First things first, what is an herbal remedy? An herbal remedy is the use of plants or plant extracts to treat common ailments of illness. Here is a brief overview of some common ailments and some herbal remedies that can be used to treat them and keep you and your family healthy.

Athlete’s Foot

Virgin coconut oil works wonders on Athlete’s Foot. Virgin coconut oil is a natural anti-fungal and can be applied directly to the affected area.

Small cuts and abrasions

Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic. You can apply a small drop to the affected area for treatment. Aloe Vera can also be used to help speed up recovery time.

Diaper Rash

For a common diaper rash olive oil works wonders. Olive Oil (preferable extra virgin) creates a protective barrier and soothes sore skin. If the rash is a yeast infection (yeast rash) use virgin coconut oil. Its anti-fungal properties will smash out that yeast rash in no time.

Canker Sores

Black tea leaves have natural tannins in them that can be used as a pain reliever. Moisten the tea leaves and apply them directly to the soar. If you are using a tea bag that is fine as well. Simply wet the bag and apply it to the sore.

This is an herbal treatment that you see a lot in your typical grocery or drug store, Aloe Vera. However, many times the “Aloe Vera” treatment that you are getting contains numerous other “inactive” and unneeded ingredients. Instead of reaching for these pricey and artificial products, grab a real Aloe plant! These plants will produce lots of beautiful leaves that contain this healing salve inside. Simply crack open a leaf and apply the gel from the interior of the leaves to your sunburn.

Insect Stings

Stings can usually be treated with products straight from your kitchen. To help ease pain you can lay a slice of onion directly on the sting. You can also mix baking soda and vinegar together to form a paste. Apply the paste to the sting.

Razor Burn

Like a sunburn, you can apply Aloe Vera directly on the affected area. This will help ease the pain and swellings as well as redness.

There is an herbal remedy for most of your everyday ailments. You may want to give them a shot before reaching into your medicine cabinet. What herbal remedies do you use at home?

(As always if problems persist or continue check with your physician!)
