Each season we are bombarded with hot new colors, styles and combinations to test, try and hopefully keep.  Some ideas are better than others. Anyone still on board the harem pants bus? Breaking down the style into something that works can be difficult.  We want fashion that carries over to more than one season. It makes sense for our closets, wallets and sanity.  Check out three ideas that are trending this spring and can be used all year round.

The Pleated Skirt

Did anyone else besides me give a cheer when the pleated skirt made a comeback for this spring?  The thin pleated skirt is truly a chic item that every woman’s closet needs and it’s a style that looks good on everyone.  Updated for this year is the length; knee-length or midi-style and in soft pastel colors is best. Worn with a nipped waist blazer, simple boat neck or scoop t-shirt, the pleated skirt can be dressed to the nines or worn every day.  Pair it with heels and simple crewneck sweater or cardigan for an office look that is versatile.  Dress it down with oxfords on the weekends or ballet flats and a tucked button-down shirt and blazer.  It works in a variety of ways and with layering, thick tights and boots or booties it can transition to fall with ease.

The Bright Blazer

Blazers are so big right now and always in style that adding another one in a bright color just feels right.  They are available in so many places like your local Target, Old Navy, Forever 21 all the way up to pricier points like J. Crew.  Find a fit fast and pick a bright pink, aqua, yellow, coral or mint green that works for you and your skin tone in no time.

Pretty Pastels

Some might balk at the idea of wearing candy-colored pastels but the soft, muted shades right now also look fantastic during the cold winter months as a cool spot of color.  When mixed next winter with navy, black and grey you will be happy you picked up a pair of mint green or lilac jeans.  The soft pink sweater or bomber jacket will look sweet with a black pencil skirt and collared shirt too.  For now find a flattering shade and pick out a few pieces that work well with your current spring and summer wardrobe.  It will spice up your look and keep you on trend.  A light yellow pair of board shorts brightens a plain white t-shirt.  A pale blue set of capris will feel crisp any time you wear them too.
