Let’s put that spring back in your step and add a dash of pep to your days. It’s time to talk spring and summer shoe styles. It’s all about easy-going comfort and style to feel the sun’s rays.  Elegance is more than a stiletto – it is also a slide or two to work that beach or poolside look.

Sporty Chic

Get ready for the slide show. When the temperatures rise the “it” shoe is going to be the slide. From slip on sneakers to the latest in clogs – and even your beloved Birkenstocks – we will be seeing a lot of slide shoe styles.

Find a pair in basic black or ultra-hip white. Go beyond the old Adidas slide and don a bejeweled or metallic pair to show off that pedicure. Bring out your inner animal nature and pick an animal print like leopard which pairs well with solids and stripes for a bit of mix and match pattern play. When it comes to slides and slip on sneakers you can wear them with basic looks and pare down a dress or skirt for a more casual effect. Own this athletic style!

Sweet Skimmers

The D’Orsay flat was everywhere last spring and summer. You can still wear them again this season too. For a sweetly demure look that is all polish with a dose of postmodern elegance, find a pair of skimmers in basic black or white to ramp up your wardrobe.

A pointed toe skimmer with an ankle strap adds texture to an outfit while giving your ballet flats a day off. Look for patterns like gingham, stripes or florals to add depth to a look. A tie instead of a strap is another great addition to the skimmer style shoe. Wear them with midi skirts, ankle pants, boyfriend jeans or ankle pants. Either way you will be showing off the sweet side of spring style.

When it comes to warm weather nothing says spring and summer shoe staple more than a strappy sandal. Sure, you can go for the stiletto heel, which never stops being fabulous, but let’s be realistic. We don’t wear those on the day-to-day, do we? Let’s find some alternatives to the stiletto sandal.

Your basic flat strappy sandal is never going to go away. Pick a style in brown and basic black to invest in and you will never falter. Want or need something more fun?  Find a style in your favorite color or a seasonal bright citrus hue like yellow, orange or pink.

Thick-soled sandals are cranking up the heat this year. Full of structure and padding they can be sporty or mod depending on the pattern, color combination or style. It’s yours to decide.
