2020 MTV Film & TV Awards Names the Greatest of All Time Winners

If you tuned into the 2020 MTV Film & TV Awards, you likely noticed that things were pretty different—just like everything else this year. So many of the movies and shows we had been looking forward to seeing were either postponed or canceled, leaving little to celebrate at a ceremony.
The producers pivoted and managed to give us something interesting and fun anyway, which was a welcome reprieve from the incredibly depressing headlines. Instead of honoring individual movies and television series, they shone a spotlight on the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in those mediums. They covered everything from the 1980s to the present.
Hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, the event skipped announcing any nominees ahead of time. The winners of categories such as “Hero for the Ages” and “Heartbreaking Break-Up,” therefore, were a complete mystery. The entire ceremony observed social distancing and included some hilarious and surprising appearances.

First, let’s talk about Jamie Lee Curtis—one of our favorite celebrity moms and GOAT Scream Queen! Scream star, Neve Campbell, presented Curtis, a 62-year-old mother of two, with the award honoring her dominance of the horror genre, dating back to her film debut in 1978’s Halloween as Laurie Strode.
Curtis welcomed her onscreen nemesis, Michael Myers, to join her as they celebrated the win (the speech contained some pretty funny moments!). “Don’t be scared, they love you,” she said, motioning for Myers to come out from behind a tree. “Everybody Michael Myers, my friend and often foe. Don’t worry we both had COVID tests and he’s wearing a mask — the greatest ever. We hope you enjoy the next two movies, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. Thank you guys, love you! He’s so quiet!”
While that moment was light and fun, there probably wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle honored Avengers co-star, Chadwick Boseman, with the award for “Hero of the Ages.” It’s still so hard to believe that Boseman is gone. The world was absolutely devastated when he lost his very private battle to cancer last August.
In tribute, Downy Jr. said, “The second you first saw him onscreen or had the opportunity to meet him in person, his energy and intensity was undeniable. There was something different and special about Chadwick Boseman.”
Cheadle revealed that every time Boseman stepped on the set he “inspired and influenced everyone there.” Downey Jr. added that the actor “truly embodied what it meant to be a superhero…his impact as a groundbreaking leading man, as an icon on screen. It won’t be quantified by the box office records he broke but by the legion of fans who will celebrate him for many years to come.”
