An arrow rest is a device attached to the bow that supports the arrow during the shot. There are many different types of arrow rests, but the most common type used on recurve bows is the shelf rest. The shelf rest is a flat piece of metal or plastic that the arrow sits on during the shot.
The arrow rest serves several purposes. First, it helps to keep the arrow aligned with the bowstring. Second, it helps to prevent the arrow from bouncing off the bow during the shot. Third, it helps to protect the arrow from damage.
Fourth, it helps to reduce noise when the arrow is released.
There are a few things to consider when choosing an arrow rest. First, you need to make sure that the arrow rest is compatible with the type of bow you are using. Second, you need to make sure that the arrow rest is the right size for the arrows you are using.
Third, you need to make sure that the arrow rest is mounted in the correct position on the bow.
Arrow rests are an important part of the bow, and they can make a big difference in your shooting. If you are having trouble with your shooting, make sure to check your arrow rest to see if it is the cause of the problem.
20 Best Arrow Rest For Recurve Bow
1. Bear Archery Traditional Hair Arrow Rest
Bear Traditional Hair Arrow Rest
Quiet arrow rest and silent arrow strike plate for those who like shooting directly off the shelf
Has a carpet or thick rug style arrow rest and smooth leather side plate combination
It is a classic design, which originally was standard on every Bear recurve ever produced at Grayling and Gainesville
It has a self-adhesive foam backing for the arrow rest and strike plate
The Fred Bear Hair Arrow Rest gives you a quiet platform for your arrow to ride as you draw it back. It also gives you a smooth and silent wall against which your arrow slides. This Bear hair arrow rest and the Bear SilentArrow plate are self-adhesive, so installation is quick and easy.
You can use on either right- or left-hand bows. It’s a handy replacement part when the original wears out or if you want to try something new.
My go to for my traditional hunting bowd. Its been working for all these years. Still does. I keep one on the wall for those times a new bow shows up and is not set up with good shelf material
I was very skeptical about using this system instead of a plastic arrow rest but I wanted this simple rest/plate to go with my recurve barebow. I’ve shot with it on four outings at the range and so far no issues.
I got the rest and plate with a recurve bow kit and 3Rivers installed for me and they did a pretty good job as both pieces are still firmly secure. So any newbies who are getting into traditional archery can have confidence that they can shoot from this rest, no problem.
Only thing is you need to shoot fletched arrows with it.
This is as easy and rugged as it gets. I have it on my Tomahawk SS and it looks great. A good look for a traditional rig. As others have said, it will wear the carpet rest away after hundreds or even thousands of arrows go over it.
That said, if you always shoot your arrow the same way (let’s say [email protected] feather out) you will wear the rug in a reliable pattern and form a groove that over time may actually improve your accuracy as later arrows fly reliably true in the groove each time.
I only gave it four stars instead of five for the simple fact that I have had my bow out in the rain and sleet a few times and when it got soaked, the rug’s adhesive started to give out. After it dried out, a few dabs of superglue did the trick (something I just do out of hand now to prevent any nasty surprises in the field).
Of course, you have to then be very careful as you use a razor sharp blade to remove the dried glue residue when replacing rests but it isn’t that big of a deal if you are careful and steady.
The HDX holds all the features of the HD model. If you are the archer that demands nothing but the top of the line with all the bells and whistles this is the model for you. Limited life time warranty.
Sleek curved capture bar for more versatility. LDT with increased spring tension. Total arrow containment. Thumb wheel with cord lock and HD extended lever. Easily adjust the timing cord with clamp or cord lock.
Noise reducing laser cut felt, cam-brake and rubber dampeners. Break away safety feature. Vertical, horizontal, and overdraw adjustments. Precision CNC aluminum, stainless steel, and delrin components.
The Weatherest, by Bear Archery, is an easy way to try shooting with an elevated rest. They are inexpensive and adhesive backed. Enjoy all the benefits of an elevated rest without investing a lot. Available in right or left handed.
I hunt in all weather conditions on public land. Rain snow etc. have always been a major pain for me because of feather fletchings. So after much trying and failing to find more weather resistant feathers I gave up, mounted this rest, and switched to vanes.
The result has been a vast improvement in my shooting during less than perfect weather. Would have given 5 stars if the foam adhesive pads weren’t so thick and easily messed up. Using super glue to secure the rest solved that.
My target shooting definitely improved with it. I will continue to buy them and use them. My only downside is how quickly they wear out using stiff feather fletching. I use Gold Tip traditional carbon arrows and the fletching is cutting it up pretty fast.
The plastic fletching doesn’t seem as tough on it but shooting traditional I use the feather fletching and really like the way they fly.
Although the Bear Weather Rest is described as a device to used on “youth” bows, I found it to be very effective when shooting aluminum, plastic vane fletched arrows with my Samick Sage bow. It is quite easy to install.
Provides a very limited degree of adjustment (you are given two adhesive pads to attach it to the bow which allows you a small amount of latitude for moving the mount a slight distance away from the bow.
The material for which it is made, a resilient rubber, seems to hold up well through use (I’ve probably shot at least 500 arrows off of the one I have on my bow. I tried to put a low cost, adjustable arrow rest on my bow, thinking that being able to move the arrow away from the bow might improve my accuracy.
The result was the new rest tore the vanes off of most of the arrows I shot using it. I quickly removed the adjustable rest and re-installed the Bear rest, and have lost no vanes from the rest tearing them off.
I’m just a hobbyist so ultimate accuracy is not something that keeps me awake at night, but being able to go out and shoot my bow without coming home and spending the next hour or so repair arrows is a big plus.
For the money I can’t imagine a rest that provides a better value and more suitable for its purpose.
The QAD HDX Arrow Rest offers extreme compatibility and versatility. It has a breakaway safety feature and comes with a redesigned vertical style. This QAD arrow rest has a curved capture bar and features an adjustable timing cord at the thumbwheel.
The Advanced Vibration Technology comes in handy to reduce unwanted vibrations, while the durable molded rubber build helps to create quiet shots and feel. This drop-away arrow rest is constructed of a CNC-aluminum with stainless steel and Delrin components.
It helps to maintain an arrow-capture position even during a slow let down. Versatile and compatible with most bows on the market, this QAD HDX Arrow Rest is an ideal choice for the avid sportsmen.
The patented VDT knows to only drop-away when the bow is fired. The Ultra-rest is the only arrow rest on the market to offer these features. LDT (Lock-Down Technology) eliminates rest bounce back, guaranteeing total fletching clearance.
Increased speed and accuracy offers minimal friction and zero fletching contact. Shoots the shortest arrows possible. Up to 4″ shorter than the competition.
Bought this today and had it installed by a cabelas pro staff member. Shot it a few times at cabelas. Got out to the archery range later in the day and the rest didn’t drop away fast enough and arrow caught and broke the plastic cradle in half.
Returned for refund. I saw it came with a replacement in the package but I didn’t want to risk it happening again during bow season and not be able to hunt. For this reason I will stick with a whisker biscuit.
I don’t know why anyone would buy something made of cheap plastic which could malfunction at any time. I have shot a whisker biscuit for the last 15 years with no issues and never had one break so I’ll take the 5 feet per second less.
I have had this rest for just a little over 1 year now and the drop away mechanism no longer functions. The arrow fletching nocks the rest down when it goes through causing the arrow to fly way off course.
Checked all the adjustments and still got same results. Only a 90 day warranty so I am out of luck. Will definitely not purchasing QAD in future.
I purchased this QAD HUNTER arrow rest because I had a good experience with the EXACT same arrow rest on my PSE Brute X about six years ago. Yes, the exact same arrow rest on my PSE Brute X functions perfectly every time and has done so for six years.
This second QAD Hunter I put on my PSE Drive X fails about every 10th shot. By failing I mean the arrow smacks the launcher causing erratic arrow flight (usually downward). This recent purchase I bought during this month (February 2019).
To be fair, I contacted QAD. They responded fast!! And they agreed to take the return of the arrow rest and fix it. How they will do that I do not know. I had this QAD Arrow Rest installed at a local pro shop in Denver.
They state the problem is that my new PSE Drive X with two hybrid cams is too fast for this arrow rest. They also state that the QAD Hunter has “bounce back” problems. Whatever. My first QAD Hunter functions well on my single cam bow.
I will take up QAD on their offer to inspect, repair or replace the arrow rest. But for now, I’ve lost confidence for the QAD Hunter on a dual cam (Hybrid Cam) bow (the PSE Drive X). The last thing I want in a hunting situation is an errant shot to wound an animal.
Oh. and by the way, this new QAD Hunter functions better in an indoor range that is warm. When I shoot at an outdoor range at 33 degrees, I get more “fails”.
The Trophy Ridge Sync Rest features full arrow containment and a laterally-adjustable launcher arms allow you to fine tune your shot. Cable-driven technology ensures a smooth, reliable draw cycle flight after flight.
Easy corrections with windage and elevation adjustments. Includes noise-reducing laser-cut felt and all mounting hardware for quick and easy installation.
I was looking for a good drop away rest and rather than believe all the manufacturers hype and questionable reviews, I contacted The Hunting Public to find out what they used. I was told Trophy Ridge Sync MD was the rest to get.
I picked it up on eBay for a fraction of the list price. I set it up and after fine tuning, it functions perfectly. I like the micro adjustment functions which helps with getting it to center. I made the right choice by picking a proven product.
I’ve had two of these break since buying new this spring with a whitetail legend pro. The first one the pro shop caught when tuning my bow. The second one was on a 9 day antelope hunt in SD. I guess I won’t hunt day 9 tomorrow.
The rest only stays up 1 in 10 tries. Save your money and make another choice.
LOUD on draw. I have tried 3 different types of felt to cover rest and it still makes a loud noise when drawing arrow. I had an issue with the adjustment for height. Rest wont adjust high enough for it to clear the riser shelf.
When you shoot it slams down on the riser. The only option in tuning was to move nock point since I couldn’t adjust rest up because it was already maxed out, or down because it hit the riser. Might fit other bows great but I put it on my Bear Escape and it’s just not a good fit.
Which is surprising since it’s made by trophy ridge. Other than the noise and height adjustment it appears to be an ok rest.
Do not underestimate the amazing advantage of micro-adjustability! Borrowed from target archery the ability to micro-adjust your rest up/ down or left/right will allow you to fine-tune your bow while others merely tune theirs.
The rest functioned fine. I was replacing my old ripcord max micro that had broke. I took pictures of the settings so I wouldn’t have to completely re-tune my rest. The laser engraved markings didn’t line up between rests.
The main problem though was that the metal rod that the launcher arm connected to was bent! This is unacceptable quality for a made in America product!.
This is my second Ripcord. Both have been bulletproof in their construction and very adjustable. My only dislike is that there seems to be no way to prevent them from light contact with riser as the fall away.
If I could I would rate it 3. 5 stars due to this. I can eliminate most of the slap by installing the ‘fuzzy’ side of velcro to the riser. Both of my Ripcords were on my bows at purchase. The first I later changed out for an Apex Accu-strike Capture.
The Rip Cord Ace Pro is a great fall away arrow rest. The micro adjusting features make setting up the rest simple for new and experienced users alike. I had to move the arrow support to the other holes on the left away from the burger button which provided more clearance for tightening and loosening the windage set screw.
The launch pad does not come with the rest so if you want it, as I did, make sure you visit Rip Cords website when comparison price shopping.
The innovative V-Notch naturally centers the arrow using fewer point of contact, eliminating side-to-side arrow movement, resulting in consistent arrow trajectory. This arrow rest makes tuning a breeze with its advanced windage adjustment.
Poor designe on how it adjusts. It puts to much stress on the small bolt that holds rest to the bow. Mine broke after just a few adjustments, sheared the bolt off. My concern is that its not a defect its poor design.
Even if i got a new one and it didnt break right away im worried it could break at anytime like in the middle of a hunt. Also the v notch that holds the arrows was to soft allowing an arrow to fall or push down the bristles.
My arrows are 9. 3 gpi so heavy ish but not way heavy. I would say if you want a capture rest go with the tried and true old school whisker bisket. I will be returning and going back to the WB myself.
The more rest I have tried, the more I have realized the value of having a rest that is incredible easy and does not fail. This rest is minimal setup with maximum benefits. No timing setup, easy to adjust, and has the ability to put arrow after arrow through it while maintaining a precise consistency.
There is a reason the Whisker Biscuit style rest has been so successful, and the V max is the Ferrari of Whisker Biscuits.
This is my 2nd whisker biscuit V I have one for each of my bows. Installation is simple and tuning is easy and very little goes adjustments go along way with this rest. From 20-60 yards is what I typically shoot and shot after shot this rest performed as it should I believe it’s due to less points of contact on your arrow.
I have put a good amount of shots through my other V biscuit and have yet to replace the Whsikers on them. I recommended this rest for everyone definitely a neat and well thought design.
Super quick operation along with 360 degree sound dampening mean whisper quiet operation, no matter what. The Apache does not require any wrenches or other tools to make adjustments, just set it and forget it.
Laser graduations make fine tuning in the field a snap. Rugged all metal construction is built for any weather conditions, rain or shine. This is truly the ultimate capture drop away rest!.
i bought this product from cabelas for the hunting season. it was a little bit less money than i had thought would end as a good drop away rest but i thought i’d give it a shot (no pun intended) the first thing i noticed was that it didnt come with a string attachment so it took me about 30 minutes to get the rest setup before i started tuning.
It worked like a dream for tuning because of the tool less adjustment. and in about 2 days i was completely setup and ready for the hunting season.
The arrow rest came as advertised. I have installed it and it functions quite well. It was a bit difficult to install only from the perspective that the activation string needs to be attached to the down cable and they say to severe it to that cable.
That is a difficult proposition because the cables run pretty tight together and getting any severing tool into that space is virtually impossible. I wound up adding nocks to the cable and tying the activating string in a knot below them.
Other than that it works fine and the set-up was relatively easy. If you are coming from a shoot-through arrow rest where you shot the odd feather down you need to rotate the arrow so that the odd feather is up with this rest or it will make contact and disrupt your arrow’s flight.
(Walmart won’t allow the proper term for the odd colored feather, calling it “sensitive language”. RIGHT!).
I am very happy with this rest, it is everything I wanted, and everything people said it would be, at a great price. I have put off ordering a drop away rest, because I thought for the features I wanted it was going to be well over $100 dollars, so was I surprised with the Apache.
I have shot a spot hogg that was very noisy a friend loaned me, and it shot great, but was way to noisy with the reset function it has. My groups tightened back up past 30 yards, and my broadhead flight tightened up.
I was looking for a drop away, with containment so my arrow would not fall off the rest, but it had to be quiet for hunting and this rest offers all of those. Easy to set up, and tune, with quiet operation.
Arrow rests are up to 300 percent stronger than previous models. An extremely tough and durable dual-bolt mount with a set screw for even more secure mounting. The whisker biscuit arrow rests are constructed of aluminum.
The design makes setup easier than ever before. Mount the rest into your riser mounting holes and the rest will automatically line up the accurately with your strings. Designed for use with left and right hand bows it is lightweight, compact and provides maximum clearance around quivered arrows.
Windage and elevation adjustment. Aluminum-encased biscuit 300% stronger than previous models. Laser-engraved reference marks. Custom rubber boots silence arrow loading. Designed for use with left and right hand bows.
Load your arrow on this rest and it’s secure in any position even upside down. The three arms fully capture your arrow, promote a silent draw and give you flawless fletching clearance every time. No warped or shredded vanes.
And it works perfectly in wet and freezing conditions. It’s easy to set up, and one wrench makes all adjustments.
My go to as an alternative to a drop away rest. I purchased 2 of these rests and use them as my alternative to a fall away rest, The more I use them the more I like them. With this type rest you don’t have to worry about setting and timing them and serving in pull cord like a fall away.
I use them on two of my bows and they are just as accurate as my fall aways, they are made of good materials are rock solid and quiet, adding a little mole skin on arrow skid helps it to not wear it out.
I definately will purchase more of these in the future when my fall aways break or wear out. Good stuff ! I recommend them to anyone who demands an accurate rest without the hassle of setting up a fall away 5 star rest.
This rest is excellent! You should know a little something about tuning a bow in order to set it up properly. I have read many reviews about this rest at many different retailers. It seems to me that many of the problems experienced by negative reviewers could be due to improper tuning techniques.
If you don’t know how to tune a bow properly, take it to a bow shop to have it done correctly, and this rest will work just as advertised. I was able to paper test my arrows with perfect results; believe me, if you take your time and do it right, you will not be disappointed.
The innovative V-Notch naturally centers the arrow using fewer point of contact, eliminating side-to-side arrow movement, resulting in consistent arrow trajectory. This arrow rest makes tuning a breeze with its advanced windage adjustment.
Improve your shooting accuracy and precision with the Right Handed Launcher Arrow Rest. Whether you an experienced archer or are a green novice, this rest will help you to nail your alignment so you hit your target more often.
Experiment with three mounting options, designed to give you the greatest possible range of control and maneuverability when you are taking aim. When you release the arrow, use the silencing tubes to ensure that you maintain your discretion so as not to scare away nearby prey.
Repeatable performance, smooth protection of the veins are features that I like very much. Though not a problem, at least not yet is the single screw holding the rest in place. It is fairly easy to move the rest by accident.
another screw or a staking pint would be a great addition to a already good rest.
The arrow rest was easy to attach and has worked great so far. The small screws that set the elevation are fragile. I was adjusting the elevation and as I was tightening the small screw the top just broke right off.
Maybe I wasn’t gentle enough with it. For the price this arrow rest is worth every penny.
DescriptionNAP Nighthawk Drop-Away Arrow Rest Right Hand 60-869 The full containment ultra lightweight NightHawk capture drop away arrow rest features super quick operation along with sound dampening Santoprene for whisper quiet operation, no matter what.
Laser etched graduations make fine tuning quick and easy. Rugged all metal construction is built for any weather conditions, rain or shine. The ultra-lightweight magnesium housing keeps weight down. Right hand models only.
I was adjusting the cable length for the rest and noticed the height was lower and when I tightened it the bolt stripped out and the rest fell off. This whole experience was frustrating. I would not recommend this item or buy it again.
Nice feel since it’s magnesium. Good weight without being heavy. I wish it had a locking mechanism like the QAD or ACE rests. But it functions properly and definitely helped improve my accuracy. For the money, I’m buying one for every bow in the house, and still not spending as much, put together, as I would on one of the high end rests.
The rest is easy to use and set up. Would recommend using a additional arrow holder on the riser so you do not have to hold the arrow while hunting. Good rest and will put it on my other bow.

Easy setup, cradles arrows perfectly. Alignment to sight is easy, seems more durable and better built then discord model. So far love it. Fall away is flawless. Color matches my Halon 6. Accuracy using it is great.
The best rest out there. Worried about the cost? Remember, you get what you pay for and this is the epitome of dependability and durability. This rest will outlive your setup!
The QAD Ultra-Rest HDX Arrow Rest is redesigned vertical for more versatility. It includes lock down technology with increased spring tension. Total arrow containment and injection molded rubber thumbwheel designed to force peak vibration amplitude to a minimum.
It has an easily adjustable timing cord with a clamp or cord lock and a break away safety feature.
I replaced my initial G5 drop away for what I was hoping was a good consistent rest. Sadly the fletching intermittently contacts the rest tearing away the felt and often sending my arrows to never never land.
QAD service was top notch and replaced the rest sight unseen and sent a replacement priority. FedEx I was impressed with that! Had a shop set it up again, but again, sadly, the fletching intermittently contacts the rest and sends the arrows hither and thither.
So, its off to find a new rest. Thats a lot of wasted time, lost and destroyed arrows, and 1 lost deer. This rest may work on your setup, but not with my Prime bow.
The Ultra-Rest HDX has a curved capture bar and a redesigned vertical The Mounting Block Design gives you more vertical adjustment and fits most bows. Full-draw indicator marks ensure proper launcher position.
Lock-Down Technology eliminates rest bounce back. Advanced Vibration Technology and durable molded rubber creates ultraquiet shots. Velocity Drop-Away Technology maintains arrow-capture position. Adjustable timing cord at the thumbwheel.
Vertical horizontal and overdraw adjustments. Breakaway safety feature. Constructed of CNC-aluminum stainless steel and Delrin components. Made in USA.
I love this rest. I looked at all the professional archers and didn’t want to spend a crazy amount. This thing is phenomenal. Always works once set up properly. So Highly recommend I bought one for my son.
I have probably gone through 5-6 of these rests over the years. They are awesome. The only problem I have ,and it happens on every one, is that after about a year the rest doesn’t catch and stay up every time you set it.
I have to keep flipping it up time after time until it catches. It will always come up when you draw the bow but I like the raise it with my arrow contained in it so it is secure. I’m on this site right now to buy another one.
Maker of the world s most-popular arrow rest, the original Whisker Biscuit; Trophy Ridge introduces the all-new Whisker Biscuit V Max. The innovative V-shaped design naturally centers the arrow using only two points of contact, eliminating side-to-side arrow movement, resulting in consistent arrow trajectory shot after shot.
The Whisker Biscuit V Max s perpendicular bristles reduce vane drag and allow the arrow to slice through the bristles with ease, maintaining velocity with every shot. This incredibly accurate and consistent arrow rest makes tuning a breeze with its advanced tool-less micro windage and elevation adjustments and convenient laser-engraved reference marks on the aluminum housing.
The X-Treme SL from Trophy Taker offers the perfect blend of fall-away accuracy and arrow containment all in an economical package. The X-Treme SL features an aluminum mounting bar and spring/launcher housing coupled with a 60% glass filled nylon ring and windage adjustment (one piece).
In addition, the 60% glass filled nylon launcher is overmolded onto a hardened brass bushing for smooth and reliable performance. The X-Treme SL loads quickly and easily yet still ensures arrow capture and retention over about 320 degrees of bow rotation.
The patent-pending X-Treme series rests are loaded with features such as the ultra-quiet full capture launcher, innovative Drop Stop launcher noise and vibration dampener, and now the no-tools-or-fasteners-necessary quick-install cable clamp.
The rest works, for sure. However, it’s pretty flimsy, and I don’t see it lasting long at all. I also think it may actually decrease accuracy due to it’s flimsiness. The rest torques to the left noticeably when at full draw.
it also has no elevation adjustment, so getting a precise tune out of it is next to impossible. However, it does work, and it’s cheap.
The Brush Fire is the all-new Cajun Bowfishing arrow rest with a Teflon impregnated insert on bottom for durability and replaceable bristles for full containment. The Brush Fire features an aluminum body windage adjustments and laser-engraved reference marks.
The reversible mount design can be used with left- and right-hand bows.
Researched many different brands and features. Being my first crossbow purchase, I had many concerns and questions. This crossbow was the answer! Assembled very easily. The crossbow is short and compact.
Easy to load a bolt, even at it’s high 175lb rating. I added a Tactacam 2. 0 HD camera to the crossbow using an underscope mount. Best accessory for many reasons. **Shoots very fast and very straight! However, it did require modifying the back mount of the scope.
Out of the box the bow shot consistently 6 inches low at 10 yards (less than 1 inch patterns). I found the same condition described by others online. I placed small strips of rubber tape in the back scope mount, under the scope.
This corrected the need to adjust about 120 clicks up. That much adjustment exceeded the ability to replace the elevation cap on the scope. Definitely a 5-Star crossbow in my book.
I know absolutely nothing about crossbows and was able to put this together in about 30 minutes. Should have taken 10 but the instructions are pitiful and it took a few YouTube videos and a call to Bear to complete (why wouldnt they just make decent instructions)? Anyway, hitting bullseyes from 20 – 50 yards right off the bat.
Problem is this bow is so powerful the bolts went almost completely through the Black Hole crossbow field target and literally melted the target material and then cooled on the vanes ruining them. Buy yourself The Rag Bag from Third Hand Archery and it stops the arrows and they pull out like butter (only for field points though).
I highly recommend this bow. Very powerful and solidly built.
Great crossbow for the price. If you take your time and read the instructions you can assemble it successfully. Powerful draw and feet per second shooting. Excellent scope for lining up shots. Beautiful camouflage on the bow and base unit.
The zombies will walk the other way when they see this baby.
An arrow rest for a recurve bow is a device that is attached to the bow and helps to support the arrow when it is nocked (placed on the bowstring). The arrow rest also helps to keep the arrow from slipping off the string and allows for a more consistent release.
There are many different types of arrow rests on the market, but the most common type is the plucking rest. This type of rest consists of a small piece of metal or plastic that is attached to the bow and extends outwards to support the arrow.
Other types of arrow rests include the shelf rest, which is a flat piece of material that is attached to the bow and provides a flat surface for the arrow to rest on, and the finger rest, which is a small piece of material that is placed on the bowstring and helps to keep the arrow in place.
