The gray outside our windows makes it easy to start dreaming of the new looks that will be all the rage this spring.  Incredibly simple to incorporate, each of these trends will have you adding patterns and color to your closet in no time:

Contrasts in Black & White

Just take one look at Marc Jacobs latest collection and you have all you need to start wearing the hottest trend in fashion right now.  Contrasting black and white takes a note from the color-blocking style while being totally figure flattering.  Choose bold black and white in big or small stripes (you pick!) in a dress and pair it with a black blazer or pick a pair of white pants with a thick black stripe down the side with a sheer black button down or sweater for real winter attitude.  Take it up a notch and add bright colors like cobalt blue or red with black stripes to really make it pop. Old Navy has a wide variety of colors and black and white shirtdresses, sweater dresses and more.

Killing Them Softly with Pastels

Spring always brings to mind softly, sweet pastel colors that scream cute little bunnies and chicks – but not this year.  The muted peaches, nudes, periwinkles, aqua and pinks are everywhere from dresses to jeans, loafers to purses and all of it in between.  Stuart Weitzman’s ‘Naughty’ style patent pump in a light salad green looks great when matched with Theory’s oatmeal and gingermint Jilliane sweater and light washed jeans.  It makes the perfect casual date night look.  You can still rock your bright colors this spring but lightening up your wardrobe’s color palette will feel fresh and new just like the season itself.

Minimal & Monochrome

Now that you’ve mastered the soft side of this year’s pastel finds – it’s time for a little edge to go with that chiffon nude dress. Add a bit of black for the new way to wear monochrome.  Pairing a pair of black pumps, a black belt or other accessories in suede, satin or black leather creates a minimalist tone that we will be seeing a lot of in the upcoming months.  Go a step further and work a dark floral dress or pair of skinny floral pants with a black oversized blouse and black accessories for a graphic monochromatic take on this trend.  H&M has fabulously dark grey floral leggings and minis that brings the trend home.

This spring it is easier than ever to shop your closet, use your basic blacks and add key elements from these three trends to create looks that are very now.
