When a cold wind blows it chills you, right to the bone. The first hint at winter has come our way and baby, its cold outside!  Since the Farmer’s Almanac predicts another long, frigid freeze over the next few months it might be time to check out how your winter coat is faring.  The puffer vest won’t hold you over too much longer.  Find your ideal winter coat style right here and now.

XXL

Think oversized tailoring when it comes to winter coats this season. Everything from ¾ length coats in military or menswear cuts are going to be styled long and large.  You can find a boxy cut or one nipped in at the waist.  Anything goes as long as it is big and it is bold.  Go for color with vibrant reds, deep navy, luscious emerald-green or play it safe with basic black and beige.  Pastels and winter whites are another great way to bring this style front and center.  If you are looking for a winter coat that will keep you warm all winter long then forget the fur and climb inside one of these big beauties for a stylish bit of warmth that lasts all season and beyond.

A Cut Above

When tailored and structured are not your thing or you live in an area where a full winter isn’t needed then feel free to embark on an adventure with this seasons fun take on two styles that look great dressed up or down.

The Cape: Elegant and beautifully feminine in cut and style, the cape coat looks best on a small or thin frame. Seen on many catwalks for AW14 it sparked gorgeous knock-offs seen everywhere from high-end department stores to places like Forever21. Remember to skip the fringe. It’s not a poncho after all.

The Blanket: Love plaid, rich colors and bold patterns? A blanket is for you. Adjustable and comfortably warm the blanket can be belted and looks beautiful with denim or even over a suit. It is perfect for travel days too.

Pick a Decade

The 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s are running rampant within the latest looks. It is your job to find your favorite decade and incorporate some of it into your own wardrobe.  A winter coat is a great way to do this as many of the cuts and styles are classic cuts.

The Trench: Always in style, the trench coat is a safer bet for winter (find a good wool one) than the au courant robe style coat. Wear a trench in your favorite color or stick to black or camel for one that will last for years to come.

The Duvet: Do you remember those ankle length puffy coats from the 1980s? The duvet coat works for ultra-cold temps and is a chic way to stay warm and cocoon yourself this winter.
