Last week, Facebook revealed one of its newer features called “Interest Lists”. Very similar to Twitter Lists, which have been around for almost three years now, Facebook’s Interest Lists will allow users to customize what information gets included in their news feed. According to TechCrunch, Facebook will be rolling out this feature over the next few weeks.

Interest Lists enable users to group together the status updates they want to see most by adding filters to their news feed. The lists will give users the ability to organize updates from Pages, Subscriptions, and friends into various collections of topics.

The lists can be accessed from the left navigation sidebar on the home page and can be clicked to change the news feed view to only the collection of stories from the list’s members. Content from the Interest Lists subscribed to will automatically get pulled into users’ main news feed as well.

You can subscribe to lists on almost any topic. Facebook uses these examples:

  • If you love football, subscribe to the NFL Teams interest list for a gridiron-focused feed. No need to check on each team in the NFL, your favorite athletes’ profiles, and ESPN.
  • If you’re into politics, subscribe to the 2012 US Presidential Candidates interest list to see updates from all the campaigns, or get posts from major newsoutlets like CNN, Fox, MSNBC, and the Wall Street Journal.

If you don’t see a list you like, or want to organize your content to best fit your needs, you can create your own. Customization options are available when creating a list, such as selecting whether the list will be public or private, as well as choosing the types of stories to be included.

You can get more details on how to create an Interest List by viewing the article, How To Create a Facebook Interest List.

If you have received this feature on your Facebook profile, have you started creating or subscribing to Interest Lists?
