New York Fashion Week might be all about the fall 2015 trends, but we want to know what’s hot and trending for spring, right now.  What can we expect to translate from the runways into our wardrobes and what’s worth keeping or tossing this season?

Just the Basics

Polo shirts are back and no longer the conservative pieces relegated to older gentlemen and little boys. This year expect them to look two ways. One style can be worn in a slouchy knit with the buttons undone. Option two is to wear it fitted and fully buttoned for a retro approach.

Two color combos that we will be seeing a lot of this year are black and blush or black and white. Using the blush pieces that were popular last spring, forgo pairing them with other pastels and add a slash of black as an accent to give the blush some edge. Black and white together never go out of style. Find basic ways to pair them up again in the warm weather months and you can’t go wrong.

When it comes to denim the jacket is still a closet staple. Boyfriend jeans continue to be in the mix as well as skinny and straight leg. The most popular wash for all of them this spring and summer is a medium blue. It creates an easy style that can be dressed up or down.

Pattern Play

Gingham is always in play during the spring and summer months. It conjures ideas of afternoons spent picnicking or attending a barbeque with friends. Skip the red, yellow and pink gingham prints we have seen in the years previous and go for the bold black or soft-hued baby blue. Each one is striking and looks perfect in dress, skirt or short pattern.

Embellishments

When it comes to strutting and showing off your look nothing does it better than a set of feathers or tassels. Whether it’s for day or nigh,t a brightly bedecked maxi with a tassel fringe or pom-pom edging can’t go wrong. Perfect for the summer months when feelings are more festive too. Feathers make a luxe statement when trimming a bag or collar. Expect to see a lot more of them come fall season as well.

Hey Sport

Sporty chic is having another go this season and it is playing hard ball. When it comes to laid back active style this trend is crushing the competition. From bright hues in orange, cobalt blue and red mixed with black accents to mesh wear and scuba fabric leggings, skirts and jackets the sporty chic look packs a solid punch. It works well after hours paired with heels or on a lazy Sunday with thick-soled sneakers.
