I may currently live in sunny southern California, but I’ve spent winters driving in the snow in Pennyslvania, New York, and Michigan when I used to travel for work. With icy conditions, flurries gusting against the window, and cars driving at a snail’s pace, it was definitely nerve-wracking at best. The SocialMoms members have put together some winter driving tips to help you stay safe on the roads:

Southern Girl Ramblings says to keep your eyes on the prize. “Be sure to keep your eyes on the road at all times to avoid an accident. Though you should do this throughout the year, it’s imperative that you do it during the winter. This can help you notice icy spots before you slide across them.”

Clarissa Day by Day says to make sure you are driving around on good tires.  “It really makes all the difference to have tires with good tread while facing snow and icy conditions.  Slipping and sliding is not a good feeling while driving.  It can often be totally avoided by keeping your tires in good repair.”

Trying New Products begs you to slow down and watch the roads.  If it is raining and the roads are wet then I always turn off my cruise control. I don’t want to hydroplane and cause an accident. I also find that my stress level also reduces as I reduce my speed in bad weather. I seem to turn off the radio and stay more alert to the road conditions.

The Howard House suggests keeping the gas tank at least 3/4 full. “You could experience engine troubles when it’s really cold and your tank is close to E- because condensation can build up.”

Mommy’s Free Time tells you to know the details of your insurance policy..”This is one I had to learn the hard way. I had a minor fender bender and I had no idea what to do. Luckily I had an awesome insurance company and I was able to call them to get all the information I needed, including my policy expiration dates and updated details.”

It’s definitely important to have the best insurance coverage possible for your family vehicles. That’s where Esurance can come in. There are so many different policy types and discounts, it’s hard to know what policy is the best and most affordable. For more information, check out the tips and tricks they provide on the Esurance Blog, like mom-inspired driving tips, yoga for driverswinter driving tips and more!
