Need to look your best in the next few weeks?  Of course you do.  One of the best things about the holidays is that it gives you a great opportunity to try out new looks with your make-up.  So what is hot this holiday season?

Face Forward

There are several options for makeup for the holidays:

Metallic: Go golden like Carrie Underwood does for an appealing look in sparkling metallic hues.  Keeping lips nude lets your eyes take center stage when lined with black liner.  Tint your lids with a soft gold metallic shade shadow and add mascara to your lashes for extra oomph. It is a natural look that really shines and plays up your own beauty.

Smokey Brown: Make-up artist, Bobbi Brown launched her Smokey brown eye this fall with a palette of beautiful brown shadows.  This look really works for an evening event and it is more natural than the typical darker smokey eye in grey or black.  You can bring out your eyes by choosing a soft pastel brown or a shimmery shade to layer on your lids – then apply a deeper brown liner to highlight the shape of your eyes. Mascara makes those lashes pop.  A soft light peach gloss or creamy lipstick works well and creates a warm color palette.

Ruby Lips: Hollywood invented the look long ago and it still plays well each winter and holiday season.  The classic red lip goes great with black lined eyes and a soft, light pink barely there blush. Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine in Rebelle gives you a glossy lip that is easy to maintain and has a sheer finish.  Brushed brows and curled lashes with a dash of mascara complete the look.

Snowy White: By far the boldest look this season is one best kept for the final night of the year.  Rock the orange lips with white eye shadow a la Leona Lewis for a true diva take on the night.  Using white eye shadow like White Frost by MAC over the whole lid not only brightens it illuminates your eyes.  We are often told to play up only one feature per look but this style is all about attitude.  Paint your lips orange for a fresh take that will have you rockin’ any holiday party or ringing in the New Year.

Nailin’ It

Your nails are the perfect place to make a statement.  Deborah Lippmann’s ‘Christmas in the City’ 2012 mini collection features a gorgeously vibrant and sophisticated red with their ‘Run, Run Rudolph,’ a festive ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ and a pearly snow shade in ‘Let it Snow!’  Perfect for traditionalists but for those wanting more come New Year’s Eve Essie’s Luxe Effects collection is still going strong. Deep navy’s, bold metallics and dark burgundies are versatile, perfect for parties and can translate into the rest of the winter season too.

Don’t be afraid to change up your look this holiday season.  It just might change your outlook on the New Year too.
