The little black dress, a staple in every woman’s closet, knows no bounds. It is perfect for so many occasions, but it does need a break. Give it a rest this holiday season and venture deeper into your closet for some updated takes on holiday looks that still sparkle and shine all season long.

Party Wear & Gear

You have some place to be and it is going to a big event and a jolly good time. Now what do you wear? Think classics with a modern twist.

  1. Satin is a good bet to hedge for a night-time affair. Whether it is a blouse, pant suit (all the rage this winter) or dress, you can amp up your style quota by finding one in a deep forest green hue. Throw on a pair of statement earrings or a bib necklace to really rock it and shine.
  2. Nothing says winter holidays like velvet. Think tuxedo pants or a cigarette style in classic black. A sheath done up with velvet accents or a boxy top in a jewel or black tone paired with a pleated midi skirt or tailored trousers glams it up. Add a set of bejeweled or colored heels to bring it all together and you are ready to go.
  3. Not one for classic charm? Mix it up and serve it all with a dose of high fashion edgy style by pairing leather leggings or a leather mini skirt with a striped top. The classic Breton stripes in red, black or navy will pop against the black leather bottoms. Slip into some ankle booties or heels in a neutral color to round it out.  You can add more bits of color in a necklace or cocktail ring too.

Casually Styled

For a post-work holiday happy hour, that annual neighborhood Christmas party or just a friendly and festive brunch at home, these casually styled trends are most certainly posh and refined but relaxed enough for each setting.

  1. Denim and lace can do no wrong at these events. A black lace top in a flattering cut worn with trouser or skinny jeans and heels always looks smart. You can even wear ballet flats with the trouser jeans if you really want to feel comfortable. Create another look with a denim skirt in a midi or calf-length for another stylish but casual take.
  2. The monochromatic look never really goes out of style. It can be dressed up or down too. For a casual version try black jeans or trim pants with an off the shoulder or turtleneck sweater. Punch it up with a clutch but keep jewelry monochromatic too. The same rules apply in a champagne shade which creates an ultra-modern tone.
