A mid handicap in golf is generally between an 8 and a 12. This means that a mid handicapper is someone who is still learning the game and is not yet a scratch golfer. There are a few different types of golf balls that are designed for mid handicappers.
These balls typically have a softer core and a thicker cover. This combination provides more spin and control for the mid handicapper.
20 Best Golf Balls For Mid Handicapper
1. TaylorMade TP5 Golf Balls – White
5 Layer construction
New larger, more reactive Tri-Fast Core retains energy, acting like a spring upon release for added ball speed
Speed-Layer System comprised of increasingly stiff layers produces more ball speed, control in the wind and more spin around the greens
High Flex Material (HFM) acts like a tightly wound spring that builds energy and rebounds quickly to generate more ball speed
Dual-Spin Cover increases groove interaction for more greenside spin
New Tour Flight Dimple Pattern Our most aerodynamic dimple pattern ever is now producing explosive carry distances. This unique design features a 322-dimple pattern engineered to deliver improved aerodynamics.
It features a shallow overall dimple to reduce drag during ascent, with steep walls to trap air during descent in order to maintain lift and keep the ball airborne for longer. 5-Layer Construction The key to achieving enhanced speed without negatively affecting spin performance comes from TaylorMade s proprietary 5-layer ball construction.
Including a larger and more reactive Tri-Fast Core that delivers maximum carry and low drag and a Dual-Spin Cover that features an ultra-soft, highly durable cast urethane cover, TP5 offers complete tee-to-green performance without sacrifice.
The ultimate result is a ball that promotes a fast launch, maximum carry distances and a steep angle of descent for extra stopping power especially on long irons. Speed-Layer System The Speed-Layer System is comprised of four increasingly stiff layers to produce more ball speed.
The result is more carry distance off the tee, more control in the wind, and more spin around the greens. High-Flex Material (HFM) TP5 features a material called HFM (High-Flex Material), delivering higher ball speeds through a greater rebound effect.
HFM acts like a tightly wound spring that builds energy and rebounds quickly, generating more ball speed.

The DUO family of golf balls has been engineered to deliver the distance you need, the feel you love and the consistency you demand.
Being 6’7” with long arms I generate a lot of spin even with a smooth tempo. I’m a 9 handicap and my ego said to try a tour value ball (Q-Star tour) in efforts to try to pick up more ball speed with a 90-93 mph swing.
It lasted 4 holes before I knew Duo Soft + is the best ball for my game. The feel and precision gives me more confidence then using any other ball, and I’ve tested them all. I’m a medium length hitter, so I see no distance gains using a firmer compression ball so the feel is most important to my game.
Also got my first ace with it. We are now bound by blood.
My go to ball is Srixon XV. I tried this ball one day when going to a new course that was sure to be extra wet and narrow. The ball did fly quite far off the tee for me and was easy to track with the Optix Orange color.
If you are looking for a soft ball, this will most likely fit your needs. My preference is for a more firm feel. On shots to the green this ball would roll out much more than my regular ball. I’m sure I could adapt if I played it more.
The Wilson is soft, flies well and is easy to see. Just not for me. Two balls were plugged and not found. I gave the remaining 10 to someone in the parking lot at the course.

I hit the ball consistently. I think it’s because they have a great feel & very easy to hit. I tend to have a lot more confidence, when I play with these balls. I’ve been using them for years and I will continue.
My favorite are the white crystal. They are so easy to find. I can always pick out mine immediately. I purchased the multicolored, for something different.
I’ve got the vivid colors and have tried the volvik crystals. I’ve had luck with both of em. Let’s keep this quiet. Don’t want to many to find out about these. Picked up 15 more yards and always in the middle.

The e12 CONTACT has been equipped by Bridgestone engineers with the next generation in contact improvement. It is designed for players looking for a combination of even more length and forgiveness combined with an exceptionally soft feel and improved short game performance.
The real game changer of the ball is the new Contact Force Dimples design. Each dimple has a unique structure with a raised area in the center and an outer portion that slows horizontal rotation during flight, reducing sideways spin in the flight phase.
The raised area allows 38 percent more contact with the clubface at impact than conventional dimples patterns. As a result, energy transfer is more efficient and core activation is improved, according to Bridgestone.
The result is faster ball speed and more length due to less deviation with each club in the bag. For pitches and chips, the dimples pattern provides more spin and control due to the longer contact time with the clubface and the resulting increased friction.
On putts, the increased contact also positively impacts performance with more consistent results. In addition, a new, softer core contributes to a significantly improved feel on all shots. The Bridgestone e12 CONTACT also has a cover made of a new high-performance polymer material with added surfactant.
This combination gives the ball more thrust and a higher initial speed after impact.
This is an honest review from a very average golfer. I am able to play once a week but have no time to practice due to work/life constraints. I need a ball to make my shots go straight. Bridgestone e12 Contact seems to work for what I need it for.
I got straight shots with my old driver and long, straight shots with a Cobra F7+. Good response with irons and wedges. Just my opinion, this seems to be a lively ball for putting. Good response off the putter face.
I guess I can see what people mean about not being a “pro-level” ball, but I’m not good enough to know that kind of feel anyway. If the ball is in-play and I’m not losing balls, I’m happy. The Bridgestone e12 Contact is better than I am.
My new favorite golf ball. Worth the price for me. It’s the go-to ball I’ll be using from now on. Just a recreational golfer, by the way. Don’t even really keep score. Just doing it for fun and exercise.
It’s a family game. Spending time with my sister, a new golfer, and grand-nephew. Seems a durable ball, I will add.
I am a big fan of these balls. I have used the E12’s by Bridgestone for a while as I feel that they provide a consistent feel and flight for me as a relatively high handicapper (low-mid 20’s). Being a higher handicapper, I ordered the red balls to assist with following the flight of the ball against the sky and inevitably help finding the ball resting in the longer grass.
This has helped a lot, especially in thicker rough courtesy of La Nina. Every time I head to the course I get the inevitable ‘The Crows will love them’ statement. So far water has accounted for 2 and Crows none.
Great feel, consistent shape and distance with quite good feel around the greens. I like these a lot.
I am 71, and a 14 index. I play twice a week. My drives have tapered off from 230-ish to less than 200 yd. over the past few years. I have mostly played ProV and similar balls the past 5 years. Most have a compression of 90 or so.
I have researched the pros and cons of different ball compressions relative to swing speeds and decided to do my own testing. Today I played 3 balls for 6 holes each. My swing speed is 85 mph or less.
Don’t let your ego get in the way if your swing has slowed down with age, or if it’s just slow to start with. The Wilson Staff Professional is a 60 compression. The Bridgestone E12, a 50 compression.
Callaway Super soft is a 40 compression. Driving averages were close. The Bridgestone E12 was the longest at 210. The Callaway and the Wilson averaged 203. The Wilson has a bit more spin as my fade was there for each drive.
The E12 has a nice launch angle and is nothing but straight, straight and straighter. They market it as a straight flight ball and it delivers. The Callaway launches the highest of all and is a little mushy off the driver.
However It produces straight drives and a few slight fades, but alway found the fairway. The Wilson checks up on the green just like a ProV. The Super soft has a very high ball flight and thus drops and stops very well.
The Bridgestone E12 has less spin (keeps it straight I guess) and will check up 12-24 inches from the divot which is acceptable for me. I like the Callaway Super soft, and love watching that super high ball flight.
If you have a faster swing than I do, you will love the Wilson Professional, it plays like a ProV only softer. However, for me, the Bridgestone E12 feels best off of the club, is longer, and is so straight it’s unbelievable.
I didn’t get my drives back to 230, but I did pick up 15 or so yards that were lost, and I hit every fairway with the E12. Also found that the Red Matt color is very easy to track in the air, and find in the fairway or rough.

I’m pretty brand agnostic when it comes to golf. My driver is Taylormade, 3W is Callaway, irons are PXG, wedges are Vokey, putter is Scotty. The same goes for ball. I’ve tried the Pro V1, Pro V1x, -Pro V1x, AVX, TP5 / TP5x, etc.
The Pro V1 is great for the cooler months, where you want a slightly softer feel and more spin around the greens (compared to a TP5x or (-)Pro V1x). The Titleist line is also quite a bit more durable than some of the other balls I’ve played – particularly the TP5.
Great ball. There’s a reason it’s been so popular for so many years.
Personalize your balls with up to 3 lines of text, A maximum of 17 characters on each line. The Callaway Supersoft Golf Balls are some of the best-selling golf balls on the market, which should come as no surprise.

The tour ball for the rest of us. Lower compression provides a softer feel and more feel & spin control for golfers with average swing speeds. Soft urethane cover gives you the control you need from 100 yards in.
Tour performance soft feel golf ball. Tired of expensive Chrome Soft Try these.
The price of golf balls are expensive so I wanted to try something a little more affordable to see if they made much of a difference to my level of play (18 handicap). Firstly, I would say when you try a direct to consumer ball the shipping costs should be front and centre as this obviously changes the price per ball ratio.
The fact that the shipping costs is not shown until later on in the process after you have already provided your personal details is annoying. Shipping was free when you spend over £75 I think. So if you are buying on your own that is a little high (I ended up splitting the order with a friend).
The balls arrived in good time (a few days) I liked the recycled cardboard packaging and the design. The balls looked well finished and I liked the logo. The quality of looks compared to any of the major brands.
I used the ball for 18 holes and came away pleased with the purchase. I didn’t notice a drop-off in distance and they felt fine off irons and woods. On putting they felt a little firmer than I’m used to, a couple of my early puts raced by the hole however I quickly adjusted.
I have searched unsuccessfully for a standout golf ball that guarantees a high ball flight and discernible extra distance that consistently separates it from the competition. Far easier to find one that wallops the competition out sight on price – it’s the Seed! Unless you are golf snob is there any good reason for playing another ball if the performance is ‘flat’ across the spectrum of what is on offer? Golf shops push the expensive brands because they have a bigger margin.
They don’t care what ball you play with as long as you lose plenty of them!.
The TP5 golf ball from TaylorMade features four increasingly stiff layers that help you deliver higher ball speed and greater rebound at impact. With bold printed graphics, you can make sure that each shot you take is backed by your love for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
A great valued golf ball for golfers who want distance, durability and feel. Soft feel Surlyn cover golf ball. This rock won’t break your hands or the bank. And it’ll last (at least until you lose ’em.
) So forget about lake balls or second hand golf balls, play a new Seed golf ball for less.
Such as the type of terrain you are playing on, the club you are using, and your own personal preferences. However, some golfers recommend that mid handicappers use golf balls that are designed for more control, such as Pro V1s or Titleist NXTs.
Others suggest that mid handicappers should use golf balls that are designed for more distance, such as the Callaway SuperSoft or the TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2. 0. Ultimately, it is up to the individual golfer to experiment with different types of golf balls to see which one gives them the best results.
