20 Best Bike Shoes For Flat Pedals (2022 Updated)

For the record, I am currently writing this review with Freeriders on my L foot, and these Shimanos on my R foot. I’ve ridden multiple times with both now, and think I have enough to give an honest review.

Sizing: I wear a size US12 and have these in a EU47 (US11. 8 is what it says on the tongue label). I have zero issues with this size fwiw. Overall Score: 9. 5/10 Pros: Awesome looks, stiff soles, option for cleats, elastic “lace-tucker thing” on tongue, easy to clean material, very durable, well-made laces, very comfortable on hikeabikes, grippy rubber soles for flat pedals Cons: With the durability and stiffness, comes added weight.

They are slightly more heavier than my Freeriders. Also, my feet are a bit on the wide side, and these are *slightly* more narrow than my Freeriders. Still very comfortable, but I wish they were a bit wider in the arch-bed.

Compare these side by side with other mtn bike shoes, and these are noticeably wider (which is good for me). Only removing 0. 5 points for the weight and width, but still I like these better than my Freeriders.

Fit is good, as long as you get the right size for you. They seem to be a little smaller size-wise. I normally wear 10. 5 US (Asics, Merrell, etc. ) which per Shimano translates to size 45 European. However, these shoes were about half-size smaller than what I needed.

So, to be comfortable I had to get the size 46 which is a tiny bit larger, but definitely better than smaller. The width was fine in both sizes. Otherwise, they are comfortable, seem easy to clean and look casual without being pretensions.

Walking is ok as the sole is supposed to be stiffer than normal shoes and cleats don’t help either (especially on a rocky trail). Overall, they a good for the purpose.

I have a wide foot and these are the only flat pedal MTB shoe that is actually shaped like a ?real?human foot. The toe box on these is wider than basically any other MTB flat pedal shoe on the market, believe me I tried them all on.

Even Specialized highly praised 2FO roost. I wear a size 10 US in Chuck Taylors and got these in a size 45EU which is around a size 11 US. If you have a normal foot the sizing is probably dead on for you.

These aren?t the stiffest shoe, but they aren?t soft by any means. The soles on mine are finally falling apart after two years of riding. The grip is great though no problems there. The shoes work great with my Kona Wah pedals and my Shimano XT wide pedals.

They are definitely worth the coin I just wish there was more shoe options for wide footed riders.

Purchased in November 2021 and received in December, Red/Mesa in size 10 (normally a size 10 in most shoes). I’ve only really used it for 1 full wet enduro ride. Having come from tradition mid-height skate shoes, these are fairly close to a mid-shoe.

I have fairly flat feet and the shoe fit a little narrow in the arch area but toe box is quite spacious. I’m finding that my feet are punching out the arch area of the shoe. Length is fairly accurate however if not a bit on the longer side.

I found the grip to be adequate but not great with Composite Deity Compound flats. I struggled with the grip in the middle of the pedal and feet moved around quite a bit more than expected, however it was slightly better than the average skate shoe.

Pedal feel was low however the shoe is not quite broken in yet. I’m hoping for a little more flex to better feel the pedals. I knew that the Red/Mesa colour wouldn’t stay that way for long and within the first ride the inner side of the shoe was made black from crank rub, mostly on the drive side.

Looking forward to a few more rides to get a better feel for these shoes and will try a different set of pedals to see if it makes any difference!.

I am surprised that five ten have not fixed their women’s sizing issue. or when Adidas took them over, they didn’t match to regular shoe sizing. I bought these for my daughter and she is a standard 9.

These arrived, she tried them on, and they are huge. And not only in length but the body as well. I can not see anything women specific with these, except for the turquoise colour. But they didn’t even shrink it and pink it.

They got the sizing incorrect. I remembered the same thing happened when I bought mine about 5 years ago. I am a solid 8, but they were too big, so I returned them for a 7. I never wear a 7. These shoes last and are great quality and I love my pair.

They are the best brand out there. But the women’s sizing is wrong and I would hope that they would build a shoe for women that were slightly narrow, maybe lighter, and a smaller compartment, so it actually fit a “typical” women’s foot which is smaller and thinner.

If you are a women and you fit these shoes well, why do we need a specific shoe? Just buy the unisex one. Unless the colour outline is that important to you.

I road bike usually 20-50 miles, mostly in the southern hot sun and have been looking for a comfortable replacement road bike shoe for a long time. I am a mens 8. 5 D. i tried on the grey in the store and it felt like my years of shopping were finally over but I wanted black and so mail ordered the other color.

I quickly noticed the black was sized slightly tighter, but didn’t think much of it. I kept them, but that was a mistake. These disappointed. They are sized small for me, don’t seem to fit well and hurt my feet after just 15-20 miles.

They do not breathe. They are actually warm/hot even though I have only been wearing them in the colder/winter months so my feat sweat and get wet and then cold. They do not have a lace stay of any kind but that has not been an issue.

These have a sticky sole and on my smaller flat platforms with no screws, they have not slipped other than a couple of times. I have a pair of Salomon shoes which have been a llot more warm, dry and comfortable than these for distance recreational riding.

Very narrow fit causes pain. Once broken in after many months of pain, eventually it did get comfortable. However, soon after, the suede around the lace eyelets failed on one of the shoes. IMO it is a design flaw if you see how it is constructed, forces from the toe box are exerted directly to the material around the bottom eyelets.

If you’re okay with months of break in followed by quick material failure then these are the MTB shoes for you. Very disappointing. I’ve never seen suede/leather shoes fail in this way even after years of use biking.

These were not crashed or abused. I take care of my gear.

Note I have a wide and tall foot. Unfortunately these were too small for my 8 Wide (tried 8’s). These were cute enough that I might reorder the 8. 5 to try. No experience with them since they didn’t fit.

Not sure how grippy they are with the inverted dots. The other pair (Hellion Elite, same brand) that had the dots stand out made sucking noises on my hardwood floor when I tried them on (also too small in the same size) and weren’t nearly as cute looking.

Just bought these shoes last month and after some riding with them, and building , I really like the comfort, durability, support and stiffness of the sole. I have tried 5/10s in the past, but these have far more support, and the sole of the shoe bends far less.

Mountain bike shoes are meant for bike. They are not meant for walking. This shoe will hold great to your pedals but I wouldn’t recommend running a marathon in them.

This is my first time writing flats As I have mainly been a clip in paddle rider. However, I upgraded the bike this past year and I’m writing more steep enduro type terrain. Right out of the box the quality of the shoes is undeniable.

They fit very true to size. I called the company to verify how the shoes fit and they were spot on. They can be singed down quite a bit so if your feet are narrow or thin you shouldn’t have a problem with normal sizing.

I like the ankle guard on the inside of the shoes. The soul grabs my pedals very well. I ride race face Chester‘s. They are just stiff enough for better pedaling feel but flexible enough to be comfortable.

It’s getting a bit cooler up here in the Northeast so I’m not really sure whether or not the shoes will hold the heat that some people have said but that has never really bothered me much. These are quality shoes from a good name and a great price and I would definitely recommend them.

Cambria bike shipped to them quickly, their checkout process was very easy, and they have a lot of great pricing on a lot of their gear and parts.

Pros: Great quality; great protection for the insides of your ankles and for your toes (very sturdy construction); it’s a great looking shoe (better than anything FiveTen has put out in my opinion); it has a stiff bottom, that does not flex on the pedals, which is a “pro” if you want better arch support from your riding shoe.

Cons: The stiff bottom of this shoe prevents it from wrapping around the pedal like the Freeriders. My Freeriders feel like a monkey grabbing a tree branch compared to the way these 3. 0’s sit on the pedal.

The rubber on the 3. 0’s is no match for the Freeriders with respect to grip. I also find that the pattern on the bottom of the 3. 0’s makes it more difficult for me to make slight adjustments on the pedal while riding.

I have a difficult time getting my feet to the “home” position on the pedals. Summary: I love the way the 3. 0’s look and I wish that FiveTen would make a Freerider that looks more like the 3. 0’s. It seems like the Freeriders have looked the same for the last Five-to-Ten years.

About the Reviewer: I’m a mid-forties freerider who loves throwing 1 foot off the pedals when airborne, so I am extremely picky about my riding shoes.

I just started riding flat pedals. I found these on Cambria on sale and decided to give them a try. I’m glad I did. These fit me great. I have a wide toe box but not wide heels and have trouble finding shoes that fit me.

I laced these up and could tell they were the right shoe for me. They are very secure with no slippage anywhere but I still have plenty of toe room. I don’t have any other flat shoes to compare the grip to but the tread seems to grip the pins very well.

The front of the shoe has great protection as well. I’m amazed that such a stiff, protective shoe can be so comfortable for me. Great job Leatt!.

First pair of actual MTB shoes I’ve owned. I’ve had them for about 9 months now and used them about 2 to 3 times a week. I have a narrow heel and a pretty wide forefoot so it took a little breaking in to get these shoes to feel comfortable.

The heels did slip initially when hiking uphill but after a handful of uses, they fit like gloves. The shoe is super durable and sticks to the pedal platform really well. I have tried a few different pedals (Kona Wah Wah composite and alloy and currently using the OneUp composite pedals).

I’ve found the OneUp pedal and this shoe have worked the best together. The Upper is relatively water resistant but won’t keep your feet dry from large amounts of water. Toe Bumper on the front is great and the speed lacing system is nice for avoid loose laces from getting caught in the cranks.

there’s a lot of mixed reviews on this shoes over the internet. Some say they’re great, some not so much. I decided that I had to check them up myself. The shoes are awesome. they sit over the pedal just right, and when it’s time to drop the heels, they stay there.

The sole is sturdy enough, but not so much that you can’t walk on them. The high is just right to bring protection to your ankles. Not the freshest of shoes, but you don’t want them to walk on the beach.

The strap covers the laces son you can forget about loose ties for good. Finally, and the main reason for my purchase, they look great. nuff said.

I was hoping these would fit and be comfortable. I read the reviews and ordered my actual size walking shoes (8. 5) they are too short and narrow at toes. These shoes are also very heavy compared to my 510’s.

My 510’s are causing toe numbness so I thought I would try these and right out of the box I would say you need to size up from your regular running/walking shoes.

I purchased these shoes for commuting and general (light) mtb riding. I great street shoe and very comfortable (the black can be worn from bike to office chair). Probably not suitable for rowdy DH as sole is not that firm with too much flex (go up a couple of levels in Leatt range).

Grip is good in the dry but bit slippery on metal in the wet, (pedal pins only providing the grip). They have also become my goto casual/knockabout shoe. Size is accurate as the shoe construction is not beefy.

Have the blue/Onyx in these as well – great with jeans. Fabric is suede like and durable – I scotchguard them occasionally to increase water resistance/beading. Breathability is OK, could be hot in mid summer.

Can’t comment on long term durability yet. (In the higher Leatt range, I went up one size due to firmer and beefier construction).

As a beginner mountain biker I saw all the dedicated flat pedal shoes and wondered why they cost so much, but when the red color went on sale, I jumped. I normally take a wide shoe, which wasn’t available, so I bought a half size up and the fit was perfect.

I have not ridden in vans or five tens, so I can’t really compare them, but the shoes do the job and after 2 months they still look new. My riding has not noticeably improved, but the sale price makes these shoes the least expensive piece of gear I’ve invested in.

No regrets.

I sent them back! way to small. I measured foot and still wrong. My mistake I know but it just should state size 11 in Australia = This size. Too confusing and time consuming, I will just purchase clothing and footwear instore as its safer.

It cost me $20 to return and I found some nicer ones in the local store anyway.

At that price you can’t find any better. I am super happy with this pair of shoes. Reccomended

I am used to just cycling in generic trainers and was blown away by how much more grip and stability these shoes offered on flat pedals. Good value at the discounted price. Too early to comment on longevity but quality appears good.

I am a 8 (42) size and they are a little tight with waterproof socks but a 9 would have been too big. Shame there are no half sizes.

Very good shoes for street trials riding at least. Just the right sole stiffness, ankle mobility is good with no worry of foot coming out. Sizing for me is same as Nike trainers. Like the colouring too.

Running extra long pins for added grip and not slipped off yet.

Nice shoes with really grippy feeling sole. The fit was not perfect for me and for my correct foot length they came up a little small. They do feel on the entry level end in terms of looks however I would have been able to live with this if the fit was good.

I returned mine but these are certainly worth a look for the price.

I work for Ride Concept, and I actually love the company and their products. All of our mountain shoes are built with a specific last and flex for men and women. I would consider myself an enduro style rider/ armature racer, climbing for exercise (sigh) but mostly to earn an awesome descent.

The Hellion Elite is the shoe I ride in most. This shoe is comfortable right out of the box and has a plethora of bells and whistles. The outsole comes with the “Max Grip” rubber, a super grippy material that has you feeling glued to the pedal.

The outsoles also offer great support, noticeably firm for excellent power transfer with just enough flexibility for pedal feel. Hellion Elites are a great looking shoe and are also super easy to clean up.

I use a terry cloth or baby wipe and clean away any dirt or mud from the soft outer microfiber material. They also come with an antimicrobial mesh internally to keep the stink at bay. This shoe is awesome for long rides up and down the hill, with a D30 insoles and TPU toe and heel protection, just in case you catch your foot between a rock and a hard place.

*Size Note* Because of the added toe protection, our shoes can sometimes feel a bit smaller due to the fact they do not have as much flex in the material at the toe. I run between an 8 and 8. 5 in most shoes and I am comfortable in an 8.

5 Hellion Elite and enjoy my toe’s safe haven. Try some on and tell us what you think. A few other niceties like a fully gusseted tongue to keep the dirt out and your foot feeling secure, a lace tuck to keep your laces from flopping about, an awesome layer of EVA in the midsole for a cush ride and the fact they are made of partially recycled material all make me feel good about wearing this shoe.

The Hellion Elite is a fantastic all around shoe that I have in many colors because it is awesome!.

I came to these RC Heliion Elites from the basic 5-10 Freeriders, which I didnt llike. These have a stiffer sole compared to Freerider, which is perfect for biking. The fit seems super comfortable to me, with an average width and high arches.

I ordered a half size bigger based on reviews below and found them to be a bit too large. So I would say fit is about right. They have round laces, which are a huge improvement over flat laces for any athletic shoes because they stay tied and don’t get twisted up.

These RC’s include an elastic strap on the tongue to keep the laces out of your chain ring, which is kinda important. They are much more comfortable to walk in than the Freeriders, which makes it easier to hike-a-bike when needed.

Comfortable for the gym and around town too, until they get too trashed on the trail. The sole is excellent on pedals, but not as sticky on the pedal as Freeriders. However, i think I like this better because Freeriders can be hard to adjust foot position once you put it down while riding.

Ventilation is okay, but I would prefer more.

they feel fine. from reviews I did go half a size up. I normally wear 8. 5 and i got a size 9. they fit just right. I do wish they were wider in the toes area of the shoes. my feet aren’t very big and i don’t have any problems with the normal Reeboks, Adidas, Saucony, and Asics i’ve ever gotten.

But it seems to be this way with the cycling shoes where the toes are tighter. Before buying these i did try on a pair of 5/10s in the store and they felt comfy. But i do remember the 5/10s having a similar issue with the toes as well.

They are nice and stiff on the soles which i like for riding. My previous riding shoes which i still have are a pair of vans I really hate them. Vans are so uncomfortable. they squeeze my feet so tight I feel that i can’t wait to get out of them.

Vans also have no cushion on the bottom which makes them so uncomfortable to walk in. RC are comfortable to walk in and are so much more comfortable than the Vans. Still these RC are not as comfortable than my Reeboks, Adidas, Saucony or Asics for everyday wear.

My biggest issues with these shoes as compared to my other everyday shoes is that they are not as roomy in the toes area. I never had to get wide size shoes but I’m thinking RC making a wide version of these in the toes would be better for everyone.

I don’t have big feet and I never had to get special sizing, this is why I think RC might want to look at making the toes area wider just a bit.

First things first- the fitment of this shoe is great and I hope they don’t stop selling them any time soon. I chose these over the 510’s because the instep seems to be wider and puts less pressure on my foot(I have pretty flat/wide feet) and it feels much more comfortable overall.

About a week ago I finished up a trail ride and left my shoes on the roof of my car when I was putting away my gear. Absentmindedly I forgot they were on top of the car and drove off. A few miles down the busiest road in my city I heard a clunk and didn’t think anything of it-until I pulled up to a stop light and the driver next to me motioned to roll my window down.

“There’s a shoe on your roof. ” Panic ensued. I quickly stopped and retrieved the lone shoe from my room. I chalked it up to a loss, disappointed, but hey, who wouldn’t be excited to replace them with a brand new pair? Several hours passed and I went about my day until it came time to drive back home.

I thought to myself, “well heck, maybe I can still find the remnants of the shoe and can properly dispose of them. ” I drove past the spot of the clunk and no more than a few yards away I spotted it- the prodigal brother to the shoe sitting in my passenger seat.

I pulled over into a parking lot and ran over to the shoe. Upon inspection I saw in amazement the shoe was almost as in good condition as when it had taken its fateful fall. The heal counter was slightly bent, likely from being run over a handful of times, but was otherwise a completely intact and rideable shoe.

I’m still looking forward to new shoe day but that day won’t be as soon as I had thought. Thanks for making such a durable shoe, Specialized. Also lesson learned: don’t forget your shoes on the roof.

i’ve had these for a couple months, all winter riding, often quite. as mentioned the outsole is incredible. i’ve had a number of 5. 10’s and these are as sticky or more with a firmer overall feel. the midsole has more structure than some shoes in a good way.

the upper fabric is quite stiff. mostly this is fine, and i suspect they will break in more, especially as it gets sweaty out. minor gripes; i find the tongue a bit short, the laces a bit short. it’s a fine line IMO with performance shoes, balancing comfort and riding performance.

yes as mentioned these are a bit stiff, the materials a bit firm, but over a long ride, especially a damp one, there is something to be said for this kind of shoe in that it delivers a lot of support.

i prefer a high end footbed and quality socks will go a long way to aiding comfort. i suspect these will be durable and soften up a bit, but time will tell.

I have the non Adidas Freeriders in size 7. 5 and they sort of pinch my feet and they go numb during rides. I also have a pair of Leatt shoes i love, but i wanted to check out the Freerider pros. In outdoor shoes where my feet swell, i am a true 7.

I initially bought the Freerider Pros in 7. 5 and they felt huge, so Adidas fixed the weird large sizing that previous Five Tens had. I exchanged for a 7 and they fit MUCH better. I love the new laces, they stay in place really well and feel “grippy” if that makes sense.

They dont become untied, which is a bonus. Although i do feel like the laces are still a little on the long side. it would be nice to have a little tab to stuff the spare lace into. The shoe is so grippy that if i happen to come off pedal, i have to be real fast to get my positioning back or i am all wonky.

but once my foot is set, my feet are like glue on my flats. My feet dont go numb anymore either. the ankle isnt as cushy and padded as my other freeriders–but the bulky padding on my other freeriders have shifted and it feels like when the pad of a bra goes wonky and its just off on its own.

i feel like my feet have stayed pretty dry in these too. i got caught in a rain storm recently and although i got wet and my feet were wet, i wasnt too cold and i didnt feel like i had buckets of water sloshing about.

Maybe in the winter i will be more cold, but then i have sealskinz on, so that helps. i wasnt a fan at first, but once you get the sizing right then you will love this shoe.

Had the a pair of Freeriders, loved them, thought they were great and then I got a pair of the Freerider Pros and now realize what I had been missing out on that whole time. The FPs stay put! You don’t have to try to keep them on the pedals, they just do.

They aren’t as comfy as the Freeriders but they also haven’t gotten in my way while pedaling, and they’ve helped keep my feet gripped saving my shins from nasty pedal strikes. I’m impressed. Sometimes you wonder, ‘is there really that big of a difference between the $100 shoe and the $150 one?!!’ Yes.

These are great mountain biking shoes. The sole is very grippy and sticks to the flat pedals really well. My other pair lasted almost 4 years before the sole started tearing up so I would say they last longer than others reported.

They are very comfortable and the sole has enough stiffness to be efficient on the pedals. All in all, a great shoe.

Usando già Adidas e mettendo il modello e la misura, mi è stata consigliata la mia stessa misura che suo quotidianamente, ed in effetti la misura è esatta, potrebbe dar fastidio un pò la punta nei primi periodi, ma non perchè la misura sia errata, ma perchè la punta, come scritto precedentemente, è rinforzata e non morbida, quindi bisogna abituarsi.

Io lo trovo un articolo fantastico per praticare MTB, poi grazie ad Alltricks, ho potuto acquistarle ad un prezzo ottimo. Consiglio ad occhi chiusi.
