20 Best Air Purifier For Kitchen Smells (2023 Updated)

Ever since the global pandemic Ive been more concerned with air quality. and have several air purifiers around my home. Ive had one of the Shark 6 fan air purifiers running for about a year and been generally pleased with it, so when I saw this 4 fan version I thought it would be a great choice for a medium sized room that Ive got.

This purifier comes packaged in a relatively plain looking brown cardboard box no fancy retail packaging at all. This is not a bad thing as the packaging is probably greener, but when it comes to gifting things the packaging for this is maybe not as nice as some other choices.

Inside the package you get the purifier, manual, and a remote. Setup is very simple. just take it out of the box, remove the filter it is preinstalled, but has a plastic bag on it, take the plastic bag off of the filter and reinstall it.

and pull a little plastic tab out of the remote to make the batteries in the remote work. Pretty simple. These units have a few options you can cycle through as far as showing air quality i. e. is it 100%, 90%, etc, or how much time itll take to clean the air.

and it has a color coded light that indicates the air quality, so you can easily see from anywhere in the room if the air quality is good or bad. This unit does run all the time on a very low setting, even if the air is 100% clean, because that is how it continues cycling air into the unit to ensure it is clean.

but itll never be 100% silent unless you shut it off. That being said, it is a quiet unit. Probably the biggest surprise with this line of air purifiers is the lack of any smart features, it is not unusual with others on the market to have some sort of app control or smart home integration so you can have routines and other things get triggered based off of the air quality, but it is hard to knock this one for not having it when they dont advertise it as having that.

I got this air purifier for my bedroom because I have bad indoor, outdoor, and seasonal allergies to things like pollen, dust, smoke, etc. most of the year. The spring pollen season has been especially bad where I live this year and this Shark HEPA air purifier has already been a big help since I started using it a week ago.

It’s very easy to set-up and get running right out of the box. My previous air purified was small and quiet and because this one is much larger, I didn’t know what to expect. It has multiple speed settings, so I can run it quietly on low or put it on full blast depending on the air quality in the room.

I especially love the lighted digital dial on the front of the unit that tells me how clean or dirty the air in the room is. I know it works because when I open the windows wide first thing in the morning, all the pollen comes in and the display goes from 100% clean to about 82% clean.

I turn up the speed and can watch the air quality improve. This is a feature I didn’t know I was missing until I tried it. I also enjoy having the remote control so I can turn the filter on, off, or change the speed from across the room.

Although this is a fairly large purifier, it’s tall and slim, so it doesn’t take up too much space. Everything has worked as expected and I noticed the improvement of my aggravating allergy symptoms from day one.

It comes with one air filter. A replacement filter is currently about 79. Its pricey but I feel its worth it to have cleaner air in my home and fewer allergy symptoms. All in all, Im very happy with this product.

Bought this for my father-in-law who has COPD. I tried it out first at my house and it really does an excellent job. It looks and operates like “high-tech” equipment but it was easy to learn to use–I wanted my father-in-law to be able to manipulate the controls with minimal effort, and he can.

The replaceable filter was super easy to install (and consequently will be easy to replace). On the display, it will tell you how many hours’ operation is left before you need to replace the filter. The display also shows the percentage that it senses the air is clean; the purifier can be set to automatically turn on or off depending on the amount of percentage the air is clean (so if the percentage is below 100% it will turn on and run until the percentage goes back up to 100%).

It will also show the amounts of particulates in the air. When we tested in first in my home, we did some cooking and also painted kitchen cabinets (at separate times), then ran this purifier to get rid of the odors; in a nutshell, it absolutely worked.

I also like that it has a remote control, and it is also pretty light–not that it can knocked over easily, but that it can be moved from room to room or place to place easily. My husband was a bit skeptical that these air purifiers really work, but this one was able to convince him.

My father-in-law also reports after about a month of usage, that it does indeed work for him as well.

Excellent Air purifier. Almost silent on low and not so bad on high. Oscillating feature is great. Easy to use and set up. Decently rated in Consumer Reports. Washing the filters saves $$$ on maintenance costs since filters can be pricey for some purifiers.

This one was MUCH MUCH quieter than the other Honeywell HPA200 series and seems like it cleans just as well with a smaller footprint. The HPA200 was VERY loud on high and LOUD on low. The AirGenius is about the same loudness on high Level 4/5 that the HPA200 was on low.

High is an average amount of noise, I’d say similar to the level of noise we hear from the whole house A/C, but it can get annoying after hours and hours of listening to it straight. However, the AirGenius is very quiet on low level 1 and you can hardly hear it.

On Low, it would be easy to sleep with it on. We bought to help clear out smoke during CA wildfires and it did its job. Well worth the cost so far. Highly recommend.

I bought 6 different air purifiers (they were sold out everywhere so i basically scooped up any i could find!) when we had extreme smoke in my area due to the California wildfires. This one is by far the best.

I love the oscillating option, the speed options (sleep, germs, allergy, general, etc), and the timer is always great. We had hazardous PM2. 5 levels and within an hour I could breath better and thus felt more energetic and clear headed.

Additionally, this model has a permanent filter that you remove and wash easily. You can also use the “K” pre-filter if you want to get rid of odors or gasses. I believe the “K” pre-filter is a disposable one that you buy replacements for.

I use the unit in our kitchen/family room and it manages to clean the whole room. Highly recommend!.

It works really well, but started making an awful noise (on all settings) after about a month of use. Washed filter per instructions and no change. We called Honeywell, very smooth customer service process and very kind reps.

They are sending a replacement under warranty with no trouble at all. Apart from the noise it works great and we love it! We eve bought a smaller one for another room. Very pleased with warranty service too.

They really seem to stand by their products, which I respect. This machine has a five year warranty that seemingly would address most of the bad reviews I read before I bought it. Overall, I would have given it five stars if not for the noise and warranty claim.

My daughter has Cerebral Palsy and due to other issues she recently had to have a colostomy. Every 3 days we have to flush out her colon. When flushing a colostomy, you use something called an irrigation shoot.

For an able bodied person, they would sit on the toilet with the shoot draped into the toilet. She isn’t able bodied, so we plug the drain side of the shoot to collect everything in the shoot while she lies in bed watching TV (this part of the flush usually takes about 30 – 45 minutes).

When the flush is done, I disconnect the shoot, clean the stoma, and put a new bag over the stoma. Then I take the shoot into the bathroom and empty it into the toilet and wash the shoot out in the shower (this takes about 5 minutes).

This leaves the bedroom and the bathroom smelling really bad (think of the smell of the worse case of diarrhea you can imagine). For the bathroom, I close the door and turn on the exhaust fan. In the bedroom, the door remains closed until the stink level becomes tolerable to my wife who is very sensitive to the smell.

I bought one of these Larger Miko air filters for her bedroom. I turn the Miko onto a setting of 2 (sometimes I go into Turbo mode but then it is hard to hear the TV). Her bedroom is 100 sq. ft. After 10 minutes the room still stinks but not as bad.

After an hour the smell in the bedroom is at a tolerable level for my wife and after two hours it is usually completely gone. The bathroom however (35 sq. ft. ), I have left the exhaust fan on for over 8 hours and still wanted to throw up when entering the bathroom.

Before purchasing the Miko, we had to leave the bedroom door open so the air would eventually clear out, but this made the whole house (2000 sq. ft. ) stink for several hours. To keep from throwing up, my wife would stay in the master bedroom with that door closed for several hours until the level of stink in the whole house came down to tolerable levels.

Now, to explain something that a lot of people, in reading their reviews, do not seem to understand. When an air filter claims it filters the air in a 1600 sq. ft. room 5 time an hour, it does not mean it filters every last molecule of air in the room.

It will pull that much volume of air through the filter but the air closest to the filter will go through the filter many more times before the air furthest from the filter will ever even reach the filter if at all.

Smells near the filter will also be dispersed to points farther away because the filter is essentially a FAN that blows air around the room. So, when someone says, I held match near the filter and I could still smell the match, well DUH, you still need to give it time.

The real test is how long does it take before the smell is removed with and without the air filter. Put a smell into the room, close the room off, and come back at intervals. If the smell is gone faster with the filter, then the filter is working.

The faster it is gone, the better it works. This is why, I can say, when comparing the smell of the bathroom with its fan to the bedroom, this filter works great.

The media could not be loaded. What sold me on this unit is that it is replacing 2 other units I have in my home. Purifying the air in an area the size of 1600 square feet is what I need. My 2 other units, one larger than this one, only handle a maximum of 290 square feet.

I like that this gives you a scale measurement of the particulate matter from a sensor inside the Ibuki-L. So far I mostly leave it in the auto mode which is a plus my other units do not have. If the PM sensor picks up too much in auto mode it will adjust the fan speed.

Turning it to sleep mode dims the lights on top of the unit. Installing the filter was a breeze and I appreciate only having to worry about 1 filter to replace that has all 3 filters in one. My large room Holmes air purifier takes 3 HEPA filters, 3 carbon filters, and a pre filter Holmes told me they do not sell so I have to carefully wash it off.

Changing just 1 filter that has all 3 inside is cost saving, simple, and not as messy. My concerns are since I have only had this a few days:Will the filter last approximately 6 monthsandWhat happens if the light burns out on top of the unit that shows the PM sensor readout.

I guess leaving it in auto mode should handle it. So far I am very pleased with the Ibuki-L Air Purifier and hope that it will work well for many years to come. I also hear NO noice in sleep mode.

This air purifier works perfectly. The auto mode is great as it detect particles in the air and adjusts the fan speed accordingly. I tested this by spraying an air freshener nearby and even stepping on a dust bunny that was nearby the unit and the particulate reading quickly went up a reasonable amount, the light changed based on how bad the particulate count was, and the fan speed increased to compensate.

Ive had it for a few weeks now and it even detects my daughter’s hairspray and other similar particles from other rooms. It’s actually impressive how well the sensor is on this thing. The controls are ridiculously easy to use.

I have it in my bedroom at the moment so I let it stay on auto throughout the day and switch to nighttime mode before bed. A single press and it takes care of the rest. It would be nice to be able to schedule times for night mode.

maybe a thought for future models?Most importantly, it is seriously effective at improving the air quality in the house. We have some mold in our air vents that is awaiting removal, but in the meantime myself, my baby son, and my daughter have been suffering from stuffy noses and other allergy-like symptoms.

From the day I set this thing up (and let it run in turbo mode for half an hour) until now, these symptoms have basically disappeared. The air also smells much more crisp and clean. A few days ago a representative from Miko reached out to me to ask for my address to send a free filter replacement.

They did ask me to leave a review after I provided my address, but it in no way this required for the free filter, nor did they ask to see proof that I left a review. This is far better than the many sellers on Amazon that send a message telling me that if I leave a 5 star review and show proof they will provide something for free.

The Cuisinart Air Purifier is our second air purifier. Initially when we opened the product we noticed that the quality of the air purifier was much higher than our previous one. The appliance has a touch panel control which is very responsive and easy to use.

The appliance has 4 fan speeds and have found that speeds 2 and 3 are the ones we use the most. Level 1 does not feel like it moves much air and level 4 is a little noisy which is expecially noticed when watching tv but bearable.

We having the air purifier in our living room which is open concept with the kitchen and the purifier does a great job removing smoke and odours from cooking in a timely fashion. We also have pets and members of the household with minor pet allergies and since getting the air purifier have noticed an improvement in allergies so it must be doing a good job removing hair and pet dander from the air.

Would highly recommend.

I was a bit reluctant to spend 300. 00 on an air purifier but the reviews were so encouraging I went for it. I’m not disappointed. The unit arrived in good timing packaged in a thick box keeping it safe.

From box to usage was easy. Just plug it in. Press the button on the left on top to start it. For me the hardest part was deciding where in the house to put it. Finally decided on the living room and it’s perfect in there being it’s the largest area in the house.

I live in a 1600 SF home. I turn it on first thing in the morning and keep it on speed 3 for a few hours which is just enough time to purify the air for the day. I have a small dog and it seems to get rid of that lingering doggie smell.

Honestly, it’s a tad bit noisy on the higher levels but nothing you can’t mask with a TV or music. Upon entering the house when the unit is on, the air is noticeably cleaner and more fresh. It’s a sleek non obtrusive design with a menu on top.

I’m very pleased and you will be too. A great investment.

This compact, four sided air intake filter gives me peace of mind. Know that the UV-C light and the HEPA and active carbon dual filters are cleaning my home from my cat’s hair, candles and cooking and whatever else is floating around.

Its a simple, classic look that that I can put on the floor or on a table. There’s a timer/night mode and you can change the fan speed. One and two are very quiet, three and four have a strong fan sound.

If you had kids, the night light and lockable feature would be useful. Having the pre filters washable is nice, there’s a light that lets you know when it’s time to replace the filter so you don’t have to guess.

Being able to breath in fresh and clean air makes a huge difference, I’ve been sleeping better.

I have one in each bedroom. I don’t know there is a difference in one room, but I have the purifier by the cat’s litter box in the other bedroom. I feel like it’s doing a good job neutralizing that smell.

It’s worth the money for that alone.

The Shark Air Purifier 6 is a great air purifier, with 6 fans and plenty of power to purify a large room worth of air. One of the headlining features is the Clean Sense IQ system which constantly measures air quality and adjusts the power of the fans accordingly.

This system is displayed very uniquely on the top and front of the air purifier with a circular display that changes color from blue to yellow to red as the air quality it measures gets worst. Likewise, you can use the touch controls on the top of the unit to change the display so that you can view things like cleaning time, clean air percentage, and levels of different particle categories.

One of the more interesting aspects of the air purifier is that it comes with a remote control which lets you also control many of the air purifier’s functions, which I personally don’t find myself using much at all as I tend to leave the purifier on “Auto” mode, which uses the Clean Sense IQ system to make the purifier a largely “set it and forget it” system.

Over the past week I have found that the clean air percentage has largely sat near or at 100% around the clock, and when using the “Auto” mode, leaves the fans in their lowest mode, which while not silent, is very quiet.

When I cook or use candles the air quality percentage will drop accordingly, and the fans will kick-up in response, blowing more air through the system the worst the air quality percentage. In general, I have found it can take a few hours to clean our larger living room/kitchen area, but you can watch at the percentage climb as the air quality normalizes over time.

Likewise, the system can provide you with an estimated time to clean as well, which is a nice touch. If I had to choose a downside for the device, it would likely be down to its size. While it is powerful, it is also very tall, and will require some space to set-up.

Thankfully, from an aesthetics standpoint, I do find it to be very good looking, and compliments the other tech in our living room very nicely. Also, if you wish to turn off the displays, you have that option as well to let the purifier blend into the background a bit more.

On another note, the air filter is also very large, which could lead to a larger cost down the road for replacements, which is something to consider. Overall, I really like this purifier and would certainly recommend it for those in the market for a strong purifier in a larger room.

It isn’t the “smartest” device it could be, and while the Clean Sense IQ works well, it still feels like a glorified automatic fan-speed changer at its core, rather than a true smart system. This being said, these are small complaints against an otherwise great performing and looking air purification system.

I rave about this air purifier. In this age of airborne illness, it gives me peace of mind knowing I’m doing my utmost to provide for my family. This innovative piece of technology is well designed and surprisingly intuitive, easy to set up and use.

The dashboard on top provides real time data about the air quality. The insights include the percentage of clean air and particles identified therein. There is also a handy indicator on the face of the product that provides a snapshot.

Both of these facets provide color coded visual references for air quality. Furthermore, you can see an estimate of how long it will take to purify the air as well as how much life is left on the filter.

Operationally, it can run automatically or manually. There are adjustable speed settings all of which are fairly quiet. It works efficiently and reliably. You can control it by hand or with the included remote.

And it covers a large area. I placed mine in my toddler’s room. My daughter is still in diapers so I can attest to the odor filtration. Aesthetically, it is sleek, thin and unobtrusive. It’s black and blends in with my furniture effortlessly.

All told, this is a fantastic device that I absolutely love.

I absolutely love my IQAir HealthPro Plus. It does such a great job. I was so happy with it I bought another for my downstairs. At work I bought for our shared office space that is right off the wood shop and the material science lab.

It has been so nice to have clean air in our office especially during fire and polled season. It does a great job filtering out odors and all the sawdust particles etc. When our students are working with silica during a metals project, I would roll it into our lab space to keep the air clean from silica.

Although students are wearing particles masks, the dust would settle to other places in the room. This year I purchased another one dedicated to the lab. My son lives in an old house and has horrible spring allergies.

Living in the Pacific Northwest mold is always a problem. My son’s quality of sleep vastly improved since I bought one for his house.

Doesnt actually work with any N02 gas. Some VOCs also doesnt work. I have a UHOO sensor and a winix with ionizer can get rid of all the VOCs when this one doesnt. No change at all on any of these levels from the sensor when other products change it.

It is very old heavy and a burden to carry around not to mention returning and dealing with fed ex is highly expensive and troublesome. There is a sweet smell coming from this machine. The box also wreaks of formaldehyde and i had to throw away the box not sure if this machine emits any formaldehydes itself.

It did work on cleaning some aspects of the air but not the full gambit. Overrated and oversold. Because i threw away the box they had to send me another one which took a few more weeks in order to return.

Too expensive for what it does. Not worth it. There are better machines and tech thats cheaper.

Good product, but unable to get replacement filters anywhere.
