20 Best Golf Ball Retriever For Water (2022 Updated)

Great ball retriever that I doubt I will use much but good to have on hand to save a few bucks on balls I may hit into the water. I say I doubt I will use it much since I golf in areas with Florida wildlife and no ball is worth losing a leg or an arm.

I have another retriever in my bag up north which is a normal one and I really like this one much better as it grasps the ball securely and it will not fall out as it may do with my other one. This extends to a good length.

Not a necessity on the course but good to have in case. I have had this in my bad now for weeks and have yet to retrieve a ball.

This retriever has been a great buy. It’s amazingly compact for a retriever that extends so far and easily fits in the long side pocket of my golf bag. It’s indicated to extend to 18 feet – but the fine print says that it extends to 14 feet with the additional 4 feet of reach in the user’s arm and torso.

When extended to its full length there is quite a bit of droop along the shaft, but its not been an issue with use. Once one gets the head down on top of a ball a gentle press seats the ball in the head – except in really silty, soft-bottomed water hazard where one may have to just do a quick rotation to scoop the ball into the head.

Balls once too far out of reach because of high, steep banks to creeks are now able to be retrieved. The retriever also works well to retrieve balls caught in the deep rough in thick brush/shrubs.

I purchased the Igotcha Jawz 14 ft ball retriever. It is effortless to retrieve lost balls in water and brush. I also use it to retrieve lost foam practice balls when I happen to shank one in the neighbors yard.

The adjustability in length and the rubber/neoprene ball catcher works great in both types of balls. I’m extremely happy with my purchase! The product was packaged well and delivered in perfect condition, shipping was prompt and I was notified as soon as I placed the order and it was shipped.

It was yellow which wasn’t and issue with me.

I purchased this ball retriever because it is lightweight aluminum and compact. Many of the available retrievers are a lot heavier. This retriever extends very easily but you need to be very careful if you fully extend it.

It tends to bend very easily. You need to be especially careful distending it. The second time I used it, the shaft bent and I was unable to push it back together as a section of the aluminum shaft was bent and that made the retriever unusable.

I bought this same retriever second. After a few rounds of golf the same problem occurred. High cost, poor performance.

Having used several different golf ball retrievers over many years, I can unequivocally state that the business end of this one – the actual ball securing grabber/holder – features the best, most effective design by far, no contest.

(It’s used by several different brands, so shop for the best value. ) I already own a 12′ version of this thing, which is usually enough reach, but the 3 extra feet on this 15′ model definitely comes in handy at times.

Also – and this is a major point – regardless of the total extended length of these retrievers, the small diameter 3′ tip section is flexible, fragile, and easily bendable. With the 15′ model, you can still get a 12′ reach and a much firmer feel without extending the tip section at all.

This retriever is well built and easy to use. It is sturdy but when extended to full length it gets a little shaky. It doesn’t stay straight when fully extended but bends under its own weight however it would be too heavy to use if it didn’t.

It serves the purpose I got it for and I would recommend it.

this is my fifth retriever and by far the best. I find it easy to get the ball into the retriever in deep or murky water as the aluminum is easy to follow. Then the shaft is quite strong helping to retrieve balls in grass or reeds.

I don’t always hit my golf balls straight. I can extend the “golf hand” out over 16 ft and reach almost all balls in water or in other folks back yards. I average about 5 finds per round and will never buy another golf ball in my lifetime.

Had a similar one before with the same, unique ball catch and loved it. My previous version had telescoped in and out of a sleeve, but this instead has a different closure. Perhaps a different company bought the patent.

Using it may be helped with a little explanation which did not come with it. When extending the telescope, you firmly hold the cylindrical case where the telescope exits, and pull out sections which will lock into place with one another.

If you dont need the full 9 extension, just pinch the telescope exit point with your fingers/ hand where you had been holding the case while you retrieve the ball. Now having the pole extended, place the catcher over the ball as it rests, much like putting a hat on your head.

Then just pull toward you with slight downward pressure and the ball becomes trapped for easy removal. Its simple and clever. When closing up the extended length back into its cylindrical case, you simply push it all the way solidly in, until the little green ball pops out from the end, as in the picture, locking it in place.

Youll get the hang of it quickly even if I havent described it very clearly.

This retriever is difficult to lock. The little ball in the handle just doesn’t work well and it keep popping open. I made the mistake of trying to push on the ground to close it and it is so flimsy it broke near the retriever end.

So, I successfully used it once before I broke it accidently.

I only like small collapsible retrievers like this one. I broke my similar search n rescue retriever but this one’s s even better. Very light and extends in a couple seconds. No locking rings, etc. Scooper design is excellent also.

It snags balls and locks them in. I recommend this item if you want a small, lightweight, reliable retriever.

This ball retriever works great with balls that are laying on hard ground. However, it doesn’t work well with balls on either soft mud or soft leaves. I am unable to press down hard enough to get the balls to grip to the gripper head.

In this case, I need to scoop the ball up from the bottom. The only other issue I have encountered is when I try to retrieve a ball from the top, but the ball is still loose so I need to rotate it so the gripper head is underneath.

The head is hard to get to rotate while extended. I am glad I got the maximum 18 foot length as it is able to reach balls that shorter grabbers can’t.

Works well generally. It’s pretty flexible when extended so not too effective for getting balls out of mud or tight spots. The pole runs into the head and is thin there leading to the head breaking off easily.

The new models attach to the shaft differently and are stronger. Don’t buy the older model.

Bought this a month ago with some of my Dick’s gift cards. Didn’t really need a new ball retriever but this one extended a lot further than the one I already had. Used it three times for 19 balls already!.

To Whom It May Concern: Ordered my new retriever and received it promptly. Removed it from the box and tried it out by placing a golf ball on the floor. Read the instructions and followed them. When I placed the retriever over the ball and put a little pressure on it , the pin holding the head popped out and the mechanism fell apart.

I “retrieved” the parts, reassembled the parts of the head and replaced the pin with a drop of crazy glue. While repairing the retriever, I also noticed that the “tighten-loosen” sticker on the shaft had been applied upside down.

After the glue dried the retreiver now operates. But I must say that here in North and South Carolina, many of the water hazards are small ponds with many weeds, dead leaves and soft muddy bottoms. The dead plant life often catches on the spring mechanism, and sometimes the soft mud prevents the spring action from working.

I actually now prefer the “cup” head retreiver, or the Callaway style. All in all, I think your design is inferior for my purposes, and I was not impressed with the condition of my individual retreiver when first arrived.

I own all three models that IGotcha makes. I live on a golf course and walk in the evening to exercise with my wife. We both have ball retrievers and average about 15-20 balls a day. So we really give our IGotcha tools a workout.

This one is longer and stronger than the others for the really long reaches. Therefore heavier than the others. But boy what a reach! BTW wanna buy some golf balls?.

I thought I was getting a super ball retriever over my old scoop model, but after several tries I have yet to retrieve a ball out of the lake. I can easily place the ring over the balls, but the spring mechanism will not release the trap ring.

To practice using it I tossed several golf ball into my swimming pool and tried to retrieve them. I got the balls out only after many, many failed tries. The problem seems to be that the ring traps the ball at an angle such that the release spring can not feel the pressure of the ball.

There must be a special knack to getting the spring to release. The old scoop models work much better.

Great little ball collector… it works well, except it takes a little aiming, as the prongs are fairly close together. Less obtrusive than the traditional ball retrievers, but takes more precision to latch on, not quite as easy to use as the old school ones.

This is the best little tool I have bought for myself in a long time. Works great on the end of my putter. Have had numerous guys ask where I bought it. I think you’ll see lots more orders.

This ball retriever is great! I purchased two (one for my husband and me) and we are both very pleased with the way they telescope to reach water balls. Very sturdy and the rubber fingers pick the ball up easily.

I use this retriever more for getting golf balls out of thorny bushes and heavy brush when I am hunting balls on tree lined golf holes. Does work well in getting close balls out if water but the 6 ft reach causes you to not be able to get to some balls.

I didn’t realize the entire, long outer section, is black. As pictured, I thought it was just the grip that was black. In the golf cart, it gets very hot sitting in the sun. It’s also a little heavier than my old one.

Other than that, it’s wonderful.

Love my retriever. Unfortunately when my ball finds the water, my Circle Head Retriever lifts it right out easily, no effort. The long extension comes in handy.

I purchased this product thinking it was compact enough to fit in the side pouch of my bag. Unfortunately, it’s meant for riding along with your clubs. They do offer another version that fits. Nonetheless, as always Carl’s is the absolute best for returning merchandise.

It’s great. we looked at many an when we saw this one we knew it was what we wanted! It arrived early and we especially liked the 18ft. The color is also great and was packed well. The quality is great and I’ve already pulled up about 50 balls in the ponds on our course.

I’d recommend it to anyone that needs or want one.

First used this yesterday. First hole, used it to retrieve a ball from water. Only needed to extend the first section, got the ball but I couldn’t get it to retract. Try as I might I couldn’t loosen it.

So I walked the course, all 18 holes, with this thing poking out of my bag like a CB whip antenna slapping me in the back of the head every step of the way. Back at the clubhouse, the pro who though it was funny, tried without luck to loosen the knurl.

Finally we resorted to two pliers to get it to collapse so the I could get it into my car for the ride home. I can’t say more than it’s hard to imagine it’s a fluke that it failed on the first use. I blame shoddy components or workmanship.

In either case I am returning it.

Only issue, I ordered an 18 foot product but received a 24 foot version. This means the tubing toward the end, if fully extended, tends to weaken and bend or break, which happened to my first 24 foot retriever I order about a year ago.

Im not sure if the 18 foot version has thicker tubing toward the end, but that was my hope. When you drag the ball retrieve you often picked up algae. The further out the rod, the heavier the weight on the tip end and potential for breaking or bending.

Should be re-engineered to have more rigid last ten feet.

The tubes stick and make it impossible to unstick. I tried two of them and gently turned them to use. When I tried to reverse the process could not turn the tubes. Requested others try and was told that others ran into the same problem.

Good product, one can tighten it so it won’t spin and lock it in place. really nice although one must make sure there is enought longevity in the bag pocket so it fits properly. I love mine …

Light and easy fit in most of golf bag pockets. Need few practice prior to retrieving the ball specially ball laid in muddy water. Good product and strongly recommend.

if you’re an average or below golfer this item will pay for itself in saved balls the first season. the only issue i would bring up is durability, really check it out.

Excellent construction and materials. Beautiful piece of gear. Ball retrievers and retrieving are always a trade off regarding devices and intended use. E. g. if you want long reach you need stiffer heavier tool but then it might be too heavy to carry in walking bag.

This fits the bill for cart bag. Unexcelled in stable long stiff stable extension. Cons: futzy mechanics—plastic collars will badly pinch hands when retracting sections, locking tightening of sections when retracting can fail.

I had one locked up so bad I had to exchange the whole unit. On my second retriever I have one section that does not want to snug up and then flops around making it difficult to retrieve ball. Futzing will snug it up but the I don’t extend that one section making part of length unusable.

End result: buy with discount. Use with cart bag. I excelled in working long reaches and through brush and weeds.

I like to walk the course in the winter and decided I would see if I could find any balls. Boy did I ever. I saw all these balls in the sticker bushes. I ordered this to “search and rescue” these balls.

This thing was pulling out balls that looked brand new. In one winter I ended up with over 1,500 balls! 400 of them Pro V1’s and another 700 top of line Callaways, Bridgestone’s and Taylor Made’s. Buy this retriever, go out in the winter and have some fun.

Best Ball Retriver on the market. Get the longest one, you will not regret it. Snatch waterballs near the bank or out of your neighbors yard. Very durable.

I previously owned a retriever with a plastic loop, that after 8 years snapped off the telescopic pole. This one has a sturdier metal basket to capture the ball. I have used it once since buying it, and it easily captured the ball and held it securely while I reeled it in.

I have always preferred this style of retriever, and this one is very well-designed. It easily picks up balls from the bottom of the pond, or from the nearby woods, while I remain in the fairway.

I had a similar design ball retriever for years but unfortunately wear and tear took its toll and the end broke off. Didn’t think I would find one the same but bingo The Golf Shop on Line had one. These are brilliant ball retrievers and reasonably priced, without being over complicated.

Here’s to many more years retrieving the odd wayward ball that finds its way into the water.

Perfect for fishing golf balls out of the river.

This is the best ball retriever that I have used in over 50 years as a golfer. Ingeniously easy to use and extremely effective whether retrieving from under bushes, out of mud or from water (other people’s of course!).

The 5. 5m one is still pretty strong at full extension. Thoroughly recommended.

I broke my previous ball retriever which was a cheap, short telescopic device, hung on the outside of my golf bag but actually trying to capture the ball was frequently difficult, as was retaining it inside the ‘catcher’ so I bought the Masters Golf retriever as a replacement.

It now has to go inside the bag which I was not happy to do at first with a full set of 14 clubs but its ability to catch and retain a ball is far superior. During a round of golf recently, I assisted a fellow golfer who could not reach his ball in a deep ditch with nettles.

With my new 5. 5 metre Masters Golf Telescopic Retriever, I recovered it easily – to his delight. The length is important but the actual device to trap the ball inside it is what makes it special. So much easier! I am happy to recommend it.

Sturdy product which is what I needed to be able to retrieve my ball from the buen around our course. The length is great as it allows me to get to balls my old one would come up short . Great product
