December 20, 2018

Since making its debut in 2005, Elf on the Shelf has become a staple in homes across the country. Many parents really enjoy including the elf in their annual holiday traditions but, after a while, it can be hard to come up with creative, or even funny, hiding places. If you’re finding yourself stumped this year, here are some suggestions that will be entertaining for the whole family.

The Bubble Bather

Who doesn’t enjoy a good bubble bath? After spending all day hiding, your elf might need to relax and unwind! Find a cute bowl and fill with marshmallows. Tuck the elf inside for a little pampering.

The Book Worm

Pick some of your child’s toys and set up storytime. Have them all seated and comfy while the elf sits on a perch reading to them. Bonus points if you make a miniature version of a favorite book!

The Snow Angel

Find a spot in the kitchen that will be easy for your child to see but will stay undisturbed by traffic. Pour some rice or sugar on the floor and have the elf make some “snow” angels. It’s a bit of a pain to clean up but it’s worth it!

The Red-Nosed Photobomber

If you have a framed photo of your family, find some red pom poms and give everyone a red Rudolph nose. Pose your elf next to the frame and make sure it’s wearing a red nose too. As people notice it, you’ll definitely hear some giggles.

The Ball Pitter

Kids love ball pits and, as it turns out, elves do too! Grab a clear, plastic or rubber storage container, fill it with jelly beans or Skittles and pose your elf as if its having the time of its life.

The Chocoholic

Everyone knows that elves have a sweet tooth! The North Pole is just filled with gumdrops and candy canes. It’s totally understandable that your elf couldn’t help but indulge. Melt some chocolate, smear a little on its face and leave them surrounded by candy wrappers.

The Gym Rat

As a spy for Santa, your elf knows it’s important to stay in tip-top shape. That’s why they will go to great lengths to sneak in a quick workout. Cut a straw to an appropriate size and stick marshmallows on either end. Now, your elf is ready to pump some iron!

The Tree Climber

One of the best places to keep an eye on everything is from high above. Using red yarn, make a rope that hangs from the top of your tree and then pose the elf to look as though it’s climbing up to the top.

The Shopper

An important part of an elf’s mission is to give Santa the intel on his competition. Grab a red marker and pose the elf with flyers from popular stores, paying particular attention to the toys section.

The Voyage Home

All good things must come to an end so, to mark the elf’s final stay for this holiday season, set him up in a toy car or plane as it prepares to make his way back to the North Pole. See you next year!
