It’s no secret that Royals Kate Middleton and Megan Markle are super influencers when it comes to fashion and trends. Despite their differences, the looks each one creates frequently sell out within moments of either of them appearing before cameras or out in public. Now both women are seeing red—making it clear that this commanding color will have a lasting impact on our own wardrobes this upcoming season.

Royal Red

Earlier this month both fashion-forward women were spotted out and about in red. Bright red. First, it was Kate for Commonwealth Day wearing a fired red brick Catherine Walker coat dress and matching fascinator. The look was bold with an added dash of vibrancy to the day. Next up was Megan decked out in a bright samba red Safiyaa cape dress with matching pumps and a complimentary red satin clutch with a jeweled buckle. While both looks were quite different in style and shade of red, each one made a powerful statement and created a buzz about the color red.

Spring & Summer Shades

Red was already a runway favorite for spring and summer, and now the fall fashion season showcased even more of this strong hue.

This fiery shade is hard to ignore. If you don’t want to command a lot of attention then don’t let it dominate your look. Instead use the accent on items like your lips, nails, a statement shoe, or bag to add a dash of color. Classic red lips, nails, and toes are always in vogue and never more so than the summer of 2020. Slather on the red gloss in an appealing poppy shade, dip your tips into a potent lacquer and grab that on-trend baguette bag for your next excursion.

Softer hues like scarlet red, found in simple dress cuts for spring, are a better bet when trying red out. Think a flowy sundress with a small floral print or an off the shoulder top to add a dynamic but not overpowering bit of brightness to your outfit.

Red is often a deep, sultry shade. While the weather is still playing it cool pair your statement red coat (that you can rock again this upcoming fall) with that patterned red dress. It’s a fresh breath of spring air before it turns hot this summer.

Take on Trends

Some of the spring and summer seasons biggest trends wear red well.  Colored leather is back this year. Pair a red leather skirt with a chic white top for a clean, crisp look. Have you always had your eye on a red leather bag? Carpe diem that desire and find the right satchel, tote, or crossbody for you. Big bags are also, ahem big this year. Take advantage and find one in a potent poppy or simmering red shade.

Polka dots play well in the warmer months and this year they are bold and beautiful. Find your dot style and size now to take on the trend. Consider small red polka dots against a white or black background and remember that red and polka dots are both neutral colors and prints.

Keep in mind that gold is another confident color and metal being used this spring/summer season. It pairs gorgeously with red in both new and traditional ways. Don’t be afraid to use what you already own with new items to keep things fresh.
