20 Best Beach Chairs For Plus Size (2022 Updated)

I was so looking forward to getting these chairs. Opened the box, great quality down to the bag! Excellent color for the summer! Unfolds quick and easy. Sturdy and light. Now all that good stuff said, it’s only good for young children or any adult that DOES NOT want to rest their head.

I read reviews of this chair on other websites described as high back. People have described it as “great for the beach to rest your head”. uh, maybe if your 4′ tall. It has a nicely padded upper back area that’s mostly useless.

Would be perfect if only taller. Oh well, target has a great return policy.

Sturdy chair, I like it because you’re not sitting directly on the ground/sand like most beach chair. Doesn’t lean back too far or sit too straight up. Very comfortable.

I bought 2 last year for our beach outings, and park trips. Had to have two more! These pack well and are durable , and easy to carry. Love the design

This chair is comfortable, easily adjusted, light enough to move around and has convenient storage. Love the color too! First I got one for me. My daughter-in-law loved it, so I got 2 more for her and our son.

Then I added one more for my husband and today I ordered 2 more so we could all sit around the campfire together. So, yes, I really do recommend this chair to everyone.

I was looking for a chair that would sit up higher and not get sand stuck in the joints for the beach. This was the best we could find. Being someone with stiff painful knees I would prefer the seat of this chair sit up a bit higher.

I am 5’5″ tall by the way. Also, the cell phone holder and the cup holder could be deeper and more accommodating for different size drinking vessels.

I recently moved from N. Y. C. to Jacksonville FL. I am a beach lover, since all my life I’ve lived close to the beach. I spent hours after hours doing research prior to choosing a beach chair. I finally chose the “big-boy” chair for its comfort and how accessible it is to get in and out of it.

All other chairs I had before were very uncomfortable and to get in and out of the chair I need it to hold someone’s hand or rolled out of it into the floor. NO MORE. This chair is super comfy, easy access and light weight…I love it.

Only one complaint is that my butt sits on the seam at the back of the chair sit. It can be annoying so I thought about return it to BBB. However after I had re-packed it for return I began researching for another comparable chair but one that had a continuous cloth from the sit to the back…NO LUCK.

All the other ones that have a full sit and back cloth are either to close to the floor or to narrow at the sit!! Needless to say the chair is out of the box and back in the car trunk for the next beach trip.

A suggestion that works is to extend a beach towel over the back and the sit and then you won’t feel the seam :).

This is a very nice beach sling chair. Well constructed, great color for the beach. We own other Kijaro chairs which we love (think soccer games). Didn’t hesitate to purchase this brand. Unfortunately for us, they are too heavy to carry/manage.

With lugging coolers, beach toys, beach bags, towels, these chair were just too much. Would I recommend them to others, absolutely. Sorry, but we will be retuning them.

Just what we expected. Sling back and so comfortable. Heavy duty frame and heavy duty material. Worth every penny! Now we can enjoy the beach or outdoor events without being uncomfortable.

Broke in 4 months. Great features but didn’t get to use it at beach yet. Bought it for my husbands birthday. He only used it in the garage and weighs 145. The front piece on the legs crossbar bent and pulled out.

I would not recommend to buy for many reasons. #1 Handles not comfortable, can’t rest your arms and makes it hard to stand, arms can’t be used for support. #2 No strap to carry on beach, must be placed back into back into bag to transport.

Then the bag to becomes sandy. #3 Foam arms became damaged while packed into trunk of car. #4 Back of legs without caps, so legs became filled with sand, making it impossible to fold, so had to carry it open off the beach.

#5 It may have a pocket on the bag, but it doesn’t have a snap closure to protect your belongings, so I was glad that I had a baggie to put my car keys in while sitting down by the water. #5 Cover comes off to easily.

#6 To heavy Don’t waste your money. $40 down the drain.

We used these chairs for a two-week beach vacation. We bought them because of the high ratings and compact size. We agree with the ratings that the chairs are quite comfortable and sturdy considering the price point.

The chairs were used on dry and damp sand. Each day after leaving the beach, we rinsed the chairs with fresh water with a spray nozzle to remove the salt water and sand. Just 3 days after the beginning of our trip, the chairs began to rust as shown in the picture and were difficult to fold.

Sand also sticks into the plastic foot and does not allow easy folding. I would not buy these chairs again and would not recommend them for any one else using them on the beach. I am disappointed as Coleman is a trusted brand and I plan to pursue this complaint further with the company.

I was very excited to receive this beach chair to use on my 2 week vacation. The first day on the beach, this chair was great, comfortable and I enjoyed sitting by the waters edge and having the waves keep my feet cool.

Unfortunately, the next day, I took the chair out of the bag, opened it up and sat down. It didnt feel as comfortable as the pervious day. At first I couldnt figure it out but as I was pulling the cup holder out I realized what was wrong.

One side of the metal base wasnt attached to the underside anymore. I flipped it over and saw that the washer and screw were both missing. We quickly scanned the area for them which was impossible because, well, we were in soft sand.

The first 2 pictures show the side that lost the screw and the side that is in tact. The 3rd is of the metal bar sticking out on the side.

On a family vacation we brought our 6 week old baby to the beach. Of course we had so much stuff her out of the sun and comfortable. This chair was fantastic to gather all her things in, and was super easy to roll down to the beach.

One parent had all the necessities in this chair leaving the other free to carry the baby carefully and safely to the beach. I even thought this would be a great chair to take camping as well. Only downfall it does take up some serious space, but it folds really neatly and flat.

I Re-Sell these & they are Fantastic! I also bought 2 for my Wife & I for her B-Day. Yes, this Item is definitely nice enough to give a Woman whom has everything! She was super excited. Here is the Kicker: Dont but it because you want to haul your 44 Purses with the Cart Function.

Im 99% sure I just shot myself in the Foot by narcing out the Resale Aspect! I had to though as I could NOT imagine fellow Beach-Goers not having this Awesome Beach Chair; when I saw the Tards whom put Bad Reviews up.

I read all of the reviews and was still hoping this chair would work for the beach. I went over some pretty deep sand and it was still wayyy easier than using wagons. I felt like a champ at the beach.

I am buying another one for my friends that vacation with us as a Christmas present. LOVE THIS CHAIR!!! it made life at the beach so much easier!!! Just wish I would’ve had this chair sooner.

These chairs look great, are comfortable, and most importantly for us seniors, they are easier to get up from. However there is one glaring problem that we have experienced on both of the chairs we bought in August of 2020 but have used for only one season.

The white straps are cheap and do not hold up. I can’t carry the chairs backpack style anymore because the white straps have torn in several places. Correct this problem and you’ll have a great chair Tommy Bahama!.

This chair is light, comfortable, and aluminum doesn’t rust. They fold into wearable backpacks with storage, which had proven to be a lifesaver. They sit roughly 12 inches above the sand. The headrest can be flipped up or back as is expedient depending on how you sit.

Build quality seems solid. There is not much more you could want in a chair, and this is a great price.

Took it to Myrtle Beach. Fairly lightweight and comfortable to wear on the back. Shade worked nicely. Kind of pricey but hopefully I get a few good years use out of it.

We live at the beach 🏖 so having good beach chairs is a must. RIO makes many practical, affordable and well made beach chairs in a wide variety of fun summer patterns. This particular chair has thick colorful canvas fabric, a moveable drink holder that is tucked underneath the right arm and can rotate to the side of the chair making it easy to hold just about any beverage.

Permanently attached underneath the left arm is a convenient zippered pocket large enough to hold my iPhone 6S Plus my husband’s iPhone 12 Pro. Another smaller pocket with a Velcro closure sits on top of the larger pocket.

The most convenient thing is the shoulder strap that allows you to keep your hands free while carrying it to the beach or the pool. Overall I think the chair is worth it.

The beach chair selection for older people who need higher chairs is slim. I bought this chair and on the first day of use the pocket on the side came off and I was unable to reattach it. Now 2 months later I already see signs of wear and rust on the chair.

For the price I paid this should it have happened. The chairs are not made as well as they were years ago but are more expensive.

It’s really wide and solid, and it sits up off the ground so you can get out more easily than the low chairs, but not as high as a regular chair. The arm rests are wood and very solid so you can push off to get up.

You lift the arms to allow it to recline the backrest. It looks exactly as it does in the picture. It isn’t super heavy and there’s a shoulder strap to carry it down the beach. It creaks a little under my 240 pounds, but I feel confident in its stability.

The shipping was super fast and the packaging was OK.

Features are as listed. Love height of the seat, back positions, cup holder, strap. One of the 2 chairs has looser hinges than expected so it rattles as we walk. But after looking at several “ in store” chairs at the beach, this shade cover can’t be beat.

Received this chair three days ago so I can only report on setting it up in my living room and sitting in it briefly. It will be a few months before I can use it at the beach since it is winter with a snow forecast today.

The chair is lightweight but sturdy. It looks to be made of aluminium like a typical lawn chair but this is a chair for sitting in the sand. It is low to the ground like a typical beach chair and reclines by pulling up on the armrests.

It reclines completely flat if you want or in a tilted position if you prefer. The body portion of the chair is mesh which will allow air drying of your bathing suit. Also, it looks like sand would sift through so not to accumulate in an uncomfortable manner.

The edge of the chair, almost at your knees, is a solid canvas as is the very top in the head area. In the reclining position your knees and lower legs are not supported. Therefore, your feet will be in the sand like with any other beach style chair.

There is a small pillow for your head but I didn’t find it comfortable. If necessary I will flip the pillow back or add to it with a rolled up towel. A canvas drink holder with mesh bottom is attached to the the right side of the chair.

There were no instructions included but none were needed. The chair opens like a typical lawn type chair. There are two adjustable straps on the backside of the chair for carrying as a backpack. I don’t think I would use it that way because it was clumsy for me.

All in all this is a very nice chair and should be durable.

These chairs are really nice high up off the ground. Easy to get out of. You can wear it as a backpack so no worries about being too heavy to carry. The neck pillow makes it more comfortable to sit in and there’s a four position recliner feature.

The cup holder fits a 12 ounce water, soda or beer can without a coozie. All in all a great chair. Not sure how the hold up just bought them. Based on other reviews they’re pretty good quality which is why I bought them.

We read a lot of reviews on several pages at the different stores. No one was able to answer anywhere to anybody how tall the chairs are so from floor to seat they are 16”. Floor to top of back of chair 36”.

Width of chair 19”. Hopes this helps answering a lot of peoples questions. We were curious too, we are getting older and it’s harder to get out of the lower chairs in the sand. I think these will be perfect ❤️❤️❤️.

The chair is the perfect height. Will be able to sit by the ocean and dip my toes in without having to bust a rib getting up. The attached pockets, bottle holder and closing strap/clasp will be useful.

This chair is awesome with lots of little details for your comfort. It has all these different positions. It isn’t a lounge chair with a place for your legs but it is high enough that it feels comfortable when you recline.

There is a head rest and the sturdy arms are in a very comfortable position. There is cup holder but the other side of the chair has a pocket for beach needs like sunscreen and things like keys and money.

It kinda looks like those old lawn chairs that fold up but the material is not straps weaved together. It is a solid heavy-duty canvas that will last and is soft but sturdy. And the coolest part, it has straps that you can use like a backpack.

It is super light and leaves your hands free to carry stuff to your favorite spot. With these chairs you will want to bring on summer!.

Love the simplicity and functionality of the GCI Backpack Beach Chair. Already an owner of two (2) additional GCI products and this new addition does not disappoint. Really liked the Backpack portion of the chair in addition to the Sun Shade.

Durability of the product is also very important as it had a solid feel. Will definitely look to purchase another!.

Haven’t tried it yet, but it’s a really nice chair. Not nearly as light as advertised and the backpack straps look like they won’t last through the season, but we’ll see!

I have recently had hip surgery and have great difficulty getting up from short seats. In fact I’m not supposed to sit on to short of a chair, like most portable chairs. This chair is just enough taller that you can comfortably sit in it with your feet on the floor at a regular table.

The only “complaint” I have is one of the arms is rather difficult to attach and unattached, otherwise the chair is fine.

If you have trouble getting in/out of chairs because of arthritis or other physical limitations, this chair will ease the difficulty! It’s very easy to unfold and refold, it’s very sturdy and comfortable enough.

I use a thin pillow for extra comfort. There are pockets to stash small items, also. All around great chair, I highly recommend!.

Nice chair. On the heavy side, but seems durable. Like the height, easy to get up from with bad knees. Only minor problem was one of the chair arm pins that hold the sife armrest kept coming out when taken the arm rest.

Fix problem with small screw.

Ugh, I wish I had been able to read a review like the one I’m about to write. tI took my new chair camping. It’s not wide. The most annoying uncomfortable thing is the leg part that raises isn’t flat!! It puts a lot of stress on your knees because the angle is super funky.

Also, getting up and remembering that you have to uncluck the chair part first, then raise the lever to put the leg part down is VERY frustrating! The cup holders are flimsy and you have to practically use both hands to put the drink in.

The section for the cup isn’t wide either. You can get a beer bottle in, a coke, but no coffee mug. basically any cup with a handle. The cell phone compartment next to it isn’t wide at all, and narrow on top of that.

I’m a filthy smoker, so it would have been a nice place to put your cigarettes in, that’s how thin the area is. It would be perfect for the old model of the Nokia! Lol I gave it 2 stars because the black is pretty, and it’s a sharp looking chair.

It’s just really impractical. I have a wiener dog too, she was barely able to fit comfortably. So, we can’t return them, but will just put. them on our porch.

Lounger appears to be well made and sturdy. It’s easy to operate once you spend a few minutes with the user instructions. It’s very comfortable and we appreciated the ability to lock the backrest in place while being able to operate the foot rest separately.

We bought this to use on the beach to replace a conventional beach chair. The lounger is easier to get in and out of, especially with cranky knees. As in another review, my 5’4” wife had some challenges getting in and out, however, at a not overly towering 5’8”, I had no trouble.

We’ll see what long term durability will be like. Upon returning from the beach, I hosed the chair thoroughly and let dry 24 hours before storing for the next beach trip.

I’ve had this for about a month now, used exclusively for weekend camping trips in modern midwest RV parks. No rocky mountainous, volcanic, jungle, or glacial terrains. I use it as a table for outdoor cook prep.

So far it seems fairly sturdy as I use cast iron over the campfire, so it holds a good amount of weight, up to or slightly exceeding 50 lbs without issue. My only slight issue could be considered personal, but it seems rather cumbersome to erect and fold away.

I’m not an engineer but I feel the design could be improved to make it a near one handed setup and fold down. Also, as in most telescoping legs, the designers assume that every human is born with three arms, again, maybe considered a personal issue.

Overall though I love this table and have no regrets in buying it. If it gets blown away in a tornado or stolen, I would probably replace it. I use these examples because I doubt it will break using it for what I use it for.

Who would have thought a beach chair could completely change my view of the beach! I was always an in/out/leave kind of person. Now I’m sitting back, relaxed, watching my son play or even sitting with me, or in his own chair (must be nice) having a snack whilst we watch the waves.

Truly if you are looking to enjoy and elongate your days at the beach, buy these chairs, I could not more highly recommend them. P. S. these chairs work great even on a rainy day when you can make it to the beach, the kids love sitting in them at home, playing beach, or watching a movie!!.

These chairs are the bomb! Incredibly stylish and with padded seats and back, makes them super comfy. Great for the beach, park, concerts or a sunny day in the yard! They even have a pouch at the back to store your essentials and easily transported with a shoulder strap.

Stored easily. Love everything about them!.

I have to be honest: I put the Sun ray chairs, umbrella and matching towels on my birthday list purely on design. I so love them and when I unwrapped them for my birthday I was so excited. They’re literally an Instagram shot in the making and I’m not even that into Instagram yet.

And then I sat on the chair at the beach. Wow! It’s super comfortable as well as gorgeous. I can see lots of evenings watching the sunset at the beach. Together they all look gorgeous and I can’t wait to use them as a photo shoot for my new book.
