20 Best Cat Brush For Long Hair (2023 Updated)

Absolutely loving this brush. I have bought so many trying to get rid of all the loose hair on my Rottie x Staffy and this is the only one that works. It loosens the hair and also pulls it together so I can easily pick it up and throw it in the bin.

Throw everything else out, this is all you need!.

My cat usually only let me brush him with my fingers but still not for long, and hides whenever he sees a brush. Not anymore, he enjoyed being brush by this brush and I can brush him longer than using my fingers, hair comes out easily & brush easy to clean, very happy!.

Finn my cat can’t get enough of this brush, he goes into complete bliss mode purring and contented, will actually try and cut in on the dog being brushed. The amount of hair this gets out is unbelievable, and it’s great on carpets and clothes to remove hair using the back side.

Definitely recommend this one.

my cat moves around a lot when being brushed and tends not to like other brushes. he still tries to walk around when i use this one, but at least i can tell he doesn’t hate it. it gets the job done but pulling out all the loose fur from his coat.

i saw other reviews saying it’s sharp; it’s honestly not that sharp at all. i tap my finger against it a few times and it doesn’t hurt, though the bristles are thin so i would avoid brushing the face with this obviously.

very good on the back, sides and tail of the cat and maybe if your cat allows it, the belly should be fine too.

By not getting a self cleaning slicker, i knew cleaning it out would be a pain. But one of the combs I got at a hotel has the perfect spacing and is the perfect size to slide in and lift hair all in one go.

However, the packaging is not very sturdy, so when shipped it got crushed and bent a bunch of the pins back toward the pad. I was able to reshape them enough for the brush to be at least usable again, but did get a few pokes and couldn’t ever get them all the way right.

My cat isn’t shedding much YET, but this brush easily gets through her thick but short coat to lift the dandruff/build up on her rump where she cant reach. This brush actually lifts all the dandruff, so the first time i brushed her I was grossed out.

But the next day, none flaked off – one good session lifted the build up so now it’s just maintenance. she LOVES this brush on her cheeks, but since they are uncapped pins and some are wonky, i had to teach her to hold still so I could control the brush and make sure she didn’t headbutt herself into a poked eye.

Pins are fine enough to feel good but thin enough to have some give, meaning when they hit her skin they flex enough not to scratch or poke her. I wish all the pins worked as ell as those in the original shape, but they mostly-bent back ones I had to re shape post packaging smush are much less effective (1/3 the brush head).

Im obsessed with brushes because I own horses and 2 large dogs who are heavy shedders. Unfortunately for my cats, this obsession transfers over to them as well, so I currently have 8 different brushes that I use on them.

The only kind of brush that I know of that I have not used is a long toothed dematting comb, and it’s because of this brush. My long haired cat NEVER has matts in her fur because this brush works so well that I use it on her briefly every day and it takes care of her shedding and tangling.

She also tolerates it well, and she has VERY sensitive skin so she loathes brushes that pull. Which is most of them. So, according to my cat, this brush barely tugs when I use it. This isn’t a complaint, it’s more of a note, but it’s not the best brush in the world for my 2 short haired cats.

One of them has a very thin undercoat so it’s easy to get out, but the other short hair has an unusually thick undercoat. This brush helps a bit, but a Furblaster used occasionally combined with a normal old $2 hairbrush daily works way better for both of them.

This brush is still good, just not the best. However, it still falls in second place.

I previously made a negative review about this comb because it didn’t work well for my Smooth Fox Terrier. She has a thick coat and has a decent amount of shedding year round. Since then we got a husky and boy does he shed! I think huskies might be my new definition of real shed.

But we’ve been struggling with constant flyaway hairs even after using a great top coat comb in showers and she he’s dry. So I remembered I had this and decided to give it another try. I kid you not, it got rid of maybe 90% of his flyaway hairs.

This was what we took off of him after his shower from yesterday. I don’t recommend for Terriers or dogs similar to Costa like terriers because it’s not effective. But on huskies it’s a game changer!.

This tool is amazing! I bought it specifically to de-tangle my cat who had lots of mats on his lower back. I didn’t even know short haired cats could get matted up and when I noticed it he probably had 20 knots.

So gross and I know uncomfortable for him. I got online and read reviews and found this. I’m not gonna lie it was hard to figure out how to use it first without hurting him. It took a couple of sessions so he could tolerate it.

After a while I learned how to work them out. He was pretty angry at me but I was so amazed! I got all of these deeply knitted mats out And his fur is now clean and smooth. I plan to use it going forward at least once a week to keep him in shape.

I didn’t really understand how mats worked until now (Undercoat tangling up). I highly recommend this tool.

Ali is a 6 year old DSH that doesn’t enjoy brushing but heavily sheds year round. Ali sheds twice as much as my American bobtail Jezebel & I’m convinced it’s because unlike the longer coat cat who demands nightly brushing, Ali doesn’t allow us to brush her at all.

I purchased this brush with that in mind. Ali continues to shed but thanks to this inexpensive brush the shedding has become manageable. I suspect If Ali would allow more frequent brushing this little brush would minimize the shedding significantly.

At present brushing is allowed 1 a week for no longer than 10 minutes & never her belly.

Furminators are a must for me now. At least once every few months we have a proper groom (when my labs start to shed) and this is the tool for the job. I would warn though that due to the size, it’s not easy to get into small places and can be tricky to wield around wrinkles/bumps- so I have a little one I use for tricky bits (and our cat) and I leave the legs and face to a softer brush.

This thing is made for buisness! That means you have to be far more careful than with some tools. It grabs fur really well so it’s important to slowly go from the top to the undercoat, or you may end up pulling your dog’s skin.

Similarly too much pressure can scratch the dog, although our’s have never bled/visibly been hurt- so it may just be uncomfortable when it’s too close to the skin. Being light is very important- you get used to the motion to lift the hair off by raising the wrist at the end of the stroke too.

I have had three Furminator tools like this over the years and two of them have lost a tooth each- I haven’t a clue when but it’s something to be aware of. They’re great quality and the grips/button are similar to a really nice bike’s handles.

I can’t recommend them enough. Just go easy with how often they’re used- our black lab looked like the night’s sky for a while with the amount of dead skin I was brushing to the top of his coat every day.

This is your once a week/fortnight tool- not your daily maintenance.

I had heard so many brilliant things about the Furminator many years ago, my two J Russell terriers have been casting terrible so i thought id invest in one. The dogs and I are so happy I did-its brilliant! I couldnt believe how much was coming out, I did as recommended to start with, you could keep going and going but I choose to observe and respect my dogs when you see they have had enough.

The hair will just keep on coming, I kept thinking had I not groomed to get that hair out it would be all over the house. I have to say its nearly been 4 weeks of grooming and their coats are gleaming, every visitor that comes to see me comments on how shiny and amazing my black dog looks.

My OAP (15!) dog has less healthy glossy looking coat, his coat was dull and oily after wearing a jumper theough winter to keep him warm so I was delighted that I have managed to get even his coat looking great after a furminator groom and some elbow grease! I highly highly recommend, 10/10.

Sorry to say that the brush I recently purchased is not of the same quality as the one I purchased 13 years ago for my two cats. The new brush looks nearly identical to the original one but only nearly.

The new one is just enough shorter to make a difference in how it fits my hand. And, the rubber is difficult to clean because the surface is not as smooth, especially on the bottom. Also, the older brush was much easier to pull the fur away from the “teeth” and bottom to clean after daily use.

The original would take less than a minute to clean after each brushing. The new one isn’t as smooth textured as the original one and the fur is more difficult to separate from the rubber bristles and the bottom.

My two cats still love being brushed and ask for it every day. It’s our ritual. I don’t know if they notice any difference between the old and new, but I certainly do. I’m the one who cleans it. The next time I’m in a pet shop, I’ll look for the brush in the dog section —- that’s the department where I found the original one.

Sometimes cat items are made slightly different but appear identical to the dog version. That might explain a difference in size but I would expect identical materials in that it’s purpose and use is the same.

My kitties, and I, as well, love this brush. It is soft enough to not irritate the skin, I don’t worry about damaging the eye or mouth area, and it is excellent at grabbing and trapping loose hair. My “mature” cat has short, thick hair and he loves the massage factor.

My long-haired kitten would sit still for seemingly hours while I pamper him. They each get a daily grooming session to prevent those pesky hairballs. I had one of these, I just purchased two more. Another one for me and one for my friend who also has a long-haired kitty friend.

I absolutely love this brush! It is quite small in size and i was concerned that it wouldn’t be that great when it arrived in the post. Upon using it i am very pleasantly relieved as it works like a dream! The quality is decent enough.

I am using it for my poodle and also my labradoodle with no complaints whatsoever. I cannot believe how well it works. Their coats are so soft and its very easy to brush them. I would highly recommend this brush for dogs.

This is the only brush that my cats have ever genuinely liked – and all of them like it, even though they each have very different coats. It’s also perfect for synthetic fur, since it organizes any pile length without being rough on the backer.

My pup, Onyx, and I liked this brush. It was a nice softer brush for after the bath or a dry shampoo day! My boy would sit so pretty and roll over and show me his chest to brush! I believe Onyx is a reincarnated Diva because he loves being pampered with his CHI products as much as I do! We highly recommend this brush! (Ours was lost during a move).

I went through my fair share of brushes to find one that wouldn’t pull too hard and that he wouldn’t mind getting brushed. This one is great, he doesn’t bite at it and actually seems to enjoy it somewhat or at least tolerate it.

And it does a good job, Charlie is a border collie so he doesn’t shed excessively so this is perfect. I have a different one for getting all the excess fur out. He doesn’t like that one as much but at least that works.

I actually use this brush for my long haired cat and it’s really good at detangling his very fine fur. It’s gentle enough to use on his belly as long as I use a soft touch and it doesn’t irritate his skin.

I also really like the handle of this brush, it’s comfortable to hold and easy to use. It’s a heavy pet brush but is really good quality. I’ve since bought other Chi grooming supplies and have been really happy with all of them.

I have been looking for brush just like this one for quite a while. This brush saves me so much time and sorrow. I have many cats and also sit for others. The cats who can’t be brushed or touched for any length of time without having a fit are happy with this brush.

It has soft bristles that they love on their cheeks, so much so that they allow me to brush the rest. It’s really great.

A softer brush than i expected. It doesn’t pull their hair out which i was hoping it would help with their continuous shedding. Its soft and they all like it but i don’t see a lot of shedding just mostly a nice massage and softer coats.

Not a bad brush especially for a cat that isnt used to brushing, but not a deshedder or furtracker.

I bought this brush for my cat who loves having her face brushed but often pushes so hard that she irritates her skin. This brush is great for a gentle brushing and she can rub on it as hard as she wants.

It’s perfect for what I wanted but just be aware that it doesn’t pick up or hold any hair like other grooming brushes do.

As the owner of two cockers, I am looking forward to avoiding mats this winter. Seeing how well this brush works with their shorter summer coats, I have no doubt that this will be even more helpful when I let their full coats come in thicker this winter.

Every spring, I battle mats when I go to clip off their thicker coats, and hopefully we will have far less to deal with given how well it works now.

Thank heavens for this thing! Why oh why did I struggle so long with other sucky dog nail trimmers/grinders before getting this? This is the quiet yet powerful dog nail grinder I needed for my beloved-yet-curmudgeonly older dog, who has gotten us kicked out of vet and groomer nail trimming sessions because he just wouldn’t have it.

Sure, it still makes noise, it is a power tool after all, but it’s much more quiet compared to other, less powerful products of this type. I tried less powerful grinder tools because they were battery powered but they didn’t do the job at all.

I thought I would mind the cord on this one but I don’t. It’s long enough, it’s fine, and it gives you the power! Plus it has the guard, which is good. Because it is so powerful, you really have to be sure to only use it for a second or two on each nail before moving on to another nail, otherwise it heats the nail up and it’s actually painful for your dog.

IF you’re not careful, you can actually burn the quick (toes) from the inside as the friction heats up the nail, so I just touch the grinder to each nail for a few seconds at a time and make my way down the line of nails, doing a little bit each day.

Even in just a few seconds, you can see the nail getting shorter — this thing really works. Also be sure to trim the fur around the nails first, so that this powerful grinder doesn’t catch it up and pull the hair.

My dog is so frightened of having his nails done that I had to use treats for 2-3 weeks to get him used to the grinder, first with it powered off, letting me just touch the grinder to his paws without turning it on.

Then I turned it on and held it up to the nails without touching them, so that he could get used to the sound, and gave him treats. 5 minutes at a time, 2-3x day, with this training. Now he lets me do his nails no problem.

I can’t believe it. Who knows what my dog is really thinking, but I could swear he feels much more comfortable and happy to finally have his nails trimmed down.

The ConairPro brush says it’s for dogs under 30lbs but I say the ConairPro Pet Brush is meant for dogs under 20lbs. The brush head was perfect for brushing my cats but the head was too small for brushing my dog of 20 lbs.

The ConairPro Pet ergonomic brush handle is made of gel and very comfortable to hold. The brush handle was a perfect fit for my small hands so if you have large hands you will want to check the handle and head of the larger brushes before you make the purchase.

I thought It was the most comfortable handle I have used on a pet brush. I wish my personal hairbrush had the same handle. The head of the brush has small comfort tips so not to injure your pets skin or pull its hair.

I recommend the ConairPro Soft Slicker Brush to others but suggest people pay close attention to the size for your pet and check the size of the handle. I enjoyed this brush and would purchase it in the future.

This ConairPro Pet Brush is easy to use and did a great job brushing my pets fur without pulling or scratching their skin. My only complaint on the ConairPro Pet Small Brush is the size of the brush head.

I absolutely love this brush and so do ny pets. They get really excited when its time to brush them! I love the soft grip memory gel handle as it gives me good control and makes it difficult to drop when my animals are moving around.

It removes all tangles and any mat my animals coat with ease. The little sift black plastic pins don’t scratch or hurt ny animals like some of the other metal ones I’ve used. When used regularly, I’ve noticed it significantly reduces shedding on both my cats and dogs.

The brushes small design makes it perfect for animals under 35-35 lbs. My pets actually enjoy grooming now, all thanks to the Conaiir Pet Pro line! I received this product free from Influenster and Conair Pro Pet in exchange for my honest opinion.

Purchased for my calico kitty. It’s heading into spring and hopefully this will be helpful for her shedding season. I really like the handle grip on this brush, each side has a grip that feels really comfortable.

As a heads up, don’t expect this to be similar to the Furminator de-shedding brushes — this is more of a traditional brush than something to get into a pet’s undercoat. I was really hoping this could get into her undercoat, and it doesn’t, which is why I’m giving the product four stars instead of five.

The advantage here, though, is that you have two sides, a wire brush to get all your pet’s shed hair, and a smoothing brush that helps distribute oils to keep your pet’s fur looking healthy. This is a smaller brush, so it may not be helpful for a large dog owner.

This is perfect for Bella, my cat, however. She likes this brush, she can be skittish about new things — including brushes — but she didn’t run away and judge me from a distance (her usual reaction).

She let me make passes with both sides of the brush. I call that a win!.

My cat has a sensitive stomach and cannot tolerate any grains or gluten, which are common ingredients in cheap, run of the mill cat foods. There are no meat by-products in this food, which is great. It’s hard to find pet foods that don’t contain by-products.

My vet was recommending a prescription food, and I pointed out to him the ingredient list which listed corn gluten and meat by-products, and I explained that my cat only vomits food containing these ingredients.

Unfortunately veterinarians, like human doctors, aren’t really educated on nutrition. It took me a long time to search for the right cat food product by carefully reading the ingredient labels on each one.

Only one negative and that is the price, but when it comes to cat food, you definitely get what you pay for.

I tried to write a review for this earlier but I guess this got lost. I have a very big boned 16. 75 lb black cat who seems to think that he is the supreme leader of the universe. Therefore, I feed him accordingly.

He is a poultry and ham madman. Whenever I try to open a can of this, he would be on top my hand, strong pawing his way in there so he could control the funky duck and potato goodness and I was only there, inhibiting his entry into the can….

In other words. David (That’s his name) loves it and it gets kudos for that. Just the fact that it is Blue Buffalo, Should tell anyone that this is prime pet food and always a good choice (They even do veterinary diets now, as well!!).

I really like this brush. The handle is a nice, grippy gel material and fits well in my hand. If you have sore, stiff hands, this brush might be easier for you to grip. My dog has very short hair (she’snearly bald on her belly and the rest of her hair is like a buzz cut), so this brush wasn’t the best fit for her.

The thin, metallic bristles were a too harsh for very short hair. My cat has medium length hair, and this worked well for her. The bristles offered a light, scratchy massage that she seemed to be fond of.

Her coat looks smooth and shiny after a short grooming session. Bottom line: This product is awesome for medium to long haired animals. The grip makes it comfortable for the human to use, and the round bristle head enables you to groom a pet without bumping them with the hard corner of a square brush.

The brush is too big for a cat. i bought the brush for a dog, but i can not see that the product would be any good for a young pup- let alone a dog, as the bristles are far too short to go through the shortest of hair, and far too soft.

i found the brush useless.

I bought this for my golden Retriever and she actually likes being brushed with it. She will stand and let me brush her for as long as I want to. It leaves her hair smooth and shiney.

Great little brush, my cat loves it, he lies down waiting to be brushed with this brush which he didn’t like with other brushes I have used, the natural bristles are soft, really pleased and he is.

I have a very furry Russian Siberian Cat that sheds alot. I’ve used the furminator which he really hates and I believe that it’s because it’s pulling his fur that is still attached to his body vs removing what is lose, regardless to the very gentle light strokes I do with it.

I wanted to find a brush that would remove the excess fur gently with out hurting my cat and also not give him static like the last brush did. Well with this one I was able to get his excess hair off with the soft black Brush side and he really enjoyed it and wanted for me to brush him even more.

The other side with the soft white bubble tips is great after bathing him as it helps remove the slight tangles he gets when I dry him with a towel. I highly recommend this for any cat with long or short hair and my cat has a triple coat!.

I bought this brush because my puppy was always dirty and I didn’t want to bathe her a lot. I thought it would great for her, she’s a lab, but the brush really doesn’t do anything for her. I would just keep in mind what fur your dog has and if you’re a first time pet owner definitely ask what brush works best for your dog!.
