16 Best Hunting Headlamp With Green Light (2023 Updated)

I have never liked head torches because of the bulk. This one caught my attention because of its tiny size. Very light and comfortable to wear all day. Usb charging is fast and as long as you don’t use the higher powers, battery life is great.

Only downside is the led is dimmed by flickering it on and off very fast. Sometimes when you turn fast or are watching a falling hammer, you get a weird flickering feel to what you see. Would be nice to see a faster frequency that wasn’t so easily perceived.

This headlight is absolutely the best one I have ever purchased. It is bright, recharges easily and I don’t even know it’s on my hat brim. The only issue I had was when I mistakenly took the on / off button off when I thought I was opening the charging cover.

Evidently there is a spacer that I must have lost. I use a pencil to push the on ‘ off switch now, but the light still works great.

This is an awesome bit of kit, even better that it has a clip to allow you to attach it to a baseball cap peak as I wear a hat most of the time. Not sure what the other guys beef is with this torch as turbo mode is only supposed to come on for a short time, but the normal function works absolutely fine for me.

Most of my fly-fishing is in daylight. But experience has taught me that when you need a light you don’t want to fool around. Since my search and rescue days I’ve always had a headlamp in my kit. They are essential gear for that and for most of my camping trips.

Truth be told they are pretty handy for skunk patrol when Lily takes her evening turn around the backyard. When I came across the BioLite HeadLamp 200 I was intrigued enough to buy one and give it a try.

I’m happy I did. First of all it is comfortable and extremely light weight (under 2 oz. ) I wear it with a hat and hardly notice it. The 200 lumen spotlight is very bright. At full power it illuminates a good distance (about 150′ +/-.

) The brightness adjusts easily if you want to conserve power or reduce the illumination. It’s rechargeable via a USB. It’s a micro port so keep track of the cord. The headband is super easy to adjust, making it quick and easy to accommodate my head or hats as need be.

The light has detents in four positions so when you set it it stays put. There is a red light setting if you need to preserve you night vision while reading. You can activate a strobe setting for both the white or red light.

A good safety feature if you want to get attention. It can be easily locked in the off position to prevent it from accidentally discharging. It’s water resistant (IPX4) which means you don’t want to dunk it in the water.

If it’s raining, I’d cover it from above. I wear mine under the bill of my ball cap and it pretty comfortable. BioLite has an informative video showing all the features of the light. The run time is listed as three hours at full brightness and 40 hours at lowest setting.

I bought a BioLite Charge 40 PD as a backup power source to go with my backcountry kit. It’s a little added insurance and can be used for my iPhone, which I use for photos and navigation. I like buying stuff from companies that do good deeds, BioLite is no exception.

Super headlamp. Best I have ever owned. My only complaint is that teh feature that the light turns to its mode and brightness when restarting only lasts 12 hours. I could not figure that out fro instructions.

I could never figure out what was going on until I saw video. I use it every night in bed to read before falling asleep. So I would love it if that feature lasted 30 hours I suppose they want the default to be red so it will be at its least intrusive.

But going through the machinations with some degrees of errors is much more intrusive to my partner who is already asleep.

I’ve previously purchased HeadLamp 330’s for myself and my adult camper children. Those are very good. especially for on-trail at night trekking, with a brighter white output and a larger battery for longer run time.

In the short time since receiving it, I’ve given it a run through and comparison. The simpler in design “spin off” HeadLamp 200 is even more suited to camping needs, where in general I have used a Petzl e+Lite.

clearly the e+Lite is limited to “in/at camp” uses (e. g. , around the fire, settling in at night, finding the “facilities” at midnight) than the more demanding general use of a headlamp (e. g. , on-trail at night, very early morning jogging, etc.

). Now the 1oz e+Lite is a max of 1/4 the brightness of the HeadLamp 200, and has a very weak red, hence the limitation to in/at camp, where brightness causes trouble. But the only slightly heavier 1-3/4 oz HeadLamp 200 with its brighter red and more than adequately bright white for trail – both DIMMABLE, makes for a much better to/from/around/in/at camp companion.

Further, the mechanical simplicity of the in-lamp battery (at expense of run-time and brightness) makes for a lighter, arguably more durable headlamp for all-around camp use. The adjustability is so easy, with no excess strap dangling, and the material and crafting makes for a headlamp that is very comfortable to wear for a long stretch.

The operation is essentially identical to the Headlamp 330. I appreciate the initial start-up at red (saving night vision), the dimming of BOTH white and red, the memory of last setting, and the mode sequencing.

Great job! Lock/Unlock is intuitive as well. Negatives? Ok, my big fingers have not quite “found” the right place to press the button. practice, practice. (I do much better in-hand than on-head. ) Also, Lithium rechargeable cells don’t fare well in cold weather, either for run time or charging, so remember it would be better to keep this on your person rather than in an exposed-to-cold pack pouch.

Once you’re wearing it, it will be kept warm and live up to expectations. Another thought? Why do headlamp makers always go with RED as a secondary output. when GREEN light provides better visibility and acuity than red for us humans.

A bright green light with dimmer would be perfect for late night hiking on a trail, allowing you to actually SEE without spooking wildlife. At least the HeadLamp 200 red is bright enough to not trip and stumble on the trail on the way to the pit toilet in the middle of the night.

My first zipka headlamp was purchased back in like 2006. It was very well loved, and the casing eventually cracked so it couldn’t be used. I ordered this one as a replacement and love the mint color, and the option for the red light – that’s a new feature since my old one! I use it for running and biking, during power outages, searching through dark storage.

I am so glad Petzl still makes the zipka. I prefer this style over the larger bands or velcro straps. Minimal, and easy to use. Highly recommend!.

I have several of these, and the latest was purchased as a gift. I almost always have one in my pocket or bag. Summer or winter, the extra light around the house or when out running or walking is so useful–both to see and be seen.

This particular light has a red lamp. I don’t use it often, but when it is needed to protect night vision (mine and the people around me), it is super handy. Plus, the red lamp runs well even when the batteries are low and the white light doesn’t work.

This is not bright enough for biking or night skiing, though in a pinch it will get you through. For everything else, it is excellent. I like the zipka style–no bulky strap–it packs up very small. The buttons can be managed with moderately heavy gloves.

Durability–I still use my older style petzl zipka from when LEDs were just coming to market. I have never had the cord wear out or break.

This would be a five start review if the specs were correct. I ran two tests on high and two tests on medium outputs in a 20°C environment with fresh Duracell alkaline batteries. The results were very consistent.

I also ran one test on high and one test on medium outputs with the Petzl Core rechargeable battery. The results of all tests, alkaline and the Core batteries were very similar as far as runtime. About 3 hours on high and 4 hours on medium.

The specs on the packaging suggested 60 hours on either modes. I didn’t run the test on the low output. Good things about it. I did a 7 day hike and this was the only headlamp/torch I used for it. Very bright, comfortable to wear and very light.

I went through one set of alkaline batteries and after five days I changed to the Core rechargeable batteries. The torch performed very well. Things to improve. Maybe an extra mode a bit brighter than the lowest output would be nice.

The on/off button is a bit hard to press. It seems a bit deep and you need to have your finger in the exact right place to make it work. I suppose a good thing about it is that it wouldn’t turn on by accident in your pocket/bag.

Overall a good torch but if the specs were correct I would probably buy another torch.

I bought this based on reviews and the reputation of Petzel. It’s a quality item and even came with name brand Duracell batteries. The brightness is adjustable and at its highest level, it puts out an incredible beam of light.

The direction of the beam is also adjustable. The headband is very comfortable as well. Great piece of gear for doing anything that requires 2 hands in the dark.

I’ve always know Petzl for building quality products. The Actik headlamp is no exception. I bought this headlamp specifically for my trek to Everest Basecamp. Many of the alpine teahouses rely upon solar power which shuts the lights out about an hour after sundown.

One must rely on an alternative light source for nighttime activity. My Actik headlamp got plenty of use over 21 days of trekking. The battery life held up even in low temps. It was a necessity on our pre-dawn summit of Kala Pattar.

I’m not generally a fan of things being strapped around my head, but find the Actik’s head strap to be comfortable even during long periods of wear. Highly recommend. Moosejaw rocks!.

I wanted a performance upgrade to my old Petzl Tikka XP2 and the Actik is definitely an upgrade in all respects. The Actik gives superior lighting performance in the same size package. The light beam pattern is biased towards flood than distance.

On standard power setting, in my opinion you still get around 10m of bright usuable illumination. Full power is very bright for such a small torch. I originally bought the Actik without the Petzl Core battery but soon bought one.

The torch is brighter and runs for much longer using the Core battery rather than AAA batteries.

Petzel has some excellent front torches in the catalog, I think this Actik is a great product. It is light and with good night visibility, especially when it is night in the mountains!

There are bigger lights, there are brighter lights, there are more featured lights, but for many this will be more than enough. 250 LUMINES is plenty bright. Three easy to switch between modes. Hard to beat for the price.

I bought two. I Upgraded the battery as well by getting a CORE rechargeable pack(the rechargeable battery I would give a lower score for, it is expensive). If you already have a head lamp this will be good as an extra supplement, toss it in your glove box as an emergency light source or to give to a friend.

Although it does not come with a rechargeable battery the brand itself does self rechargeable batteries. Nevertheless, the headlamp does come with disposable ones for you to use right away. Super bright light.

Great for camping!.

This is the 3rd one I’ve bought over the years. Great design. Ease of operation. Durable. Highly recommend.

Well designed, well build, probably one of the best products of its kind (I haven’t researched) at a nice price, not cheap, but the product is well worth it since it will likely last a very long time.

The operation is very simple, but at least for me unusual at first, its a single timed switch. Turn-on with one push, change intensity with one push within a short time between pushes, so you either do it once, for low setting, one-two in succession for middle setting, or one-two-three for high.

One long push changes mode from white light to red. Same operation as before to change from static red, to pulsing red (i. e. one short push, shortly after either changing mode, or turning the lamp on).

One short push turns it off. Other than that, the only other setting is inclination. For that purpose the base has a few steps, you twist the lamp vertically, and feel the steps. The band is elastic, adjustable, reflective, and comfortable.

This model does include the emergency whistle in one of the band’s buckles. I believe the only difference with other models is the light intensity.

I finally broke down and bought myself the Petzl after my cheap no name head lamp quit working on my as I was underneath my kitchen sink trying to fix a leak. I had always balked at the price, but let’s just I was so angry that price was no longer an obstacle.

I do not regret the purchase whatsoever. I had been looking at this specific model for a while but just couldn’t pull the trigger. It is easy to use, bright, waterproof, and reliable.

I am disappointed with this product. I am currently at JRTC at Fort Polk Louisiana. Light worked great for about 2 weeks. After that it started emitting a very low beam. I would turn it off and on a couple of times, and it would start working again.

I replaced with brand new batteries, and the same thing happened. About a week later the lamp stopped working all together. I ordered this light before I left for this event because I needed a red light for tactical use.

I had a night shift and I was very dependent on this lamp. I have owned Petzl lamps in the past, and they have been great.

This is a good headlamp from a good brand. The way the button works to control the lamp is well thought out: first press is the dim 6 lumens, then mid, then high. If you don’t press the button for about 5-10 seconds after turning it on then press it, it turns off instead of cycling through the brightnesses upwards.

So you don’t blind yourself if you want to go from 6 lumens to 0. Hold the button down for the red light. One thing that doesn’t get mentioned is how cool the light cycles through brightness settings and turns off, there’s a fading effect! Doesn’t sound too neat in words but when you do it, it’s cool.

I wish it were waterproof like older Petzls but that’s not a dealbreaker for me.

Needed to replace my old Petzl headlamp, because as tough as they are when they get run over by a car. they don’t fair so well. This light is bright can switch colors and is as robust as always. Thinking I might purchase a few more as stocking stuffers come Christmas time.

As advertised and exceeded expectations. Has following Modes: White Flood-3 settings, White Spot-3 settings, Green-2 settings. All settings as far as pattern or how the light flows/covers area are very satifactory, especially when using green mode, (no dark area’s within it’s uniform pattern) Lowest setting on green is “low,low” which may not seem much at first but once ones eyes adjust to the ambient light of night, approx.

30 mins, pleased with that setting. This lower setting of green light is perfect, not sending out much light to be seen from afar but just enough to read a map. The alternative to this would be NVG’s or not using artificial light.

Overall very pleased for what one is getting for general use vs cost. Also, for those that haven’t use the conventional method of artificial light (not NVG) but green, red or blue less white method of lightning, you may find you’ll be using green almost as much as white when hiking, around camp etc.

simply to keep eyes at their best for vision at night/low light conditions not having to wait 30 mins. when transitioning from White to Green. I prefer red on snow cover area or an enclosed area such as a vehicle or cockpit of an AC.

I prefer Blue at night during full overcast conditions, green if skies are clear or partly cloudy with or without aid from moonlight. Please don’t get confused with the preferences I’m mentioning, these are just my preferences over the years of night use.

Less is more generally speaking, don’t feel that you have to have a dozen different headlamps just because. This lamp is an excellent entry level headlamp or a spare back-up or just wanting another headlamp to offset the high end purchases previously, to add another lamp set to your gear at the same time, keeping overall cost down in having a couple of lamps already.

This lamp comes with a few more features than others at a reasonable cost. Additional features: switch is easily accessible with or without gloves of medium weight. Switch is placed in a manner and raised, one doesn’t have to search for, and it’s placement is in such a way won’t have to worry when in pack or pocket of an unintended on if bumped, rolling around.

Have had in steady rain during extended use with no issues to date. Unit has a well made and placed rubber o-ring keeping dirt, dust and moisture out. Upon closing unit after placement of fresh batteries lock-up is solid, tight and secure.

Battery use, all depends how much you use it just like most items, but haven’t seen any unusual short run time when it’s due for fresh batteries, and it’s used often, spare batteries are always a must regardless and a smart way being prepared for unexpected events.

For general use and having various modes; flood, spot and 2 settings for green, a person can’t go wrong in it’s asking price. If a person wants to light up the night they’re other lamps out there but cost increases expedentially to achieve distance and coverage.

I bought this because I do lots of various projects around the house and shop. I used it the first time to work in my attic to repair some dust work. It was PERFECT. The FLOOD light setting was great for moving around and having plenty of light to see where I was going and the spot light setting worked welll once I got to where I was focusing on the task of sealing the flex duct to the ceiling vent.

I will definitly make use of this hands free headlight more often.

I like the light itself and have purchased many Streamlight products over the years, but the attachment to the headband is terrible. One fall off my head and the plastic “cradle” / mount ears snapped off rendering headlamp useless.

Same issue as other review. Should be made of a much more durable polymer.

I’ve owned quite a few headlamps over the years. Some were cheap, some were expensive, and some were not so good. The cheap and not so good ended up in a draw somewhere. There is one I still use, but now I have a great option with the Ozark Trail 100L.

Its the brightest headlamp I’ve ever used illuminating a wide swath in front of me. Its the only one that is hinged allowing me to angle the light down casting light where its needed. The headband is comfortable and was easy to put on and adjust.

I have a 7 3/8″ hat size (Large) and it fits me fine with additional adjustment for larger heads. This light comes with 3 AAA to power it up Bright, comfortable, and come with batteries its a great product and a great value.

Terrible cheap junk. Falls apart if you slightly bump it which causes the batteries to get lost. Clicker randomly sticks. Headband falls out of grooves when putting it on. Hinge on one broke already.

Great for China; bad for the US. Avoid!.

After a decade long hiatus from backcountry activities I decided to get back into backpacking last year. I needed to upgrade some of my gear including a headlamp. I went with the Petzl brand due to name recognition and reputation.

So far I’ve been very pleased with the lamp after use in a few trips. I get several nights out of the mid range light setting before recharging is required. I rarely use the brightest setting but at-home testing of this setting confirms an approximate two hour burn time.

I also like the interchangeability of the CORE rechargeable battery with three AAA batteries. Apparently one gets longer burn times with the latter but I have not tested as the CORE battery serves my needs fine.

I pair this with the Petzl Noctilight carrying case for in camp use. I would recommend this accessory as it serves as a great lantern alternative, storage case for the headlamp, and also is large enough to store three AAA batteries as well as a short recharge cable in addition to the headlamp itself.

Love multitasking camping gear! MEC doesn’t appear to carry the Noctilight any longer but not sure if it may be available elsewhere. In any event, as to the headlamp itself, it works great and I would think provides more than enough light, both in terms of brightness and burn time, for most backcountry endeavours.

No hesitation in recommending this product.

Full charge on the battery upon arrival and then tested. Using this lamp strictly as a tool during Bike maintenance, I don’t consider these lamps as an adequate light for night riding. The strap is comfortable and stays in place and the light adjusts downward enough to give you a good view of your work space.

The 1 main issue I have, is that the lamp is basically useless on it’s lowest brightness setting. I didn’t expect it to be adequate really, as this is not a really high Lumen lamp, but the low setting is probably never going to be used by me.

Medium is OK, but being an old(er) fart, I like light. so high beams it is! I got 72 minutes on the supplied rechargeable battery, pretty good, but I’ll be keeping 3 AAA’s nearby whenever I’ll be doing a major service.

Don’t really need the Red lamp functions, but they seem adequate for the uses it’s designed for. Overall I’m happy with the lamp and with my contact with MEC Support! I have big plans for the offseason, new tyres, cassette & chain, front fork lower leg re-lube, upper leg seals and all pivot joints and bearings/bushings re-greased, so this little lamp will get a good workout! If something comes up, I’ll repost about it, but so far so good!.

Well made and professional, come with choice of red lightning or red flashing light. The white lightning is great with 3 levels, 6 lm, 100 lm, 300lm the first one can last 120 h (WOW) the last at 300 lumens 2h (great), strap around the head is very convenient and comfortable (adjustable to your size easily).

Also adjustable to 4 different heights from 45 degree angle to look at proper surface on the ground or in the air for your security. Would recommend to anyone for outdoor night hicking, climbing, camping, fishing.

I have owned this headlamp for 3 months with limited use for work and play. Although many of the features are positive, quality of light, minimal weight and easy head band adjustment, I do have issues with the product.

I’m lucky if I get 3 hours of illumination on the brightest setting after a full charge. If I use the lamp for a couple of short duration usages at it’s brightest (3-10 minute periods over a week), it’s requires recharging again.

As well the rubber flap the covers the USB port is easily dislodged from the closed positioning and the actual USB port is awkward to insert the charging cord.

I work in the construction industry, which means I get up a zero-dark-thirty! The industry standard head light is made by Milwaukee. The issue with the Milwaukee solution is that it is designed to mount on a hard hat, not on your head, directly, being it’s very heavy and clunky.

I tried consumer lights, but but nothing worked well. I found a handheld flashlight was most effective when seeking tools or hardware in the dark warehouse in the early morning hours. But, that too, was an issue, being I was forced to have only one hand free.

Without ever concerning bioLite, being when I think of bioLite, I think of recreational activities has to use their products and not has a professional application. I have a few of their other products, and I must say, the Camp Stove, fire Pit, and the SunLight has all surpassed my expectations in overall performance when I jump off the grid! So, I decided to give the HeadLamp 200 a shot.

Well, this little item has met bar with all the other BioLite items I own. My very first impression, when I first used it, was to how comfortable it fits on my head, directly or on my cap, when I wear it backwards.

Then the overall field of vision when I turned the light on is extremely wide, it covers my peripherals, with the same brightness has the center and the light it sable, no readjusting needed! I did have concerns of the 3 hour run time when set to high, being when it is stated 3 hours, expect 2 1/2 hours of actual run time, right? This is not the case, I honestly have not timed the overall run time on high, but, I can say, to this moment, I have not ever found myself without light when I needed it.

Lastly, I have encountered one issue not anticipated prior to my purchase. I have found the headlight is so lite and comfortable, I forget to remove it when I return to the office. I have found that I am well into the mid-morning hours, sometimes the afternoon before removing it! I am extremely happy with the headlight, I’m going purchase another one for my wife, when we go camping….

I am an Iditarod trail veterinarian that needs a good headlamp at night and in a variety of weather conditions. Last year, one of my elderly headlamps died so a friend quickly loaned me one of their BD Storms.

It worked great for the short period of nighttime, moderately warm (25-35) temps that I used it for, and we had fun playing with the different colors when doing some night-time photography. So, when I got back to the Lower 48, I bought two to take with me to Alaska this year.

Good thing I bought two and good thing I took plenty of batteries. The batteries died in the first one I used in about 5 hours (25-30 degrees F) with off and on red light, bright and dim as well as clear, bright and dim.

I figured it could have been bad batteries so I changed them out from a brand new package. They too were dead in about 5-6 hours. That was a bummer, but fortunately, that checkpoint was done. At my next checkpoint, I tried the second headlamp.

It was much colder and there was more night work, so I figured it would be a good test for the overall product versus one individual bad one. Well, it was only a bit better. And that was even with warming up batteries.

So, I just went back to my 6 yr old, simple Black Diamond head lamp which did great for the rest of the race (4 more nights). All total, I went through 4 sets of batteries in 4 days with both headlamps.

That’s not my idea of robustness. Since I can’t take the headlamps back, I will continue to use them in the summer when it’s warmer and they only have to be on red for a few hours at a time when I am doing horse chores or setting up for nighttime photography.

Black Diamond, my 6 yr old BD headlamp has worked consistently better and is lasting longer than your new headlamps. maybe work on something that will truly be robust enough to last in the night Alaska winter wilderness.

I have many headlamps, including the Spot 300, Spot 200, two vintage Petzl Tikkas, a bunch of cheap Duracell headlamps from Costco, and an incandescent Petzl headlamp that’s 35 years old. I use them around the house, on camping trips, and my volunteer mission trips to Third World countries where there is no electricity.

The Spot 400 is the best of the bunch, a significant improvement on its predecessors—which were already very good. The wire cutter has an excellent comparative review of headlamps. But, most notably, the two button design makes it much easier to rotate through modes, and turn the headlamp on and off.

The headlamp also has a smaller profile and is less bulky on the forehead than the 300 and 200. The power tap feature turns both white LEDs on at full maximum, it’s useful from time to time but I find I turn it on by accident a lot.

The ability to dim all three LEDs is great, and the headlamp remembers your last setting, although learning how to do this might take a bit of practice. It’s the same as on the Spot 200 and 300. Black Diamond advertises dual fuel, you can get the optional BD 1500 lithium battery pack, I have not used or seen one but, when I need extra performance I buy Energizer Ultimate lithium AAA batteries.

They last forever and are significantly lighter than standard alkaline AAA‘s. Great when you’re traveling in a country where electricity is not to be taken for granted.

I previously owned older versions of Black Diamond headlamp and liked them, but bought this new one because the hinge on my older ones was no longer keeping the headlamp up. This one I do not like and I regret purchasing it.

The battery lasts at most one evening of camping, and this is trying to keep the lamp in a dim setting. Every time you turn it on and off it seems to jump into a bright mode. Every time you touch the right side of it, it will turn to bright mode.

This is supposed to be a feature, but the area is so sensitive that almost every time you adjust the direction of the beam, it jumps into bright mode, further draining the battery. The head band is very uncomfortable and does not stay on your head well (because of the material and because it is so narrow) unless it is very tight.

If you have it tight, the plastic strap adjusters dig into your skull and the narrow plastic rim of the attachment of the strap to the light digs into your forehead. I think the only good thing to say about this headlamp is that it has a red light and switching between lighting modes is easy because there is a separate button for this.
