20 Best 10000 Btu Window Air Conditioner
1. GE Energy Star 10,000 BTU Smart Electronic Window Air Conditioner for Medium Rooms Up to 450 Sq ft, 10000 115V, White
As the #1 Window Air Conditioner Brand in the United States, GE Appliances is dedicated to providing the right solutions for rooms of any size. Our window air conditioners are designed to offer exceptional comfort while remaining quiet, and our latest connected technology makes these products versatile and easy to use.
Energy efficient cooling with 3 cooling and 3 fan speeds provide flexible and optimal home comfort. Integration with the SmartHQ app allows you to monitor, schedule, and control your connected air conditioner from anywhere, or use the electronic controls with included remote to easily to adjust and manage your settings.
This AC installs easily in a double hung window with included EZ Mount window kit and fixed chassis. Additional features like energy saver, power interruption restart, 24-hour on/off timer, and removable filter offer ease of use and maintenance.
This AC unit was purchased through Home Depot and shipped UPS. The packaging was completely in tact and the product was in pristine condition. Installation requires only a few simple tools that anyone capable of installing the unit properly would certainly already own.
If you are not at least a little handy, get a helper who is. I have installed several units on old wooden sash windows and this one in an older aluminum frame window from the seventies. Sometimes you do have to make adjustments for a product installation.
Not a big deal to install, but follow the included installation instructions and get a helper. I believe it is possible for one person to install, but one slip with sweaty hands or forearms or a sticky window and it could be a very bad day.
The last thing you want is to have the unit fall out of the window and crash to the ground. Be sure to follow the install instructions in sequence. If you use the included filler panels, they need to go on the unit before the whole unit is placed in the opening.
I did read the instructions beforehand and knew this was necessary, but chose to quick-fit the unit without these in the way to see where the unit would sit and exactly where it would go first. My wife noticed right away when I called her back in the room to help with the final installation.
She said,”I guess these should have been installed first. ” I had to laugh. She was right. This is a nice unit. The controls are intuitive and the buttons on the unit and remote are large enough, clearly marked and provide good feedback.
I wish the temperature controls were on the remote as well as the main unit. Everything else you really need is on the remote. It cools great! I do wish the low setting was a little lower. I’m sure the fan would be a tad quieter and the low fan speed is more than plenty for the small office it is in.
My last GE window AC ran almost continuously for 3 years. We livid in South FL and weee using it in a back room that did not get cold enough from the central AC. To this day it is still working just fine.
Yet, we wanted a new unit that had the remote control and we chose the GE. Performance speaks louder then advertising and out last GE unit spoke loudy. We will keep the old unit as a back up for hurricane season to cool another bedroom if needed.
As a return specialist for a major home supplier (HD) I can tell you that “I rarely see this units come back, as opposed to other brands”. When I do it’s usually because the customer bought them back after short term use when there central ac is out and they are waiting for it to be repaired.
Not a nice thing to do by the way. Really great little units to have down here for hurricane season to set up a hurricane room to sleep in comfort running off a generator when the power is out for days.
So if you buy them for that central outage, keep them and store them away for that time you will need them and everyone is sold out of portables.
It gets pretty toast in my room during the summer days, especially with all my electronics and all on. I used to use a koldfront and another smaller 5k ge ac to keep my room cool, (yes two window ac units) now this single 8k unit from GE works 10x times better then my two single 5k units did.
I also love the fact that I can log into the smart app from anywhere (even from the store) and set what temperature I want my room at. Very convenient and useful. It also keeps track of energy in app.
So if you’re worried about a high electric bill you can monitor it via app. I would definitely recommend this. It also keeps my room at the actual set Temperature top. Others I’ve owned sometimes wouldn’t actual cool my room to what it was set to.
Checking with a room thermometer this one works very well at cooling. My room gets upwards of 80 something without this air.

it will cool a large room…only with additional fans blowing the cool air. also it has to be at a VERY SPECIFIC angle or it will fill up with the stinkiest water imaginable which then makes your entire house smell ANDOR it will spew stinky water inside and down the wall it sits atop.
additionally the air flow isn’t very strong. no big difference between low med or on high and even with the adjustable vents to change the direction of the airflow i have to position a fan right next to it for the air to flow in the direction of anything other than the wall.
they might as well use the money spent making that part and invest it into a stronger motor or something else. IT NEVER FROZE UP (even being left on lowest temp on highest setting for 12 hours) IS THE ONLY REASON ITS GETTING 3-STARS.
I am using it for a small bedroom. The air-conditioner is very quiet. I am not sure why other reviews say something differently. It cools the small bedroom so well that air also flows into the living room as well( when a.
c. is on high temperature). We rarely use high ( only on 90 degree or higher temperatures). My only complaint is that it is not electronically controlled ( manual turn knobs). However, for the price I am ok with this.
No complaints. Quiet, it cools and a great space saver ( very small).
So quiet and such a nice unit! We placed this unit in the dining room and cools the kitchen, dining room and living room lovely. Yes it states up to 550 ft2, and knowing these 3 areas were built around the fireplace, it does its job even in these 90 plus degree days.
It can be felt into the hallway, bathroom and partly in my room (which gets the most sun). Definitely worth the price. Fed eEx delivered it quickly and they even knew to keep it leveled and not on its side.
Kudos to them and bravo to this unit. Worth it 100!.

First off blew my mind to see the condition the box was in from there my hopes were shaky. Back of the unit had a large gash in it. I have never struggled with one of these units ever and this one I do not like can’t adjust the vent downwards only sideways (Ridiculous) had to go buy a battery for the remote which I’ve never had to do.
I had it on 68 to test the cool Not that cool at all… missing my old unit.
I had never seen a Black and Decker air conditioner in my Life, and I am 80 years old. This unit works fantastic. Yes, I will recommend it to my friends. And I will also mention where I purchase it at Finger Hut.
I purchased this unit on May 1 2019. I’m having problems with it staying on one temperature and not blowing cold air. My selected temperature will not stay on what I set it to. The company or servicer technician couldn’t help us.
I would not recommend buying this unit. Unless you purchased a warranty through walmart. com.

With a Keystone window air conditioner, you and your family can relax in cool, blissful comfort.
PROS: • Good price. • Very light weight. Easy to carry to upper floors. • Simple assembly and installed in window in under 10 minutes. • Quiet as compared to the GE AHP06LZ I purchased 2 yrs ago for about the same price.
(I can sleep with it on low. ) CONS: (Just one) • The idea of the “Follow Me” function is nice, but in this remote it’s poorly implemented. It works as long as the remote can “see” the AC unit and is pointed at it.
An RF based remote, instead of this IR type wouldn’t have such limitations. Overall I’m very pleased with this purchased and would recommend it.
For the price, it’s been great. It came with everything to install it and the directions were pretty good. However it does feel cheap. The plastics are not high quality, don’t for together easily and the only difference between the energy star model and the non energy star model is 2 clips to hold the bottom more securely to the window frame and a piece of foam on the bottom to insulate better.
I was kind of disappointed. That being said, it has worked well. It keeps the room nice and cool and the energy save mode has been helpful. For the price, I am happy with it, but I had to stop at 4 stars because of the plastic issues.
I mean it’s quiet, Powerful, many features. Build quality seems top notch. Cools very well for 5000 unit. So good in fact I purchased the 8000btu model , (Sorry Best Buy but it came from Home Depot ) and I was even more impressed.
These are extremely well built, quiet , functional and powerful units. Not sold on the “follow me “remote setting though. It doesn’t really seem to work accurately. More of a gimmick I would say. But it’s not really needed on units this small.
I mean seriously. Maybe in a room that’s huge and for that you’re probably gonna want something more advanced.
GE Appliances is dedicated to providing the right solutions for rooms of any size. Window air conditioners are designed to offer exceptional comfort while remaining quiet, and our latest connected technology makes these products versatile and easy to use.
The unit puts out amazingly cold air, which is the best part. Had issues with connecting the app which turned out to be caused by my VPN I run on my phone. Disabled it and was able to finish set up and connect to AC.
No need to disable after that. The compressor had a vibration to it that resonated through the window and wall around it from day one. Initially it had a intermittent rattle/squeak on high fan that would change pitch and go away when switched to low or medium speed.
After a few days it would do it at lower speeds too. The last straw was a constant loud chirp at 2:30 am. Uninstalled it and took it back to where I purchased it to exchange, but since it was a order only item they wouldn’t honor the price I purchased it for.
It had gone up significantly, so I decided to not reorder. If it were not for this, I would of given it a second try. If you get one without the issues I had, you will be amazed at how quiet it is and how cold it gets.
I have owned other GE products in the past and have always been pleased. I think I just happened to get a lemon this time. That can happen with any brand.
This GE profile smart inverter window air conditioner is great for any home. The 10,000 BTU is big enough to cool two or three rooms in your home. We have a 800 ft cottage and it keeps most of it cool.
It was very easy to install following the instructions that were given in the box. I would take everything out lay it out look at the steps and install according to the instructions you can get a seal from any hardware store to seal it if you want a better seal than what is already there.
The remote control is great because you can use it to set your temperatures from wherever you are in the house. I like that it comes with an app and using the app you can set your temperatures while you’re at home or while you’re away.
You can check the app and use it to monitor temperatures and all of that while you’re away. I like that you can move the vents around and you can have it up down or side so that it will go in any direction you want it to go in.
This a pretty cool AC unit. The inverter makes it energy efficient but the temperature it reads is not necessarily the temperature of the room. Im using a 10k btu unit in a 140 sq ft room with decent insulation.
When set to 64 degrees, it is really about 66 in the room at the coldest. Also, The app has a power draw feature so it tells you how much energy you are using per day and at that moment in time. The weird thing about this unit is it has a giant hole on the bottom which serves no obvious purpose.
So I covered it with one of those fruit fly meshes and tape. Overall. I’d recommend the unit.
The new Chill Premier Series is Friedrich’s Premium Line of “smart” room air conditioners. Chill Premier is an efficient line of 115 Volt air conditioners with integrated WiFi. The line features QuietMaster technology which results in quieter cooling operation, as much as 25% quieter than competition. QuietMaster technology features heavy duty insulation on the inner wall for sound absorption as well as a stiffened sheet metal casing to help block external noise.
Vibration reducing counterweights also help to reduce the sound. Additionally, the wide discharge vents optimize airflow and minimize front panel noise. The CCF10A10A features 3 cooling speeds, plus 3 fan-only settings and auto fan, 8-way air flow control and a new one-piece frame for fast, easy installation.
Of course it includes the standard installation hardware and expandable side curtains and it weighs about 75 lbs. Other features include: Remote Control 24 hour timer Sleep setting Washable, antimicrobial filters to help prevent mold and bacterial growth Money Saver setting saves money by operating the fan only when cooling Washable, antimicrobial air filter These are just some of the features that make this Friedrich unit a great value.
And, Friedrich air conditioners are made with the finest materials and highest quality components. These models are easy to use, provide fast, powerful cooling and are exceptionally energy efficient.
I picked this AC because Friedrich is a top of the line brand and it did not disappoint! I had previously ordered a cheaper AC that I had to return which was difficult and exhausting. This time I chose Sylvane and a top notch brand and it is incredible.
Shipping was fast and customer service was excellent. The AC is incredible at cooling my two bedroom apartment. It has dry mode which can dehumidify on high humid days which is fantastic as well as wifi enabled ability and a good remote.
It came with extras to get a good deal in just about any window which made install easy, I put it in myself and I’m a single mom with limited knowledge on these things but it was a breeze. We had a strange weather condition that gave us 118 degree temps on Oregon by the coast and this AC kept me cool throughout the entire heatwave.
The Best air conditioner I have ever owned. I would highly recommend this to anyone. It is an amazing product. Cools quickly. Runs quietly compared to other window units out there. Set the temperature and the unit keeps it at the temperature you set it at.
WiFi capable so you can control your unit from anywhere, saving you even more on energy consumption. Easy to install and it looks very nice. Worth every penny. I am so glad to have found this!!!.
Top quality. I have two other window units of a different brand do the comparison highlighted how well this one works and how well made it is. The install is a little tricky at first, but it makes sense once you have it in, it’s designed so that an intruder can’t remove the unit from the outside.
This a/c is quiet and did not raise my electric bill much. I plan to purchase two more as I’m not ready to undertake duct installation at this time. I was impressed at how well this handled the humidity this summer.

Reviews From Real Customers
I purchased both a 8000 and a 10,000 BTU Friedrich Chill air conditioner in 2020. I only use the units for July and August, and each year I winter the units in my storage unit in my building. The 8000 BTU unit has been fine and cools efficiently.
So did the 10,000 BTU unit but it did not work the second season after only using it for 11 weeks the previous year. It was still under warranty so it was replaced by the company. But just like the first one, this replacement AC only lasted for 11 weeks, so the company replaced it again as well.
Ready to take the units out of the window this season, and again, after only 11 weeks of use, the 10,000 BTU unit does not cool at all. A service person always comes out and has again confirmed that the coolant has leaked out and that the AC can no longer provide cooled air.
Each time I was told it could not be repaired. I was unwilling to try a FOURTH one and asked for money back. To keep me on as a customer and even asked if there were other models that they make that might perform better but that had nothing to suggest.
Clearly, there is a design failure in the seal used for the the coolant in these units. Seems absolutely ridiculous to have to throw away an appliance that was only used for 11 weeks – EACH ONE! I purchased this brand because of it’s reputation here on the east coast.
My 97 year old neighbor has had a Friedrich unit since the 70’s. Clearly, the previous manufacturing abilities were better than the present ones being used. Terrible experience.
Bought Chill Premier to replace 20 year old Friedrich 10k BTU window unit. I’ve bought 2 Chill Premiers, 18k BTU and 24k BTU, which work well for the large area they service. This 12k BTU is used in a bedroom with high ceilings.
I looked forward to cooling comfort and quiet operation. This delivered on the cooling, but air blowing noise proved intolerable. On the lowest fan setting, air blew through vents with a volume perhaps too great for the small vent openings.
Whether automated or manual setting, the rapid air movement creates a lot of noise. This is the Bernoulli Principle. Larger vents would allow same volume of air without the strong rush. I have been brand loyal, bought 5 Friedrichs recently.
This one is the most disappointing because of the noise. I thought other reviewers were exaggerating, but they weren’t. I replaced the 12k BTU with a highly rated competitor’s model which can run at high fan speed as well as very low and get cooling and comfort as I expected.
Can now see if the competitor’s brand lasts 20 years without a problem as did the Friedrich. I only buy models that have a removable outer case. It’s much easier to mount in a window without risk of dropping the unit.
Both Friedrich and the competitor offer this feature.
Purchased this new unit to replace older Friedrich wall/sleeve unit. Be sure to buy new Friedrich uni fit sleeve which does not come with new a/c as in the past. The new uni fit sleeve will fit the old sleeve rough opening dimensions but I had to add a 1/2 inch piece of cut plywood to the upper frame to fill in the slightly smaller height of the new sleeve.
The new sleeve and new ac comes with multiple foam strip options and the instructions are not helpful whatso ever and are very confusing. I called Friedrich techs twice for guidance and it is not easy to get through to them.
Bottom line is that the new uni fit sleeve can hold three different sizes of Friedrich ac and the largest BTU unit fits snug while the smaller BTU units must be centered inside sleeve with the seals placed around the new unit and inside the sleeve.
There is an architectural frame that comes with new ac and covers the gap between the sleeve and new ac however the inside moldings around the ac sleeve will have to be removed and new ones cut, installed and painted to allow the sleeve cover to be mounted flush.
The power cord CANNOT be routed to either side of new unit and exits from lower left side of unit. The original unit I purchased in 2007, (which still works!), required dedicated line, circuit breaker upgrade and heavy duty outlet.
The new unit can be used on existing line however you will need to install standard wall outlet and different size circuit breaker in main panel, requiring an electrician. Total cost was just under $1,000.
00 and I performed all labor other than electrician. The new Friedrich Chill units are half the price of the uni-fit and come with new sleeve, however you will have to modify entire rough opening, removing siding on outside, adding sheathing, and adding sheetrock/ new paint on inside, so I chose the uni fit option to avoid that.
The new ac is 30% more efficient then what I replaced and is quiet and works extremely well. I have another Friedrich wall sleeve unit and will probably upgrade that as well with the uni fit system now that I am confident with the first installation of the one I purchased.
You can put a uni-fit in an older sleeve but I would advise against it as the new unit has to be sealed in a particular way that would be very complicated as opposed to the new sleeve I purchased, which is why the new unit comes with so many foam sealing options that are not ultimately needed.
Bottom line is that nothing is easy with this install so don’t plan on having it done in a hour or so which is what I thought it might take when I purchased this. You can purchase the KUHL model for several hundred dollars more than the uni-fit and that comes with new sleeve that fits exactly into old sleeve dimensions.
Overall, I’m satisfied with uni fit option I chose.
This Commercial Cool 10000 BTU window air conditioner is a must-have for instant cooling relief when you need it in any room in your home. Bedrooms, living rooms, home offices and ideal for apartmentsthis small window air conditioner is a perfect addition when the warm weather months roll in.
With a high-quality compressor offering 10,000 chilling BTUs, you can circulate air with the fan only function or cool a room up to 450 square feet. This window unit uses R32 refrigerant which has zero impact on the ozone layer, so you can stay comfortable indoors without harming the planet.
In fact, this 10k BTU window air conditioner improves energy efficiency by up to 10% compared with R-410A. Because R32 is more efficient than R-410A, less refrigerant is needed, increasing the life of the air conditioner and the planet, Enjoy the electronic digital display and a handy remote control, so you dont have to get up from the couch in humid, sweltering weather.
Easy to install with 2 people, a bit heavy for me but it cools down my 400 Square Foot Room from 110 outside to the 60s easily. Room smells fresh also. Not sure if battery came with the remote though, if it did I lost it.
Easy to install and operate this window-mounted air conditioner quickly cools and dehumidifies a room. Equipped with a programmable 24-hour onoff timer you can customize cooling time to fit your schedule for immediate comfort when you get home.
3 cooling speeds eco mode and sleep mode all give you the flexibility you need to keep you and your loved ones cool. Plus maintenance is a breeze with the removable and washable air filter. The included remote control with LCD display allows you to control the unit from across the room.
After a power failure unit automatically restarts when power is restored. 8-way directional air louvers directs the air where you need it. Uses an LCD power cord with 3-prong grounded plug using an 115 Volt electrical outlet.
You buy something new like I did with this A/C. So not to have to worry with the problems of buying used. I probably could have got more service out of a 10 year old used rusted-out unit. This new unit started with problems only 2 months into use.
It would electronically adjust on it`s on temp up to 88 on the digital setting readout. Which quit cooling at that temp set. The control would lockout and you couldn`t get any function on keypad to work.
Unplug unit for a hour,it would reset, then malfunction again within minutes. Finally after a couple days, the unit electronically set it self to 61. Doesn`t seen possible, but that was on readout. It locked and stayed at that temp for another 1 1/2 months.
Had to leave door cracked in room to get rid of the excess cold air. I used unit like that,at least it was cooling. So much trouble trying to remove and deal with the long return or repair process. Now less than 4 months in, it`s totally locked at 88 again, not cooling, won`t reset.
All it`s doing is blowing hot-air. Biggest piece of junk I`ve ever purchased. Lucky I took out a Protection Plan. Or I`d probably be stuck with this garbage. No to deal with all the headaches that come with filing a claim.
Wouldn`t recommend this unit to someone I didn`t like.
I already had two of these units and they work so well. They are powerful and work incredibly well. They are amazing at keeping rooms freezing (we love it super cold for my kids health issues) while keeping humidity low.
I just bought this third unit as my son’s current room unit makes it very humid and doesn’t get cold enough. We have Central air but my children have chronic illnesses that make cause their bodies to be unable to regulate temperature.
Have had this in use less than a year! It’s been in the window for 2 months: all buttons stopped working. The temperature starts rising on the unit display and buttons won’t work to turn is down. Been on with customer service 4x today and they are not doing anything.

I still vivadly remember in 1970 when I was 6 or 7 years old my parents bought Frigidaire refrigerator for home. As kids we literally abuses that thing it was still working great when I left my parents house at 19 years of age.
Since then I have bought mostly Frigidaire appliances it is an excellent American appliance brand that lasts forever but unfortunately Walmart is giving it a bad name. Fast forward to 2022 just last week I bought two window A/C units for our country home in Texas.
Both came with NO serial and model numbers. One of them came with a dent on the side and the other one started making metallic grounding noise as soon as it was plugged in it continued to make that noice intermittently and next day WiFi quit working and the third day the whole unit stopped working al together.
On the advise of Walmart online shipping representative I called Frigidaire but I was told that since these are refurbished appliances there is no replacement warranty on them. Its July when we get temperature as high as 110°F and now I’m stuck with a useless piece of brick.
Frigidaire is a great brand but it seems to me that who ever is refurbishing these A/C units has not been diligent enough with their work as well as Walmart shipping department do not seem to be taking care of quality control before shipping merchandise to customers.
Our old window unit finally died after 4 years, so it was time for an upgrade. We had a 10,000 BTU unit for an 830 square foot house, and it just didn’t quite cut it. We saw this 15000 unit, and corcthe price, couldn’t pass it up.
Best decision we ever made! This unit is a beast! Install was simple, purchased the window bracket as well, due to the larger size and weight. Bracket comes with all necessary accessories to make sure it fits your window frame, and the Ac units directions were fool proof.
Purchased in May, and this thing has been a life saver 10 times over so far. Reaches every room with ease, and it gets too cold sometimes, but the thermostat works flawlessly, fan on Auto, Eco mode, and it’s perfect.
Connecting the Frigidaire app is seemless, and perfect for when you’re in bed, and want to adjust temperature without having to get up. All in all, this unit is exactly what we were looking for, and I only wish we found it 4 years ago! Highly recommend this unit if you have a small home, or a large room 800-1000 Sq.
Ft. That you want to cool down, without stressing the unit out, or breaking the bank! Thanks again!.
I’ve only had my Frigidaire air conditioner for a month, so far I am extremely happy with it. It cools down my open plan living room and dining room to a livable temperature, For added coolness I position a large fan pointed at the dining room (the unit is in the living room) to achieve maximum cool.
I don’t know how I lived without it and I never needed it until climate change started taking its toll. Installation is easy although it requires two people, functions are self explanatory and I love Eco mode.
I have a very old house so was afraid it would draw most of the electricity but so far so good. I like the open to the outside vent option although I can’t tell if it makes much of a difference. Unfortunately because I have an old house, nothing is level so I have to figure out a way to weatherstrip my doors.
Aside from that, this was the best decision I have made.
LG ElectronicsMSRP $420. 00Model #LW1016ERDescription:BTU Rating: 10000AMP Rating: 7Voltage: 115Effective Area: 400-500 ft Wattage: 820Cubic Feet per Minute: 280. 00This listing is for ONE Window A/C Unit as described and pictured.
There are light signs of previous use. The fan hits something when it runs so the air conditioner is noisy. There are a few dents/scratches but all functions work. Please refer to our pictures, photos, and description.
Put those installation directions to one side, Very poor directions. Two of the screws that hold the unit to the cabinet was replaced with other screws. There was suppose to be 14 type A screws, There was only 12, The frame guide has to be for another unit since it doesn’t fit on this unit.
The directions say to pull the unit straight out from the cabinet, You have to lift and pull. On the positive side, It was so nice installing it with just the cabinet and putting the unit in the cabinet after the cabinet was in place.
I installed this when the humidity was 90%, After I turned the unit on, It didn’t take very long for the humidity to all in my apartment. I put it on the energy saver and let it go. Two days later the heat index was above 100 for a few days.
After adjusting both direction for the air flow, It was nice and cool in my apartment those days when the heat index was in the 100’s. I only had it on the first fan speed since there are three fan speed and energy saver and kept cool.
Energy saver is you set the temperature, When it reaches that temperature the fan and compressor turnoff until needed again, The fan starts every so often to check the air temperature.
In all fairness, I have only had this installed for 1 week. Our electricity bill had gone through the roof. Being very cautious and owning energy efficient appliances, light bulbs etc, we could not figure out where the energy was being used.
Once realizing that our perfect working 16 year old air conditioner may be the culprit, we ordered this based on reviews. Our electricity provider offers an energy management program which allows you to see what time of day you are using energy and how much on a daily basis.
Since installing this 1 week ago, our daily usage as gone from an average of 35-39 kilowatts per day to 9-13 over the last week. We found the culprit. Furthermore. This is an attractive, much lighter and is super quiet compared to our older model.
So far, we are very pleased. LG does it again. I own several LG products and have not been disappointed.
This unit is a pain to install. The inside workings have to be slid out, and the shell installed, and leveled in the window. Then the chassis is slid in, and hey, this thing isn’t light! I nearly killed myself trying to get this in the window.
Who designed this? The unit I received has a fan that doesn’t run fast enough. All the fan speeds barely move any air. High isn’t much different than medium, and low. The unit is quiet, but with a poor fan speed, it takes a long time to cool the room.
Not happy with this purchase. This unit should have been checked for proper operation before it was sold. I could send it back, but the box broke apart, and I’ve already spent too much time, money and effort with this unit.
No local repair, or exchange when you buy from the internet. Spend a few extra dollars and have someone local install, and warranty it.
The RCA 10,000 BTU window air conditioner is perfect for cooling a room up to 400 square feet. This window-mounted unit features electronic controls for customizable comfort. The adjustable air louvers allow you to direct the air exactly where you want to be cool.
The easy install window mounting kit makes installation a breeze so you can get your home cooler faster.
DO NOT! And I repeat DO NOT purchase a Frigidaire air conditioner. I purchased a Frigidaire 6000 btu in June 2020 from PC Richard. It functioned perfectly through 2020 and 2021. I placed it back in operation on 6/1/22.
The unit displays a “CS” error code indicating a condenser sensor fault. It’s obviously out of warranty but after a weeks research a half dozen air conditioner repair shops will not even look at a Frigidaire air conditioner.
The reason is that repair parts are not available. I called Frigidaire and their parent company Electrolux and verified that, in fact, a replacement condenser sensor is not available. So now a not quite two year old air conditioner is garbage for the lack of a Chinese made $20.
00 sensor. That’s ridiculous. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing a Frigidaire product from PC Richard or any other retailer for the matter.
Replaced my old, incredibly noisy 12,000 BTU Frigidaire with this unit. The old one had a MUCH larger control panel that was 10 times easier to read than this unit. In daylight you cannot see the LED green light here to know where you are in the cool/fan cycle – the text and images are that small.
It’s barely visible at night. we need to jerryrig a canopy to cover the top of the machine so we have darkness to read the controls by when they light up. The remote hasn’t been upgraded in years and does not provide that information.
It’s quieter than the previous unit, but the poorly designed , badly placed control panel (much lower down on the unit, so when the unit is under the window, you have to squat down to read it) give it a D+ rating.
And this unit was close to $600. Would not purchase again. Need a unit I can have easy visual access to.
It’s always easier to handle the heat and stickiness of the summer weather if your home is kept cool and comfortable. You can be sure to keep the heat outside with this popular Energy Star compliant 10,000 BTU casement air conditioner.
The unit can easily cool down an area of up to 450 square feet while it’s sweltering outside. This unit features four-way air direction as well as an easy-to-program electronic LED temperature control which can be programmed remotely.
The air conditioner operates on environmentally-friendly R410A refrigerant. You can also save power with the energy-saver switch which cycles the appliance’s fan on and off to reduce energy consumption.
The unit fits my 48″ x 48″ slider window easily. I wish the blocking panel it comes with was taller; I have about 4 more inches I had to figure out a solution for in order to fully block the empty space above the unit.
The temperature is 3 degrees off (too high), but otherwise it cools fine, is quieter than my portable unit, and shuts off completely when the temperature is reached. The instructions for installation are very poor – gives no indication of how to use most of the assorted screws in the bag of hardware or even which ones for which step.
My window frame has a higher set of ledges on the outside than they were expecting, so I didn’t use the included mounting bracket. I instead built a wood frame for it to sit on (properly sloped). It was much harder and took longer to set up than your average window unit.
A few other concerns – the row of slots in the side of the unit for air intake (outside) are big, like a half inch wide. I am expecting to get a ton of wasp nests getting built in there, but I’m afraid to put a screen and potentially block the air intake.
It doesn’t drain well – I see no actual way for condensation water to exit the unit outside. It pools up about a half inch deep inside the back half of the unit. As a result, the water gets into the channel where the exhaust fan runs, and the fan throws water all over the inside (and some back on my window outside the building).
The drag of going through the water also makes the fan make a little bit more noise than when it’s dry. I hope this doesn’t shorten the life of the unit.
Bought this AC as it was reasonably priced option for my sliding window. I wish I did not do that and opted for something else. With in couple of minutes of starting the AC I have heard a noise and saw a floating piece inside.
Quickly turned it off only to find our that the flimsy foam/plastic covering the outlet vent is broken and I can see the power supply on top of it coming out. I am not why its designed like this aka to a heavy power supply on top of such light material.
Anyways called Home depot customer care and opened a ticket. Not sure what is going to be the outcome but for sure I wont recommend this to anyone.
Works as described and fairly easy to install but highly recommend 2 people for installation. I have used portable air conditioners and generally speaking it is quieter than those but still louder than expected.
Although it is louder than I was hoping for, when it switches from air conditioner to fan to maintain the temperature, it is a lot quieter than a portable air conditioner. I am easily able to sleep with this in the room compared to the portable counterpart.
I bought an 8000 btu window conditioner around the same time and that one is a different brand and much quieter than this model but I don’t know if that is due to less btu’s. Overall better than a portable, cools way better but it could be quieter.
Enter the realm of cool comfort! Easy to install and operate, the Whirlpool 10,000 BTU window-mounted air conditioner quickly cools and dehumidifies a room up to 450 square feet. Equipped with a programmable 24-hour on/off timer, you can customize cooling time to fit your schedule for immediate comfort when you get home.
Three cooling speeds, Eco mode, and Sleep mode all give you the flexibility you need to keep you and your loved ones cool and comfortable. Plus, maintenance is a breeze with the removable and washable air filter.
This unit seems to be a good unit and it cools fairly well. It was replacing a 24000 but GE window unit that finally died after more than 20 years. That thing could really blow out a lot of cold air.
The new units only have a one year warranty. It seems it is that way for most brands on these window units. I got the wifi connected model which is only $20 or $30 more than the non connected model. I would definitely buy the connected model.
This allows you to set programs and schedules for the cooler from your smart phone. This cooler is definitely quieter then my old unit. The led display that shows the temperature is small and is only visible for a short time after you make a change to the a/c unit with the controller.
I am sure this is like this because people complained it was too bright when they were trying to sleep. Fridgidaire had one of the lowest prices on their website and they offered free 2nd day shipping.
I figured with the fast shipping the unit would have less chance of being damaged in shipping. I was wrong, it was damaged anyway. Fridgidaire was good about offering to send me a free replacement or a 20% discount on the damaged unit it if I wanted to keep it.
The Frigidaire brand was one of if not the top brand rated by consumer reports. As expensive as these units are, it is too bad they only have a one year warranty.
Being a Floridian I have a large, 429 sqft Florida Room with insulated roof and vinyl windows. For about half the year this is awesome and if the room gets a little warm you can just open the windows but from Late May through Late September it’s just too hot and humid.
We had been looking for a good AC for this room and the LG 18,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner looks like it is going to fit the bill perfectly! I had tried a smaller 9,000 BTU unit and it struggles too much with the mid-summer heat but this beast of an AC doesn’t even break a sweat! Packaging/In the Box – Upon opening the box I found the AC to be very well packaged/protected, this was a concern of mine due to the size and weight of the unit itself.
Removing the unit from the box/packaging was easy with some help, I highly suggest using two people for the entire unboxing and removal as this unit does weigh over 100lbs. Included with the unit are the instructions, the AC unit itself, a remote control, two PE foam strips, the left and right curtain panels, and install hardware.
Installation/Setup – Installation was easy with the instructions being very straight-forward. I love the fact that this is a “slide in unit” which allows you to slide off the outer shell, make the installation and then slide in the unit once that process is complete.
I know most installs are done window height through a double hung window but for my application we did install at ground level in a panel on the side of the Florida room. Note this install method is not supported but worked with little modification for my needs.
This unit is Wi-Fi enabled and can be controlled via the ThinQ app and can be integrated with Google or Alexa. In my case we integrated with my Google Home setup. App install and Google integration was as easy as expected for a current smart device.
Use – The on-board controls for the unit are as expected for basically any AC and resemble those for a central AC unit. The remote control is pretty basic and includes controls for power, temperature, Fan speed, Timer and Mode.
Personally, I control the unit via Google home or the ThinQ app. In the two days we have been using the unit we have had a temperature of 93 and 91 and the LG AC has kept our Florida room to a very comfortable 74 without having to stay constantly running! My Final thoughts on the LG 18,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air is that this is a huge winner for me and anyone wanting a smart window AC.
The ease of install, the quality of the unit itself and finally the easy Google home integration make this sheer perfection. Thank you LG!!!!.
Both items arrived promptly and well packaged. Following the printed instructions, my installer cut the hole in our bedroom wall, built the necessary footer and header support and attached the sleeve without any problem.
AC unit was then slipped into place (takes two people). Then patched up the wallboard and necessary caulking inside and outside. Came back next day for paint touchup. Overall less than eight hours total.
Turned on unit and it ran and cooled as advertised. Actually less noisy than I expected. Have not used for a summer season yet, but overall very satisfied so far. Our bedroom is over 400 sq. ft. and faces West with large windows.
This Garrison window air conditioner uses R-32 refrigerant to cool rooms. It includes a remote control for more convenient cooling. Using this air conditioner is better for the environment. It meets CSA certification standards.
|Cools rooms measuring 400 to 450 sq. ft. |Self-evaporative system|Electronic control panel with digital display|4-mode control|Remote control with “Follow Me’ temperature sensor for more convenient cooling|Includes mounting hardware for easier installation|Fits standard, double-hung windows.
This unit is true to size and it’s working quite well. I’m using it for my tenants home and she loves it! It came pretty quickly and was boxed perfectly. I am very pleased with this purchase. Thank you!.
Keep the summer heat at bay and enjoy a never-ending cool breeze with the Koldfront 10,000 BTU Vertical Casement Air Conditioner (CAC10000W). Please note this unit is designed for casement (left to right sliding) windows only, and will not work for windows that open up and down.
This compact air conditioner is engineered to supply spaces from 400 to 450 square feet with 10,000 BTUs of cooling power, making it an essential addition to bedrooms, living rooms and studies. You can conveniently install the CAC10000W in almost any space you need; it’s designed to fit windows from 15-1/2 to 16-1/4 inches wide with a minimum height of 20-5/16 inches up to 39-7/16 inches.
Take advantage of the unit’s included remote control to adjust features and operation settings from up to 16 feet away. This window air conditioner meets strict requirements set by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency to guarantee eco-friendly operation.
We researched at length to decide on this model. This ac installed just fine in a sliding window where a typical window unit doesn’t fit. Sized properly for the room, it cools well. The air intake can be adjusted to recirculate indoor air or to draw outdoor air in—if you’re not cooling it can serve as a fan.
This ac is quiet enough for the bedroom, and the remote has a number of features in addition to being handy. For example, you can set the ac to monitor the temperature at the remote, which makes it possible to achieve cooling where it matters most.
Then it can run based on that thermostat, which is more efficient (and easier) than repeatedly adjusting the temperature by feel.
I did a fairly in depth search for a new air conditioner when our old one started sounding like a jet air plane taking off. After calling the distributor he gave me advice on the size of A/C unit that I would need for my house.
This was important because I was able to get the correct one (I was going to order a bigger one) and it does a great job! I live in western Oregon where it can get humid at times. So far its been working great and is much quieter than the previous one in it’s prime.
I am very pleased with it and I also got a veteran discount which was a great. The customer service people were great and didn’t try to up sell me “just because” while making sure I got the right one for the job.
It was nice to get a vertical A/C unit that fit my type of windows as well. The directions were easy to follow with all the necessary parts included. I will definitely order from them again.
I’ve only had the unit a short time but so far it seems to do the job cooling my large master bedroom and bath. It seems fairly quiet as well. So far no huge jump in my electric bill. It was bigger and heavier than expected so much more difficult to install than I thought it would be.
I don’t want to leave it in during the fall , winter and spring so I just jury-rigged a temporary arrangement to hold it in the window for the rest of the cooling seasonl.
The Impecca IWA10-KS30 Window Air Conditioner, is a high quality unit. It provides 10,000 BTU performance cooling, which will easily cool a room up to 450 sq. ft. Guide the air flow as you like with its 8-way air director.
In the case of a power outage, the Impecca Preferred air conditioner will memorize and resume at your temperature settings when power is restored.
Replaced a 17 year old 8000 btu. Does an equal job and uses 300+ watts less. Not really meant for through the wall installation, but mine is, on a 30 ft trailer. It uses the condensate water to cool the condenser coil.
Happy with purchase. It keeps it cool in here when it is 98 degrees outside. Not quiet on high, but tolerable.
Comes with everything needed to install and works like a charm. Does exactly what I wanted it to do. Fit in my bedroom window perfect and gives me that extra cooling that our whole house A/C unit couldn’t.
My bedroom just needed a little extra and this unit is perfect for that purpose.
Beat the heat with GE’s 10000 BTU Window Smart Air Conditioner with 2. 5 Pts/Hr Dehumidification. It comes with a built-in WiFi Connect so that you can control your unit remotely. Its digital thermostat lets you choose between 3 cooling settings and 3 fan speeds.
It also lets you set up the 24-hour on/off timer, and also displays the time. It also maintains the moisture in the room as it comes with a 2. 5 pt/hr dehumidifying feature. The included EZ Mount side curtain makes window installation effortless.
In this review, I will make comparisons to a four-year-old LG 8,000 BTU window air conditioner which the GE unit replaced. The LG unit is still available, but was not in stock locally, so I had to change brands.
Overall, the size, functionality, performance, appearance, and installation of the GE and LG units are very similar. The GE fan seems a bit noisier than the LG’s; the GE compressor seems a bit quieter.
Outside noise is modest and should not bother anyone except a neighbor who is too close for comfort. Eco mode cycles are longer with the GE than with the LG, both for off time and for fan-only to sense the air.
This may produce slightly larger temperature swings. The GE remote has greater range than does the LG remote, and it works from an angle almost perpendicular to the face of the unit. The GE has no ventilation or fresh-air capability.
This design probably results in better isolation of the inside from outside dust and humidity. I never used the feature on the LG, but if you need fresh air, take note. I was able to re-use two of the four screw holes that position the left and right-side curtain frames.
I had one problem mounting the GE unit into my 1975-era Anderson windows. The vertical alignment of the top mounting rail vis a vis the bottom mounting rail was off by about 1/4″. As a result, the air conditioner tipped slightly backward, toward the house.
That is undesirable. After considering various alternatives, I settled on using a large pair of slip-joint pliers to bend the top mounting rail toward the room. I proceeded gradually, and used a washcloth to protect the finish.
With the top mounting rail bent about twenty-degrees, the outside now tilts away from the house sufficiently to ensure proper operation. Whether this problem is unique to my window I cannot say. The GE unit includes Wi-Fi connectivity.
I do not need it, and so did not test it. Bottom line: The GE unit is ok and does the job.
For 18000 BTU with 220V Air Conditioners there are limited choice in the market and what whatever choice available in the market is costlier and I have selected this GE AC because it was on deal and price was $ 539.
99. Cooling of this Air Conditioner is very good and this cooling effect will be better if I install exhaust fain in Attic and good insulation in the Attic and that I do not have installed yet. Now a days WIFI features are very common in almost all devices.
I have installed ” Comfort GE Appliances” from Play store and that app works fine but rating of this app is 2. 3 stars. This App will not detect device when I click on the app Icon for the first time and when I click second time on the App icon then this App will detect my GE AC.
With remote control and with Android App of GE, I can control functions of this GE AC. The sound of this GE AC is noticeable when it is on high speed or Auto mode, it means sound of fan of the AC is more than other model.
Further I availed this installation facility from P C Richard and that was too costly and for installation of AC, I required insurance liability certificate from P C Richards as it was required by my apartment management.
P C Richards took over two weeks to issue required insurance certificate and that process was irritating for me. P C Richard team does pre installation survey before installation of Air conditioner and I paid $ 54.
44 for that service and that amount should be refundable once PC Richards team does installation of Air conditioner. After two weeks of installation of AC, still I have not received refund of that charge of $ 54.
44 [ pre installation survey charges]. Still I am following up with P C Richards for refund of $ 54. 44. When I visited store, Sales person told me that pre-installation survey charges are refundable once installation is done by P C Richard team.
As far as functionality goes, this product works as expected. Its an AC unit, it blows cold air and starts very quickly, I’m very happy in this area. GE hit the nail on the head. However the implementation of the smart features I found to be very challenging.
I grew up in the digital era so the concept of pairing a device with wifi is not a new concept. With this product, the engineer who designed it must have clearly said to himself “this is not broke but let me fix it anyhow.
” The instructions to pair the unit to your Wifi are followed through the app on your mobile device and are are abysmal; related product reference photos are out of date with this model. Further this unit only seems to pair with WiFi in the 2.
4Ghz band, for most this might not be an issue, but for others using updated WiFi technology as in Wifi 5 or Wifi 6 (using 5Ghz band) this could be an issue for them. I also say “seems” because the app showed my Wifi 5/6 SSIDs as available for pairing but the 45+ minutes I tried to get this to work finally made be realize it must not be supported.
It would have saved me much time to state the tech limitations upfront or have the app recognize this and push a pop-up message to alert the user. I am also an iOS user, perhaps this experience is different with Android.
Which reminds me HomeKit is not supported with this unit, not a show stopper for me but maybe for others. Rating the overall unit to include all features, solely for this PITA setup, I am not giving this unit a 5 star rating and give the features 1 star.
However if I had to rate the unit solely on its mechanical operations I would gladly give it 5 stars.
