It’s almost that time again: time to set your New Year’s resolutions! For many people—after overindulging during the holidays—health resolutions are high on their list. Whether your goal is to drop a few pounds, become more active, eat healthier, or better deal with stress, there are a number of apps that will help.

Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by MyFitnessPal

This app is one of my favorites because it’s so easy to use. Whether you are watching calories, sodium, fat, or sugar, this app can help. Included is a database of over six million foods to search. Or you can even scan barcodes when at the store to find out the nutritional information of your favorite foods before you buy them. It also connects with other fitness apps to monitor things like activity levels.

Couch to 5K

If you live a mostly sedentary lifestyle (like me) and want to slowly increase your activity level over time, this is the app you need. Unlike many exercise type apps, Couch to 5K will take you from not that active to capable of running a 5K. You only need to dedicate 30 minutes of exercise three times a week. If you’d like to increase the amount you run, Couch to 5K is a great choice.

Not everyone that wants to eat healthier has a goal of losing weight. Many people want to work toward better cholesterol levels or a healthier heart. If you’d like to really understand what’s in the food you eat, Fooducate is an app you need. It also helps track your sleep, mood and hunger levels. You can also track calories and allergens and any special health concerns.

Personal Zen

Stress and anxiety are things that I deal with regularly. I’ve tried a number of different apps and one that stands out for me is Personal Zen. It’s designed to help you relax and is based on clinical research. You travel through the world of Personal Zen and play a variety of different games created to help you manage stress and become more positive. For me, this app works much better than things like meditation apps.

Pocket Yoga

Pocket Yoga is a fun app that combines fitness with relaxation. There are a number of different types of yoga that are used for relaxation, exercise, stretching, mood management, and healing. You can look up individual poses and find routines that mesh with the goals you have. There are many different styles of yoga included on the app and you’ll find resources for beginners to experienced practitioners.
