Automotive clear coat is a clear paint that is applied over the top of automotive paint. It is typically used to protect the paint and provide a glossy finish. Clear coat can be applied with a spray can or a brush.
20 Best Automotive Clear Coat Spray Can
1. Rust-Oleum 257884 Automotive Enamel Spray, Gloss, Clear, 11 oz
Rust-Oleum Auto Enamel Spray provides a long-lasting colour finish with superior gloss retention. It’s durable long lasting finish resists nicks and scratches. Superior colour and gloss retention. Excellent UV and weather resistance.
I actually had a can left over that I used on my fire pit cover and it’s the 1st time what I painted it with actually held up through the elements (winter included) and is still fine. This time I bought a 6 pack to paint the bottom supports of my deck (wood) which I’m re-doing (I used the left over can to start the job and wanted it uniform).
Looks great, shipped fast and ZORO had the best price. Would definitely recommend.
This is just like if you go to a body shop supply and have them mix you a can of paint. Not the off the shelf stuff. This gets stringy like car paint does if you touch it half dried. Has a nice shine too.
I recently painted my road bike (carbon frame) to matte black. I used Rustoleum matte black spray paint and tried to top off with a Rustoleum matte clear coat (not a 2K clear coat). The bike looked great but the finish was very durable – the paint started rubbing off where I would take it on/off my bike rack.
After researching different products, I came across this 2K matte clear coat by SprayMax and figured it was worth a try. I sanded and repainted the bike frame with the same Rustoleum matte black, but top coated with the SparyMax.
Results are GREAT! When fully cured, it dries to a hard finish. I’ve had the bike on/off my bike rack several times now and there are no signs of wear! One thing to note – because this is a matte finish, it will have “rough” hand feel.
This was something I expected, but I wanted the matte look. If you want a smooth hand feel – SprayMax has other 2K clears for that.
For the price of the product, I expected better. It was good mind you, but as far as I can tell thus far, its really not worth the extra cost over Rustoleum Clearcoat Spray for general use. Maybe the cost is justified by the durability of the product, time will tell.
But, I personally wouldnt put out the extra money again for it.
It’s quite unique. Being 2 parts in one. Spray pattern and pressure were good. It worked and seems to be durable. I used the matte finish over flat black paint on a Fender Strat. Put on several coats until I used it all.
Pressure pretty much stayed the same until it was gone. I put so many coats on that I was hoping it ran out. When I say coats I mean no more than a minute or 2. Marathongman.
Great for spot repairs! Get the benefits of 2K clear without the trouble of mixing or getting your gun dirty. Patented can has separate bladder with hardener – just press a button to activate, shake, and then spray.
2K Clear is very high chemical-, gasoline-, and weather-resistant. Great long-term lasting product. 11. 8 oz Spray. CAUTION – Respiratory Protection is required when painting. Not included.
I had a can of this clear sitting on my shelf for months waiting for me to work up the courage to use it. I must admit, I was intimidated by the whole thing. I have been using Krylon clear for my projects for about a year and it is not up for the task of protecting my products.
It does look nice, yes, but the Krylon has no chip or scratch resistance at all. Enter Clearmax- I started a higher end paint project and decided to pop the red cherry on the can I had sitting on my shelf.
I painted like I normally would with my Krylon cans and it was same spray feel. I didnt have to learn any new techniques or methods, just spray and go as normal. I laid down 3 nice coats of the clearmax and let it sit overnight.
To my surprise within 24 hours this stuff was ready for wet sand and polish. I was able to work faster with the clearmax because it dried HARD over night, well hard enough to work and not worry. When I reassembled my project I didnt have to fear that I would chip the clear or paint like I wouldve with the Krylon/Rustoleum.
I have full confidence in the Clearmax and my only gripe would be- why did I wait so long to use it? Sure, it is a little more expensive but knowing that my projects will be professional grade from here on out allows me to step up my game and offer betterand wilder paint projects to my customers.
I dont have to (but do anyways) handle my projects with kid gloves because fragile subpar clear coats. I will be stocking up on the Clearmax and using it from now on.
It’s temporary at best. While it goes on well and looks great (with a properly prepped surface), when exposed to weather I haven’t seen it stay adhered for more than about 18 months. I’ve painted cars and motorcycles since the early 90’s, and I have some small jobs a couple of years ago that didn’t warrant breaking out my gun, so I bought this.
I was pretty damn happy with the results, so I ended up painting small areas of my own truck, and using this for a clearcoat. About a year and a half later, it started peeling off in sheets. The PAINT I applied didn’t, just the clear.
Matter of fact I’ve never had paint peel off. I’ve used other clearcoats that didn’t look nearly as good (or go on as easily) but on some things it’s been 20 years and the clear is still on there. Not this stuff.
That said, it was on a road-going vehicle that’s parked outside. If you used it on something like a guitar or a refrigerator I guess it would be better protected, and last longer. But the whole point of this stuff is to endure the elements.
If you want lasting results on any paint job, you have to have professional clear coat. The problem comes from needing a compressor, spray gun and then you have to buy the clear coat and hardener, then mix them together.
This takes all of that out of the equation and gives you a quick and easy solution for many different applications. No store bought clear coat comes with a hardener or is UV protection rated. You want the hardener to make it more resistant to scratches and bumps and you have to have a UV protection clear coat if you’re doing auto repair or in my case, restoring headlights and taillights.
Automotive light fixtures come with factory clear coats to prevent yellowing and fading and after time it breaks down. If you’ve ever tried to restore your lights and found them yellowing faster, it’s because you literally stripped off the clear coat that protects it.
This clear coat spends very fast and is only meant for small areas. If you don’t have enough, you will end up with a rough surface and make things look cloudy. Keep this in mind for whatever project you’re working on.
Overall, very satisfied with the results. I bought some cheap replacement light fixtures for my truck and used this to seal them because knockoff OEM parts do not come with clear coats (oneof the reasons why they’re so cheap) and this will hopefully make them last even longer.
Spray Max 2K Semi Gloss Clear Coat Aerosol. A 2K component clear coat with a satin finish that is easy to apply, flows smooth an dries to a long lasting finish. Activate, Shake, Spray. Great for motorcycles, automotive accessories, and hobbies.
This two part semi matte (satin) clear coat is 100% professional grade. Has a pot life of 48 hours so make sure you have everything prepped and ready to use the entire can once its mixed. The spray tip that is used on this can is one of the best I have EVER used.
Material sprays out highly atomized, large fan, and has a steady pressure from the first spray, all the way down to the last drop. If you cant lay down precessional grade clear with this product, its you, not the clear.
I used this on my motorcycle gas tank to protect the paint from gasoline melting the paint, after it cured i dripped gas on the clear coat and let it sit there and it did not melt or eat through the clear coat!.
It sprays heavy so buy an extra can. It goes on very smooth and dries hard. Prep sand with 220 grit paper before spraying, awesome product.
Goes on well if sprayed with LIGHT coats. Shake can for at least 1 minute, then use supplied cap to press in bottom pin (will take a fair amount of force), then shake for over 1 minute. Spray light coats (will smooth out).
I painted the inside of a bare aluminum wheel, using 4 coats, after scuffing with coarse scotch-brite pad. Cured to a very hard coating. Don’t waste any time painting after mixing activator (I waited 5 minutes between coats).
You can’t save anything left in the can, so be prepared to use it all or lose what is left. I was well satisfied with the results that I got by using the above steps. Expensive, but gives a good tough coating.
A great alternative to mixing two part paint and having to use and clean up a spray gun.
I did a car hood w/this product and have used it on motorcycle tanks, frames and fenders. good product to use when ya don’t own or want to invest in an air gun/compressor system and NOT doing a large project.
it doesn’t apply as FINE as an air gun-u will get some orange-peel effect, so extra care needs to be taken when applying. like all clears, it WILL run if u are not careful-there’s a fine line btwn. a “wet look” coat and running.
I do, however, like the adj spray noz for choice of vertical or horz fan of spray. Overall, only thing Spray-Max could improve upon is the orifice nozzle size for a more “misty-like, air gun quality” discharge.
I bought this product to clean up the bowls under the burners on my electric stove. I repeated the process about 4 times with not much change. I have used it to clean floors and it works fine. I also tries the burnt on grease on the bottom of a couple fry pans.
U-POL 0796, Clearcoat, UV Resistant, Spraycan Clear The UPO 0796 Clearcoat is a high quality spraycan clear that is highly uv resistant, ultra high build, crystal clear, and durable gloss. This spraycan clear ‘s convenient aerosol packaging allows for use anywhere you can’t get with a standard spraygun.
It has quick drying characteristics which allows you handle the clearcoat quicker than many of the competitors brands on the market.
I didn’t like this product at all, it did not lay flat or even lots of orange peel. Sanding clearcoat usually makes it flat and glossy but not in this case it just got worse. Has only semi gloss appearance and it didn’t blend in well with the factory clear.
Leaves a great depth and gloss coat. It goes on THICK! Self leveling as well. Don’t go crazy on the heavy coats. Go light and build up. Doesn’t take much to build a poly “shell” on whatever you’re spraying.
Goes on crystal clear and dries in HD. LOL. Yeah, this is the good stuff. Little goes a long way. A++ 5 starz.
Its anti-yellowing, and the good spray tip enables you to coat with as little orange peel that you will ever see come from clear out of a spray can. Perfect for coating badges or emblems to keep them from yellowing.
no reason you couldnt spray whole panels with this can.

This is the first time I have used a super high temp paint like this. Seems that the ratio of thinners to paint is way too high when compared to other high temp. paints I have used before. Even the thinnest of coats just runs.
After a lot of experimentation and half a tin of paint I found the Only way to get a reasonable finish was to get parts so hot that the thinners evaporated as soon as the paint touched it. And I mean way above normal spray booth temperatures.
Too hot to touch hot! Having found this method worked, 4-5 thin coats gave a reasonable finish and when the final baking process finishes the results were no too bad. Quality of paint so far seems very good but be prepared to spend a lot of time getting is good finish if it is going to be visible.
So I used this on all my cars and my friends cars. I ceramic coat the exhaust from the cats to the back of the tips. Climb up there from side to side and under and spray down the cats, mufflers, and pipes.
Do two coats. Let it sit about half hour. Turn on and idle for 10 minutes and turn uff let it cool down for 20 minutes. Repeat the process two more times. It will insulate your pipes and keep the heat in.
Prevent rust and give it a nice clean look. This has given me an extra mile per gallon which leads to 100s of dollars in savings in a years worth of time. Definitely recommend doing it.
My catalytic converter was stolen from my rv on an outing. only away from it 45 minutes down at the beach. with a parking lot full of people and vehicles everywhere IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! So the state police said by painting it with bright hi temp spray paint and engraving vin # or license plate # on it would deter theft, but wasn’t full proof.
It would be almost impossible to remove paint before they could sell it/ too time consuming and the buyers would be flagged that it was stolen. I spray painted all our vehicles cat converters also my sister’s car, The vehicle has to run vehicle for 10-15 minutes to adhere paint to metal now let’s see what happens.
The police said I couldn’t rig up machine guns under the rv nor could I electrify the under carriage. Guess plain old shooting them (if caught) won’t be allowed either. “Dang “. The paint is a bit spendy but if it works it’s less than $1200 a whack.
It’s a high-quality lacquer system designed for automotive and motorcycle applications. And with no re-coat window additional coats can be applied at anytime. Clear Coat 32 oz Quart Can Quick drying time Easy to apply Lacquer based formula Pre-reduced ready to spray formula Primer & Paint sold separately No Re-Coat window – apply anytime!.
Restoring a 66 mustang, I wanted a lacquer finish, this stuff is crap, had to return half of them because they were contaminated with rusty sediment or cloudy white. had to go to 5 different stores to find enough to finish the job.
don’t ruin your hard work with this. Sounded like a great idea in their videos but this is the worst quality product I have ever seen.
Had a hell of a time with this product the first go around seemed to be on the shelf too long, but finally a new batch and my projects came out smoking. Painted and cleared a 2014 dodge charger and 2018 Chrysler 300 both black, used duplicolor paint and clear on both.
Should of seen the tears in the owners eyes. Great product! Sorry no photos, got them out too fast.
Rust-Oleum Acrylic Lacquer is designed with indoor/outdoor durability to offer a premium, fast drying coating for your automotive surfaces. Acrylic Lacquer brings excellent adhesion and can be machine or hand buffed once dry for a glossier look.
Any-angle spray with comfort tip allows for any direction spray with reduced finger fatigue.
It helped correct some issues on the prior color coat because the solvents partially react with the prior coating. Yet, be cautious using lacquer spray paints — the labels need to be more informative, the product itself — 5 stars.
The any-angle spray tips that Rust-oleum uses are great. It takes more practice to get it right. Helps a lot to always have a light source to see the reflection off the sprayed coating. Too heavy on vertical surfaces will cause sags, yet vertical surfaces are easier to spray at a uniform distance.
Seems that you can correct the finish to some degree on subsequent coats. They seem less forgiving than spraying enamels, in that they are much more sensitive to humidity and even wind if spraying outside.
Believe that is because they dry so quickly. Too humid and the coating will trap moisture, cause cloudiness and a flatter sheen — it can look terrible, yet can be overcoated under low humidity conditions and improved or problems eliminated.
I’ve also learned to check the humidity forecast [forecast. weather. gov] for the day online if spraying outside. Start spray at less than 70% humidity, even though the can gives a higher number. By the time you do a second coat, the humidity will likely be different, if working in outside air.
I did not like the spray pattern at all. The width was about 3 inches, (guessing) and difficult to overlap without spraying too much, created buildup and runs. Check to make sure this is the correct material for your can.
Spray Max 2K Glamour High Gloss Aerosol Clear. A 2 component aerosol clearcoat that is easy to apply, flows smooth and dries to a long lasting, high gloss finish. 2K clearcoat in an easy to use aerosol.
Activate, shake and spray. Unique nozzle delivers spray gun results. Dries to a high gloss finish. Excellent weather and chemical resistance. Manufacture date on can Warning This product can expose you to chemicals which is [are] known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
I’ve been a hobbyist for many years, lately restoring antique radios, but have never come across a product this good. I get a mirror like finish with it’s unique 2 part rattle can system. It’s a little pricey, but well worth the results it brings! Just a note of caution, always use a respirator and good ventilation, along with covering up from head to toe while shooting this product!.
This stuff works great until you’ve used between 50% and 75% of the product. At that point it doesn’t matter how often or vigorously you shake the can it starts spitting and sputtering. Even with that it leaves a great finish.
I painted the fiberglass roof of a Bombardier NEV (about the same size as a smart car), with Krylon Candy Grape paint. The Krylon paint nozzle produces a small round pattern. Very difficult to paint without leaving stripes.
I painted in a variety of patterns to get full coverage. I’ve never painted that way before. The coverage is great but a lot of overspray. After applying this 2k clear coat (of which the nozzle produces a large fan pattern) the overspray is gone and the surface is now a high gloss.
Considering I painted in a not so clean building with many open to the outdoors areas and the temperature in the high 80’s and low 90’s I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Good job. Dan.
The next best thing to a high dollar professional clear coat application. With correct prep work of paint, and mindful steady application, results are a solid 9. Spend $200 at body shop to have a fender scuffed and cleared or spend $25 for basically same result from a rattle can.
Very pleased. Hardened fully for me in 12 hours. Wet sanded and buffed a week later. Show room shine. ! Use ventilation though as harmful to breathe. 5 stars.
Rust-Oleum Corporation 253522: Paint, Acrylic Lacquer, Gloss Clear, 1 qt. , Each – Rust-Oleum auto body clear coats are quality, ready-to-spray systems (primer-paint-clear) designed for most all vehicle applications.
They’re easy to apply, dry quickly, and can be buffed to a brilliant, high-gloss shine. Plus, the no-recoat window limitations mean that additional coats can be applied at any time–now, that’s innovation! Their acrylic lacquer clear coat formulation seals and protects.
They come in a clear coat or a metallic clear coat to add the finishing touch that’s sure to outshine the competition.
This is a good product and economical. You want to treat internally, and externally. If the dog is infested, you should probably take to the vet first, then use this. We were very satisfied, and the price was good.
You might need to use more than one capsule. If you have a problem, then you’re not using the item correctly.
This item along with the Primer and Basecoat are collectively. cans of junk. The clearcoat lifted and ruined all previous work done despite following ALL of the instructions/recommendations given by the manufacturer.
Waste of time, effort and money. This will be the last time that I purchase ANY Rust-oleum products. And, I will be getting my money back.
Spraymax clear is the best way to get a professional spraygun finish in a can. It’s easy to work with and throws a nice pattern. It works really good on touch up spot repair or complete jobs of smaller vehicles like motorcycles.
Because it is a 2k product if you do items like motorcycle gas tanks you won’t have to worry about spilling gas on the area down the road and affecting the paint like you would from a stand alone clear out of a rattlecan.
This is the best clear coat in a can you will ever use. I used this to clear coat my 17″ rims after using dupli-color matte black wheel paint which is an enamel spray paint. My end results are wet looking glossy deep dark black rims.
You might hear that you shouldn’t use this over enamel based spray paint but I waited about 50 minutes to over an hour after my last paint coat before I hit it with this clear and it came out looking like glass.
This bottle has a nice vertical spray pattern thats good for painting left to right. The tip can also be rotated to get a horizontal spray pattern if you want to paint top to bottom. The clear coat comes out evenly and at first it’ll seem like its hazy and not a smooth gloss, but after a few seconds you’ll start to see the gloss coming out so just move onto the next section instead of spraying the same section heavy trying to get that gloss.
You’re gonna need 2 cans for 4 rims, 1 isn’t enough. One can will give you 3-4 good coats for 2 rims. It all depends on how you spray but you’re gonna need 2 cans for sure. Its expensive but it is worth the price.
Instant clear coat is a ready to use clear coat in an aerosol. It is used for finishing coated surfaces in order to achieve a high gloss UV-resistant and durable finish. Once cured instant clear coat has a very high gloss and a mirror image depth.
Oh how I wish I had found this stuff months ago would have saved an easy 100$ if not more. Up until this point I had only tried Dupli-color mainly because that was the touch up paint I was using and it was easy to find in store.
I must have done the painting and then had to re do the whole thing at least 5 times because of the Dupli-color clear coat which is utter garbage. This stuff is wayyyy easier to spray , doesn’t drip which is basically impossible with dupli color paints, dries fast and dries with a very glossy hard surface.
Was ready to cut and buff within a few hours , probably didn’t even need that long. 1 can and my job looks a million times better then any time I used Dupli-color. Yes it’s more money but I would have saved so much time and money if I had known about this stuff right off the bat.
Bought this clear coat to try, as I’m very experienced with small repair and blend work on classic cars. I always spray a few test passes on a piece of cardboard, then begin to spray the clear-coat. The clear-coat burst out of tin from under cap onto rear bumper and small quarter panel repair.
Had to re-sand and re-prep entire job including polishing drips sprayed from rear trunk lid. Entire morning wasted refinishing work after bursting clear coat everywhere. Horrible experience!.
First a piece of plastic broke off the nozzle when I took the cap off. Then it splattered drops on the paint even though I was really careful and sprayed a bunch on cardboard first. Then it dissolved the paint (it had dried for 24 hours) and made it look runny.
I would have been much better off leaving the paint without clear coat, it looked way better before.
High-gloss finish provides excellent UV resistance and durability. Fast-drying formula is great for spot repairs. Blends easy and gives great depth. Can be wet sanded and buffed. Great on aluminum rims.
12. 2 oz Spray. CAUTION – Respiratory Protection is required when painting. Not included.
I have used this product many times on my car to refresh faded paintwork, and this has never let me down. For best results, warm the can up by leaving it in warm water for several minutes then shaking it for the same length of time.
This ensures a better flow and good pressure when spraying it. Apply one or two light coats then one or two wet coats by moving the can slower than before to get the high gloss finish. Personally I swap the spray nozzle supplied for the red calligraphy one which gives an even wider spray pattern, as good as a spray gun.
Also by ‘chasing away’ the clear coat when spraying the painted item results in a mirror like shine. This is an excellent product, I have no problem recommending it.
I’ve used this product twice noticing that it’s very heavily bodied and needs to be put down rather wet as it doesn’t flow a whole lot immediately afterwards. Product covers good, sands down in short order without loading up the sandpaper and in-use LASTS.
I recommend the product! I’d like to have TP tools inform us as to differing amounts of product (CLEAR) weight. where we can select these clears based on their viscosity/weight.
This is easily the beat clearcoat I’ve ever used. The coverage is excellent. Not cheap by any standard but you get what you pay for which is excellent. I bought this for my headlights initially. This is now my go to clearcoat for any job.

Those were the cheapest Aerosol Cans I found in Canada, BC. Everywhere else they’re sold for $25 CND per can. It would be $150 plus tax for the cans alone. The package was delivered within the estimated time.
All items were included and work great. I dipped my wheels today and couldn’t be happier with the results. I didn’t care much for the grip though as I found it easier to dip without.
PRO2KCLEAR 500ml is a superior high gloss crystal clear finish that has excellent gloss retention. This product is easy to activate and apply with mechanical polishing possible after 24 hours. Product Benefits Genuine 2K isocyanate lacquer Brilliant gloss retention Very scratch resistant Gives a spray gun finish everytime PRO XL Disclaimer This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
The price and delivery were very good. I followed the instructions carefully but the aerosol leaked badly around the nozzle at all times during spraying. I tried adjusting the spray pattern but this did not improve anything.
I left it for a couple of hours and tried again but it was the same. Eventually, I scrapped it. I have bought 2K clear lacquer aerosols before with no problems.
I belive this is a good product when it works but 40% of the cans I have used didnt activate the hardner, i watched the video and read the can before using it so i couldn’t go wrong but it still didnt work in some cans.
This is an expensive product and its unacceptable. I spoke to the manufacturers who have very little care for any user that is not a professional company and they put it down to user error and wouldn’t issue any replacement cans or look into my complaint.
Like is said when it works it’s a good product but If the hardner doesnt mix then this product is no better than any other lacquer that you can buy. I belive there is a manufactures issue and from reading other reviews I’m not the only one to question this product.
What a great product this is. Just like using a spray gun. No Spits as with the usual spray cans. Adjustable spray pattern. Flows on well and gives a really good finish. Recoat in 30 mins and dries overnight and ready for flattening and buffing the next day.
Rust-Oleum High Performance Wheel Spray Paint provides an easy to use spray coating to refresh and revitalize old wheels. Ideal for vehicles that want added protection or a new look on plastic hub caps or aluminum and steel wheels.
Any-angle spray with comfort tip allows for easy application on hard to reach areas and reduced finger fatigue.
I used this on the black steel wheels on my Police Hemi Charger. Came out really awesome, good as new. Really impressed. The rims were faded scratched and just beginning to oxidize around the rims edge where it meets the tire.
I did paint those areas with Rust-Oleum’s Rust Reformer (rust converter = primer) first as a base coat. I then painted all 4x rims with the Rust-Oleum Matte Black Wheel paint. Gave them a good coat, waited 10min then gave them a 2nd coat, waited another 10min then gave the wheels a finish coat of Rust-Oleum Clear Gloss Wheel paint.
I let the wheels sit for several days with fans on them just to speed up the cure time but they really came out fabulous, they look new. The only critique I’ll say is that the Clear Gloss really turns out to look like Semi-Gloss.
But again they really look great. I also used Rust-Oleum Paint For Plastic black plastic paint to paint all 4x plastic wheel well covers (the plastic panels that line the wheel wells). They were looking faded etc and just gave them a good cleaning then painted them and it made a huge instant difference, nice & black & glossy.
I also just bought 4x brand new brake calipers and used Rust-Oleum’s Caliper Cleaner (to clean any residue) then painted the calipers with silver Rust-Oleum Caliper Paint. I gave them a few coats and let them cure and the finish came out great.
The caliper paint is for extreme heat plus it has anti-dust properties to help keep brake dust from sticking etc. Now my new calipers won’t immediately begin to rust like the old set did (from rain & ice & road salt etc) and they have a nice silver finish that shows nicely through the wheel spokes.
Also makes it much nicer to work on the brakes too as I can see everything nice & bright & clean & protected. Rust-Oleum made some nice wheel & brake paint products!.
Purchased this along with two other spray paints to paint the OEM wheels on my 1997 Camaro Z28. I was quoted a price of $300 to paint my wheels at a paint shop. These paints did a FANTASTIC job for under $100 in material cost.
VERY Satisfied customer. Fast shipping as well as very good packing of items shipped. ZORO rocks.
Purchase these items to paint my 1997 Z28 OEM rims. Wow, I was amazed at how well they look using these small spray cans. NOTE: I did follow the directions to the letter and did construct a ventilated “Spray Booth” using cardboard and a box fan.
VERY SATISFIED WITH THE PRODUCT AND THIS SELLER! ZORO up.
The 2K gloss clear is crystal clear and high gloss as advertised, but the items I sprayed were vertical hanging guitar bodies so the entire piece could be sprayed at once due to the short life span of the catalyzed clear.
And the results are orange peel in the clear coat. This means finish sanding then buffing to desired gloss level. If you have your projects laying flat and horizontal you could spray it on thicker with less worry about paint runs and minimum or no orange peel.
If you want you paint project to be impervious to gas and oil. this is the best product to complete the process. The spray comes out like a fine mist allowing you to place several coats before you apply the last ‘wet coat’.
Wait ten minutes between each coat. Placed at the correct temperature the wet coat will smooth out uniformly to a high gloss finish. no orange peel. One other thing. the type/color of paint that you use is almost inconsequential.
Rust-Oleum Custom Automotive Spray Paint is a premium automotive lacquer designed to create an on-trend, durable finish. The corrosion resistant formula provides long lasting protection, durability and is ideal for use on automotive accent projects like striping, wheels and interiors.
The paint is smudge resistant and provides excellent coverage for quick project turn around.
I used this black matte custom lacquer to shoot an older model Chevy Silverado that had it’s factory basecoat fading because the clearcoat started to peel and flake off. After this started, it didn’t take long for the UV rays to take it’s toll.
Sprayed this over Rust-Oleum automotive primer that had been sanded and sealed with Rust-Oleum primer sealer. Paint went on and laid down smooth. ***BUT*** The “improved shoot any angle spray tip” is HOT GARBAGE! Once you start shooting this paint, either shoot until you’re out of paint.
Don’t stop spraying for more than a few minutes and try to start again! This tip is the 2021 triple crown winner for WORST on the market. If you like numerous drips and splatters ruining your project, look no further than right here.
I’m puzzled as to why Rust-Oleum would release a 5 star (paint quality) product with a less than 1 star spray tip? Pros: Excellent coverage Lays down smooth Fast drying Quality paint in a rattle can Cons: Worst spray tip that’s ever been put on any brands rattle cans.
High pricing considering the failure of a tip they crippled this paint with.
The actual paint and finish is quite good but Rust-Oleum really need to use better spray nozzles. I normally use a spray gun but sometimes like the convenience of a spray can and as much as I like Rust-Oleum’s products, their spray nozzles just let their product down.
I often decanter their paint into my spray gun and the finish is superb.
I was particularly happy with the finish; the matte finish was so easy to apply I looks like a pro did it. The fan nozzle on the spray tip made the process go easily, smoothly and without streaks. That’s a first for me.
Provides extra protection over painted or non-painted surfaces. Durable, UV-resistant, fast drying. Great for spot repairs! Use on aluminum and other metal surfaces. Use over Steel Wheels Paint (Part #7201-29) for extra protection.

I used this U-pol paint to refresh the rusting 3 year old steel wheels on my Suzuki. Yes, they were actually less than 3 years old and going rusty! They were originally silver rims but now look so much better in Satin Black.
I watched some tutorials on YouTube and took my time. Looked great immediately and a year on, they still look like new. No chips, no flaking and no rust. Excellent quality paint, easy to use – and a full half litre in the can.
Item arrived well beaten dented and the lid was broken in half. The nozzel appeared undamaged but when it came to spraying it was intermittent between spraying properly and just spitting out fine spray.
This made spraying very difficult but luckily had another can of a different make to finish off. I used U-POL primer as well and that wasn’t as bad but wasn’t great. Wouldn’t choose this again, made a reasonably simple job a lot harder.
Bit disapointed in this product! I normally find u-pol products are of great quality and do a good job but i found this item to be thinner than i expected and it did not cover well needing more coats than i thought!.
seems to be a lot of propellant and not much paint in the can. Managed to get a half-reasonable finish but used a lot more than expected so in my opinion it is not good quality and does not represent good value!.
The automotive clear coat spray can is a great way to protect your car’s paint job. It is easy to use and provides a durable finish. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind when using this product.
First, be sure to follow the directions on the can carefully. Second, be sure to apply the clear coat evenly and in a well-ventilated area. Finally, be sure to allow the clear coat to dry completely before driving your car.
