Whether you’re wearing a light hoodie in the middle of January or recovering from the bomb cyclone, it’s never fun to come back to reality after the holiday season. Need something to boost your spirits? Get started on spring break planning! It’s a great time to catch some travel deals and before you know it, it will be time to get packing!

Flight Alerts

This is a good time to set up alerts for deals on flights. If you are a loyalty member with a certain carrier, start there, then check out the major booking sites.

You can also download apps, like Hopper, to keep an eye out for seat sales. In addition to keeping you up-to-date, the app will offer advice on whether you should jump on a deal or wait it out, based on predictions and price patterns.

Be Flexible

Unless you have your heart set on a specific destination, be open to going wherever the deals take you. This is a fantastic way to see some place new without paying top dollar.

Many of bargain reservations cannot be canceled or changed, so be sure you have all required documentation (a passport or visa, for example) and vaccinations before committing.

Review Your Points

Have you been collecting points on a credit card or loyalty program? Now’s the time to log in and see if you’ve made any progress.

Even if you don’t have enough to buy a flight or hotel stay, you may be able to use the points to bring down the cost. Use the money you save on an extra margarita by the pool!

Staycation Ideas

Not planning to actually travel over spring break? That doesn’t mean you can’t plan to have some fun. Most people are surprised by how many undiscovered treasures are within an hour’s drive.

Check local deals through sites like Groupon to see if there are any experiences or restaurants you can enjoy during your staycation.

Netflix and Chill

One of the best, most relaxing, things you can do for yourself during spring break is to plan a movie or television marathon. Make a list of all of the shows and films you’ve been wanting to see, get in your comfiest clothes, and veg out on the couch.

If you want to feel a little less slovenly, take it to the next level and create themed viewing parties. Invite friends and plan snacks, drinks, and/or meals around the theme.

With some planning and imagination, you can make spring break a wonderful and memorable experience—whether you plan to travel, stay home, or a little of both.

What’s on your spring break agenda?
