Silly and Spooky Halloween Treats
October 8, 2012
You can’t have a Halloween party without some Halloween themed goodies. Here are some treats that are sure to keep the kids (and adults) happy. Best of all, they are all incredibly easy to make.
Monster Mouths
These healthy and fun treats will keep the kids coming back for more. All you need are apples, peanut butter, almond slivers, and raisins.
- Cut an apple into quarters. These will be your mouths.
- Cut a slice out of the center of the quarters for the mouth opening.
- Dip the slices in a lemon juice and water mixture so they don’t brown.
- Add a layer of peanut butter on the inside of the apple “mouth” opening.
- Take the almond slivers and put them in the center of the apples as “teeth.” The more the scarier.
- Next use a little peanut butter and attach two raisins for the eyes.
Viola! You now have kid friendly monster mouths.
Mummy Dogs
This is a Halloween play on pigs in a blanket. Purchase some croissant dough (or make your own). Cut the dough into long strips. Then just wrap the hot dogs with the stripes of croissant dough. Bake according to the directions and once you take them out of the oven, use mustard to make little eyes on the mummies.
Rice Krispies Pumpkins
Make your favorite Rice Krispies treat recipe and add a little orange food coloring. Instead of flattening the mixture into a pan, roll the treats into balls. Bake as usual and once you remove them from the oven you’ll have little pumpkins. Use a green candy, such as a spearmint hard candy or licorice, as the stem and you now have miniature pumpkins ready to eat.
Scabs
Fill a bowl with dried cranberries and label it as “Bowl of Scabs”. They may be only cranberries; however, a little labeling can turn them into the perfect Halloween party treat.
Dirt and Worms
This was always one of my favorites as a child and is super simple to make. Whip up a batch of chocolate pudding or cupcakes. Crumble chocolate cookies on top for the dirt and add gummy worms. You can even layer gummy worms in the bottom of the cup with the pudding and then arrange a few on top peeking out of the cup. This will certainly be a hit with the kids.
These are just a few really simple treats that will make your Halloween party a hit. What is your favorite Halloween treat to serve to friends and family? Do you use any of the recipes above?
