X Box is one of the most, if not THE most popular console out there. With this, MS rode a tidal wave of hype to their next unit, the X series. Unfortunately it seems that was all hype and huff as there are not a lot of upgrades that make this box so wonderful.

If anything one would call the changes DOWNgrades. For starters, there is no interface for virtual anything, and it appears MS is not going to add any, anytime soon. Another very disappointing item is they took the sPdif out of the box !! The old X box had digital – optical sound, which is far superior to conventional sound IMO as it does not pick up ANY processor noises or other static / hiss etc.

The X version does not have sPdif out, so now you have to go and buy a 20 dollar splitter to split it out of the HDMI stream, convert it, and then plug it back into your cable to route to your stereo like your ‘old system’ was wired.

Why would anyone decide to eliminate that? NOT COOL !! Yes you could just route the sound thru the hdmi cable but for those who have projectors and surround amps separately, this becomes a big deal. It was fairly easy to set up and play however those two items right there make it NOT worth all the hype and huge dollars you are paying for it.

especially removing the digital sound !! They cut corners, raised the price and hyped it to the moon. Im surprised they didn’t offer a free copy of Microsoft Windows ME version with it 🙁 Overall not very happy.

I’m a Borderlands fan. On BL3 the start times from the XBox One main screen to in game were a painfully slow 4 + minutes. Restart times after save quits were 1. 5 + minutes. And that was with an SSD, With the Series X, start times are less than 2 minutes and restart times are 15-20 seconds.

Makes farming so much faster and in late at night sessions I don’t fall asleep waiting for the restart. Transitioning between maps is also much faster. The graphics are great. I noticed the richness of colors right away and the game play is sooo smooth and life like.

My only complaint about the Series X is that they changed the battery cover on the controller so I had to go buy new rechargeable batteries to get the cover. With all their effort to maintain backwards compatibility I feel like someone screwed up here.

Why change the little plastic cover for the batteries? It was never an issue with the old controllers but they created one with that change. Overall I’m very happy with the XBox Series X and its performance.
