20 Best Camping Chair For Bad Back (2022 Updated)

So far so great. I do not believe that there is a perfect chair for every situation. Different activities require different chairs. So over the past year I’ve been on a chair buying frenzy, purchasing based on usage activity.

The target activity/activities this time was events, ie: – kids sports – tail gating – outdoor concerts – picnics – etc The requirements for this, in priority order, were: – PORTABILITY – WEIGHT – SHORT TERM COMFORT (max 1-2 hours) – TRANSPORTING – EASE OF USE – QUALITY/DURABILITY I ultimately went with cliq because it was superior in all the above categories.

– PORTABILITY I needed to be able to carry these to and from each event, sometimes far walks. Most chairs are easily carried, but add the wife and daughters chair and carrying 3 chairs is suddenly difficult! Not only do the Cliqs fold up to the size of an umbrella, but they have multiple sized chair bags available to make it even easier to carry more than 1.

Huge points there! – WEIGHT Similar to the above. Carrying 3 chairs can get heavy, the Cliqs are SUPER light. Like 3 of their chairs weigh less than my high back camping chair. – SHORT TERM COMFORT (max 1-2 hours) The events are typically 1-2 hours so they definitely need to be pretty comfortable.

Some chairs I tested hurt after 5mins, NOT Cliq, they are actually very comfy. The canvas cradles you when you sit. There are no tight spots or pressure points in the canvas when your sit in it. The flex in the design provides some great comfort compared to typical rigid style folding/collapsing chairs.

– TRANSPORTING These chairs would likely be living in the trunk of the suv or car. 3 chairs can take up a lot of space, so the size is also important. Like I mentioned early, these chairs fold up super small and have a bag so they are as about as compact as you can get.

Another HUGE win here. – EASE OF USE sometimes this is scarified when the chair size is important. One chair I returned to different company collapsed VERY small but it required that you basically put it together bar by bar like tent poles through holes and then attaching the canvas.

It was so not practical, it took 5 mins to set up each time. Cliq, has it figured out. This chair sets up in about 7 seconds. And it breaks down in 3 seconds. You can do it so fast it looks like I fluid motion! – QUALITY/DURABILITY I’m roughly 6′ and 210lbs and I am use my things hard.

The chair is definitely small in size but it is strong. Super quality, does not feel cheap or “tin-y”. It has no problem holding me in resting position or when I’m putting more stress on it when moving.

Cliq is a great buy for anyone looking for a extremely portable, comfortable, easy quality chair.

First, I want to acknowledge Cliq’s legit customer service team. Someone had left a smoldering fire unattended at my campsite and the wind carried an ember onto my chair, burning a whole straight through.

Despite the fact that this wasn’t covered under warranty, Cliq decided to send me a replacement canopy. Turns out they ran out, so I received a completely new chair. I was stoked. Use: I am a mountain bike coach and often help build trails.

This chair stays in my trunk, and is the easiest chair to open I’ve owned. There is no assembly, just open and close. After a couple of hours in the sun, I snap this chair out and rest for a moment. This chair goes with us to races where we camp and takes minimal space in my small car.

There are more comfortable chairs out there, but those chairs are nowhere near as portable and easy to use. Even then, this chair is a 4/5 on the comfort scale. I wouldn’t use it as a chair to use with a table as the seat position is slightly reclined; so it’s made to be a lounging chair, around a campsite, at a picnic on the grass.

It’s got some heft in terms of weight, but absolutely durable. I own two chairs, not including the third with the burnt canopy, and would choose this considering it’s size and ease of use.

Bought the two chair set with the free carry case, very responsive & quick order & delivery, well packaged, the chairs have very sturdy, high quality, sky blue & red nice colors, not cheap looking, looks very durable for the long haul, and even the 2 chair carry bag is high quality.

Price a bit high for my taste but in same price range as competitor products in the same quality & function, would not call 3. 65 lbs. each ultra-light but light enough to carry on hikes & such, extending each post was a little tricky at first but should be easier after a little use & more familiarity with the set up.

Overall, did a lot of research & the Cliq chairs are one of the most compact & light portable chairs to stash in the vehicle, even on a bike, take hiking, or to events. The posts are very solid and everything folds out & assembles fairly easy & quickly once you understand how to extend each post, plus you are not piecing it all together like the ultra-light competition.

Comfortable but low back although any higher & you will not have the compact convenience they are designed for. I think they are perfect for any purpose when you need a super compact & lightweight chair to take with you anywhere.

I fricken love this chair. Just took it out for its first camping trip and I found I often chose it over my hammock simply because it was easier to move into the shade. I’m amazed at how comfortable it is for such a small, lightweight thing.

I was able to both relax back with a book and sit forward to cook and eat comfortably. The materials are super solid. Sometimes I’m like “can this little thing seriously be that sturdy?” But then I look at the thickly padded and reinforced pole pockets, where I’d expect the most tension and wear to appear over time, and if they’re any sign of the quality of construction, I’m confident it will hold up (pun intended).

At first I was unsure about buying this model because I couldn’t tell from the pics if the mesh panels were flimsy, but I was pleasantly surprised; this mesh is hella sturdy stuff and it’s not gonna rip or stretch out.

The whole fabric sling piece feels extremely well constructed. I chose this model over the chair zero because I like the frame shape and anti-sinking properties it affords. It looks more stable and aesthetically pleasing to me than the legs on the other one.

I’d definitely worry I’d snap one of those little legs off with any wiggling around I’d do. Worth the extra weight imo. The whole thing sets up and folds down quickly and smoothly, no cursing involved.

The fabric piece folds up and wraps neatly over the collapsed frame and it all slips easily into the provided bag. The only two things I can knock it for are 1) the price. I’m glad I got a solid, high-quality item, but does everything good really have to cost this much? It’s just a chair dang.

And 2) black is a nice neutral color sure to be a crowd pleaser, but I would have liked a brighter more cheerful color choice as well. Neither of these are really points against, overpriced gear is par for the course these days, and we can’t win ‘em all as far as color.

If you like to sit in a somewhat relaxed back position with your legs “up” out in front of you I don’t think there is a better ultralight or even light weight chair out there. This chair is seriously light and I love mine and take it all over the place.

I’m really happy to see this one back on the shelves at MEC, its a unique and excellent product. The lack of real legs that app the other chairs in the lightweight chair world have does away with a serious weak point they have, and on top, this chair is way less prone to sinking in soft ground.

The low height lets you sit comfortably inside even small backpacking tents, use the ground as your side table. Something to consider though is if you are camping with others on standard height chairs you’ll be sitting below them.

Some people I’ve spoken to hate this idea. I don’t care at all. Personal preference there. There are two downsides that I feel need to be mentioned. 1) something I’m really disappointed with Helinox for is they don’t seem to supply spare frame parts, even to dealers, so if you crack one of the frame connectors or bend a pole you need to buy a new chair (or MEC might take it back).

I’ve seen these break. 2) I would also say it needs to be treated as what it actually is, an ultralight chair. It can get jammed up with sand and it can be a little fragile – this is not a chair to hand your young kids to climb all over, or an adult to lean on the wrong way.

The frame is not made to be loaded off angle and it will break if you do.

I love Helinox products, and this ground chair will be a perfect addition to my upcoming weeks of field work. I’ve set it up at home so far, and have enjoyed sitting under my window and closer to floor level to escape some of the summer heat in my flat.

The design is excellent, a stable frame that is easy to set up and take down, and I love that the contact points on the ground are a connected in a square with broader feet to minimise sinking. I enjoy the slight recline of the chair, and feel it gives decent back support in a reclined sitting position.

As ever, I love how compact and extremely lightweight this chair is, and I like the coyote tan colour I received. Great product!.

The seat fabric disintegrated after very light use for a few months, used less than 6 times by a not-large adult. I spent hours sewing and patching it back together only to have it tear again right next to one line of stitching.

It’s a shame because this was the MOST comfortable chair for my back that I could find. A sturdy fabric should have been used. Clearly it’s a common issue. What is Coleman doing to make this great chair design better? It was the best chair I found for my bad back and I would buy it again for the design IF the fabric was sturdy enough to be dependable!.

Except for the unraveling, fraying and eventual disintegration of the green trim, a great chair. Started looking worn after 6 months and not ‘guest worthy’ after a year. And if your patient, in 2 years the seat will rip while your sitting in it.

It’s a shame, I always supported Coleman as a brand, they always seemed better quality at a reasonable price. Oh well, will now have to look elsewhere. If interested I can post pics. Let me know.

The chair was delivered at my door in a large cardboard box (not fitted to the size and form of the chair). There was no instruction material that showed how to expand the chair and to fold it up. After some experimenting with the chair I was able to get it snapped into its form ready to sit in.

It took some effort which wasn’t expected. Then I went to work trying various ways to get it folded up, which took a while. I wondered if everyone who buys this chair was able to figure out how to put it into use.

Also, the description of the chair online claimed a weight of 3 pounds. It weighs close to 8 pounds.

I bought this chair two years ago. If you can get over the fact that your cheap friends/family will roast you for how fancy your chair is, than you will probably be satisfied with this chair. Structurally it’s the most solid chair I’ve ever sat in.

Getting it out and deploying it is easier than any chair. And packing it up back into the bag is not only easy, but it’s fun. I will say, it’s a heavy chair so if you are weaker than an average 25 year old guy than you may have some issues with carrying it long distances.

But overall this chair is solid. Is it worth $300? I don’t know. It’s kind of up to you. Oh and the cup holder is big enough for most of the yeti water bottles and mugs and stuff. Which is why I got this in the first place.

I’ve seen a lot of people addressing fire ember damage pretty easily. I don’t have that problem and I have used this chair around fires pretty regularly. So unless you intentionally do dumb stuff around fires or have a tendency to roast your chairs like a marshmallow, I don’t think you’ll have any problems.

My wife and I are beginning our RV life and wanted two camp chairs. I stumbled upon these Yeti TrailHead chairs here on Moosejaw and after reading the glowing reviews, decided to take the plunge. Delivery was lightning-fast and when I unboxed these chairs, I was blown away.

No more junky, tippy, uncomfortable camp chairs for us. These babies are built like tanks. They support your back; they are a great height; the armrests are beefy and they set up in two, easy motions.

Our daughter and daughter-in-law were visiting the other weekend and they were chatting, whilst sitting in these chairs and my daughter said, Dad, these chairs are more comfortable than any other chairs in the house! And, indeed they are.

My biggest fear is that they’ll be stolen, they are so nice. I do wish there were two, rather than just one cup holder. Maybe they can be purchased separately. These chairs are NOT cheap, but they reek of quality and the fact is, you get what you pay for.

My wife and I were looking for a chair to replace our other camp chairs. My wife is a bit short, and she has problems with the typical camp chair that folds up because she sinks into the chair which makes it difficult to get out of it.

We saw this Yeti chair when we were looking at a sporting goods store. It was much more expensive, but decided to try it. During the summer, we go out quite a lot to summer concerts where we bring out chairs.

We found this Yeti chair easy to setup, very durable, and way more comfortable than any of our other chairs that we’ve used over the years. It is a bit more difficult and heavy to transport on your shoulder, but not that bad.

We liked it so much that I decided to buy me one as well. Basically, we figured that we’ve replaced our other camp chairs after 2 or 3 years because they break after that much time. So this Yeti chair if it lasts 10 years or so, we’ll have not spent any more money, and we will be much more comfortable.

Forced to buy camp chairs for a summer family event. I dreaded it, figured the chair would behave like a steel octopus, unwieldy and confusing to assemble and use. Instead, these are a dream. Set up in literally about 5 seconds out of the bag.

Comfortable to sit in. Folds back into the bag in about 5 seconds, too. Sturdy, but lightweight to carry in the bag that has a handle. So pleased, I came back for more!.

This is a great and comfortable chair to take camping. It folds up nicely into its pouch; making it easy to store in the truck as well as easily folds out and back into its pouch. It makes for a perfect night by the campfire, gazing at stars.

I will purchase more of these; as they are useful for many more things than just camping. You can use them as extra seats for extra guests at your house, use them for sporting events, outside on a hot summer night, or just keep them in your car for an extra seat whenever you might need one.

I definitely recommend others giving this a try.

I highly recommend these camping chairs. I have used them many times for sitting around our fire pit, and they are the most comfortable camping chairs I’ve ever sat in. They are constructed in a way that holds the curve of your back perfectly and tilts back ever so slightly so you can look up at the night sky (would be great for watching fireworks).

They are pretty easy to get in and out of their holders and the carrying strap comes in handy for toting them around. Construction seems solid. We’ve had some heavier people use them without any issues.

I own four of these and I’m tempted to buy more.

These things are so sturdy and much more comfortable than your average camp chair. The attached back Velcro strap and handle mean you can carry it around without the bag if needed (although it does go smoothly back into the bag without issue).

The cup holder will easily fit a can/bottle with a koozie on it, or even a larger bottle if unzipped. For those saying they had difficulty opening the chair, once you undo the Velcro strap you want to pull it open at the top from the 4 corners of the seat/back, not the arm rests.

As long as you’re not pulling from the arm rests, it’s easy. We bought 2 for our upcoming trip, so I can’t speak to longevity, but they feel really well made.

I was extremely excited to receive this chair, as it looked pretty and supportive! I hate the cheap bag chairs where I sink into them, as they kill my tailbone and back. And I don’t like directors chairs because they are usually pretty wide and the backs are low.

As a female, I don’t need a chair twice as wide as I am. However, when I received this chair and tried it out, it was very odd. The seat is too high – my feet just touched the ground. And I am not short at all – I’m 5′ 7″.

So I can only imagine an average height female would feel like a child with their legs swinging in this chair. Also, the high and supportive back was not what I hoped it would be. It angles back too much, and I felt like I was in a car where the previous person had the seat laid back, only in the chair I couldn’t fix it.

I felt like I was trying to force my head to be upright when I was sitting in it. The height and pillow are not really that high, as others have said – they were too low for my head to relax against.

It’s sad, because I loved the color! But I returned it.

Bought this chair for my mom who has back and neck issues but likes to come to watch my son play baseball. The color is great, its a little heavy but I expected that from a well built chair that is sturdy.

My only reason for giving 4 stars is because the carrying bag it came in has several holes. The top of the chair, the headrest part, comes off and the pokes must have pushed through the carrying bag while in transit.

When it arrived and we took it out if the box it had holes. I sure hope it did not get packed for shipping that way which is why I think it happened while being shipped to me. The detachable headrest is nice but maybe a stronger carrying material for the bag is needed or a better design.

Really a bargain, great for sunrise or sunset at half the cost of a well known product from all the big recreational equipment stores. Sturdily built, easy set up and takedown. Nice carry bag and pillow too.

This is the level of comfort that I have waited for my entire backpacking life. The shade of grey with a stubble tone of green is very pleasant. The light weight to carry and solid construction for support is a gift to your back.

I’m 6-0, at a gentle recline my head rests on the high back of the chair. And yes, the foot rest does fully detach, you can leave it behind. Not for the beach: sand jammed one of the sliding parts the only time I took it to the beach so I couldn’t retract and pack the chair.

Otherwise, comfortable.

A foot rest is a must have and these seem like a solid option for years of camping and more. Foldable so stash and go. The frame is steel and not as light as aluminum but make them more afordable. We loved that the back is high enough for a head rest too.

Bought this Coleman and the Kijaro dual lock camping chairs thinking that the former is shorter and better for my kid while the latter is taller and better for me. Do yourself a favor and forget the Coleman, even for shorter people.

Get the Kijaro; it’s more than double the price but at least 5 times better: more supportive, roomy, and better build. The Coleman cool mesh chair is unbearably uncomfortable for a 6-foot tall person.

Not enough thigh support (cuts off mid-thigh) and you slump into the chair too much. Even my ten year old prefers the higher Kijaro chair since she can just sit with her legs up criss-cross instaead of with toes dangling and it is much more supportive.

Returning the Coleman the same day I picked up.

Very comfortable chair! I bought this to bring as a beach chair as I don’t like the super low seating of normal beach chairs. I also specifically bought this for the higher weight limit. This held up well during our week.

It’s a very comfortable chair with tons of storage. It has the normal cup holder but also has a netted pocket on the side with multiple pockets on it great for putting phones and other items. I also like built in cooler though I can’t say it really keeps my items cool at all.

I may not have used it properly, but I didn’t notice a difference. Overall a great chair and I think I’m buying another one for our trip next year!.

We’ve had these chairs for about 2 years now and although we love how comfrotable they are and the storage bag and built in cooler are added bonuses we are disappointed on how these have held up. We use these about once a month when we go out camping and these are stored in the garage when not in use so they haven’t been left out in the rain or sun.

Despite that, these chairs have become increasingly difficult to fold up into their storage bags as the legs don’t want to collapse. It’s only a matter of time before one of the legs becomes stuck and we’re no longer able to fold these chairs up.

We have a loveseat chair made by a different company that is twice as big but is easier to fold up than these single chairs.

The chair is very comfortable. The quality lacks though. Where the 2 post go into the backrest section of the chair the fabric tears every time. The first chair I had started ripping as soon as the chair was put together.

It was never used. I returned it and looked at another one on the shelf, gave that area a slight tug and yes it started to come apart as well. I checked one other and same thing. Short story long, I took the last one on the shelf and dropped it off at a alteration place and asked if they could reinforce that area.

They charged me $18. 00 and I have not picked it up yet. I hope it works because it is a comfortable chair.

Great chair. As the name suggests its packable. In my opinion this chair is not Ultralight. Helinox chairs are but run 3 to 4 times the price. This chair shines where space is limited. Jeep drivers trying to fit gear in for extended trips where space is limited.

I use this chair on overnight low mileage backpacking trips and just around the campsite. Its comfortable and supports my 225lbs easily and comfortably thanks to the high-back. The color is cool which is a bonus.

Perfect lakeside fishing chair. A great buy will get my moneys worth.

This is a comfortable chair. Really like the higher back and it is a little higher in seat height which makes it easier to get out of than some other ultralight camp chair. The only issue I have with it, is it is super tight in putting the fabric portion onto the aluminum frame.

Hoping it loosens up some with use.

These are wonderful chairs! I’ve been looking for a chair that is higher ground-to-seat and I found it in this portable chair. Not only is it easier to get out of, it’s wider, more durable, and better made.

It is somewhat heavy so toting both is not fun but if we each carry our own, excellent. Well worth the price.
