An impact wrench is a power tool that is used to remove or install lug nuts on a vehicle’s wheels. It is a powerful tool that can quickly loosen or tighten the lug nuts, making it easier to change a tire.
The 20V Atomic 3/8″ Impact Wrench delivers up to 300 ft-lbs max of fastening torque and a lightweight, ergonomic design. This tool also features Precision Wrench Control, which helps to prevent overtightening in forward and fastener run-off in reverse.
This Atomic Impact Wrench is ideal for wide variety of construction and automotive applications.
This impact driver is very powerful. I have 1/2″ pneumatic impacts that this 3/8″ battery power puts to shame. This tool will remove lug nuts with ease, even with a small 2 ah battery it will remove all four wheels with plenty of battery to spare.
It has four different modes that handle anything. Removing lug nuts I just used the bolt and nut mode. This mode also has a useful feature that when backing off nuts it slows the RPM down once the nut is loose which is helpful in the fact that you can back off nuts and have more control not to drop the nuts.
I used this to drive 8″ long 5/8″ lag bolts into 4×8 timber and it drove them without breaking a sweat all the way in. I am very impressed and may not need to use my 1/2″ battery powered Dewalt impact it is that good.
Taking off the lug nuts, it did it just as easy as the 1/2″ Dewalt did and its much lighter. I highly recommend this tool to anyone. I have also used it in some tight places where my larger DeWalt was to big to fit, removing rear axle on an F 150.
It removed all the hardware without a sweat and it was less tiring than using the much heavier 1/2″ drive.
Bought this at the beginning of April to add to my battery tools at work (automotive). I use the red brand for most of my work but some tight spaces require a smaller profile impact. This one has the best torque ratings for its class so I was especially happy to have it in my arsenal.
It gets much less use than my daily impact so I was very disappointed when barely 2 weeks in, the impact failed. I went to use it and when I squeezed the trigger, nothing happened. No forward or reverse.
Tried the direction switch a few times but nothing. The LEDs and setting display both worked however the trigger did not. I have captured the problem on video, however, I can only post videos from YouTube, what’s with that ?? I really want this impact to be better and am hoping it’s just a bad unit and not something to expect from this tool.
I will get it exchanged tomorrow and hope the next one lasts better than this one did.
I have had this 1/2” impact for a few months now using it in new construction setting lag bolts and anchor bolts as well around the garage. the impact has a selection of setting depending on the task.
I have found I pretty much just keep it on the driving/lag setting for most uses. For my application I didn’t find the bolt setting to be useful as it kept making me think the impact was broken. It would rotate and stop and rotate and stop.
not really sure of the true function. However on the lag setting I found it useful. I do feel it is slightly under powered. Being a 1/2” the torque just isn’t really enough to break lug nuts on a tire, but is enough to set lag screws and anchor bolts which is really what it is designed for.
So if your going to get this compact drill for auto mechanic work, I wouldn’t recommend. For construction it works fine. I do find that I tend to carry my standard impact with 1:4” and 1/2” adapters and find that as more my go to than this.
It is nice to have. I would say if your a deck contractor it’s a perfect tool.
Milwaukee’s M18 Fuel 1/2″ Mid-Torque Impact Wrench w/ Friction Ring delivers the best power to weight ratio, most access in tight spaces, and faster removal speed. It provides 650 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque and only weighs 5.
1 lbs, making it extremely versatile, capable of performing a wide variety of applications. Its Powerstate Brushless Motor generates the power needed to quickly perform many tasks, such as removing large bolts or lug nuts.
This Milwaukee 1/2″ Impact Wrench is the most compact in its class, giving you access to stubborn fasteners in spaces where larger impact wrenches can t fit without needing to disassemble components to reach bolts.
Tri-LEDs surround the anvil to deliver brighter light with fewer shadows. 4-Mode Drive Control offers greater precision with a range of pre-set RPM and IPM levels, selectable from a single button on the tool.
By selecting Mode 4, Auto Shut Off control applies no more than 35 ft-lbs of torque for hand-tight fastening applications to prevent overtightening. Mode 4 also features Bolt Removal Control that delivers you full torque output, then decreases RPMs once the bolt is loosened to prevent fastener drops.
Redlink Plus Intelligence ensures maximum performance, protecting the tool against overloads, over-heating, and over-discharge. The M18 Powerstate battery pack (not included) fits M18 tools, delivering more work per charge and more work over the life of the pack.
Still the best and most reliable battery powered Mid-Torque impact on the market. I’d been wanting this particular mid torque for a while but waited for a deal. Milwaukee tools are great but they aren’t the cheapest.
I appreciate that as I know you get what you pay for. At this time some impacts are starting to catch up in terms of Ft-Lbs of torque however looking at the release date of this tool and practicality I don’t believe there much I can’t do unless you’re working on ships or 18 Wheelers consistently.
Even if other companies are starting to put out stronger impacts I trust Milwaukee and this product. I’ve used the warranty and still amazed at their ability to diagnose an issue and have your tool back in your hands fixed or replayed in a week.
That puts Milwaukee at the top in terms of their warranty and without even having to register your device you’re still covered. Any company that pays attention to detail in such a way should be trusted to handle the small things.
As for use if you pair this with the 6AH High Output Battery or the 8AH you’ve essentially moved into High Torque teritority. Like I said there’s not much this tool can’t do. For most taking off lug nuts and small engine parts won’t even heat this tool up.
Enjoy! Personally I can’t wait for the next release. Until then this is my go to mid torque impact.
This EARTHQUAKE XT professional grade air wrench handles the toughest jobs with no sweat. The composite impact wrench delivers a pounding 1190 ft. lbs. of bolt breakaway torque. The lightweight composite handle reduces strain.
So I bought this in Hope’s it would remove my front axle nut on my car. I used a battery powered impact gun, didnt work. Used a 25″ 1/2″ breaker bar, literally broke it! So said its pneumatic time! Got it setup and it took a few goes but it literally ripped the axle nut off very fast.
This is a very powerful impact wrench so be careful when tightening lug nuts with it. It’s small, lightweight, very comfortable and has 3 speed settings for forward and 1 for reverse. Has nice rubber molding around the body to protect it when set on the ground.
All in all I’m very happy with my purchase. Especially I got it on spring sale for $99. If you need a really strong impact this is for you! Great job on this Harbor Freight!.
I’m a professional diesel mechanic and I use impact wrenches every day. I’ve used the expensive Snap-On, Matco, MAC impact wrenches and I really can’t tell the difference between the torque and durability they have on a much cheaper Earthquake.
I own one of these Composite Earthquake Impact wrenches and I like it. It’s light weight and has excellent torque. I had an older 1/2” Earthquake impact wrench that actually removed bolts that a Snap-On 1/2” impact wrench couldn’t even turn.
I bought this a month ago and have used it pretty extensively. I work for a John Deere dealership and setup large tractors for new sales. The torque specs on wheel bolts is 450 ft pds. so I was skeptical this gun could hold up under those demands.
I have done 2 tractors so far both front and rear wheels (10 lug nuts per axle) so 40 lug nuts plus dual front and rear wheels so 80 lug nuts per tractor. So far it’s exceeded my expectations. I was using a Milwaukee 3/4” drive battery powered impact (which is rated at 1500 ft pds.
of torque) before buying this gun on sale for $119! I have been very impressed but I have started noticing that the forward/ reverse selector will bounce into neutral at times and have to keep finger pressure on it while using gun.
I plan to take it back and swap out for another soon. I did buy the extended warranty as I knew this was going to get a lot of use.
Makita’s large hammer creates more impacts for greater impact power. With a maximum torque rating of 738 ft. /lbs. , this unit outperforms the competition hands down. Less vibration results in a longer tool life and the impact resistant aluminum gear case with rubber bumpers adds protection and increased durability.
Side handle rotates 360 degrees for operator convenience while the ergonomically designed grip offers greater control and comfort. Rocker type forward and reverse switch allows efficient one-handed operation and the conveniently located sky hook allows continuous use as well as convenient storage.
Very happy with this gun. I am normally a DeWalt corded tool guy. I chose this one because of the fact that the bolts that hold the plastic to the metal part of the body are facing the opposite direction compared to other manufactures.
This way the threads are in metal verse plastic. I had heard that screws coming loose and stripping threads ended the life of other such guns. I plan to have this thing forever, so when for the most robust one I could get.
It is big and heavy, but not bigger and heavier than it’s competitors. The detent pin anvil will hold the socket on well and never let go. This also means that you will need a tool to push it down to release the socket.
As long as you don’t line up the hole in the socket with the pin, it will come off easily when you want and stay on when you want it to. It is difficult to put the socket on though having to specifically depress the pin with your finger.
I found that if I start it at an angle I can pop the socket on without using my finger to depress the pin. I wish there was a hog ring option like DeWalt offers. Besides the hard to use pin, very happy with the purchase.
I don’t use it often, so will deal with the pin slowing me down a little.
bought this primarily to do lugs nuts on my and my friends cars, fully satisfied with it. Much more convenient than setting up my air tools when working in the parking lot at work or my driveway. I haven’t had any problems breaking any lugs off, just hit it a little longer if its stubborn, toughest was my ’02 ford explorer on my first rotation after a local garage put them on (probably too tightly).
Only reason for 4 stars is no option for a hog ring. The detent pin makes swapping sockets super annoying. Overall very satisfied, I went with the makita over the dewalt even with the lower tq rating because according to other reviews it seems the dewalt doesn’t make its full torque anyway.
And I like that the gearcase motor attachment seems more robust than ALL the other models (I suspect they are all the same mold and plastic, which wouldn’t make the dewalt any more resilient than the harbor freight model).
I’ve used it regularly for a year now, and I’m confident it will last at least 10.
Please note!! If your into “no Chinese” made stuff “electric” is the way to go. If you want the quality Makita is known for, make sure its from Japan. I would have bought battery power if it weren’t made in China.
I know quality controls and all of that are probably there too. But, I can hardly find “Made in USA. ” So i am real picky. Albeit, most electric tools are more power anyway. The Impact driver is rated at 260 fpt @ only 3.
5 amps. I didn’t see one battery impact driver for that same price at this rating, its just not there. Good Job Makita. P. S. Home Essentials Direct makes it easy to review items and pick what you want.
I love the site because they never drop ship. If an item isn’t in stock they will tell you before checkout. Phillip in AZ.
For nuts and bolts, the Dewalt 20V MAX Lithium-Ion 1/2″ Impact Wrench (Tool Only) offers a secure detent pin fitting that can be relied upon to hold, even when used over your head, as mechanics may need to.
Made for professionals and hobbyists alike, for auto repairs and other do-it-yourself jobs, the Dewalt cordless impact wrench makes it easier to drive and remove fasteners from a variety of materials, whether wood, metal or concrete.
The lightweight and compact design means that even the tightest spots are reachable, and at a weight of 3. 4 pounds, it is easy to hold all day without feeling too heavy. At only 5. 7-inches long, the size will not impede progress in small spaces, and the 1/2″ impact wrench fits comfortably in your hand.
The max torque is 150 foot-pounds, and it can reach 2,700 impact per minute, giving you the power to finish the job properly. Three bright LED lights, with a 20-second delay after trigger use, help keep shadows away from the impact wrench tool and let you see clearly as you work.
I bought this tool on sale and for the price I paid I am happy with it. I did not have a cordless impact before and find it very useful. This model does not have great power. It does struggle with some vehicle lug nuts.
However, I was surprised that it was able to loosen all the nuts and bolts on my 25 year old rusty truck when rebuilding the front end on one amp hour batteries. The tool is a good size and fits in small spaces but new offerings from the competitors and even Dewalt offer much more power for only a little bit more money.
As a journeyman lineman I have used a small impact professionally for over a decade. The previous impact driver I used was a 20v dewalt 1/4″ hex that still works after 10 years of abuse. I wanted an upgrade because the old driver is about due for another set of brushes.
I chose this impact for the 1/2″ hog ring anvil as apposed to using adapters for 1/2″ sockets as before, btw dewalt brand 1/4″ hex to 1/2″ square adapters last much longer than their counterparts. I have another larger impact with a detent pin, the hog ring is far superior, easy to change sockets without worry of the coming off unexpectedly.
Fit and finish of the “reconditioned” impact is a 10, absolutely no blemishes and works flawlessly. Kit came with gun, 2 4ah batteries, charger, and a nice case. I was apprehensive about a refurbished product, but was unable to buy new because all retailers were out of stock at the time.
All I can say is buying new vs this kit from cpo would have been like burning money, this is new condition and quality. The batteries are a year old but not sure what they would be in a “new” kit. So far the batteries have held up excellent in the hot-cold environment I’ve subjected them to.
I have not tested this for high torque, most fasteners I use it on are less than 60 ft lbs and I have a larger dewalt brushless impact with 7/16″ chuck that I use for large/high torque hardware and drilling utility poles.
Overall an excellent product from dewalt at a great price from cpo.
My husband loves this. His craftsman that he had for about 12 years bit the dust in the middle our chicken coop build. I remembered getting an email from tractor supply a few hours earlier saying that DeWalt tools were on sale.
I pulled up the email, placed my order and picked up his new tools the next day. I think he’s pretty impressed with the drill and driver. It’s speeding along this project.
The Street Legal looks, feels, and sounds like the original Thunder Gun you saw at the race track! 625 ft. -lbs. of maximum torque in reverse mode. 1250 blows per minute in reverse mode. 1100 blows per minute in forward mode.
10,000 rpm free speed. Faster than any other commercial IR 1/2″ drive impact. Black powder coated handle and housing with black steel hammer case and distinctive yellow protective boot. As close as you can get to the real thing – looks, feels, sounds like the ThunderGun racing tool.
I’m a professional. I take apart and put together electric motors for a living. From hydroelectric projects and train engines down to 1h. p. jobs. This air wrench is worth its weight in gold to me. You know what they say.
Rugged, dependable, lightweight these are the type word’s that describe this impact wrench. The first time I tried this wrench out it was on a semi truck. The power of it is amazing. Whenever I do a job that requires breaking of rusted nut’s and bolt’s my wrench stands tough and help’s me get the job done quickly and efficently.
I would strongly recommend this wrench to anyone who does mechanic work. Wether it’s just a hobby or their everyday jod. My wrench has stood it’s test three years old still as strong as it was the day I got it.
So for everyone out there that read’s this review you can’t go wrong with the Thundergun.
After replacing a cheap impact gun my productivity rose by about 75%, no joke! This thing has removed everything I’ve been able to throw at it. I’m using it in conjuction with an 80 gallon, 2-stage IR compressor putting out 5hp and [email protected]
Highly recommend this impact wrench if you’re interested in getting work done! The only things I’m not really a fan of is the front grip is an adhesive strip of sandpaper type stuff and mine is starting to peel off after about 2-months of medium use.
Also the directional switch valve is fairly difficult to switch over, but I guess that could also keep you from accidentally swapping directions. At the end of the day I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase and Northern offered this product at a great price and was very prompt on processing my order.
This rugged electric impact wrench delivers plenty of power without the need for a compressor. Built with a cast aluminum nose for durability the lightweight, high impact housing on this electric impact wrench means less user fatigue.
This electric impact wrench has a rocker switch for one hand forward/reverse toggle.
The yellow rocker switch lever is poorly designed. It has a hole that fits over the switch stem. My step-son’s would not go “forward” any more – only “reverse”. I disassemble the switch. Very simple switch mechanism.
Cleaded up the 8 contact points (4 on each end) with sand paper & a file. Lubed the internal nylon spring-loaded rockers with silicone grease, reassembled the switch, reinstalled switch, reassembled the tool.
Still no “forward” – “reverse” only. I then took a real close look at the yellow switch lever itself and the black switch shroud (the black plastic face of the front of the handle/housing). The black shroud that holds the yellow switch disallowed the yellow switch from moving the full range it needed to in either forward or reverse.
I filed off some of the black plastic at the ends of the hole where the yellow lever sits in the black housing. This helped a little. Still no “forward”. I looked at the red part of the housing where the yellow switch lever sits over the switch stem and moved it down as if turning the tool on into the forward direction.
(This was without the black plastic in place – only the yellow switch lever over the switch stem) Aha! The yellow switch lever hits the red housing just under where the switch is embedded in a red plastic frame.
I filed off about 3mm of the bottom end of the yellow switch lever and – yay! – that did it. The tool will now go into “reverse” and “forward” with no problem. I think what happens over time, and it probably doesn’t take a long time or many uses, the hole in the yellow lever that fits over the switch stem widens out and creates a sloppier fit over the switch stem, sort of like “run-out”.
The hole simply gets bigger and yellow switch lever is no longer snug in the hole. When this occurs, the yellow lever needs to move farther in both reverse and forward to engage the switch. By modifying (enlarging the hole ends) on the black handle hole where the yellow switch lever rides and filing off the bottom of the yellow switch lever where it comes into contact with the red plastic switch frame, this allows movement farther than it could before and will repair what appears to be a faulty switch.
I should have taken photos, but I’m not going to take it apart again unless someone begs me! Thanks!.
finally bought something other than small power tools that meets up to what is advertised! while doing some auto repairs the bolts we had to remove were in a spot where we couldn’t get to them and apply enough leverage to break torque.
we decided thru desperation to try this tool out after still smarting from the POS 110 psi pancake compressor junk purchased a month ago. am happy to report this impact did easily break loose the lower control arm mounting bolts on son’s 2000 camry.
would guess they were at least torqued to 85+ ft. lbs. this gun torn right thru them! at purchase was wondering if the low amperage rate would be a factor but it didn’t seem a problem remember the next more expensive gun was like 8.
2 amps. at 71 years old and this gun now helps to rotate wheels easier and to break bolts that normally need 4′ breaker bar. finally happy that my back side didn’t pucker from purchase. the gun’s a little big and clumsy but worth dealing with it when a good quality Milwaukee battery impact is $250 and up! harbor freight finally came thru.
I was forced to buy this when I tried to replace my struts in the driveway. I had to drive an hour and spend $50 that I didn’t have, but it is one of the best purchases I ever made. Like all Chicago electric tools, it feels cheap, and I made certain of the return policy before checkout.
I fully expected that a cheap tool with IMPACT in its name might rattle apart in the first use. However, it effortlessly removed the stuck bolts and reduced my work Time immensely. The only issue I have is the size.
Since this tool is electric and doesn’t use space saving brushless technology, it is pretty huge. As a result, there were areas where it would just barely fit on my 08 Impala, and I am certain that there are vehicles that it would never work on for this reason.
For a professional mechanic, this is probably one of the worst impact wrenches on the planet, but if you’re only hauling it out to do the occasional driveway car repair or switch out your snow tires, then this thing is aces.
This 20V MAX* 1/2″ Cordless Impact Wrench with Hog Ring Anvil (DCF911B) was built for quick loosening and tightening of bolts, lug nuts, and other fasteners. The Impact Wrench delivers 250 ft-lbs of fastening torque and 400 ft-lbs of breakaway torque in a lightweight body suited for a range of applications in confined, difficult-to-access workspaces.
Use the integrated LED in low-light spots for enhanced visibility as you work. Battery and charger not included.
I’ve been using dewalt tools longer than I’d like to admit cause I’m a Milwaukee fan. However Dewalt are cheaper and easier to access in my area. And for the money Dewalt is great. However more often than not I purchase a Dewlat tool that doenst have an included belt hook.
Lowes which sells the dewalt line I purchase from dosent stock them either. I’m convinced it’s to usher the buyer into a holter style tool holder which are expensive and not as universal as the clip.
Excellent power to weight and size ratio. For really big jobs a high torque may be necessary, but for most non-professionals this is enough. The professional tradesmen already know that they want both a mid and high torque.
The mid to save wear and tear on their body. They use the high torque only when necessary.
I’ve had this impact wrench a few months now amd I still can’t believe how crazy powerful it is. I’m glad it has the precision wrench option or I’d def have to feather it’s trigger to keep from stripping slinging fasteners etc.
love it only thing I wish was Where the battery connect to tool was as compact as the head of the tool other than that five stars for this tool.
The compact, lightweight design of this 20V 3/8in. impact wrench allows it to fit into tight spaces and be used for a variety of applications. This feature-packed tool operates at 130 ft-lbs. max torque, 2700 IPM and 2300 RPM no-load speed.
First of all I should say I love Dewalt 20v tools and have many of them. I bought this 883 for it’s compact size and CLAIMED 130ft lbs torque spec that should be plenty for simple lug nuts and such around the vehicle.
I run it with fresh 5Ah 20v batteries, and I can’t get any lugs at 100ft lbs to break. I tried them at 80 and I can’t even get them to break. In fact every bolt I have tried them on, save for anything under 50 ft lbs requires manual breaking.
So now what I find this useful for is to snug up lugs to what seems to be about 75-80ft lbs max, and then finish off with a torque wrench. Honestly I regret buying this and wish I had gone with the bigger model, which I hear is does in fact work at the claimed torque levels.
Ended up purchasing this tool for work as i am a Mechanic by trade. I own other Dewalt products so the batteries i already knew are compatible so just buying the impact was a smart investment instead of having to buy the entire set.
If you are planing on buying this there is NO batteries and do not have other 20V batteries then you will need the set that comes with the charger and batteries. I purchased this for portability and not having to carry around an air hose and it’s great i can do where ever i need without anything attached.
It’s great because the unit is small enough to get into tight area’s and love the flashlight on the front where the anvil is because it illuminates what you are working on without needing to hold a flashlight.
The impact has significant torque and has loosened most fasteners i found it to as there is some where i need to break out the bigger impact for but otherwise it has significant torque for most applications.
I do use a 2 amp battery just because i feel the 5 amp is a little too heavy and the 2 amp is lighter because holding it for a while does hurt your arm but it’s not a huge deal. I just like the 2 amp because it can always throw it on the charger and keep swapping out batteries but for a do i find the 2 amp batteries last about one week but varies depending on the job it do.
Otherwise the price was just right and very happy with the purchase as it has held up from varies drops and bumps and scratches and it’s still running strong. Dewalt has made a strong impact here and i am happy it’s in my tool box and would totally recommend it.
I got this to work on my car, not realizing the difference in torque capabilities between a 3/8 and 1/2 drive. My lugs were tightened too tight from the shop and this driver couldn’t break them free.
Same for the bolts on my brake calipers, I had to get a 2 foot 1/2 drive breaker bar. I’d say the torque maxes out at around 100 foot pounds. There are no adjustments possible with the drill. When it does work and doesnt max out its torque, it works great.
I just don’t see too many applications for it besides threading bolts and nuts in tight areas that you don’t want to do by hand. It saves time in that regard.
Dewalt. I have been a Dewalt Fan since I got married and my dad made sure I had a 4pc Dewalt Kit Jobsite Radio to Match. He wanted me to have quality tools since so was a newlywed 1st time home owner.
Dewalt has only gotten better over the last 20 years. The batteries have gotten smaller lighter but the have 60x more power. They make high quality products that preform and are super durable and quality.
It’s worth the money to have quality tools. Yeah you can buy much cheaper tools at Harbor Freight that have a “lifetime” warranty. So that means you will be spending you valuable DIY saturdays in line returning a junk power tool for a new one that will last ten minutes and once again your driving back to exchange.
Buy quality and buy Dewalt. They are the very best power tool available in my opinion.
I bought this to change summer/winter tires and rotate tires on a Honda Accord and Pilot. Was on sale so purchased to make life easier than having to use a breaker bar on every nut. First three tire it worked flawlessly and I was delighted.
Last tire, it could not release two bolts and I had to look for and dig out the breaker bar. I could lube the bolt stems perhaps but I purchased this to NOT have to do any monkeying around. I tried random bolts on the Pilot and they came off no problem, but I couldn’t shake the disappointment I felt when I could not get those two bolts off.
Returned and ordered the dcf899B (higher torque rating) from another retailer as CTire did not carry. So the first three tires were awesome and if you lube bold stems you would likely be ok for pedestrian use.
I think it would work for most this way. CT was awesome with the return.
Purchased this impact wrench to use for changing tires on our vehicles and was uncertain what to expect as far as the performance of the wrench as well as how long a battery would last. Initial impression was very good.
Using a 2Ah battery, changed all 4 tires on two cars. Worked very well, didn’t need to use a wheel wrench to start backing the lug nuts off, also the 2Ah battery was still going strong when the job was done.
Highest-performing 1/2″ impact on the market! Features patented oversized floating air motor & twin hammer for better balance and two-stage trigger for power selection on the fly. Produces 1,600 ft lbs nut busting torque (940 continuous).
I have not had the impact long enough to say if it will last, but this is definitely the most powerful 1/2 impact gun I have ever used. Pick up a pack of high-flow fittings if you will use a 3/8s hose.
Beats out my m18 high torque, and my co-worker’s snap-on impacts. The trigger is very stiff and 2 stagy, but wears in quickly. For the price, this is an excellent buy if you need an impact that can do anything.
The Onyx Thor 1894 has been out of stock everywhere for some time. The supply of this 1/2″ air impact started to become available again at the beginning of April 2022. Summit customer service is always fantastic! Very pleased with the Best Price Guarantee & Free Shipping.
The Thor 1894 operates super smooth and has high quality machining. I was able to easily remove a 10mm hex bolt holding my steering wheel in place which I was unable to with a 24″ breaker bar. The 2 stage trigger is works just fine.
Thought it was kind of cheap how the trigger felt sticky, but trust my, you get used to it. It allows you to really feather the throttle so to speak, even with very little throttle she torques just fine.
Only had to give her full beans a couple times for rusted bus lug nuts. No complaints, and well worth the wait!.
Dewalt’s new 12 Volt MAX* lithium ion impact driver and impact wrench. At just over two pounds, the small, lightweight design of these tools is ideal for cabinetmakers and HVAC professionals, as well as electrical, mechanical and general contractors who perform overhead fastening applications.
Both products incorporate a contoured handle design and three LED lights that eliminate shadows on work surfaces. *maximum initial battery pack voltage (Measured without a workload) is 12 V measured under a workload, nominal voltage is 10.
This review is long overdue. I bought this impact in 2010 for my side business of small engine repair. I bought the 12V line because they were small/ light weight and easy for my nieces and nephews to use since they liked helping me.
The impact was great, that being said you have to use the tool for what it was intended for. I would use it with any socket 5/8ths or less, and 5/8 was the max!! I have taken hundreds of blade bolts, head bolts, carb bolts off with this thing.
No it’s not super powerful, no your not going to remove your lug nuts off your car, yes I have had to pop loose an bolt or two because they were over tightened, but a great tool.
Excellent value. Worth the money. Professional quality. Battery run time is very good compared to others I have used. THe first thing I noticed is the balance of the tool. It is extremely well balanced and the grips are comfortable.
THe led light is a nice feature but even the cheap ones have that feature. It can get into some pretty tight spaces, but using extensions and U sockets cuts the torque a lot. Does for any impact particularly if the fit of the sockets is poor.
I use it now in applications I wouldn’t have used an impact wrench. With a full charge and a good tight socket I was able to loosen lug nuts on a newer car. No idea of what they had been torqued to. THe low torque settings work very well.
It won’t replace a nut runner but DeWalt makes a fine one. THe 3/8” impact has pretty replaced my air ratchet and pneumatic 3/8″ drive impact. It’s really nice to not have to yard hoses around and listen to a compressor hammer away.
Over a fifteen year time frame I acquired a 20 volt 1/2 drive impact, a 7. 5 volt light and drill along with the 12 volt nut runner and LED light. Their reliability and ease of use influenced my latest purchase.
Hey guys if your looking at this cordless impact wrench it’s because your finally tired of using your wrenches lol and trust me this helps a lot! So I was browsing around for different brands from Milwaukee, makita, ryobi, and others.
And for the price this is the best one you can get. Now I’m not saying it’s the strongest one because obviously it isn’t but if your going to take apart small screws then it works fine. I had to replace mine for a Milwaukee fuel m12 3/8 and the difference was night and day.
Even comes with a nice box. And trust me the $50 difference is worth it. This dewalt is nice and very lightweight but the power is just to minimal.

This M18 high torque impact wrench is a game changer for the off-road building enthusiast to even professional mechanics. I’m an avid off-roader, and do all my own mods, as well as build custom parts for suspension to bumpers and roof racks and this impact has made life so much easier for assembly and disassembly.
Especially living in the north where road salt and calcium chloride eat everything up with bad rust, it doesn’t slow this bad boy down a bit. If your looking for an impact that works as hard as you do this is the one!.
This gun does almost everything I need it to do. I work on heavy mining equipment so I definitely put it through it’s paces. This gun has plenty of torque for removing most bolts 38mm and smaller with no difficulty.
The grip is ergonomic and the gun is small enough to fit in tight places. with a swivel of course lol. Overall though I would recommend this gun to anyone. Whether you’re trying to help a gal change a tire or bustin nuts, this is the tool you NEED to have in your repertoire.
This is hands down the best impact I have ever used. I was skeptical at the first trigger pull. It has a special loosen mode that seems to modulate as needed. After about 2 seconds of the trigger pull on a 20 year old bolt on a Cat excavator, it broke free, and then it self adjusted so that the bolt and socket did not go flying.
I have yet to find a bolt this will not get unstuck. Very happy with this purchase.

This thing is amazing! You can retire your pneumatic 1/2 inch drive wrench once you have this. Takes off lug nuts without breaking a sweat. Axle nuts, no problem either. Almost unbelievable this much torque can be had in a cordless tool.
The battery lifeobviously depends on what size battery you use but overall battery life is good to great. Most of the guys that I work with swear by the high priced tool truck brands but afyer seeing this thing in action, they always ask to use my Milwaukee impact when they have a stubborn bolt to loosen.
Head to head, in shop trials and the Milwaukee runs away with it every time. I had put off buying this because I alrighty have the mid torque model (2961-20), but WOW, the difference is night and day.
It is not the best for 18 wheeler sized lugnuts, for that, move up to the 1″ impact (2867-20)(2868-20). That being said, this 1/2″ model is all the torque that a car and/or pickup mechanic will need.
This has quickly become my go to impact for most jobs. Words of caution for people not used to using a tool with this much torque, be easy with the amount of time that you let it hammer when tightening.
It will snap off smaller bolts before you even realize it. Highly recommended for any “shade tree” or professional mechanic. Another homerun from Milwaukee!!.
It hits just as hard as any pneumatic we have in the shop and and 5 or 8 amp battery will usually do a whole job from start to finish on one charge. People will grab these now over the other air tools and are a no brainer when we have a field break down and don’t have to try to get the service truck as close to run an air hose.
Cons would be that the batteries are as or if not more expensive than the tool it’s self if you get a larger one. It’s also heavier than most air guns especially the titanium IR. Only other gripe is it will switch power settings on its own maybe as the battery gets weaker or if it has a load sensor to only use what it needs to save juice? Who knows.
You gotta fumble with the button if you have gloves on so that’s sort of a pain. Overall it kicks butt and seems like Milwaukee is making some really good stuff for the automotive or heavy truck side that you don’t see in other brands.
The GOODYEAR 1/2 Inch Impact Wrench gets the job done by providing an impressive 650 ft-lbs of torque. This durable pneumatic tool is perfect for handling repairs and regular maintenance on cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, lawn and garden equipment, and more.
Loosen or tighten nuts and bolts fast and easy with the powerful Goodyear 650 ft-lbs of torque impact wrench. The rugged construction and ergonomic rubber grip help reduce fatigue and increase control when working for long periods of time.
Whether you are tackling vehicle repairs in your own garage or are a professional mechanic, this impact wrench will increase your productivity and allow you to remove threaded fasteners with ease.
does anyone know the recommended acfm? i discarded the packaging after opening. i initially hooked up to my craftsman 26 gal and was not satisfied. after doing my research i moved to a bigger compressor system.
2 parallel 26 gallon tanks and this thing has some serious pull but i went thru what i feel is too much effort for this impact to do its job. 3/5 had better battery guns for sure.
I’m not a mechanic but recently I’ve been doing a lot more of my own car repair, and having an impact wrench for things like tire rotation is essential. I use two floor jacks, one on each side and move my tires from front to back.
Having to use a regular lug wrench is a pain. It makes you feel like a pro using this. Just be careful to not tighten the lugs with this. You need a torque wrench so that you don’t over tighten which is easy to do with a powerful tool such as this.
As far as quality it’s more than suitable for the backyard mechanic, but I don’t think you’ll see it in any pro shops anytime soon (but it’s for home use really).
Great for tight spaces like large truck tire wheel wells. One Key allows customization and tracking of the tool along with 4 driver control modes. Enable lug nut mode to prevent over torque and better control.
Comes with 360 degree adjustable and removable side handle.
Good unit to have when you do mobile work. About as heavy as a standard unit, but the mobility is a huge plus. Also has the ability to adjust settings via the OneKey app. I have setting 4 as the “torque” setting.
Automatically limits torque to 450ft lbs for putting on lug nuts. I will say that I had to send it in for repair. I believe one of my guys dropped it on the ground or threw it in the back of the shop truck and caused a battery connection to become loose internally.
It stopped working unless you held the battery in a certain way, then stopped altogether. But!!! I contacted customer service and it was warranty repaired, they paid shipping both ways and it didn’t cost me anything!! Overall its a good unit and I’ve only had one set of lug nuts that it didn’t want to remove, but arguably my old school IR wheel gun didn’t want to remove them either.
Man this thing is the core to my tool set for auto transportation. I run a small tire shop in sc are called All World Tires. We do otr Service calls and this thing is perfect for side of the road interstate calls.
I normally hate running my 1/2 inch air line then 3/8 inch air line. That makes set up time dangerous and longer than my liking. with this i just have run 1 hose and bring the gun. Air the jack up ans then zip 10 lugs off.
This tool keeps me off the side of the road and between traffic and my work truck. , which to no surprise most drivers dont slow down and get over into the left lane. Anyways that and the torque spec auto shut off js awesome too.
I used to also have a privelm with breaking or over toghtening the lug nut but not with this thing!.
To start a have many Milwaukee tools I have 4 1/2 drive 18volt fuel impact guns in my tire shop. The 1/2 will do what this does Iam using a 12 amp battery on it and it is terrible. My 1 in drive harbor freight air impact rates at 1600 ft.
Lbs puts it to shame. We ran some lug nuts on and verified with a torque wrench it wasn’t even putting out 600 ft lbs. the other thing that really has me upset I have called Milwaukee and left a message to call me back it’s been 1.
5 weeks I emailed them about it it’s been 1. 5 weeks nothing. I love Milwaukee tops and really want it like or brag about this gun but it is a disaster. I was not going to write a review until I gave Milwaukee a chance to figure out what is going on and they have failed on that front as well so here is my review.
Iam going to return it and better get 100% refund. Very disappointed.
The HART 20V -inch Impact Wrench is a perfect addition to any DIY mechanics garage. This impact wrench features a powerful motor delivering up to 350 ft/lbs. of torque and works very well with stronger applications when fastening or loosening large nuts and bolts.
This Impact Wrench has a friction ring allowing for quick socket changes while still providing a secure grip. An LED work light enhances visibility when working in those hard to see areas within your vehicles engine bay.
The HART 1/2-inch Drive Deep Impact Sockets are an excellent addition to any DIY mechanics tool kit. These sockets are deep sockets, meaning they provide better reach and enhanced access for working in those tight, hard-to-reach areas found in and around your vehicles engine bay.
These sockets are designed for and rated to withstand working with high-impact tools like impact wrenches. This set features sockets with a 6-point design for better grip on fasteners while preventing round-off in high torque applications.
These sockets are forged from high-grade, impact-rated Chrome Vanadium Steel to hold up to the rigors of heavy-duty use.
This Hart brand ½’ impact gun is great for any do it yourself-er or maybe even for a professional. I say this because I was a professional auto mechanic for 38 years and I would have liked this on a daily usage basis.
The impact gun itself is light weight and typically smaller than most others on the market today. That may not seem like a big deal, but when working for several hours with an impact gun, it can become heavy and somewhat cumbersome.
The battery and charger combo must be purchased separately with this impact gun. The 2 choices that I know of are the 1. 5 Ah and the 2. 0 Ah batteries. Only differences being the 2. 0 battery is some bigger and heavier but will have a longer runtime than the 1.
5. The built in LED light is great and operates automatically whenever the trigger is squeezed. I think the motor might be brush-less (desirable) and also has an automatic brake upon trigger release to prevent unnecessary spinning.
All in all, this Hart impact gun is better than average with similar torque (turning power) and is something any home mechanic would definitely want.
On a single High Output HD12. 0Ah battery, get the runtime to install or remove up to 120 lug nuts with just one charge. Lug nut mode automatically shuts off this Milwaukee 1 in D-handle impact wrench when it reaches 350-450 ft-lbs to prevent over-torquing, and can be enabled through the ONE-KEY app.
The 4-Mode Drive Control feature gives you greater control over the speed and power of your high torque impact wrench. This kit includes two M18 REDLITHIUM High Output HD12. 0 batteries and a charger, giving you more work per charge and more work over the life of the battery pack than other comparable 18V batteries.
The patented battery isolation system manages high frequency vibrations, which enables battery movement that prevents damage and keeps a constant connection between the tool and battery when in use. Protect your impact wrench and battery from damage due to overheating and overloading with built in Milwaukee REDLINK PLUS intelligence.
One-Key compatibility on this tool gives you the ability to customize, track, and manage your impact wrench for maximum security and productivity. The app also allows you to set a repeatable torque output on your tool for maximum control.
I am a DIE HARD Milwaukee fan. Got rid of everything snap on and have over 40 Milwaukee products. I bought this gun thinking I was going to blow my 3/4 snap on air gun out the door. This gun has no power.
I tried all the settings and I couldn’t break free one lug nut. I put my 3/4 snap on air gun on it and it blew them off in seconds. Please tell me I’m doing something wrong !!!.
When jobs demand nut-busting power, the FLEX 24V Brushless High Torque Impact Wrench delivers 1150 ft-lbs. of unrelenting torque. Take control with three adaptable speed modes and do it comfortably with vibration suppression.
Activate Removal Mode for extra control to extract lug nuts quickly, safely, and efficiently. Built-in LED lighting illuminates your work area. This impact wrench dominates with the FLEX Advantage: unmatched battery power, runtime, and fast-charging speed to keep you going.
All protected by a dependable 5-year warranty. Flex 24V 1/2-In High Torque Impact Wrench Kit FX1471-1C | Acme Tools.
This FLEX 24V brushless high torque impact wrench kit came with a 5. 0Ah battery, 160W fast charger, and a hard shell case. The case is really nice, and everything fits perfectly in it, its one of the better cases I’ve gotten with a power tool.
The battery is big, and the lights are super bright on it! You can easily see how much life is left on the batteries even in full sunlight! FLEX also put the LEDs on both sides of the battery so no matter what angle you look at the battery you’ll be able to tell the battery level.
The charger is super fast, but here’s the caveat, its loud. It has fans (like a computer) built into it to cool it and the battery down during the charging so they don’t overheat like other manufacturers can.
I really like this feature, but FLEX took it a step further and set it up so the fan only runs while the battery is actively charging, so you’ll know when the battery is fully charged as the fans will stop spinning (and you’ll be able to see from those beautiful bright LEDs).
This FLEX impact wrench has a vibration suppression handle, which means there’s almost like a rubber dampener between the wrench body and the handle, and due to this there is a little play between them.
You might think there is something wrong with the tool, but there isn’t, this allows the wrench head to absorb the majority of the vibration so you don’t feel it as much in the handle and your hands won’t tire as easy or strain as much.
Great feature! The variable speed is controlled two ways, the trigger is a variable speed trigger, but there are also speed modes on the handle just above the battery so you can set the max speed you want to limit the tool to.
The wrench is heavy, as most are, and fairly big, but its not the heaviest or biggest wrench out there, but to be honest you don’t feel it as much due to that vibration suppression. I don’t have a way to measure the advertised 1150 ft-lbs of torque, but it did not slow, bog, or show any issue for me in the tests/tasks I put it through, from changing tires on multiple cars (including SUVs and trucks), to loosening rusted/stuck nuts, and I even tested it on driving some structural lag bolts through some hard oak beams.
I’m really impressed with this FLEX impact wrench, and FLEX in general, and I will definitely recommend this tool!.
This is my third impact wrench and the first one was air impact great around the shop but limited to as long as your air hose will reach. My second impact was electric easier to get an electric connection to where you were working but the impact wasn’t as strong as the air.
This is my third impact. wow where was this all my life. You talk about take it anywhere and extremely powerful for those big stubborn nuts and bolts. No more need of hoses and electric cords. This i pick up and go with my sockets and get the job done out in the field on the tractor and other equipment.
Makes getting the job done so much easier and quicker and putting away after the job is done. Thats why i rated my three impacts as good better and then the Best. GOOOOOOO FLEX !!!!.
The impact wrench is a powerful tool that can quickly remove lug nuts from a vehicle. When used properly, it can make the job of changing a tire much easier and faster. However, if used improperly, the impact wrench can cause serious damage to the vehicle or the person using it.
It is important to read the instructions carefully and use the impact wrench only as directed.
