Top to Bottom Fall Trends
September 8, 2015
When it comes to fashion – no season brings about such excitement as the fall season. Full of texture, vibrantly rich colors and fabrics that evoke decades and even centuries past, the autumn season in the fashion world is a decadent one while still relying on simple basics. Find out what’s in store for you in the stores this fall, what you might want to add to your closet to update your look and take you through the holiday season looking sharp and in style.
Top it Off
Chunky sweaters made a comeback last year and this time around the options are even more abundant. Think of a cornucopia overflowing with chunky-knit sweaters of all designs. From the classic turtleneck style sweaters to crop-waist and boyfriend length to full-on sweater dress. Cable-knits and thick weaves abound this fall.
Speaking of turtlenecks, a thin version is making its mark this year as an ideal layering piece to have in your wardrobe. Neutral tones work best in grays, creams and black. Look for one with interesting details like buttons on the sleeves, lace overlay or sequin cuffs.
Moving past sweaters the look is simplified. Tartan plaids and windowpane prints are must-haves this season. In box-shaped tops to wear to the office or with jeans you cannot go wrong with these designs.
Simplified dressing is where it is at with a belted blouse. Yes, pussy bow blouses are still popular but they work best at brunch or the office. A belted blouse in silk or another flowing fabric makes a statement in its no frills elegance. Wear it to work for a look that means business or dress it up for a night out with a midi skirt or slim pants and heels.
Below the Belt
Comfy and casual chic has never been so easy than this year’s crop of leggings. Yes, I said leggings and I’m not talking about jeggings. Put those in a donation bin. They are done. Look for leggings with leather accents or zippers on faux pockets or at the ankles. Side details in a color or print work well too. Pair them with a set of booties and a long sweater or top and you are out the door.
Wide-leg or flare jeans are back! This statement making pants make legs look long and lean, this is never a bad thing in my book. Wear them with wedge heels or a platform if you are petite. If denim isn’t your style then take a look at the “throw-on” pant in a wide-leg. Worn at the office or on the weekend they are comfortable, don’t wrinkle but add polish to an otherwise casual look. Stock up in fun but neutral prints to add dimension to your outfit.
