1. Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds [Book]
Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the OddsFor David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare — poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.
S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world’s top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him “The Fittest (Real) Man in America.
” In Can’t Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.
David Goggins is an extraordinary individual. He is constantly seeking to improve himself – he still understand that he has a long way to go. This is shown through his constant pursuits to find the courage to go past his comfort zones.

This book is everything. It is a guide, a comfort blanket, a mirror, a compass, and a compelling read. Ive read more than once and given it countless times as a gift. And it is a true gift. Another reviewer stated something to the effect of that if they were stressed that reading just a small bit of this book brought them back to a place of peace.
I wholeheartedly agree with that assessment. Its grounded me in ways I never thought possible. It will help you be a better person even with just one paragraph. There are so many quotes of wisdom in this book that it is unbelievable.

“Most of us go through life with a vision of what the ideal relationship is supposed to be, yet too often our longing for a soul mate leads to disappointment and heartbreak. Whether she is offering practical advice on how to avoid making the same relationship mistakes over and over again, or helping us to view the painful end of a relationship as an opportunity to learn and change, Iyanla Vanzant, as author Patrice Gains has said, ‘reminds us that every moment is an opportunity to learn and inspires and encourages us to continue our inward daily search’.
What a fantastic illuminating and educational book, couldn’t put it down, in fact have bought “one day my soul just opened up” too, the author makes it so easy for you to understand why your life is the way it is, the info shows you how to respond to events, how to take back control of your life and change your outcome for the better.
It’s an awesome read I’ve already leant it to one of my friends and feel sure it will do the rounds amongst all my friends. Highly recommended to all.
I bought this book as one of my 2015 reads. I bought this book as one of my 2015 reads. I have listened to Iyanla Vanzant on U tube lectures. In this book I found her to be very thought provoking and very understanding of peoples ‘in between times’ when nothing is going on for you, when you may feel stuck, alone and life feels hard.
this I now understand to be ‘IN THE MEANTIME’. This book will help you to figure out what you may need to do NOW IN THE PRESENT for YOU be it to love yourself more or love others and help you to move on.
Iyanla has been a mind-saver of mine for many years. Although many women read her writings, Men should definetly pick up any one of her numerous books and grab a cup of tea. Whenever I need to be re-grounded and get some clarity of where I am in my life, I often reach for one of her books be it audio or written.
She writes not from a preachy way but soul to soul and when you are reading, I guarantee that you will recognize yourself in some of these exact situations. I have purchased this book numerous times only to find that I will give it away to someone whose time has come to read the words contained within.
This time the book is for me and to keep just for me. If you need some clarity about where you are, where you’re going and where you should be, this book I guarantee will not fail you, but will help you navigate through your situation.
Remember, THE MEANTIME IS NOT A PERMANENT CONDITION, IT IS A HEALING PROCESS. Namaste, Moon )O(.

What this book does is make you go back into bad things that you forgot about that hindered and hurt you in the past. Things you really did not want to remember. This book made me more depressed than how I was before I read it.
No surprise that I could only read a couple of chapters before it really made me so depressed that I gave up. Waste of money. Im starting to believe that some self help books do more damage than help.
If you are depressed and curious about what is written in the book, I strongly suggest you avoid this book. Its not worth the headache and bringing up old things you forgot about. Very sad. I wish I never head about this book.
Lots of case studies to explain their points. Very relatable. It was written a few years ago but is still very relevant and provides great insight into human behaviour. It also provides lots of practical exercises for changing one’s life for the better.

Exuberant rhymes and wild illustrations celebrate self-acceptance and self-love, from the New York Times bestselling creators of I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More! High on energy and imagination, this ode to self-esteem encourages kids to appreciate everything about themselves–inside and out.
Messy hair? Beaver breath? So what! Here’s a little girl who knows what really matters. At once silly and serious, Karen Beaumont’s joyous rhyming text and David Catrow’s vibrant illustrations unite in a book that is sassy, soulful.
and straight from the heart. I Like Myself belongs on the shelf alongside such favorites as The World Needs More Purple People and I Am Enough.
“I like myself! Im glad I’m me, there’s no one else I’d rather be!” This is a sweet story of an adorable little girl and her dog. Dr. Seuss would give it an A+ Rating. I’m glad I invested in this book to share with my grandchildren.
and when I feel a bit “down” read it again to remember. no matter how young or old we are. that liking ourselves is always the most FUN way to live. The illustrations are superb.
My child and I read this book and enjoyed it. Cute book to encourage kids to embrace themselves as they are, love themselves and not let anyone tell them otherwise. The character describes why and how she loves herself and this something that children need to learn to do from an early age.
The earlier they learn to embrace themselves it can take them a long way in life. Cute drawings and easy for children to understand, would recommend reading.
We love this book. It has an amazing message and the illustrations are incredible. I had one of the books the illustrator did when I was little and still remember it. Will be purchasing many more as baby shower gifts!.
From leading psychologist Dr. Kristin Neff comes a step-by-step guide explaining how to be more self-compassionate and achieve your dreams in life The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion—and a tyrannical one at that.
Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure. Fortunately, there is an alternative to self-esteem that many experts believe is a better and more effective path to happiness: self-compassion.
Kristin Neff and other leading psychologists indicates that people who are compassionate toward their failings and imperfections experience greater well-being than those who repeatedly judge themselves.
The feelings of security and self-worth provided by self-compassion are also highly stable, kicking in precisely when self-esteem falls down. This book powerfully demonstrates why it’s so important to be self-compassionate and give yourself the same caring support you’d give to a good friend.
This groundbreaking work will show you how to let go of debilitating self-criticism and finally learn to be kind to yourself. Using solid empirical research, personal stories, practical exercises, and humor, Dr.
Neff—the world’s foremost expert on self-compassion—explains how to heal destructive emotional patterns so that you can be healthier, happier, and more effective. Engaging, highly readable, and eminently accessible, this book has the power to change your life.
This book shares some really insightful concepts that could prove helpful for anyone who has struggled with being habitually and repeatedly too hard on them self for years on end: leading to depression, anger and self destructive behaviors.
I wouldn’t call it easy-reading, but it’s worth working through. You’ll probably want to revisit it in the future, as well, to freshen the concepts in your mind and make them more actionable.
Open the door on self kindness and self compassion and you open the door to true love. You will find love of yourself and love of others as well. The reason this book did not receive 5 stars is because it frequently directed you to websites which I found bothersome as I believe the author could have included the material into the book.

Her books have helped thousands of children boost confidence, self-esteem, and a calming mind like Right Now I Am Kind, Right Now I Am Brave, Everyone Feels Anxious Sometimes, Everyone Feels Sad Sometimes, and Everyone Feels Angry Sometimes.
My experience has been horrible. I’ve have tried for the past 14 days to arrange to return these books based on the “money back guarantee”. The only thing I get is too pull a customer service ticket and then at the bottom it says you will only receive store credit.
I have attempted so I have tried so many ways to speak to a customer service representative get nothing but the same message. As far as the books are concerned, here is my review of those: I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor that specializes in children and adolescents and a retired school counselor.
I ordered the “Right Now, I’m Fine” bundle of books for my four year old grandson based on the wonderful reviews. The first thing I noticed upon receiving the bundle was the poor quality of the books.
The magazine grade paper and weak binding concerned me as I would be sharing it with a very anxious four year old. Upon review of the first book, “Right Now, I’m Fine”, I was deeply concerned about the illustrations including a sick grandmother, smoke, fire, storms, etc.
All of these illustrations on the first few pages have the potential of evoking anxiety and do not establish any sense of security or safety upon beginning the story. As a mental health professional I wanted to bring these things to your attention and encourage you to consider a more trauma informed approach.
I did not continue on to read any more of the books in the collection and had hoped I would be able to return them for a refund. I have been advised that you do not offer refunds but only credit for other items.
Based on my review of the first book in the bundle, I do not plan on purchasing any further items from your company and am sorely disappointed that your company does not offer a better refund policy.
The general world picture of problems would have been enough for me to get the message intended. The picture that looks like everyone around them is going to die was way too much for me, even though I know that this is sometimes what children think.
Grandma being sick was OK, but really the storm cloud hanging overhead would have given me a clear message that they were worried and opened a discussion about anything a child might be worried about.
The suggestions at the end of the book were good EXCEPT that nowhere did it suggest that they talk with a grown-up! I think that would be the quickest way to start feeling better. There are some times you just want to feel safe.
The grown up may not have all of the answers, but they could add that they pray in situations like these (I understand prayer wasn’t your intent, so you add the ‘talk to a grown-up” and I can insert the prayer).
If there is a tornado and your house blows away but you are all alive, then you might say, We are fine now. When someone dies before their time and the entire family is in mourning, you might be able to say, we WILL be fine again, but right now we are all sad.
It will take some time, but we will get better TOGETHER. So maybe I am really just not a fan of the term , I’m fine. Most people I know who are facing real challenges say they are fine because when someone asks, that’s what they want to hear.
This is a great tool with an easy mantra to remind kids (and anyone really) to take a moment to feel safe and reenter. I have 7 year old twins that love this book! When one seems to have a tough day, the other says “Mom, I think my brother needs the I’m fine book”.
Thank you for this great tool! Also the art is darling and enjoyable for all ages!.
Many women live their lives believing that they can’t ask for what they want until they change something they’re unhappy with. No promotion until they get new skills. No relationship until they establish their career.
No fulfillment until they find love. One of the most common conditions women place on themselves is weight loss–no love until they lose weight, no sex until they lose weight, no happiness until they lose weight.
But Jessica Ortner, co-producer of the highly successful documentary on meridian tapping, The Tapping Solution, offers women a better choice. Why not lose the weight and create the life you’ve always dreamt of? What often isn’t discussed is the science behind the issue and how learning to deal with stress can promote and accelerate weight loss.
Not only does stress create an overabundance of cortisol that is directly related to abdominal obesity, it also impacts behavior, supporting bad habits, including using food to deal with difficult emotions and painful situations.
In this groundbreaking book, Jessica uses tapping to help tackle the stress that leads to weight gain–including the personal stresses of low self-esteem and a lack of confidence. Using her own struggles with weight loss, along with success stories of some of the thousands of women she’s worked with, Jessica walks readers through the process of discovering their personal power and self-worth.
Her program is based on extensive research into the benefits and success of tapping and the hormones involved in stress and weight gain. In this book she guides readers through a proven process of overcoming their dependency on food.
She covers everything from the emotional aspects of overeating and cravings, to how to find joy in exercise, the power of pleasure, and how our families and friends may inadvertently add to the problem.
With hope, heart, humor, and science, Jessica weaves a path to a happy, healthy life full of confidence and joy.
Please allow an additional 4 to 6 working days before dispatch. Like Louise Hay’s perennial bestsellers, Power Thought Cards and Wisdom Cards, the Life Loves You Cards contain affirmations that plant seeds for personal growth and transformation.
Created by Louise Hay and Robert Holden, co-authors of Life Loves You: 7 Spiritual Practices to Heal Your Life, these cards, like their book, explore the deeper meaning and practical application of Louise’s signature affirmation ‘life loves you’.
Each of the 52 cards contains an affirmation to practice on one side and on the other, an inspiring message to encourage self-inquiry and positive action. , As an example, the card for the affirmation Life loves you contains the following text on the reverse side: Life loves us all.
Look at yourself in a mirror. Breathe in and say ‘Life loves me’. , As you breathe out, smile. Repeat ten times.
I love Louise Hay and I love all her cards and these are very good you can set them around on little easels or use them for book markers and they’re just great thoughts to remind you to be positive. This particular deck Robert Holden helped her make and they’re quite different than the rest of her cards but very good.
This deck has only 52 cards in comparison to Louise as usual 64 cards.
Jay Shetty, social media superstar and host of the #1 podcast On Purpose, distills the timeless wisdom he learned as a monk into practical steps anyone can take every day to live a less anxious, more meaningful life.
When you think like a monk, you’ll understand: -How to overcome negativity -How to stop overthinking -Why comparison kills love -How to use your fear -Why you can’t find happiness by looking for it -How to learn from everyone you meet -Why you are not your thoughts -How to find your purpose -Why kindness is crucial to success -And much more.
Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things—a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others.
After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others. Heavily in debt, and with no recognizable skills on his résumé, he moved back home in north London with his parents.
Shetty reconnected with old school friends—many working for some of the world’s largest corporations—who were experiencing tremendous stress, pressure, and unhappiness, and they invited Shetty to coach them on well-being, purpose, and mindfulness.
Since then, Shetty has become one of the world’s most popular influencers. In 2017, he was named in the Forbes magazine 30-under-30 for being a game-changer in the world of media. In 2018, he had the #1 video on Facebook with over 360 million views.
His social media following totals over 38 million, he has produced over 400 viral videos which have amassed more than 8 billion views, and his podcast, On Purpose, is consistently ranked the world’s #1 Health and Wellness podcast.
Combining ancient wisdom and his own rich experiences in the ashram, Think Like a Monk reveals how to overcome negative thoughts and habits, and access the calm and purpose that lie within all of us.
Shetty proves that everyone can—and should—think like a monk.
I have been listening to Jay Shetty’s podcast for well over a year now. Found him when I was at a very low point in life and his calming and practical wisdom was such a light for me. I was so excited when he announced his book.
Preordered it and everything!! It does not disappoint. This book encapsulates everything about Jay Shetty’s philosophy on positivity and growth. It presents science based statements, mixed with personal experiences, mixed with quotes from important texts and people, mixed with words of wisdom from the monks he studied with, all while inspiring the reader to grow/think personally.
There are cute little drawings and comics that summarize the main points and tips and tricks that you can actually apply to your daily life right away. I am captivated by every page and stay up way too late reading it.
Can’t wait to finish it and reread it probably multiple times because it is that good and has that much incredible information in it. My only complaint, is that I miss hearing Jay’s voice while reading it.
Wow, this book is jam-packed with so much wisdom. If you take the time to read it and work the exercises, it will change your life! Heck, it will change your life if you just read it and don’t do the exercises.
of course the change will be that much greater if you dive into it with both feet. Jay translates ancient, time tested, wisdom to make it relevant for today. From the first page this book has you challenging your beliefs, thinking about what is true and gearing up to make those changes you’ve been wanting to make.
Everything seems so simple and from the first sentence you’re looking at life and your relationship to it in a different way. Can’t recommend this highly enough. It’s a total life changer! Go for it!.
I admit, I’m one of those people who has allowed negativity and fear rule my life for far to long. Life has knocked me down more times than I want to admit. For the past few years I’ve been following Jay, but until lately I haven’t been in a place where I can take the time to delve into my life.
Jay has been able to make deep and profound concepts and make them accessible for everyone to understand and change your life for the good. This is a book to have by your side always. My copy has already been highlighted and notes in the margin.
It’s my hope that everyone will have a copy in their own personal library.
This is the Malayalam language audiobook edition of Mark Manson’s bestselling book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, translated from the English. “Fuck positivity,” Mark Manson says. In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugar-coat or equivocate.
He tells it like it is-a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected – American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.
Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better.
– Human beings are flawed and limited. Not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society and some of it is not fair or your fault, he says. Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them.
While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. – A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in the-eye moment of real talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them truly lead contented, grounded lives.
The wisdoms from this book are put in such a simple and engaging manner I have had no worries remembering them in my day to day life. It’s a book about serious matter executed in a deliciously funny way.
You can tell, that it is all delivered from experience and, unlike some self-help books, Mark Manson definitely doesn’t take himself too seriously allowing it be easy to digest and helping you to laugh at your own flaws.
Written from the perspective of a white privileged male from a wealthy background this book offers greater insights than you would expect. Essentially it is around changing the metrics by which you measure happiness and succes in life.
Good read until it hits the part where he tries to speak on issues which he obviously has no education on. For some reason he attempts to discredit trauma and sexual abuse victims. It seems to be agenda driven and dangerous for the wider community on many levels during that section.
I searched Wikipedia and feel that may be all the research he did on the subject, which quite frankly is disgustingly reckless. He gets back to his points which is the meat of the book but for me it tainted the book and any respect I held for the author.
From acclaimed psychologist Dr. Shad Helmstetter comes a life-changing guide to helping you help yourself through motivational self-talk and positive thinking. Imagine relying on yourself to optimize your outlook, focus your plans, and keep you on top, in touch, and going for it! You can do it, by adopting the simple techniques of self-talk, and understanding the power of key phrases like these: I choose my thoughts.
No thought, at any time, can dwell in my mind without my permission. I have talents, skills and abilities–and I’m discovering new talents all the time. I take time to listen and communicate. I’m patient and understanding.
It’s worth working at, and I do. I focus my attention on the things I can control. If l can’t affect it or direct it–I accept it. I know that what I believe about myself is what l will become–so I believe in the best for myself.
Acclaimed psychologist Dr. Shad Helmstetter shows you how to make positive self-talk a permanent habit. Give yourself the kind, loving, determined support you would give to your best friend. Harness the power of the ultimate motivator–you!.
Great book. From page 152 onwards there are examples of affirmations to say to yourself. Whether you want to quit smoking, lose weight, change habits, etc. This one differs from others as it considers the permanence of your affirmations.
I read it in 4 days. 200 pages. Definitely a book to work on afterwards.
I see no cons in this Book unless you don’t buy into the initial premise. It has been my go-to resource for dealing with my self defeating challenges. I loaned it to someone and obviously they never returned it because of its value, so I had to find a new one.
‘The author seems to assume both that they have some commentary worth their while as well as implicitly getting respected for that. While amongst the readers, they may be those that don’t feel that they want to contribute further on the subject, even though they feel their thoughts worthwhile, nor would they be likely to asume that they would be respected for having those views.
Somewhat akin to explaining reactionary politics to a liberal activist. So the question remains only clinical; does talking to yourself depend upon what you say to yourself or upon what you omit, paraphrase, re-ificate or plain and simply do NOT say to yourself? The answer may be only the proverbial pudding; but Mr Helmstetter seems to be of the persuasion that there exists some formula for an individual, presumably his clients, should communicate to themselves.
Aside from the lapses of style; suppose that you re-interpret what you say using another language or some period style of speech, Mr Helmstetter seems to be saying that talking to th e self amounts to a sort of ‘self-confession.
‘ While there are still any number of perspectives that are not considered; the speaker could be a repeat victim of crimes, from some alien, or non-native, culture or they may be handicapped. Particularly if the speaker were to be linguistically handicapped, with defective dentures, congenital deformities of voice cavities or other, to the extent that they could not possibly pronounce certain sounds or words.
So that the whole premise of talking to yourself ignores the idea that the individual may either ultimately or only ever, have themself for an audience. So the reader with those doubts, as to exactly the way that they may sound to themself, may have only further doubt or even confusion upon reading the book, but at least they are advanced to some degree beyond where there would not be a single word, from anybody, spoken in behalf of their defense or to their credit, either.
Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. When confronted with their lack of boundaries, they ask: – Can I set limits and still be a loving person? – What are legitimate boundaries? – What if someone is upset or hurt by my boundaries? – How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy, or money? – Aren’t boundaries selfish? – Why do I feel guilty or afraid when I consider setting boundaries? John Townsend offer biblically-based answers to these and other tough questions, showing us how to set healthy boundaries with our parents, spouses, children, friends, co-workers, and even ourselves.
One of the best books you’ll ever buy. And no, don’t think it’s not for you and that ‘it’s only for people who need it’. We ALL have boundary issues, and deal with people who have boundary issues. These issues are the main reason for all those relationship issues we have at home, and in the workplace (eg toxic workplaces anyone?).
You’ll 100% get something good out of it. There’s wisdom in practically every page. For those that are not Christian, it has Bible verses (as wisdom references), but for those who don’t prefer they can just read over them.
You’ll want refer back to this book again and again. It’s that good.
As with all new books, I opened to see a page or two, and I couldn’t put it down. In the beginning, authors describe what it’s like to live with injured boundries, and all I could utter was ‘I know, right?!!’ To anyone who wants to learn how to take your power back and be in full charge of your life regardless of actions of others or circumstances life throws at you, I highly HIGHLY recommend this book.
For years I have been searching for answers that are found on the pages of this book. Countless friends, coworkers, councelors, therapists, and other books don’t hold a candle to this best seller. This is a life changer, and I am so grateful that a still small voice miraculously lead me to it.
After decades of abuse and mental/emotional enslavement, my life was all about anticipating needs of everyone around me and fulfilling whatever others wanted. Now that my higher power has brought me out of my version of slavery two years ago, I guess I was ready to learn this.
Read it, pass it on. If you are stressed beyond measure, timid, or live for others, this is the best investment in your well being other then learning from divine truth dot cm. I just know it will be a blessing.
This was highly recommended to. me but I found the constant bible reference and quotes to be off putting. I can normally filter that stuff out but it is really heavy handed and distracting. not my thing.
Mite be good for a bible talk group looking to delve into certain topics. If you’re religious in thst way you will love it! Aside from that the topics weren’t new ideas so I was glad I found it used and cheap.

From the author of the international mega-bestseller The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck comes a counterintuitive guide to the problems of hope. Yet, somehow everything seems to be irreparably and horribly f*cked—the planet is warming, governments are failing, economies are collapsing, and everyone is perpetually offended on Twitter.
What’s going on? If anyone can put a name to our current malaise and help fix it, it’s Mark Manson. In 2016, Manson published The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck, a book that brilliantly gave shape to the ever-present, low-level hum of anxiety that permeates modern living.
Instead, the “subtle art” of that title turned out to be a bold challenge: to choose your struggle; to narrow and focus and find the pain you want to sustain. The result was a book that became an international phenomenon, selling millions of copies worldwide while becoming the #1 bestseller in 13 different countries.
Now, in Everthing Is F*cked, Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us. Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another.
He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive. He openly defies our definitions of faith, happiness, freedom—and even of hope itself.
It’s another counterintuitive romp through the pain in our hearts and the stress of our soul. One of the great modern writers has produced another book that will set the agenda for years to come.
