20 Best Humidifier For Coughing At Night (2023 Updated)

Our second purchase. We use the first one in the bedroom. Much better than units with filters. Some startup issues with the second one. The humidity sensor slowly went to 90% and the unit did not run.

As the unit came up to room temperature the reading slowly dropped, and it started working. This unit does not come on until the humidity level drops 5% below the setpoint. The unit is well made. Operation is quiet and it does a good job humidifying the room.

Like that the display can be turned off at night. Using the second one to supplement the whole house humidifier during the colder weather.

I have had one of these for over three years; this purchase was a gift to someone else. Mine functions as well now as when I first got it, no complaints. You can get compatible wicks for low cost and they last a good length of time.

This humidifer is built “simply;” there are not a whole bunch of little parts and nooks where things can build up or that you need to take apart to clean it. I chose this model because I wanted to try a cool mist huidifer after getting frustrated with various warm mist types, vaporizers, etc.

I did a lot of research and a number of articles picked this as the best overall humidifier for a room. Years later when I searched again, it was still at the top spot, and hard to get ahold of!.

The Honeywell HCM-350 is a rugged, straightforward design. In concept almost a middle school science project; a fan blowing over a wet cylindrical wick. It is bigger than you might expect, about 17 inches long.

The water reservoir lifts our easily and has a convenient handle, but you may want to carry it upside down, because the cap on the bottom will be wet when you lift it out. It holds a little over a gallon.

The instructions say to put it on a waterproof surface. The bottom section is a rather shallow tray that carries water from the reservoir to the wick, and that surface should be flat and stable. Putting it on a larger tray to catch any spills or sloshes would be a good idea.

It is Honeywell-branded, but that name does not appear on the device, only on the instructions and the carton. I could not find any indication of model number, power consumption, or place of origin on the device.

The carton says “Made in China”, no surprise there. The instructions advise not using any extension cord, suggesting high power consumption. I measured a current consumption of 0. 4A, about the same as a small (incandescent) light bulb, so no real concern about an extension cord.

The noise level on the highest setting was about 58dB. On the lowest, about 38dB, not much above a typical ambient. The price of the unit is probably driven by the germicidal lamp, as it seems to be a good deal more expensive than similar units without this feature.

I can’t comment on its actual benefit.

This is the first time using this type of device. My wife has had the problem of constant throat clearing. She seen a a number of specialists for this but without success. A pharmacist said it might be dry air here in Las Vegas, a problem with many singers who come her to perform.

So I bought this machine and have been using it for a short time. The usual relative humidity here is usually very low, in the single digits, but my Google Home device just said 26%. With the Honeywell humidifier I’m able to get our large bedroom up to around 40% during the night with the setting on low.

It’s a quiet unit. Although the directions didn’t say use distilled water, many on Google said to do this. So I’m using about a gallon of distilled water a day running the unit about 10 hours a day. As for my wife’s throat clearing, it’s too early to see if it’s going to be beneficial.

With temperatures and humidity dropping in my apartment, and air so dry that my cat was wary of letting me pet her due to static, I figured it was time to invest in a humidifier. After some searching, I decided to give the Myst a try, despite low review counts, and have not been disappointed so far.

Below are my impressions as a harsh grader, after almost 2 week’s of use:Overall (35/40) – The Myst humidifier is pricey, but of awesome value! While it is not perfect, it ticked many of the boxes I looked for in a humidifier, and has performed well so far.

From sleek design, great functionality and amazing customer service – this is a product I would recommend. Design (10/10) – Thoughtful design that looks sleek and elegant. Fits well in my bedroom as functional décor.

Love the lighting options, night mode, the simple controls, and controls layout. The top tank snaps into place seamlessly. It is also easy to remove, refill from the top, and replace. Comes with a handy handle for ease of transport, and attached mini-brush to help with cleaning.

Function (9/10) – Functions as you would expect a humidifier would function, but packed with additional features that may be useful for some. I particularly liked that there was a built-in humidistat and auto-mode.

The Myst humidifier has helped to keep my room within the ideal 30-50% humidity range, compared to the sub 20’s it was before. I would have liked the auto-mode to allow us to choose a humidity level, since it defaults to 60% which may not be everyone’s comfort zone.

App integration/controls would’ve been a nice bonus for this relatively pricey unit. The unit does come with a remote that works as expected. It also has an essential oil compartment, though I have not used that, for my cat’s sake.

Depending on what settings you use, the environment, and for how long, you may need to refill the tank daily or more often. Warm Mist does drain the water faster as well. The auto-shutoff feature comes in handy for this, though I’ve made it a habit to fill the tank before bed as a precaution.

Just a note also about the Warm Mist feature – please cater your expectations on just how “warm” the mist is. At least on my machine, it works perfectly, and blows out a warm mist. That was one of the primary reasons I got this model – for the warm or cool mist option.

It may take the unit a little while to heat up, especially if it’s winter and you’re putting in cold water. However, don’t be expecting boiling steam-levels of heat. I’d argue that is actually a good thing, especially if you have a young one or pet in the same room.

Cleaning (7/10) – If you are using anything besides distilled water, expect to have to clean the unit relatively regularly. I use tap water that’s not very hard, but have still found mineral deposit buildup even after just a single day’s use.

The buildup will mostly appear on the bottom of the removable tank, as well as the base unit’s well. I have tried using the demineralization cartridges, and while I did notice a little less buildup, there was still more than enough that I would want to clean often.

On the bright side, the buildup usually wipes away easily enough, or with some light brushing or scrubbing. However, long term, I imagine the unit will need some deep cleaning, and there are definitely harder-to-reach areas.

Noise Levels (9/10) – This unit is quiet. Like really really quiet. I had originally thought I could replace my white-noise maker with this, but the sound it emits while operating is barely noticeable, even in a quiet bedroom.

Do note that it does make an occasional clicky/poppy sound which is more noticeable. However even as a light sleeper, it has not significantly disrupted my sleep. If anything the more humid air has helped improve my sleep quality.

Customer Service – Wanted to include this separately. I had a great customer service experience with the folks there (not Miko), after registering my humidifier, and reaching out about a concern regarding the (at the time unknown) buildup I noticed.

They went above and beyond to make sure my concerns were addressed. US-based, native English speaking customer service that actually cares for the customer and stands by their products was a pleasant surprise.

I’ve had this for a few weeks and have been quite pleased. We do not live in a particularly dry area of the country, but in winter, with the forced air furnace running, the air in our 1500 sq ft split-level house gets quite dry.

I bought one of these for the first floor, assuming I would probably need to get second one if it was not adequate for two floors. So far, a single unit has worked fine, keeping our home at 35% relative humidity.

It has three output levels, and we find that the second level is adequate. Pros:1. Very easy to fill. Just lift our the water container and fill it in the sink. The container is well balanced and easy to remove and install with the handle.

Filled, the container weighs slightly more than a gallon of milk. The unit will run for about 12+ hours on a full tank, set at output level 2. 2. Very quiet, even at highest output level. 3. Venting port is adjustable and has two outlets so you can direct the mist.

4. Settings can be adjusted from the front panel or the remote. The remote is easy to learn and use, and especially handy if the unit is on the floor. Minor cons:1. There is a humidity indicator on the front panel, but it reads high (it reads the humidity at the unit which, of course, is near the mist).

I use a ThermoPro TP50 hygrometer to monitor the room humidity). 2. Some reviewers report that the unit creates a bit (or lot) of powdery substance that accumulates on nearby surfaces. That is a natural problem if you have hard water.

Our water from Lake Ontario is naturally soft, so this hasn’t been a problem). If you have hard water, it would make sense to use a water softener. 3. Some reviewers have also reported water accumulating near the unit, especially if it on the floor.

I experienced this at first, but after adjusting the vents it has not been a problem. Verdict: Quiet, effeciant, and user friendly dehumidifier.

The media could not be loaded. I tortured over which humidifier to buy given I really disliked my old one – clunky and awkward, difficult to clean, etc. I also wanted both warm and cold mist yet didn’t want to have to buy bottles of distilled water which I’ve seen required when using cold sonic mist.

The Myst seemed to fit the bill and I was pleased with my purchase: reasonably priced, good-looking, quiet, adjustable mist, auto setting, warm steam that isn’t scalding, and easy to fill and clean. Though I still wasn’t sure about bottle vs.

filtered water I used filtered tap hoping it wouldn’t be an issue down the road and I wished the numbers weren’t lit at night but I just turned it around. A week after my purchase I got a CALL FROM THE COMPANY to see if I had any questions – Ummm – WHAT? Who does this?! Well they do and it was SO HELPFUL and appreciated! They were patient and kind and answered all my questions, even walking me through how to use all the features of the unit including making it COMPLETELY DARK at night while still emitting steam (the video shows this)! They also sent me demineralization cartridges that just drop in the unit to help prevent mineral buildup which makes bottled water a thing of the past.

I even tried the colored breathing lights which I thought I would never use – I love, love, LOVE this unit and all its features and I KNOW this company BACKS THEIR PRODUCT!.

Works well at humidifying a medium sized room. It does get a small amount of pink mold after a while even when the lights are left on or it is disassembled and dried. The only three things that could be better are: 1.

The tube where the mist goes up has a plastic piece at the bottom that prevents it from being cleaned because the inside cannot be reached either from the bottom or top. I assume this is to prevent anything that is dropped into the tube from reaching the transducer.

2. The mist cannot be directed very well. it does not matter where the mist is aimed by rotating the disk at the top. It goes almost straight up. 3. The fan should be stronger. The mist does not completely evaporate while is is falling, but does not appear to wet surfaces.

The unit is built well and works better than any other ultrasonic humidifier I have had.

The main reason I bought this unit was because I had a bad experience with a room humidifier in the past with mold. It was very hard to clean mold out of crevices. This unit claims to be designed with less chance of mold trapped in crevices via the sanitation lights and the design doesn’t have hard it impossible to reach crevices.

Secondly the unit performs well in my bedroom. I own several guitars and I live in Chicago where the winters can be brutal. Guitars need to be in 35-50% humidity. So far it’s doing a great job of maintaining although we haven’t had frigid temps yet.

I like the blue lights. It makes a great night light. It’s also very easy to clean. Very satisfied this far.

One star because I like the minimal aesthetic of this modern-looking humidifier. I have had it for a little more than a month and there are two main issues. The first, as others have mentioned, is that the product has an extremely bright blue light (sort of like UV) built in that can never be turned off or dimmed while the unit is on.

This light is supposed to be doing the cleaning. On the first night with on it, we could not sleep because the light from the unit was literally illuminating half of the bedroom. I really need the unit on while sleeping to help with my sinuses, so I ended up using a pillow case wrapped around the base to block this light.

The second and most important issue is that this is definitely not a self-cleaning/minimal clean humidifier. Each day I’m using it, I am getting pinkish red sediment the stains the inside and leaves a ring in the base where the water sits.

I don’t know what this is, and now am cleaning the unit daily, which is more work than previous humidifiers (which were not advertised as “stay clean” units) required. The way the water container is designed, it can’t be taken fully apart, and now I have this pink build-up in areas I cannot access to clean.

Given I don’t know what it is, this makes me uncomfortable. Overall, I would not recommend and I will be attempting to get a refund to buy something else.

I am loving my HumeXL Pro warm and cold humidifier. The function buttons are user friendly. The Warm option really makes a difference, without it I can feel the temperature get surprisingly colder. It is great that I can turn off the led light and the backlights for the control panel also go off.

This is great for someone using it in their bedroom. I like knowing what the humidity level is in the room and being able to set it to the level I want and forget about it, or you can set a timer. It has 3 intensity settings to meet your needs.

My only issue is when I lifted the tank to fill it quite a bit of water leaked onto the floor. I have a smaller pure humidifier that has the same type tank and when I lift it it does not leak.

I received the product a week ago. Since then, I’ve used it on both warm and cool settings. The warm setting heats our bedroom without having to turn the heat up. The air is warm and a little humid, but great overall.

In using the cool setting, our bedroom has a fresh, but clean smell. The mist is powerful on either setting. I use tap water but will be moving to distilled water to help keep the filter cleaner. The unit is quiet and I’m a light sleeper.

I would highly recommend purchasing this item for all bedrooms and main gathering spaces in your home. Pair this product with the Pure Halo Air Purifier and your family will feel and sleep better.

Not sure if this humidifier is worth it based on the amount of white residue it leaves on everything around it. And that was after just cleaning and disinfecting it. I haven’t seen any other reviewers really mention this yet but I’ve only had it 2 weeks and it’s excessive.

There is apparently an accessory you can get for it that reduces the amount of white “dust” it puts out but I haven’t found it yet, not in store. Going to try to purchase online and see if it helps. Otherwise, very easy to use and clean in my opinion.

People say it’s noisy but I personally think it’s pretty quiet. I do enjoy some background sound so the occasional gurgles and drips don’t bother me. I agree with another reviewer that I dislike that the green light (they call a “night light”.

) stays on even when water has run out and it shuts off. It does last all night and then some though, even running on the highest output setting. Also, I purchased the lavender Vicks vapo pads and they haven’t seemed to do anything.

doesn’t really smell like lavender in the room. So it appears they’re just a waste and dry out overnight instead of vaporizing in the water like they’re meant to.

Consider buying prior or the next model, this one has a flaw in the design and it WILL LEAK water. I liked the Vicks Warmer and bought 2 for my home. The old model and this one (version 2). I exchanged this one for the newer model (version 3).

Comparing all 3, I can clearly see the engineering error. This one is the only one that does not have a double wall where you attach the tower. When the water condenses in the tower and start going back to the bottom of the tower it leaks through the area that the tower attaches to the base.

I hope this save you the time of doing all the experiments that I had to do to get to this conclusion. I don’t like returning products and I only did because I was sure about the design flaw.

I own 2 of these humidifiers, and have used them for a couple of years. They are amazing. They are easy to clean and maintain. They refill easily because of the top fill feature. They can be adjusted for varying humidity levels and can be used for warm or cool mist.

They are very quiet, and the display can be turned off at night. The mineral deposit buildup is minimal to non-existent, if the pads are used. The company stands behind their product, and when I had an issue with a defect in the heating element in one of the humidifiers, the company quickly sent a replacement.

This humidifier is the most silent I have found and it’s quiet enough for the bedroom. It’s also super convenient and easy to clean, as you don’t have to reach down and can reach the sink easily to clean it.

If you use it with distilled water or zero water, you won’t get any white dust from it. It’s a great humidifier, unfortunately the remote stopped working after 11 months and the buttons were getting harder and harder to press, but Ella from customer service was wonderful and resolved the issue for me! I hope this unit is available on Amazon again soon, it’s the best humidifier I found!.

Amazing humidifier. I loved it so much I have since purchased four more for my other bedrooms. My father takes a medication that makes him bleed easily so during our super dry winter months it is bad if he gets dried nose/sinuses.

This humidifier prevents him from drying out and bleeding. It has really been a life saver! Love the ease of filling- I tried a couple other humidifiers and dislike the ones I have to remove from the base to fill.

It is also super easy to clean without many crevices to harbor nasty stuff. It is pleasing to look at and doesn’t keep me awake with little glowing lights. Highly recommend!.

The Vicks company offers excellent details on their website to help consumers select the best humidifier for their family. Prior to researching, I assumed that all humidifiers give off a scented mist; specifically, those are referred to as “cool mist” humidifiers (scents optional), whereas the “cool moisture” humidifiers provide moisture without a noticeable mist.

These machines also require filters, which need to be cleaned frequently and replaced often. Basically, however, all humidifiers are designed to add moisture to the sleeping environment so that users get a more restful sleep night’s sleep by keeping the nose and throat moisturized.

Not only is this humidifier great to use in a child’s room but its great for the entire family as well. We recently came down with the flu in our house and all of us were congested and had runny noses as well as all the usual flu symptoms.

I decided to set this humidifier up in the living room where everyone was and within hours we all really felt a difference in our congestion from having it around. I went and picked up some of the VapoPads in the soothing sleepy time and the soothing menthol for this machine as well.

This humidifier helps to added moisture to the air and helps us breathe easier. This humidifier is easy to use too. You just fill the tank with water right from your faucet and the tank is big enough to where I only have to fill it about every 24 hours of use.

The filters are cheap to replace and easy to find when needed so that was another big plus. Everyone in our home especially my toddler loves the stars and moon that it projects onto the ceiling at night.

My husband and I had Covid 19. We felt he needed moisture in the air, so we purchased this vaporizer. Very easy to set up a, and see the mist coming out so you know it’s working. After a few days I notice my house is just totally covered in this white dust.

You can learn lots about this humidifier just by looking at the box. It’s very versatile. The vapor comes out really well and you can adjust the level of mist you want. I’ve used it as a diffuser so far by just putting the oil directly in the water.

It has made the area smell good. There’s a space for a Vicks vapor pad which would make it really easy to use when you have a cold. There’s lots of different colors you can set it to. I could see a sick kid really liking this feature and making them not as bothered to have a humidifier in their room.

I would definitely use distilled water with it and also make sure to clean it regularly with vinegar. It’s easy to clean too.

I recently tried the Vicks humidifier and am very happy with it! This set is the perfect size to use and store away. It’s design makes it easy to use while being effective. The instructions included make it easy to understand, set up and use.

The size makes it easy to clean and carry. I have been using it at night to help with my seasonal allergies. I believe with consistent use it has helped with my overall sleep quality and allergy symptoms.

Great warm mist humidifier. What I like about warm mist humidifiers is that the steam naturally rises into the air, unlike cool mist humidifiers where the cool mist drops after being blown out the top, sometimes making the area near the humidifier damp or even wet depending on where you place it.

However, cool mist humidifiers use less energy and are a little safer if they are accidentally knocked over as they do not contain hot water, and don’t forget about the hot steam rising from the warm mist humidifier.

That could be potentially dangerous for curious kids and pets. With that being said, I really like this humidifier. It has a huge opening for filling, and it breaks down easily for cleaning. And that warm mist in the winter is just sooo nice.

It’s good for small to medium sized rooms. It runs about 24hrs on low and about 10-11hrs on high, however low just doesn’t cut it when the air is really dry, but that will be the case with any small humidifier, cool or warm.

Excellent quality product It’s powerful and you can also add a vapour pad or essential oils to make you breathe easier. I like the big water tank that is easy to lift, lasts for hours and the whole thing can be dismantled in seconds.

It’s easy to give it a clean/wipe on each use. My little ones frequently suffer with a dry cough at night. I put this in their room and it really helped them to get a good nights sleep. It has an automatic shut off feature and I don’t have to worry about it once I turn it on.

Another nice feature is being able to choose from a low and high feature. There is also a small door near the base of the unit, which easily opens and here you can insert a Vicks rented pad (disposable) which lasts up to 8 hours.

I would recommend this product to anyone with a dry house especially in the winter due to cold dry air giving claggy throats and stuffy noses or breathing issues.

I wrote a lengthy review describing the problem but for some reason Target can’t upload it. In a nutshell- this humidifier gave off the worst fumes I have ever smelled. I have owned many different steam humidifiers in the past.

I prefer them over the ultrasonic ones (I have many of those too) because it doesn’t blast whatever is in the water into the air. It’s normal for steam humidifiers to have a bit of fume during the first run but the fumes from the VIcks humidifier is so noxious that my kid woke up 2x the first night coughing and asking for water because his throat hurts from the smell.

My whole second floor smells like the fumes from the humidifier. I moved it to the back of the den, near my back door, with the door open to air out the fumes but the humidifier is still creating strong fumes.

My husband who normally never smells anything kept saying the house smells like bleach.

was pleasantly surprised at how well this humidifier works! The noise level is easily ignored (it is not loud, but if you were to concentrate on it, you’d hear it). It holds a good amount of water, and the response time between the modes is very quick.

I enjoy using this and it has helped me sleep better and I wake up with my throat not dry and scratchy. It is compact and sleek looking. The rubber legs prevent it from slipping around your table surface.

In love with this humidifier! I tent to keep my room On high temperature as I like it little warmer, but I was noticing due to dry and hot atmosphere I observed bad hairfalls I added this little miracle box in my room an I am noticing within 1 week it was lesser in my comb.

every persons problems are different and there are different ways to treat it. It worked in my case. very happy. really finding a good product for a good price isn’t easy but this one was mind blowing this is a great humidifier that I would definitely recommend.

The reset light keeps switching on, despite having new water and other similar devices running from the same outlet just fine (we tested separately too). I have no idea why. Also — the reset light is red with something wavy like steam, it took a day to realize this was a reset light and not a light warning of hot steam.

Design flaw there. When I got the manual and realized this is the reset light, I tried everything suggested — refill it, make sure its level, wait 5 minutes — still the reset light switches back on and steam stops within a few minutes of starting.

Junk product, will be returning which is very frustrating. I got this for a sick child, and cannot use. I got it from Target Drive Up because I didn’t want to go in the store. Now to return it, I have to go in the store anyway.

Avoid buying this as it looks like many others have similar issues with it.

Received my new humidifier via Amazon today. Had read great reviews about it. Had high hopes. It came with the worst owner’s manual ever. No quick start set up instructions. And the instructions that are there are vague and seem to sk8p pants.

I figured out how to get mine assembled, although I still have an extra part for the extension misters. I’m assuming it’s a choice between the two but the owners manual doesn’t mention that. Then, there’s the F’king lousy directions there.

I cannot figure out how to get it to do warm/hot mist. It did start misting but it’s making my bedroom a bit more chilly. I’d say it’s a lousy POS and will be going back unless someone from their company can tell me how to get the hot mist.

DON’T BUY IT. THAT’S THE BOTTOMLINE.

We use tap water and there is no issue with it affecting the performance of this vaporizer. However, we do have a water softener and our water is soft as soft can be (zero grains per gallon of hardness).

The only complaint I have with this is that it is not “whisper quiet”, as advertised. If the dial is set on maximum, the vapor that is made in the bottom of the unit exits the unit on the top. Between the bottom and the top is a “chimney” to make a path for the vapor to go up and out.

The problem is that some of the vapor condenses back to droplets and those droplets fall back down into the water reservoir in the bottom. When the droplets fall into the water there is a dripping noise that is very annoying.

To avoid the droplets and the dripping noise we must turn the dial on the front down to about 50% and then it gets quiet. So, this unit can be “whisper quiet”, but only at 50% capacity. I reached out to Vick’s customer service to inform them of this problem and to ask for a solution and their response was (and I summarize), it is what it is, there is not other solution to avoiding the dripping noise other that turning is down and reducing its output.

The box came mangled and already opened. The sample vapo pad was gone. The machine looked used already. I don’t know why BuyBuyBaby does this. Why send something that is clearly damaged or already used? There is absolutely no quality control.

And this is not even the first time that I have received opened or used items. This has happened on multiple occasions. I have received used baby bottles and used baby head pillow. It’s so gross and unsanitary, especially in these COVID times.

I wish they would care more about the babies who will potentially use these unsanitary items. Will not be purchasing from BBB in the future. I will take my money elsewhere.

I’ve had this Vicks Cool Relief Filter Free Cool Mist Humidifier for a few weeks now and absolutely love it! It works really well. The tank holds a large amount of water and when I only run the humidifier at night time, the tank last for two to three nights, before needing refilled.

I really like that this humidifier doesn’t require a filter, that I’d have to remember to clean and/or change when needed. I also love that I can use the VapoPads or liquid, in the humidifier, to help with stuffiness and congestion.

Another great feature is the humidity control, so I can control how much moisture it puts out. Also, the tank is very easy to fill and clean (cleaning is supposed to be done weekly, per instructions).

Overall, I am very happy with this humidifier and I believe it is definitely worth buying!.
