December 3, 2014

By the end of the year, doesn’t it feel like you are truly about to run out of steam?  The twelve months and four seasons really take a toll on us even if we are grateful for each and every day. We get ready to begin the whole cycle again with the new year, but too few of us pause to recharge for the adventure ahead. For this reason, it’s important that we take a little time for ourselves to get away from it all and cleanse our palates, so to speak. Here are some ways that you can give yourself the gift of a getaway this holiday season.

Check Out for a Weekend

If you can afford it, plan a weekend away from all of your daily stresses (including your friends and family). It’s a great time to be on the lookout for last-minute vacation packages that can allow you to have a couple of days of rest and restoration without breaking the bank.

Free Pass From Chores

Maybe you can’t get away because of time or money constraints but you can delegate some tasks to others or just let them wait an extra day. Too often, we spend our days bouncing from one chore to another. For just one day, give yourself a break from your to-do list and see how nice it feels to slow down for a change.

Have a Spa Day

Sometimes, a little pampering is all you need. Throughout the year, put all of your spare change in a jar. You might find that, by December, you have enough to pay for a nice spa day.  If not, you can always check local businesses for deals and even affordable monthly memberships. A massage, facial, sugar foot scrub or fresh mani-pedi can make you feel like a brand new woman.

Unplug for an Entire Day

There is so much noise in our daily lives. Not only do we have kids, coworkers and friends in our faces all the time but our televisions, smartphones, computers and tablets are also competing for our constant attention. You might be surprised by how drained we end up feeling as a result. To prove this point, why not unplug all of your devices for a single day. Let people know in advance that you won’t be replying to messages and phone calls (so that no one panics!) and give any necessary instructions for how to contact you in case of emergency but, aside from that, enjoy your time away. You may find that you like it so much that you start to schedule “unplugged” time on a regular basis.

Regardless of which approach you take, do your best to set some time aside that is just for you. Everyone deserves to recharge and restore now and again – and you’re not any different.  Your problems will still be there when you come back but your rested mind just might see things clearer.
