it to be very easy to setup and it’s ease of use is a plus for her. She does not need a smart television so this is ideal, that said if she ever wanted smart capability this is so easy to add with a plug in stick such as Roku etc.
Picture quality is good along with clear sound, not much bass from little built-in speakers of course, but certainly good enough for watching in her bedroom. The audio setting for clearer speech is a plus here.
There are a few screen viewing modes such as vivid at one end, that saturates the colours, to an economy (ECO) mode which I found to give a nice natural tone and hardly different from the next mode along.
This is a bonus of it does actually save some energy. The one negative perhaps for some people is the on/off button which also doubles up for navigating the menus. This is located underneath the screen in the centre and I think could be a little too fiddley for some people.
I have not mentioned the button to my Aunt as she really only needs to use the remote control. Everything needed for normal operation can be done from this. Overall, she is very happy with it and I think it was a very good purchase.
All good apart from the fact that the one single HDMI connection point dictates that the conventional HDMI cable sticks out at right angles from the rear thus meaning that the TV cannot be fitted particularly closely to the wall.
I already had a mounting kit – the screw holes were in the right place but I had to adapt it to accommodate this HDMI cable. The TV it was replacing, a defunct Samsung did not have this problem. I do not use a coaxial aerial lead, connecting it instead directly to the SKY box but, there would be a similar difficulty here.
LG should develop side mounting connection points. I cannot be the only person who has been similarly affected.
Great smaller TV that we purchased for the bedroom to replace an old and now slow model. Very easy to set up, even without looking at the manual, took just a few minutes to get everything as we wanted it and fully tuned in.
Picture quality is excellent and sound adequate considering the small size. Power consumption is low and therefore very economic to use. Would have been nice to have WiFi network capability, but I will add the network by connecting to a powerline adaptor with an Ethernet cable.
Note also there is no provision for SCART or RGB connection to older equipment. I would say it represents excellent value for money!.

I bought this a week or so back so I’m still finding my way around. Bought to replace an ancient Virgin TiVo box as I leaving Virgin. The TiVo box was great for skipping through channels and reviewin without actually selecting a channel, I’m still learning with the Humax.
So far it seems pretty good, time will hopefully improve my experience. Recording is pretty simple with a choice of selecting a single program or a whole series. Options are also able to extend timing for said programs, plus the on screen messages are nice and obvious.
Deleting recordings is simple and quick unlike the TiVo that I found a pain, although there is hardly a need to delete anything because of the big hard drive of 1 terrabyte. Being able to record 4 programs at once while watching a fifth is a first for me and a great asset especially as almost anything worth watching these days is always on at the same time? All in all a good purchase and recommended already to friends and family!.
This box badly riddled with poor usability problems that is feels like an early first attempt by a company that still has to invest in improving its UX and performance. Given Humax’s long history of making PVRs, it’s bewildering how really bad this is.
I bought this on the strength of good past experience with Humax, some good reviews and the features, like being able to record many things at once – but the reality is beyond disappointing. As other reviews have stated, the whole system is very slow.
Every action means waiting a *long* time to be sure whether or not it’s worked or if you need to push the button again. Sure, some actions like loading the recording might take a few moments, but it should load the screen quickly then can just have a loading image/message until the recordings are ready.
But what you get is nothing, just push the button and wait and wait. Going to a set of recordings for a series will default to the latest one (surely you want to start at the beginning?), so back to slow scrolling to get to the one you want to start with.
Navigating through recorded episodes doesn’t update the info panel automatically, you have to click on an episode for the details to change – this means it’s really easy to think you’re looking at the details of the episode you have selected, but nope.
Want to see the ‘info’ for a recorded episode like the title etc? nope, you have to completely stop playback. Deleting a recorded episode? sure, but it will still display the deleted episode details so looks like it’s not worked.
If you try to delete it again you’ll only be deleting other random episodes in your list without realising. Plus other irritations like why the TV and Radio can’t just be in a single list (or at least have that option) – you have to switch between two different guide lists.
And watching something live which is also on series record is a mess, somehow you’re guaranteed for it to jump ahead and lose the end of the episode. Even Netflix is slow, you can hear the playback starting while the loading spinner is still showing – a problem we don’t have on other devices we’ve used for Netflix on TV.
Right now, I’m stuck with this. I’m assuming John Lewis won’t take this back on “I just hate it” at this stage, and a tiny 5% of me hopes that maybe a software update might fix stuff, but given how long this has been on the market, that’s looking unlikely.
Process now is to find something that really does a decent job (how can it be that hard? these have been around for years now!) then this one is going to be sold off cheap. Not worth the internal rage I have to experience every time I use it.
The Humax is pretty good for recording televison programmes and having wi-fi has effectively converted by very old TV into a smart TV. I record a lot of radio programmes. Unlike my old Humax the FVP-5000T does not have a facility to record at the same time on just weekdays, offering only once, weekly or every day.
This causes clashes with programmes which are only at the weekend and maybe longer. I also noticed that the info for each programme is only meaningful for single recordings or series. On the weekly or daily settings, it only repeats the info for the first recording.
For BBC radio series the ends of programmes are frequently chopped off so there is something wrong somewhere. Whether it is the Humax software or the BBC’s fault I don’t know. With my previous machine all these issues were not there as the machine was more versatile.
