20 Best Long Range Walkie Talkies 100 Miles (2022 Updated)

Not too bad. Definitely not a 20 mile range. However, I was able to speak chat a few miles out in an area full of hills and trees. I’m actually pretty impressed by that. For the cost, it’s a good deal.

The battery life seems pretty good so far. Range is reasonable. I like that they have the NOAA setting on them. The seem pretty durable as well. Overall, a good purchase. Very lightweight for a bug out bag or just to carry.

Signal remains very clear until out of range. No choppiness like some other brands. Recommended. I actually bought 4 just in case. These may come il be pretty useful down the road for anyone. Shipping was pretty quick and easy.

Advertised to have a 35 mile range, you must understand that this is quite optimistic. It might be true from the top of a mountain to the flatlands, but any intervening structure will seriously degrade the useful range.

Across suburban terrain which is quite flat but heavily forested and clustered with homes and electrical lines, we find the effective range to be about a mile. Nice units for use in closer quarters, but not 35 miles.

Well made and have a quality feel. If you are over 60, get a magnifying glass to read the instructions!.

These radios are perfect. We live in a rural area where the local electric co-op is not very reliable. Wind, rain or snow, we always seem to have a power outage of some type. The radios have a AM/FM radio so you don’t have to sit in silence, a NOAA weather rasdio to check on the outside storm and of course, the 2 way radio in case I go outside and can talk to ther hopuse.

My wife is disabled and I take the radios out when I mow my 10 acres so she can contact me if anything is going on inside. Could be a lifesaver. I recommend these radios to anyone.

I bought these radios for work on our ranch. We move livestock, need to coordinate movement from vehicles and check in from work site to home periodically. We live about a mile from the main ranch house which is tucked away in a canyon and the quality of sound is great.

I’ve picked up transmissions from a neighbor down the river two miles away with little loss. I’m very satisfied with the quality of the radios. The led flashlight is ok, not super bright but enough to put the animals away at night.

Range if about 10ft max, my gripe about the light is that the power button for the light is right next to the transmit button and if you’re not paying attention you’ll turn on the light instead of talking.

The other gripe is the clip. Very bad compared to Midland. Hard to use and limited opening only allow you to clip it to thin materials and not easily. I make a necklace with 550 cord and wear it around my neck when I’m actively working with my hands or riding horses/atv.

Easier to get to it and I don’t have to spend time getting it on and off or out of a pocket. It’s been in a heavy rain with no problems, and the rechargable batteries and dock work really well. I can easily get 12 hours out of a charge.

Uses rechargable AA’s, so no problem finding replacements if they go out. Overall pretty satisfied, just not a fan of the clip. Would recommend even with that fault.

When some old walkie talkies I have stopped working right, I went to the Columbia, Maryland Best Buy to get a new set. After chatting with one of their salespeople, I settled on these. The walkie talkies have some plusses.

The biggest in my opinion is that you can use regular AA batteries with them though they come with 2 sets of rechargeable AA batteries and a recharger that you can plug into a USB outlet with the cord that is included.

My old set used battery packs that were very expensive. Also, you can use a screw driver or coin to remove the back of the walkie talkies making it very easy to replace the batteries. Another nice feature is the weather channel where you can get the weather forecast for the area.

On their range, it depends on the lay of the land and what might obstruct the signal. From what I’ve seen so far, these should do what I need them to do i. e. enable me to keep in contact with my travel companion.

The walkie talkies do have an encryption feature which is nice but, you must sure both walkie talkies are on the same encrypted channel. Overall, after testing these a good bit, I think their very good walkie talkies.

I look forward to using them on my next cruise.

I got these to replace an old Motorola pair of walkie talkie. Usually Cobra is good brand when coming to electronics (in general) and these was no exception. Setting them up is very similar to other brands (easy and smooth) the devices are more tough and smaller package.

The range is not bad at all. Covering the same as Motorola but with less noises and dead spots. Battery seems to last longer and the voice is clearer. The antenna is slightly longer but that’s not a big deal.

I think this is the longest range before you get into the UHF/VHF radios where license might be required. I took my time before writing this review. I pushed the radios to the limit several time and overall I am happy with their performance.

GTX1000X3VP4 GMRS radios. First time to use mobile radios. Bought them because even if the range was only half the stated value (36 miles) it would be good enough. Got the FCC license and made sure the radio’s settings were correct to TX using Hi power.

Testing in a rural area, in the open, no high buildings, good weather & line of sight without forests the maximum range was a bit over 2 miles. This was disappointing. I was hoping that with the advertised 5 Watts of power I would get at least a 5-mile range.

Only one DC charger is offered with the 3-pack unit, I wish there had been one per radio so you could charge them all individually as you are driving. Within the limited range area, the radios work well, easy to set & use.

Did not use them long enough to test battery life. My first priority for buying these radios was usable range. These radios did not meet my expectations.

Review questions are skewed for advertisers. Hey, want a goid radio that performs. It might require you to use your brain and educate yourself a bit. I’m sick of plug and play mentality dictating wheather a product is good or not.

Try. doesnt break unless your a complete idiot that expects all products are indestructible. Want good range? Do you know anything about line of sight, terrestrial interference, sunspot communication interference? Hey.

Radio is well built, outputs well, good audio performance, very adaptable for alternative power sources, look can get it a little wet and it won’t turn to junk. Yeah you shouldn’t drop it in a lake and expect it to be waterproof like a Rolex sub mariner.

For the money? Heck yes. I’d buy a dozen of these if i needed to. One cell phone at $1200 that can’t survive 1 3ft drop or a rainshower? Oh and you need a network that works everywhere even if a power grid is down? Ha.

Buy these and read the manual and learn.

This is my first Midland radio and am impressed with the build quality and features. I am also impressed with the range and sound quality of this unit. What I am disappointed with is the battery charging.

The initial charge is 24 hours, then 12 hours after. Charging is also a little odd as there is no battery charge indicator, or actually nothing showing the state of the charge. It would very useful if Midland made a separate charger for their rechargeable batteries so spare charged batteries could easily be kept on hand.

They work great for my needs. Use them when Jeepin with friends. Distance is good, but we aren’t that far from each other. no more than a mile at the most in all types of terrain. Never had an issue transmitting or hearing on these radios during our runs.

Charge lasts a long time. Left one on all night and then used it continuously for 5 hours the next day all on the same charge and ran perfect the whole time.

This was a great purchase. In a large house, we need easier contact that is provided by the Smart Phones of today. These radio’s also worked great driving on the highway. Pushing a single button to talk, was much easier than having to dial and speak to the car/phone system and took less time.

Another plus, was not having to look to push the car/phone dial(s). Use of the radios when traveling, enabled each of us to place the radio for easy access, feel the larger button and easily speak with one another, without distraction.

Using the provided radio belt-clip attached (and removable) on the back of each unit, to clip nearby, made use even better. Had purchased another set of walkie-talkies in prior times, from different retailer.

They did not function nearly so well and eventually (in a short few weeks) stopped working. Will probably purchase more of these, because they work so well and we can use them in our home and on our property! Highly Recommend this Purchase!.

I got these Walkie Talkies for snow skiing. I already had 4 Motorola’s but we gained one more ski buddy and I needed one more. Therefore, I have a lot of experience with this and I previously had an older set of Cobra’s but lost one and the other stopped working.

Since these are backups I’m not as concerned as to their overal appeal. The first thing I noticed that I didn’t like is the grip. They do not have a waist like he Motorola’s, therefore, they are thick to hold.

2nd, you have to lock them or risk easily changing the channel etc. 3rd there were some complaints on other reviews that they wouldn’t charge the second time around. Mine wouldn’t either but that is due to where you plug them in with the cable provided.

I used one of my other USB chargers that only charges one thing at a time and it work rightt off. I think you have to plug the duel cable into a none split USB outlet so that you have enough voltage to charge both radio’s at the same time, not sure.

At least there is nothing wrong with the radio, it is just a USB issue. The radios sound and work fine but if your used to Motorola, you won’t like them as much.

Excellent radio and love the more compact size but they are marketed as an “Outfitter” radio. The problem is the ONLY way to charge them is with an AC charger which means you need to plug them into a wall unless you have an inverter in your vehicle.

If you plan on being in the backcountry using them as marketed as an Outfitter you get about a days use then you are out of luck unless you purchase several extra battery packs and change them out and charge them individually before you leave (a ridiculous expectation).

When I called Midland they just said sorry. I purchased two sets for packing trips into the backcountry and they just stay at home for use on other trips where I have the ability to charge them at night.

I purchased a 3rd set (T71VP3) the T77 value pack which charges with a USB/Micro USB cable which allows me to charge them using a portable battery pack. Used the T71’s in the Book Cliff wilderness 30 miles in from any roads/service.

Easily charged them each night and had excellent reception. I can highly recommend the T295/T299 if you just have a day use application and can charge them at night. If not, the T71’s are an outstanding alternative.

Midland needs to develop other charging options for these radios to meet the marketing they are doing as an Outfitter radio – it is VERY misleading and resulted in me having to purchase more radios. One other recommendation for Midland is to make these waterproof.

In the Book Cliffs we were snowed on each day for 4 days and had to take extra precaution to keep them out of the rain which was inconvenient to keep them in a waterproof pocket and yet compunction regularly or hear incoming communications.

I like this radio a lot. I have the following radios: t290, gxt1000, and the micro mobile 15watt. All connect to each other flawlessly. Exceptional clarity. I use these for property management operations in a small town.

The gxt1000 have noticeably better performance. I can get good radio signal through urban environment and trees for about ~2 miles. With the T290’s I can only get good clarity for about 1 mile in urban setting with trees.

Ive switch my entire crew to gxt1000 handhelds and installed the 15watt micromobile stations in the vehicles and loaders. I would recommend the t290 for off-roading, camping, recreational activities, short range communication.

I would recommend the gxt1000 for more serious operations, 2 mile range in high obstruction, and maybe 5 miles unobstructed.

I purchased this set in advance of buying a mobile unit for my Jeep. The Jeep club I am in is interested in moving everyone towards GMRS and we wanted to compare the features and range to our traditional CB’s.

Many of our members are new to off-road and finding something simple that everyone could use was a priority. Our first outing was a simple trail ride (actually more of a spring color tour) that consisted of 60 Jeeps.

We positioned the hand helds at the front and rear of the caravan. As you can imagine 60 jeeps gets spread out quite a bit. The T290’s far out performed the CB’s in both range and clarity. It was a very good example that helped us sell the idea to club members and many have already committed or made purchases from Midland.

The only real drawback I experienced is that you are not supposed to leave the radios on the charging base. It would be nice to be able to leave them on a ‘maintain’ setting. PROS: compact design, pretty easy to use, very good clarity of signal, good ‘feel’ (doesn’t feel cheap), nice range for a hand held device CONS: charger does not maintain the battery, can’t use any other battery source (AA’s) other than the rechargeable that comes with it, menu and displays can be hard to understand if you are not familiar with terminology Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

I have ordered the MXT275 to mount in my JL Wrangler and I think these T290’s will make a great addition on the trail for spotting or just to loan out to those without a GMRS.

I bought 4 of these at the same time. ALL radios have less than 4 hours use- TOTAL power on time. All battery packs have been replaced within the last two months because of their natural life cycle. They suddenly locked up for no reason.

All packs have been charged appropriately, and all settings have retained themselves without pack batteries installed, making me believe the onboard memory batteries are still ok. Given the fact that all four of these locked up within a month of each other- if not on the exact same date and time- I believe this to be a planned obsolescence feature built in to the radios themselves.

I have tried all available low level troubleshooting I found online. Outside of this issue, menu navigation is painful, the open key has a miserably long swell time before transmit, making it difficult to hand these off to a novice user.

They get frustrated and despite repeated reminders, tend to start talking before the 1-1 5 second delay in transmit, making the whole usability far worse than expected. A well oriented hunting or other group may not have this issue, but be aware that there is some learning that should take place.

The included earpieces are next to worthless. A specially bought, better made earpiece or headset works FAR better, especially in VOX mode, which is all but unusable with the stock earpieces. The radios themselves are of appropriate levels of value for the price, at least until this lockup tool place.

Given that the most used unit may have transmitted less than 20 short messages and been powered on for something on the order of four hours total- and that they have been kept dry, 99. 5% of the time used indoors.

this issue is supremely irritating, disappointing, and, it rendered these unusable, completely unacceptable and worthy of sourcing from another company. I am ticked right now.

When I got these I of course charged them. One showed charge complete, the other did not even after 3 days. When the first was done I pulled it off the charger. After a day I moved the other to that side to see if there was a problem with the charger.

It still didn’t finish charging. Then I needed to use them and the one that didn’t finish charging was dead within minutes. I opened it and pulled the rechargeable battery out and reseated it. The other radio worked.

Later I put them both back on charge. The working radio showed full charge immediately even after a day of use. Impressive. The other radio still wouldn’t charge. I put them away until two days ago when I put them both on charge to use yesterday.

Once again one didn’t charge but the other did. I took the good radio to use but when I turned it on it showed low battery then shut down. I opened it up to use some AA batteries and found that it not only already had AA batteries but they had exploded because they weren’t rechargeable.

This was the first time I opened this radio so this supposedly new unit shipped to me with a bad rechargeable battery in one and standard AA batteries in the other. Because I hadn’t needed the radios for months I can no longer return them.

Not happy.

I’m no radio expert but these fit my need perfectly. My son and I ride touring motorcycles and were looking for good communications that were practical. The expensive bluetooth units can be buggy and not always pair with other riders.

These won’t pair with them either but if everyone used a GMRS radio then motorcycle coms would be much easier. Initial test range was 2. 8 miles on high setting before it got too hard to understand. We don’t plan to ever be that far apart while riding.

They were paired with the AVPH2 helmet headsets, bought separately. We have full face helmets. I only wish they were rechargeable with a usb port. Space is limited on motorcycles. We can also use these radios for coms on family caravans.

I have been super impressed with the clarity and range of the radios. When I received them, I unboxed them immediately and threw them on the charger. I was happy that I was able to charge both of the radios at the same time.

Alternatively, I could have put in AAA batteries, but I would rather use the rechargeable ones that it comes with. After the charge, I wanted to give them a test. I sent one of my kids on their scooter to the local school (about 2 miles in distance) and could mostly hear him with clarity when on a hi power setting.

This was in a city where there are no tall buildings, but there are still cell towers and other things that could disrupt the signal. A couple of my other kids were using the X-TALKER T20X4, but only got about.

5 mile before their voices were a bit crackly coming through. The product is well made and seems to be very durable. The battery charge has lasted for quite a bit of time. My kids have been using them to play across the neighborhood and we haven’t had to charge them yet.

The belt buckle is convenient to have so you don’t have to carry in your hand and I like that you don’t have to remove it for charging. Pros: – Easy to use – Instructions don’t require an advanced degree in linguistics – Durable – Great Range – Great voice clarity – Hi/Lo range Cons: – No Light up Display / not backlit for night time – Would like to have sub channels like some other devices I have used have.

3 hour roadtrip and one hour into the trip both headsets are chirping low battery. This is the first use. Both headsets charged for 14 hours prior to first use. That first hour wasn’t even constant chat and we used low output because the cars we following each other.

2nd use: same thing happened. Headsets charged for 12 hours prior to use. After an hour we used in car chargers to attempt to charge them while driving but failed. Also, while charging you can only listen, you need to unplug to respond.

Extremely annoying. Past the 30 return so I guess it’s a warranty claim now. I Do NOT recommend.

Great value with this option. I have not had a chance to test the full range but works great for around the house. Battery life can be short when you have Bluetooth and things turned on but it’s great that you can plug in to recharge.

Lots of user settings, vibrate only, pair to phone via Bluetooth, weather alerts, several alert tones to choose from. The belt clip is a little flimsy, I would rely on it if hiking or hunting. Good looking product design.

The T800 Radio is an typical FRS/GMRS radio. With the added feature of being able to send text messages whens synced to your phone. Don’t expect any better range than any other GMRS radio. The texting range is even shorter.

If you camp where there is no Phone signal these are great for sending messages and locations. If you have line of sight these work pretty good.

I wanted a pair of walkie talkies that I could use around the house and with the grand kids as well. I chose Midland because I was very satisfied with my HH54 weather radio, which I’ve had for about 6 years.

I found that like the weather radio, the walkie talkies work very well with the permanently attached smaller antennas. (Type accepted) Right out of the box I noticed how well the T71’s received other stations in the local area that I had previously heard on my Alinco handheld.

There was no “intermod” interference on any channels. I tried them with my wife and they went through the high rise & out over a mile or so, with audio that was loud & clear on low power channel 8. Note that on channels 8 – 14 there seems to be less interference from more powerful stations in the area due to the mandatory low power settings.

The 1 amp rechargeable batteries are a plus. If you need more power you’ve got 2 watts that you didn’t have under the old FRS rules. High power channels are 1-7 and 15-22 but you may be sharing with GMRS stations in your area.

In that case you can use the private codes that are available with this series. I did turn off the “roger beep” and BP key tones because they were annoying. The weather radio feature can come in handy to get the latest up to the moment info from NOAA weather.

The weather radio alerts & warnings are better than the emergency alerts you get on the cell phone, in my opinion. The radio does not however, support the use of S. A. M. E or County codes, so you will have to listen carefully to the information from NOAA to see if it actually applies to your local area or not because NOAA weather radio is a region wide broadcast.

One thing the instruction book didn’t cover or I didn’t notice were the extra channels, 23-36. These are just repeats from the original 22 with a simplification of the quiet codes. Also, these radios cannot access any repeaters that you will hear on some of the upper channels.

And now on to Customer Service. There was a battery issue. One of the packs would go dead prematurely so I contacted Midland and replacement batteries are on the way. All in all a good value for the money and no license is required: Also there is no “skip” interference on UHF like the kind you get on CB radio plus the FM modulation is clean and quiet.

I can honestly tell you that these radios will get a lot of use in our family. Dan.

Don’t buy these to use with a GMRS repeater. These are decent radios if you want just a quick fix for something at the house or on the farm but if you plan on going hiking with these anywhere near a GMRS repeater they will not work.

I was hoping that the additional channels were used for repeater offsets but I was wrong. They’re simply standard channels with privacy code offsets. Seeing how you can set privacy codes on every other channel it seems sort of pointless to do this unless you want to make it seem like there are actually more channels than what’s actually available.

FRS radios operate on 22 different, standard frequencies, GMRS operates on 8 additional frequencies for repeater purposes as well as allowing you to transmit at higher powers with the propper FCC license.

While the packaging and labeling say “GMRS” it is misleading because you’re only functioning on FRS. If you go out and buy a second set of GMRS radios that aren’t midland’s preset channels you’re going to have a bad time and these will only be able to communicate with them in simplex on the first 22 channels.

We bought these walkie talkies in 2021 and used them everyday on our farm until this winter 2022. My husband lost his walkie talkie somewhere on our property in the beginning of our winter as we had a huge snow storm.

We had been trying to find another one but didn’t have any luck as we are in Canada. Our snow has been melting these last 2 weeks and my husband found our missing walking talkie. I didn’t think it would be any good as it was out all winter long with temps in the -30’s C.

After we dried the walking talkie and charged it up. It still works great. We couldn’t believe it. What an awesome product. Thank you for making a great product that lasts.

I use these at work. I’m often underground in a concrete vault while trying to talk to someone in a basement. Most 2 way radios I have used are terrible in this scenario. You have to repeat yourself 4 or 5 times and try to hear the other person through a lot of static or interference( if it’s even possible sometimes).

Not with these! Very impressed with the clarity!! I have not done an extremely long distance yet but hands down, these blow away the other 3 brands (Motorola, Cobra, Uniden ) I have tried! Also have not tested the waterproof yet due to the nice clips.

When I ( my coworkers)break these, I will definitely buy them again!!.

I bought the 3 pack last month so we could keep in touch while out working or hunting on our property. Easy to use, good reception, and there have not been any issues when the radios have gotten wet.

My ony complaint is with the included headsets. They do not fit well, are uncomfortable, and fall off during physical activities. The headsets are why 4 stars instead of 5.

My wife and I needed a reliable way to communicate when I am out hiking and after some research we decided on the Midland GXT1000VP4 Two-Way Walkie-Talkie. With its 50 Channels and 36-mile range, the Midland GXT1000VP4 has worked wonderfully in the month since it arrived.

So far, we have yet to exceed this unit’s range even in deep wooded areas and the 142 privacy codes keep our communications both private and without outside interference. Also, between the use of the Hands-Free Transmission via VOX (Voice-Operated Transmission), the accompanying Headset with microphone, the Whisper Function (which enables the user to transmit high-level sounds even when whispering) and the Silent Operation Mode (wherein all beeps and tones are disabled), I can observe wildlife close-up without being noticed.

I do heartily recommend The Midland GXT1000VP4 36-Mile 50-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Walkie-Talkie with great enthusiasm.

I have used these Midland GMRS radios for years. They are relatively easy to operate, and they have many features. I really like the NOAA weather band and the capability to use an ear bud (for silent operation).

I use them during hunting season each fall. The radio is small enough to fit in my shirt pocket. However, they seem to last only about two seasons (around 30 days of total use). When they fail, the first problem that I see is that the radio fails to transmit.

It can receive fine, but cannot transmit. Even with this limitation, these Midland radios are as good or better than other similar radios. Given their cost, they are still a very good product.

This has 5 watts of power which is the maximum legally allowable. Mine came without rechargeable batteries so I use AA batteries. At maximum power it goes through those batteries fast, but at lower power it’s acceptable.

The range is nowhere near advertised in normal conditions but on a hike or ski hill, it’s okay. It’s easy to use – a good first radio. I didn’t pay much for mine so for me, it was a bargain. However, I prefer the Baofeng radios which I subsequently bought.

These are great, true FRS-band radios with sufficient line-of-sight range for backyards and around the house. They’re better than toys, but only slightly. Some things to be aware of: 1. They are tiny.

A good size for my pre-schooler but way too small for comfortable adult usage. 2. They will pick up other traffic on the public channels. This can be disconcerting if left on and suddenly at midnight you’re hearing them squawk or hear voices coming through when you know the kiddos are fast asleep.

Keep that in mind and have fun!.

Bought it as a gift for friends’ kids. They like it and it works good within sight distance. Don’t think it will work more than 1 mile with just slightly fluctuation on topography.

Average walkie talkies. It does what it suppose to. Cant say or complain much. got for my kids and honestly a few months in they forgot all about it. but worked with no issues

I bought 2 x 3-packs of these for use of our school reopening because our PA/intercom system did not work. I bought them on a Friday night before a Monday morning urgent need for communication, and I bought the last 2 packs in the store.

One of the walkie-talkies did not work at all, but, because we desperately needed as many as we could get for the first day of school, I did not return the package of 3 so that we could use the other 2.

Not all worked well initially – some did not turn on and charge right away – but I was able to get all but 1 to work. The rest have been working for the past few weeks, but the push buttons are not consistently and easily responsive to talking and turning on/off, and it sometimes requires a few tries.

Decent 2-way radios, i can get a little over a mile in dense housing/populated areas (within rural city). Slight elevation changes and cant get it to 2 miles. Kinda disappointing on the advertised distance, yet i know these conditions for maximum range are open fields, over water, etc.

I gave these a 3 out of 5 due to cost ($50), came with 3 (another plus) and rechargable batteries with a micro usb cable to charge 2 at once. We use this just to keep track of the kids around the neighborhood and it does fine just with that.

Would i solely rely on these for a primary way communication, maybe/maybe not. They do what they are intended to do. I would buy these again no questions asked. Good for a solid 1-1. 25 miles range.

I bought these for a specific purpose. my daughter was going camping about 1 1/2 miles from our house, where cell phone service is non-existent, and we thought the 2-way radios would be a good solution.

As it turned out, we should have read more reviews before making the purchase. We obviously had way too many non-optimum conditions, because they didn’t work for what we wanted them for. They probably are very good radios under optimum conditions.

I was skeptical about buying these radios since some of the reviews said they only reached a mile or 2. I took them on one of the biggest cruise ships made and had no trouble talking to my wife anywhere on the ship.

I also talked to her while she was on the ship in Cozumel and I was in Playa Del Carmen which is about 14 miles away. Yes it was over open water with no obstacles, but that is still pretty good. A little static but I could hear every word without her having to repeat anything.

I would recommend these. Only problem was that I had to have the factory send me two rechargeable battery packs because the ones that came with it wouldn’t charge. They sent them to me for free without having to send them a receipt.

Good VOX performance! For those who wants to use rechargeable batteries: plz, pay attention that rechargeable batteries of a large capacity (e. g. I’m using 2000mAh), one that goes into an upper left nest is impossible to take out.

You’ll have to disassemble the radio. That is probably because of a bit larger battery size. If using regular AA size batteries everything is ok.

Very good radio. I tried the smaller models, but did not like. This is my second set of this model. It is the perfect radio for around the house, and rural mail boxes. Also still have the first set, and they are in great condition.

Have had the over 6 years. I took one to town once, I live in hilly countryside. It cover to about 12 miles. A very good radio; Love Them!!.

Big fun for the kids. We bought 4 so that our daughters could share them with the neighborhood kids and have some “old fashioned” fun. It gets them off of the computer for a little bit every day so I think they were well worth it.

Every once in a while there is cross traffic and of course you can’t control what your kids will hear but for the most part, good fun.

Good walk is talkies. I bought them for my daughters and they use them often to play. There’s interference here and there, you can hear people talking. Good distance and not staticky. They look just like the picture.

They don’t feel toyish, good quality.

This are small and very good. We have take them to parks forest and even on cities. 2 channels is all you need to communicate. Not bad for the price. I was surprise. Good stuff.

Want a radio you can hand to anybody and they don’t have to mess with the extra features? Get this one. Single power output level – high – and nothing extraneous to get in the way. For an unlicensed FRS radio, these have the longest range you can purchase and always operate at maximum range.

Dont let everyone description fool you!!! These only have a 2 mile max range in normal conditions! The 35 mile is claimed from a mountain top to a valley floor. Nobody shows a picture of the box for this reason! Its deception.

I have a $20 set of motoralas that work just as good as these and the flashlight they mention is an absolute joke! Its half as bright as a cell phone light. I don’t understand the high price for a cheap set of walkies??? I assumed for the price there would be some great features! So let down.

Pros: Good transmission and reception. Easy to use and good positioning of function buttons. Battery life is good too. Cons: Clip design could be improved. It was stiff with little room for expansion.

Overall: Would recommend.

third set in ten years. Works beautifully! We use them every day when we go shopping in the “big” stores to find each other without going crazy! Also great for talking to each other from the shed to the house.

The first things that go, is the imprint on the buttons. Then, there is a gradual decrease in power requiring more batteries more often. When new, and for a long time after, batteries last awhile. I would definitely get another set to keep on hand.

You can set your own frequencies for more privacy We have tried others, but this brand works the best for us. I highly recommend them!.

They have a perfect color for hiking in the mountains, because if for some reason we drop it or forget it, it is easy to find. The maximum range remains to be tested. Thanks for everything.

Unfortunately, there is a battery that does not charge well. I put all four batteries to charge. Three of them charged in more or less 8 hours. Unfortunately, the fourth does not seem to charge. I put it back on charge this morning and it has been on the charger for 3 hours now, but the charge has not been completed.

The quality of this product is not great. I had to return them to the store because the button on one stop working. The return policy for Cobra is not threat great either. They will only replace the item with another one of their horrible items instead of giving a refund.

The range on the radios are not accurate. They’re only good for about 50 yards. I would not rely on this product for hiking or any wilderness adventures.

Range is deceiving. I have not purchased the radios but sell radio communications equipment. The 28 mile range advertised should have an *If one person is on top of a mountain and the other person is in the valley below with a clear line of sight.

The radios are most likely 1 or 2 Watts max which will give varying ranges depending on what is in between the two radios and if there is any interference on the frequency being used. Talking from car to car on the highway or across the yard to around / in the house is the most suitable use.

Please do not purchase expecting 28, 10, or even 5 miles in most situations. I am sure they are fine for what they were made for, just don’t want anyone falling for the pipe dream of a 28 mile range.

So I’ve owned and used these radios for about a month now and have tried out most all of the features and found them very user friendly. The first thing most people want to know about is the range. First of all, ALL radios sold have exaggerated claims on their maximum range, period! In a perfect setting maybe they will work for 28 miles but you will NEVER be in a perfect setting.

I used them in a huge factory building with lots of walls and machines in the way and they worked without any issues and have a nice loud volume too. We used them for 8 hours solid at a time and the battery life was barley down to 3/4.

They could easily be used for several days without charging. Now for outside use. My nephew and I tested them in a typical urban neighborhood for a little over a mile before they started to break up a little in transmission.

This was with many, many houses and trees in between us. Second test was in nearly perfect line of sight. Again over nearly a mile and 1/4 the sound was good and just starting to break up a bit. We also tried them while out mountain biking in the woods with elevation changes near 200 feet and had no problem talking in a 200 acre riding area.

For what I paid for these I am very happy with them. They have decent features and work like they should. If you need more range then use your cell phone, but for most recreational uses I have encountered they work great and have exceptional battery life.

If I had 1 complaint it would be that the charger needs to be plugged into a powered USB port to charge. I rarely have my computers on for more than an hour or 2 at a time so to charge I found a cheap wall plug in USB power supply that cost like $5 to use as a standalone charger.
