20 Best Car Security Camera When Parked (2023 Updated)
There are a few different types of car security cameras when parked. Some are designed to be placed on the dashboard or windshield, while others can be mounted on the outside of the car. There are also wireless options that can be placed anywhere in or around the car.
The most important factor to consider when choosing a car security camera is its field of view. You’ll want to make sure that the camera can see all of the surrounding area, including the front, back, and sides of the car.
You’ll also want to consider the resolution of the camera, as well as its storage capacity.

I got my dash cam and had it installed in about 10 minutes It came with everything I needed to discretely hid the wires. The little wire retainers aren’t all that good, but I was able to hide the wires without needing them.
I opted for the refurbished unit since it was less expensive and still had a one year warranty. more bang for the buck. My unit should have audio, and it isn’t working. They help center has tried to text me through troubleshooting.
but it’s pretty basic. It either works or it doesn’t. No ‘settings’ or buttons to toilet on/off. That being said. the camera quality is superb and seems very fluid. I’m extremely happy with my purchase even if the sound doesn’t work.
I would just end up hearing my radio anyway.
I don’t know where the complaints are coming from. I got my Nexar camera pretty quickly we ordered for my birthday early. Because we didn’t know when it would arrive. I got it within two weeks and, I have been able to connect to the Bluetooth wifi just fine.
I had to google the Nexars password because, I don’t remember getting it when setting it up. Luckily it was on google and, I have been fine ever since. The only complaint I have is they should have color vision and, black and white version as well.
Someone passed me illegally and, the cop couldn’t get the license plate number. He said it was cause of all the lights. Other than that the Nexar is pretty awesome I love it and, love it uploads to my phone as well!.
We bought one for each vehicle and it was a little hard to get them both synced to both phone. One was easy and we are very happy with the quality. We have the interior camera aimed out the rear window to record any rear ending accidents.
I am currently looking for a longer cord that will accommodate this so we can better position it. (A longer cord would also be great if new parents want to keep an eye on backwards facing baby). Also getting to the interior camera recording was a little confusing.
Hopefully in the future both cameras can be viewed at once on phone while recording. Overall we are extremely happy with this camera.

I bought the Vantrue for my Uber car based on the advice of many internet reviews. It’s a good item which delivers good clear fromt facing “dash cam” footage and very clear interior shots even under IR lights.
The only problem is positioning it so the interior doesn’t feature the back of the rearview mirror or a big close up of the driver’s head. You WILL need to experiment with the positioning of it to get it right.
As an Uber driver, I really want the interior cam as swcurity so i turn it off between rides. This can slowly move the position of the camera up or down so be aware of that. Apart from that. great value for money and even better with the SIM upgrade to 256.
I like the dual-camera feature. It was difficult for me to figure out placement. but I figured it out. i wish i could control the volume. i most definitely will be getting a portable power source for the parking feature.
Camera stores the footage but that’s the only source. Some other brands have wifi storage so they can view footage while away from the car. I have to go TO the car to see my footage. Whoever’s assignment it was to write that owner’s manual, you.
aced it!!.
This is a great investment. I work for a ride share company and it gives me and my passengers a sense of safety knowing everything inside and out is being recorded including sound. I like that you can turn off interior camera and or sound for your more private moments that you don’t need recorded.
I still can’t figure out the parking mode but I’m working on it. Overall I recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality dash cam.

Arrived way sooner than expected. I recently had a car stolen and with it my previous dash cam was stolen and the car wasn’t recovered. So I ordered a new car and I need a new dash-cam. I placed the order with free ground shipping and it was at my door 2 days later.
I still haven’t taken delivery of my new car, so the dash cam is mounted in the rental car using the cigarette lighter adapter. I also ordered the hard wire kit so that it can be permanently mounted in the new car.
I went from a 2 channel unit to 3 and the resolution has increased as well. The previous dash cam proved useful so I was willing to spend a bit more. I also prefer a super capacitor over a lithium battery with the fire risk, no matter how small the risk.
So far very happy.
After many attempts I finally got it right. The reviews that Samsung SD Cards “ARE SAFE,” and “Sandisk ARE NOT” ARE LIES! My Sandisk works perfect and my Samsung was destroyed! However, the Hyundai 128GB works great! Using 3 mode viewing on my dashcam screen sure is nice, and the IR activation, and night mode make it EVEN BETTER! Anyone busts into your vehicle THEY ARE BEING RECORDED!!! SWEET! Naturally the front is always running and the rear as well.
No chance someone will victimize me IN ANY WAY AND NOT BE RECORDED DOING IT! It IS “a little high” but not nearly as costly as the best known brands they are competing against, AND TGIS HAS MORE FEATURES THAN MOST OF THEM AS WELL.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 5 STARS!.

Reviews From Real Customers
When I first purchased from BlackBoxMyCar as well as from Amazon (BlackBoxMyCar was the selling merchant) in 2018 about 4+ years ago, there were several major purchases consisting of 2 Thinkware F800PRO front/rear dashcams, 3 Cellink NEO batteries for hardwiring to my Audi S6 and Audi Q7 vehicles.
I am not super comfortable hardwiring my vehicles but with Youtube videos from BlackBoxMyCar and other content creators, I went ahead to purchase accessories like specific hardwiring kits to work between the ThinkWare dashcams and the Cellink NEO batteries.
No issues encountered and the 2 F800PRO + 3 Cellink NEOs worked perfectly for the last 4+ years. In the last 3 weeks (June 2022), I decided to upgrade the 2 ThinkWare F800PRO front/rear dashcams with 2 ThinkWare U1000 (4K) front/rear (2K) dashcams + a radar accessory for the U1000, as well as a new ThinkWare Q800PRO bundle as my second front and rear (interior) cam to upgrade an older F800 that I had installed as my second dashcam; more to allow me to record the interior facing the driver side window.
The upgrades went flawlessly. I have to give credit to the BlackBoxMyCar support team. I had the fortunate occasion to do an online chat with Grayson on 3 separate times and all of them exceeded my expectations.
I always have high expectations for any customer / technical service representative and Grayson (and his team) easily met that goal. He was knowledgeable and professional during our chat interactions.
I am also pleased with the ThinkWare and Cellink NEO brands as they have proven to be reliable over the last 4+ years since making those huge purchases with BlackBoxMyCar. In reality I have been using ThinkWare since 2016 with zero issues.
Now the U1000 parking mode through the Cellink NEO battery life is extended and with the radar accessory, the dashcam parking mode can be configured to run even longer. Together with ThinkWare Cloud, my vehicles are now protected from any unforeseen situations.
Thanks!!.
I was interested in installing two dash cams in my two vehicles and found Blackboxmycar online. After studying the various technologies, manufacturers and videos I decided on the Thinkware U1000 (2-channel from and rear cameras) with the Radar module (for park mode) along with a Powercell 8 backup battery while the car is parked for longer periods of time.
My concern was video quality and reliably capturing events while on the road and while away from the car. The Thinkware unit is definitely able to produce very clear and smooth videos at 60 FPS. The unit itself is actually quite small and stealthy when mounted on the windshield so I really like that as well.
One of the deficiencies of most dash cams is there is no video event coverage for the two sides of your car. I recently learned that Thinkware does offer a multiplexor unit that allows for adding up to 5-channels (front, back, inside and the two sides).
While using the multiplexor the video screen is split up into multi-views and saved in one file. I really like that they offer this but unfortunately Thinkware does not currently offer this on their highest end dash cam.
I hope Thinkware realizes that this would be a great add on to the Thinkware U1000 for those that want full vehicle coverage. I have given this dashcam a rating of 4 stars due to this lack of support.
The optional extended wiring harness to accommodate the long power runs back to the battery in my car was a perfect length. My biggest worry was dressing the data and power cables from the windshield to the back of the car.
The numerous videos found on their site demonstrating how to dress the cables gave me the confidence to do it myself. It was actually very easy and not scary to do so I would encourage anyone that is reasonably handy to go for it but to first watch some of the installation videos.
I would also buy the inexpensive trim tool they sell to make dressing the cables much easier without damaging interior liners. I did have a bad backup battery upon arrival and the company was very good in getting another one sent right out to me.
They provided all the necessary paperwork and shipping label. As a general approach dashcams are really designed to capture events and not to regularly review hundreds of generated files. This is a surveillance recorder and as such is meant to automatically provide proof of an event when required.
There is also a manual button on the Thinkware U1000 allowing to manually record an event All of these event files are separated out and placed into a Manual Folder of the dash cam app making it easy to quickly retrieve and view.
There are other event folders easily accessible which include both parking and motion events. As a final note, I have connected this dash cam to a mobile phone hotspot to the cloud. It was not quite as intuitive as it could be but I did get it connected.
Unless you have built in wifi in your car with a strong internet connection I am not sure this is the best approach to capturing and storing your files over the time proven SD Card. Though it sounds like a good security feature should someone break into the car and steals the dash cam I question its overall reliability.
It came really fast in perfect condition and was exactly what I ordered. Perfect! The camera was relatively easy to install and works great. The voice talks a little too much but it is nice to know that it is working every time I start and turn off my car.
I can’t see license plates with the night view while its parked but I can view the cars really well so. The images during the day are amazingly clear. The parking mode catches everything, even when the cats set off the outdoor lights and every neighbor coming and going.
My only issue is that the sd card is really hard to get in and out. So far it’s great, but I have only been using it for about a week. I’ll update it after a few months go by or if I catch something good.
My car, after I installed it started to automatically blink a red light in the dash when parked I don’t know how it happened but I looked it up and it said it was the alarm system showing it was activated.
Honda CR-V 2022. I have the front and rear camera, I installed myself only issue was I was scared to get around the airbag in the side window. Everything else the lining pops off really easy and right back in.
I used a soft wooden spatula to get the wires in. There are plenty of helpful videos on youtube. I got the fuse taps from my local autozones they were the low profile small ones just an fyi you will also need 2 matching fuses to the ones you are tapping.
Good luck! my list of supplies (masking tape, dry erase marker to mark window where I wanted the cameras, sturdy wire and string to pull it through the wire cover in the back hatch door, wooden spatula, and outdoor velcro m3 tape to replace the m3 tape it comes with because I wanted to be able to detach it easier if I need to.
, two wire taps, two matching fuses, and a fuse tester) Use accessory fuse to the extra outlets like the cigarette lighter for the accessory wire as long as it shows off while car was off. The fuse puller was in my fuse box on the lid under the hood.
My suggestion is wear knee pads and do this in a covered area.

I reached out to TDS and chose the Viofo A129 Pro Duo kit for my GTI, as it seems to deliver the most value at the price point. The communication with the team has been great overall at all stages. The installation was smooth, took less time than advertised and the hardwiring is almost invisible within the vehicle.
Unfortunately, the team initially used a non-standard power cable for the installation, which caused issues with the device detecting power states and therefore switching to different modes. However, once i identified the issue after a few days, the TDS team called the vehicle in and rewired it, which fixed the issues.
Since then the device has worked fully automatically without issue. The picture quality is good, though exposure adjustment might be necessary depending on your specific environment, especially to make sure you have enough visibility in low-light environments.
A surprise was that because Viofo is a Chinese company, their smartphone app did trigger some security measures on my phone. A situation like this always raises some eyebrows, but the app is not required for anything other than specific applications when you really want to quickly review or copy footage from the cam to your phone.
It’s also worth mentioning that the team included the hardwire kit and a basic memory card with the device for free, which is a nice touch.
I wanted a 4K camera for a good price point and this one fit the bill. I usually buy Korean and this one is a deviation from that but research indicated it was a solid brand. Installation was somewhat tedious due to the cable diameter but all cables hidden and I like how the rear camera has a 90 at the main unit and with GPS you can route both wires straight up into head liner.
Setup is easy but the app has trouble connecting and requires several tries before it connects at times. Lame. Screen allows for setup though and once set, it runs at startup and works as advertised.
Video quality is excellent and for the money, you can’t beat this little unit. FYI I used a high quality Sandisk sd card and have had no problems with capture.
This dashcam randomly stopped recording any footage after 1:54pm on a saturday and my car was vandalized literally a day and a half later and i have nothing to show the cops for it. This was no case of human error/messing with buttons as the car had been parked and left alone for hours when it suddenly ceased recording.
i didn’t know until i unplugged it to go pull footage and found absolutely nothing from the day of.

The video recording quality of this camera depends on which compatible nextbase dashcam you purchase, as well as the recording settings that you have. The maximum video quality on this device is actually only 1920 x 1080p 30fps with its other setting being 720p 30fps.
So make sure you check the user manual of your nextbase dashcam first to see what settings you can have. I’m using this rear camera with a nextbase 522gw running in 1440p 30fps, which means that the rear camera only records at 720p 30fps.
However this is still clear enough to see what the passengers in the vehicle behind you is doing, as well as clearly being able to view their number plate. The provided cable is long enough to easily to make it to the rear window of any regular passenger vehicle.
The actual camera ball section is magnetically attached to the mounting system so it allows for the camera direction to be easily changed or attached to a different mounting mechanism. The only downside is that the magnet on the camera is only on the top, which means that the cable attached to the camera, may get in the way in when trying to rotate the camera angle to look in some directions.
I’d been after a rear cam for a while but having the old Nextbase 312GW limited me as this model wasn’t compatible and couldn’t simply be plugged in to my existing cam. I eventually took the plunge and replaced my whole set up, settling on the new Nextbase 622GW.
I hardwired this into my car so it activates as soon as the ignition is engaged, it also enables parking mode when the car is parked up idle. From there on in I could simply just plug in the rear camera and feed the wires back.
The wires are tucked away in the front headlining and down the rubber door seal, fed along the length of the car into the rear and up into the boot via the rubber conduit. It’s discrete as you like and there are no unsightly wires hanging.
To be fair, this isn’t a feature of the cam itself, but I like that it’s an immaculate install. The cam is discrete and is a lot smaller than pictured. It doesn’t obscure my rear windshield and the majority of the time you don’t even notice that it’s there.
The wire feeds neatly up into the boot headlining to give a simple and seamless look with no unsightly wires hanging down. The sticky pad is very durable and sticks to the windshield like glue, I’m not looking forward to having to take it off to transfer when I change my car next year! The magnetic mount is okay and much stronger than I expected, it doesn’t fall off when opening and closing the boot.
It does however rotate slightly with movement so in the first few weeks I was forever having to adjust it to make sure it was straight in order to satisfy my ocd. I eventually stopped this as the very slightly slanted angle that it’s at doesn’t really make much of a difference as it’s only a few degrees, it still captures everything you want it to.
The footage quality is good but it doesn’t always capture the registrations of other vehicles, depending on time of day, lighting, speed travelled at and the speed of any passing vehicles, etc. If it’s right behind you, any reg will be captured, but even above 30mph you struggle to get a reg for anything further away from you.
I’d definitely buy a 4K module if it was brought to the market. Note to Nextbase though – you need to make any future products compatible with previous models! If an updated rear view cam were to be released but couldn’t be used with my 622, there’s no way I’d start again and replace my whole setup.
At £49. 99 it’s slightly overpriced but I’m happy with the quality and the security that it provides. The app seems simple enough to operate and is a major improvement on the cam viewer app for the first gen cams.
Great little camera, but, needs more cable. I installed this in my 2012 Nissan Xterra, which is a mid sized, short wheel base, SUV. My plan, to avoid running the cable near the upper side curtain airbags, was to run from the dash cam, to the nearest a-pillar, down to the floor, and along the kick panels, then back up the rear, and across to the rear camera.
When I got to the rear cargo area, I realized, I was going to be about two feet shy of reaching the center of the rear window. I ended up having to remove all of my upper interior trim, and thread it carefully below the side curtain bags anyway.
An extra few feet of included cable, wouldn’t be that much of a cost difference. And, it’s easier to tuck away extra cable, than try to find an extension on short notice. The picture quality of the camera, paired with my 322GW, is pretty good, the camera has a nice, wide view, and, is easily adjusted.
My concerns going forward, are how well the camera’s magnets will hold position over rough roads and terrain. And, how well the double sided tape will hold to the glass, as it was easily peeled off, and repositioned.
Overall though, aside from having to route the cable where I didn’t want to, the camera seems to be of very good quality, and should serve it’s purpose well.

Not impressed with the video quality, even in clear daylight. The rear cam can’t see at night in parking mode. The interior has good infrared at night, but video is very grainy. The field of view is significantly less than in many other dash cam models.
Instead of front and cabin cam on same unit, they are two separate cameras, which adds wires and takes up space on your windshield (in many states — illegal). I think the cabin cam should be on a 360 rotatable mount.
You can aim it higher or lower, but not turn it toward you more (as you might like to do in the case of a cop or road-rage driver coming to your window). I like that they use tape rather than suction mount.
It was very easy to run the wires and hide behind trim (took 10 minutes). I haven’t done the hardwire yet, but it’s simple. I’ve had no issues with the companion app for viewing. I can use the app to view the camera live (to set it up), to change the settings, and to view the recorded files — but only when it’s connected to my home wifi.
I can’t figure out how to access the files beyond that. But if you want to view using the cloud service, you’ll have to pay for a special device (costly), a SIM card, and monthly data service.
Katrina and the staff at BlackboxMycar are 👍🏼👍🏼! They have a great selection of quality dashcams. I have asked many questions, they are always quick to respond and provide helpful input on selecting the right product.
I purchased a Blackvue dashcam from BBMC a few years ago but needed another one and decided to go with Thinkware. I was underwhelmed with the overall install process and felt the Blackvue app was a lot more user friendly.
Katrina went above and beyond and was extremely helpful with the return process. I’m now running two new sets of the DR750x Plus and am very happy with them. As expected, they were very easy to set up and the Blackvue app is great! Thank you so much to Alex and his staff! They stand behind their products and provide great customer service.
When it comes to dashcams, I will only buy from BBMC!.
Smooth pre-order of unit and excellent communication with Terence after shipment of dashcam delayed 1-day. Received in perfect condition and after installation, Wi-Fi button became stuck (embedded) into the body of the unit after I depressed it.
Very disappointing to say the least. Immediately contacted Blackvue and was referred to BlackboxMyCar (seller). Advised to download, complete and submit DOA form in order to receive RMA label. Informed return/replacement will take @2-3 weeks total.
Unit functions properly otherwise and I am considering whether to keep it. Playback of recordings are very clear. However, when viewing via the Windows microSD Card Reader app, video will occasionally freeze.
Switching from my vehicle’s Wi-Fi network to the dashcam’s Bluetooth “network” for Cloud vs. camera access is cumbersome. Hopefully, Blackvue will develop and release a future software update that streamlines this process.
Default video display setting (3) is slightly dark, but can be adjusted. Volume of installed dashcam is barely audible. It can also be adjusted, but could use an increase in available volume settings.
I’ll provide an update to this review, once I hardwire the dashcam and have a chance to test parking mode functionality.

Reviews From Real Customers
Size and price are small, which is nice, but if you want a dash cam for identification you may want to consider it’s capabilities such as reading a license plate number. Set up could have been smoother.
In other words I needed to contact Garmin customer support to walk me thru it. As with most digital electronics the instructions are not written for someone like me that expects set-up to work slightly less than automatically.
Chat support is not a strong point for me either and thankfully Garmin offers phone support which worked very well. Once installed everything is automatic including a feature, which requires a special cable from Garmin, that will monitor the vehicle while parked with the ignition off.
If the vehicle gets bumped the camera begins recording and sends a text message that something happened. I get lots a text messages and each one has been generated by me opening the door or closing the trunk even when set to it’s lowest sensitivity.
I also question the value of this feature. Unless the vehicle gets bumped from the direction the camera is pointed it will not provide a useful photo. I, of course, may be missing the point. I also find I don’t need or miss not having a video monitor on the dash cam device itself.
When and if I want to look at a video of something that happened while the vehicle was in motion the last thing I should be doing is looking at it while driving. The Mimi II connects, via the Garmin Drive app, to my phone and plays all the Dash Cam videos recorded.
In summary the Garmin Dash Cam Mini II is easy to live with because of it’s very small size and this one feature is far greater than any of it’s faults. The price is easy to love, it’s small and easily moved from one vehicle to another, it works automatically so it’s set it and forget it plus an optional feature provides a level of security when the vehicle parked and unattended.
On the other side the quality of video does not let me read a license plate number when reviewing the dash cam videos in the higher definition format. If it had better video definition for reading numbers and letters it would almost be perfect.
One of the reasons I wanted this dash cam was the automatic video upload to the “Garmin vault”. The marketing text says that “Saved videos are stored securely in the online Vault and can be accessed using the Garmin Drive™ app on your compatible smartphone”.
I thought this meant any video saved to the SD card would automatically be available for 24 hours in the Vault for free, with optional subscription plans available to extend the time. This was the deciding factor for purchasing this particular dash cam.
Apparently this feature is not as described because Garmin has different terminology. “Saved videos” is apparently a term that specifically refers to detected incidents and when you use the app/button/voice command to “save” a video.
This is not really explained in the marketing for this product, and I would not have purchased this if this were explained clearly. Further, that doesn’t even seem to work. I have several “saved videos”, and left my car on for 10-15 minutes in the drive way and my Garmin vault is completely empty even though I repeatedly verified that the camera has a strong connection to wifi.
Add to that the Garmin app is extremely fickle and does not work reliably. stay away.
I got this thing in-store, but ordered my SD card online to go with it. I read through Garmin’s official documentation, which says the cam supports up to 512 GB capacity. That’s a lie. https://support.
garmin. com/en-US/?faq=OF98RhazrR4CS6lAzssmi9 The actual max size is 32 GB, since it must be formatted to FAT32 and if the card is greater than 32 GB, Windows won’t format it to FAT32. https://www8. garmin.
com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-8EFC497C-4031-46EE-AC26-B0AE4B3CE8BD/EN-US/Dash_Cam_Mini_2_OM_EN-US. pdf Lost about 60 bucks on the SD card that I can’t use + shipping and handling because of their bad documentation.
It looks like you *might* be able to format a 64 GB SD card to FAT32 format. It’s supposed to format automatically, but mine didn’t, even after power cycling and waiting maybe 20 minutes. https://support.
garmin. com/en-US/?faq=OOT840MVvr7yspMOhDunB6 Looks like you can use command prompt to format a card with more than 64 GB of capacity. https://www. diskinternals. com/partition-recovery/format-sd-card-fat32-windows-10/ I haven’t tried it (yet), so I don’t know if it’s valid.
As an end user of something that’s supposed to be mostly plug and play, I’m surprised and disappointed by the amount of research I have to do to set this thing up. Got my replacement 32 GB card today, so I’ll be trying that and updating this if the 32 GB card works by any means.

Reviews From Real Customers
We took a trip from Montana to Utah using both of the cars that I installed the cameras in. They performed fantastic with the exception of eating so much of my phone battery. I tried to set it so that it would not search for my location all the time and not use my phone when I didn’t have the app on, however, after the initial setup I couldn’t find where to go back and set it.
Also, in the initial setup it wouldn’t let me setup it up with just using it while the app was on and continued asking me to always let it allow its location. Even afterwards, when I allowed it there was a notification that it may not record right.
I’m not sure I did something wrong or if it just how it is. Other than that the quality of the videos are great and setup was pretty easy.
It’s great! I’m impressed. It is so clear, even at night-time. Set up took about 30 min to an hour total depending on how fast you are. In cabin cam are also clear. It’s quick to connect to my phone and the app.
Efficient. So far so good. I will update along should anything happens.

Reviews From Real Customers
Nextbase 522GW Dash Cam has some great features like Emergency SOS, G-Sensor, Alexa built in, superb video, and audio quality that distinct from other dashcam on the market. What’s in the box: Dashcam, 12/24V power adapter, Fitting tool for cable, Mount, 3M base plate, Manual Pros: Sharp HD (1440p) Video footage at 30fps Emergency SOS response to the location in case of an accident Alexa Voice Control Build in G-sensor for video backup during accident Great wireless performance Sturdy click & go pro mount Cons: Large form factor like a digital camera design Outdated menu and design Setup is easy.
Just charge the dashcam with the included USB cable for few hours and insert a memory card(microSD), mount it to the dash or on the windshield using the included mount of choice. It comes with a sturdy mount that can be attached using a 3M adhesive or a suction plate.
We mounted ours using the click and go pro mount that uses the magnets to lock it in place and is very for easily removal when required. Design of the camera is not very attractive with the protruded lens compared to competitors but like the new click & go pro mounting solution a lot for easy install and removal.
Dashcam weighs 125g and has a 3-inch touchscreen. It has got an option to add plug and play cabin camera or rear camera modules. One of the great features that this dashcam distinct from competitors is the unique SOS emergency mode that sends the location of vehicle in the event of an collision and driver is unresponsive to first responders.
This is a subscription service but includes a free trial. It does has a parking mode that records video if it detects any motion near the vehicle. Video Quality: Image quality is very impressive. Footage can be recorded in either 1440p at 30fps or 1080p at 60 fps.
We selected 1080p for more frames per second that gives more clarity in the event of an accident. Video image quality on both settings is good with the audio of the cabin and has the option to turn the audio off in the settings if you don’t want that to be recorded.
Included Alexa on the dashcam is good to make calls, play music, control smart home when needed without much distraction and focused on the road during driving. Companion mobile app is intuitive and easily connects to the smartphone with no issues.
Overall, the video quality, easy click mounts and the features like parking mode recording, Alexa integration makes this dashcam to recommend to anyone who is on the market for dashcam. If you need 4K resolution video or HD at 120fps for slow motion recording and Bluetooth/ WIFI 5 then would recommend the next model 622GW.
The Nextbase 522GW has a nice sized 3 inch HD screen to allow for easy setup and operation of the DashCam. With Alexa built in its also easy to control various features with your voice for the best of hands-free operation.
Also included on the unit itself is a polarizing lens which is a nice touch helping to mitigate glare. To set up the Nextbase 522GW I charged it for 2hrs as instructed and then I was ready to go. Make sure to either purchase a Nextbase microSD Card or equivalent to insure you will always be able to record.
As a dash cam is always writing and rewriting data this is key to having a recording available when you need it. An XC-U3-V30 speed card will be sufficient for your needs, I’d recommended getting no less than a 64GB Card but you can go as high as 128GB.
Power is supplied with a Cigarette Lighter Adapter or you can purchase a hardwire kit. Mounting is achieved with a combination adhesive and magnetic mount that allows for easy removal of the 533GW from your vehicle if needed and routing of the power wire is made easier with the included tool to help hide the wire in between crevasses in your car for a nice clean install.
There is built in GPS that records your location which is refreshed 10x every second to allow for very precise location data recording. Next, download the Nextbase Connect App to allow your smartphone to communicate with the camera seamlessly which allows you to easily share content if needed.
The My Nextbase Player can also be downloaded to your PC for video editing, sharing etc. All this is great but how is the video quality? I think its great with just a tad of video quality degradation at night but tolerable, I found 1080P is the best quality for night recroding as it has a slightly higher light sensitivity.
The pic is crisp enough to make out details such as license plates etc if needed in the case of an accident or other mishap, and with the aid of the included polarizing lens you have a crystal-clear pic.
Intelligent Parking Mode is also very useful as it keeps a watchful eye on your car when its parked and you are away. Using the G-sensor in the camera it detects motion such as a jolt to the car and it will start recording for you to be able to look back and see what happened and who did it.
Overall I found the Nextbase 522GW to be a well built high quality great addition to my car and a contributor to peace of mind should something happen.

Reviews From Real Customers
This is my third attempt at buying and using a dashcam. The first went straight in the trash as there were no instructions and no way to access it other than with a smart phone app (I don’t own a smart phone).
The second one came from Best Buy. The geniuses there had no idea how it worked, so it only took me 3-4 hours of experimenting and trial and error to figure out the most basic functions. It seemed to work OK, but the unit would lose memory (date and time) if I didn’t drive the car every day, so the files it collected (videos) all had meaningless date/time stamps (also the file name) and files were routinely overwritten before the SD card was full, because every time I did drive, it started saving files with the same name (derived from the date/time which was always 01/01/2000).
The Rove was a pleasant surprise. It came with a quick start guide (what a concept!) that had me up and running in minutes. They also included a very nice printed owners manual with everything I could want to know (the BestBuy one had to be downloaded from the internet and was incomplete at best).
The menus are intuitive and very easy to use. Except for a couple of menu items or button presses that were not readily apparent (accessing system parameters for instance), I probably didn’t even need the manual.
The other units did not have a GPS receiver. The Rove has the capability built-in so you always have the correct date/time as well as speed and heading indication in the recording. You can also download a Geotracking app to display your drive route on a map (I don’t use this, but it might be nice to have).
I can’t stress this enough: I bought the Dash Cam to record what happened in case of an accident or other traffic situation. It is very important to me to have the proper date, time, my speed and heading recorded if something happens.
If you ever get into a “He said. She said” situation, you want to be able to prove what happened and what your car was doing beforehand. I have 4 vehicles and I put a Rove dashcam in each one. I would not drive without one now.
This is a very good camera. It has a lot of nice features. That being said, the main issue I have is that if you only have a usb power point that is controlled by the ignition switch, when powered on, the camera defaults to a menu from which you must choose either use as a flash drive, use as a webcam or use camera normally.
This becomes a real problem if you are out in your car with multiple starts and stops because you have to select use as camera every time you start your car. I sent the company an email with a suggestion which I believe would resolve this issue but the only response I received was of no help and I do not believe they will make any attempt to incorporate my idea into their software.
If you have a cigarette lighter power point that is controlled by the ignition switch and use the included adapter, then you will probably have no problems. The company does recommend using a Samsung Class 3 memory card, but I am using a SanDisk Class 3 and have had no problems.
This review is for the company that makes the camera, ROVE and not the company that it was purchased from.
Truly plug and play. I recommend a 128 Gb micro-SD card because a 3 minute video uses 450 Mb of storage when recording in 4K. Use Rove’s recommended SD card. Default settings on this camera are 4k recording, broken up in 3 minute segments.
I have had no issues with this camera, and even recorded evidence to help the police! Image quality is fantastic. Remember to unplug the camera when you leave your vehicle, because it will continue recording (unless you need to have continuous monitoring).
I bought a second camera to use in my other vehicle.

The Vantrue dash cam takes excellent video front and rear. I have a Camaro convertable and use the built in rear camera to keep track of vehicles behind me as well as in front. I don’t even need to hook up the rear window camera.
The video quality is outstanding, the setup is easy and I like the quick detachment feature so I can remove it anytime. The camera has a well built “feeling” in your hand. I would recommend this product over cheaper models.
I ordered the Camera/Card/GPS adapter a week before our move from Illinois to South Carolina. Quick shipping! First impression is that the camera has a very high quality feel (especially compared to the last camera I had).
Good packaging. Instructions worded a bit strangely. Spent an evening installing it (fun part was figuring out a way to unobtrusively wire the rear camera in a BMW wagon, while still allowing the rear glass and door to open).
Ran it continuously for the 12 hour drive, around town for the next week, and the SD card was about 1/2 full. Overall very happy with the camera and the process. I will likely purchase a second one for my other car.

Buyers beware. No indication on box or setup (insert micro SD card) that such card for the edition I bought a couple weeks ago MUST HAVE not just any SD card. It must exceed even the “SanDisk branded Extreme 128 GB speeds up to 160 MB/s read 90 MB/s write speeds.
” So I bought a 3 pack of Sandisc 128 MB’s none of which worked. Then I bought the above mentioned SanDisc-extreme disc. DID NOT FUNCTION at all! Unit says “format card, I select format, it says complete, but never works to record.
Power off and reboot, message says “Format Card!” Working with NEXTBASE Tech support, they had to send a NEXTBASE branded SD card to allow the unit to function at all. Nowhere on the box or literature does any suggestion or warning message appear that the SD cards REQUIRED to function need to meet anything more than 30 FPS 1080 p specs which SD card specs do not call out so no way to know in advance.
The SanDisk SD cards packaging quote only MB/s read MB/ write speeds, along with “extreme capture, transfer, and app speeds” notations. Buyers beware of this seemingly new requirement.
I was a little surprised at how easy set up was on this. It really is just a plug and go sort of device. The cord management is awkward, and you’ll probably want to invest in some clips to contain it.
It’s a very, very long cord, which is great for making sure you can place the dash cam wherever you want and less great for not getting tangled. Just as a heads up, you are supposed to charge it for a few hours before putting it in the car, so don’t be like me and pull it out right before going for a drive.
It starts recording as soon as you turn it on, and when it’s plugged in it turns on when the car does. You can turn recording off though, if you want. The recording quality is on the low side, but it is still clear enough for it’s intended use.
My main complaint is the reverse camera. Like, there was literally nowhere on my windshield that I could place it to actually get anything other than the inside of my car. It’s kind of useless. Maybe it works better in a different make/model.
(I have a Ford Focus hatchback). The main camera is easy enough to position though, and gets a pretty clear shot of the front of the car.
Love this camera. I was looking for a dash cam, shopped around, settled on Nextbase due to the image quality found on Youtube videos, and the recommendations of others online and in dash cam chats. I was also wanted a second camera to record the road behind me.
I found this 222x, which must be a new item for Walmart, it fit both needs and for 139 was a better value then others I was looking at. The packaging quality is excellent, it comes with everything you need to install, (I did purchase the Nextbase GoPack as well to get the SD Card).
install took about 5 mins, the camera is small and I barely notice it on my windsheild. I have been using it for a week with no issues, image quality is fantastic and very easy to use. I bought this for peace of mind and just in case I ever needed to have video of an accident, but I actually pulled some video of a beautiful fall New England drive to share on Facebook.
I will be purchasing another one for our second vehicle. Highly recommend.

My car predates mandatory rear cameras, so I was intrigued by this dash camera with integrated rear window cam. This kit came with a front and rear camera, enough wires to connect the two, an extra adhesive sticker in case I ever get that new car I’ve been eyeing, and a spudger tool to help tuck the wires between the frame and the trim.
The unit was smaller than I was expecting, which is good because you don’t want it obscuring the driver’s view. The instructions were for a right-hand drive vehicle, but it was easy enough to figure out a good spot.
Since my windshield has an extreme angle, the only convenient place to mount the camera was up at the top, by the rear view mirror. I haven’t really taken the time to tuck the wires in, but I’m hoping that things look better than they do now, with wires hanging every which way.
I do like that the camera easily comes away from the mount, so that it’s not on display for any passing unlawful opportunist while parked. It’s attached to the mount via a very strong magnet, so there’s no worry of it falling off mid-drive.
The rear camera connector has some grooves in it that I didn’t spot at first installation, so it wasn’t properly connected, which meant that I didn’t get any rear footage at all in my first couple drives.
After some troubleshooting, I noticed the notches, and once lined up (and with some extra force around all the connection spots), the second camera appeared on the display. By default, the camera takes a series of 1 minute videos.
They are easily viewable files requiring no special software, though the manufacturer offers some sort of viewing programs to download. There are settings to adjust the length of the video. The audio recording isn’t really great, conversations didn’t really come out clearly if at all, which is fine by me.
If I wanted to record myself singing in the car, I’d have quite a few dislikes on my Youtube channel. Since the only rear camera I’ve really used is when I borrowed my father’s luxury SUV with parking assistance, I wasn’t sure if the extreme fishbowl effect on the one on the Nextbase was by design or not, but it was no help in parallel parking (nor was the fact that the display itself was nearly out of sight behind the rear view mirror), but I’ve squeezed into the tiniest spots on my crowded city’s streets without assistance for the last 25 years, no reason to let that be a crutch now.
All in all, I’d say that the peace of mind that a dashcam offers is worth the hassle of installing one. There’s some maintenance stuff that needs to be manually done, like purging the microsd card every couple weeks (fortnightly, according to the fancy instructions).
I don’t like that it takes up the only socket I have in my car without offering a splitter or at least USB charging ports, which means if I want to use my phone to navigate (again, base model 15 year old car owner here, no built in nav or even an aux port for the audio, only CD’s) I’ll have to invest in some sort of solution for that.
The video quality is good, though, and captures a wide angle, which is great for its intended use.
The Nextbase 320XR is a good dash cam and rear view cam. The box contains everything you need to get set up including; the camera and rear camera, USB to car charger power cable, the USB-C cable to connect the rear to the main camera, nice mounts for the cameras and a quick start guide.
Installing the cameras requires a little bit of cable management under or around your car’s interior, for me that meant unlatching a few plastic pieces and running the wires under the roof interior. The mount that attaches the dash cam is really nice, it has a magnetic pin connecter that allows the power cable to plug into the mount instead of the camera.
This makes it easier to remove the camera from the mount in a snap without having to touch the cables. The camera automatically starts recording as soon as I turned on my car. The setting on the camera are easy to control and navigate through.
The camera features a 1080p recording, it has a built-in microphone that can be turned off at the push of a button, and it has a nice clear 2. 5″ display. The display features a pip display for the rear camera, which can be repositioned around the screen.
I like that this has what’s called a protect button which locks the current files being recorded so they don’t get recorded over. I also like how simple and fast this camera operates, once it’s installed, it basically operates automatically.
The camera has an micro sd card slot for recording video, once the video card fills up the camera starts recording over older footage that hasn’t been locked. Depending on the size of the SD card, is how long you’ll be able to record.
For reference, a 64gb card will get you 8hrs of record time at 1080p. To view your recorded footage all you have to do is detach the camera from the magnetic mount, and plug it into your PC or Mac. The free software that you can download on the Nextbase website, lets you view, edit, copy, or erase your footage.
The software is actually good, it works really, and its very easy to navigate through. Overall, I was impressed at how well the footage looks on the camera. It comes out crystal clear at 1080p. I also really like how easy the camera is to operate, once it’s installed it becomes automatic and distraction free.
This is a great device to have in case of a fender bender or even theft. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new dash cam.
The NextBase 320XR dashcam camera set is a well-built, compact pair of cameras. A base front windshield unit which is slightly smaller and more compact than some of their other models and a separate ball like Rear Window camera.
This duo of cameras comes in at a lower price point in comparison to other Nextbase models (I also have the 4k 522GW model). The main camera is not a touch screen, has lower recording resolution (HD 1080p @ 30 frames per second).
Regardless, this setup has the advantage of having a rear camera, so you have a front and REAR view. I really like the rear-view mode, the recording quality is also HD. This camera dispenses with some of the more advanced connectivity features that are in other Nextbase models as it does not include Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS.
Frankly 90% of the time I don’t use these features, removing the memory card when I need to download video, as some of the connectivity features of the more advanced cameras can be glitchy anyway. This model also does not include the suction cup mount, only adhering to your windshield using a plate with adhesive (I don’t see why you couldn’t purchase a suction cup mount separately).
Frankly I changed to using the adhesive plate for mounting my 522GW model as in high interior temperature, parked car scenarios, I would find the camera had fallen off the surface of the windshield when using the suction cup.
The bracket separates from the body of the camera (the power plugs into the bracket) and kinda snaps in place with the help of a magnet if you need to remove the camera for safe keeping (front camera only).
As with other models the video recorded is crystal clear from both the front and rear cameras. Nextbase continues to produce quality dashcams and this carries on in that tradition. I installed this unit in my wife’s car and it really does deliver.
Wise move to add the rear facing camera as it gives you recorded visibility into tailgaters and rear end collisions. The Intelligent Parking mode also records a video clip if your vehicle is bumped while you are away (sourced from both cameras), helpful in determining the culprit in parking lot mishaps.
Removing some of the more advanced features to bring this duo of cameras in at a reasonable and more competitive prices point was a wise move. Pros: – Clear 1080p video from front and rear cameras – Well built – Intelligent Parking mode – Reasonable price Cons: – None, as long as you are not looking for 4k video, high frame rates, touch screen or advanced connectivity features.

Reviews From Real Customers
I purchased this unit for the front and back camera capabilities. The mirror goes over the existing mirror and uses rubber straps to hold it in place so it was fast and easy to setup the front camera.
I mounted the back camera inside and used double sided Velcro to hold it in place high up on the back windshield. The Velcro allows me to remove it if needed in case it gets in the way of loading something big into the SUV’s back compartment.
I didn’t use the red backup light trigger to turn on the rear camera when backing up as I already have a reverse camera and this allows the unit to record both front and back views constantly to the SD card.
The video playback menu allows you to select which videos to view – front or back and has it timestamped so you can select the video based on the time you’re interested in. I have it setup to record a new clip every 1 minute.
The setup menu provides a lot of control over the camera’s features too, so it’ll take a few minutes to go through all of the capabilities in each of the menu functions. I left a lot of them at factory defaults for my use.
You can easily switch between front, back and both views by swiping right on the mirror surface. The cameras can be setup for 2K resolution only on ONE camera and the other will go to 1080P. So it’s not 2K on both cameras at the same time.
I have the front setup for 2K and the rear camera at 1080P. I have the camera defaulted to the rear camera view when the car starts up. This allows us to use it as a full wide rearview mirror and it’s great as it covers a wide angle and helps to get rid of the hidden spots that our normal mirror had with the C pillars.
One thing I wished it had better control over is the brightness and color contrast. When the sun is behind the car in the mornings or in the evenings, the rear camera is washed out and you can’t see the cars behind you.
It only has a basic brightness adjustment and that can’t help with the sun situation. So when we can’t see out the rear camera during these times, we turn off the screen and use it as a normal mirror.
But the normal mirror mode isn’t like you car’s review mirror as it’s not as bright and reflective, so it’s like looking out of a dark “smoked” mirror. After using it for several weeks, this is the only item I wished it did better.
Overall, a solid unit for the price I got it at on a Black Friday week sale.
Bought this for a Hyundai Veloster and it works incredibly. It has a wide angle and very clear camera. Easy to install. Worth the money. Keep in mind that this does not come with a DS card to record, but you can purchase one and insert on top on mirror for it to record.
Once you have the DS card it will record at all times. It will delete the oldest video. Also this mirror cannot be accessible through your phone. All videos are only viable through playback on mirror or take DS card to view on another device.
This camera is great for the features and convenience. Not only does it not get in the way, like others do; but it also adds functionality. With 2 kids, we often fill up the whole trunk and block the view out of the rear windshield; but with the camera and display, we still have a great functional rearview mirror – one that sees even better in the dark and is even wider than what my eyes and the original mirror would show.
Conclusion
A car security camera can be a great investment to help protect your vehicle when it is parked. The camera can help to deter criminals from targeting your car and can also provide evidence if your car is broken into or vandalized.
When choosing a car security camera, be sure to select one with night vision capabilities so that you can still monitor your car even when it is dark outside. You should also consider how you will power the camera, as some models require batteries while others can be wired into your car’s electrical system.
