Many people are turning to natural remedies for stress and healing. Sales of herbs and organic foods are booming, and yoga is more popular than ever. But there’s one approach to stress that many people haven’t heard of: EFT tapping.

EFT practitioners claim it can help with everything from stress and pain to addiction and disease. The concept of tapping is based on Eastern Medicine dating back 5000 years. Advocates claim the method helps you tap into your bodies own energy and healing centers; many who’ve tried it say it has helped them. It’s an approach you can add to your life without any cost, tools, or pills. You can do it anywhere too.

What is EFT Tapping?

Like acupressure, EFT tapping utilizes areas of the body’s energy meridian points. Chinese medicine identifies 100 meridian points in the body. Tapping stimulates some of these points and moves energy. While you focus on your area of concern (for example anxiety, fear, or pain) you say certain statements (self-talk) while tapping gently on a sequence of meridian points. These points start with your hand, move to your head, face, chest, and under the arm. You stimulate these points while acknowledging your negative feelings, then you make statements to help resolve those feelings.

There are many skeptics of tapping, just as many are skeptical of eastern medicine in general. Still, tapping is growing a large following, and many people say they have found it helpful. Tapping has been used at Fort Hood and VA Veteran centers for people with PTSD, and is gaining acceptance across the globe. You can Google how to tap, follow an expert online, or find someone local to guide you through it. It is a pain-free method anyone can explore, even children. It combines self-talk with physical stimulation—and no needles—which makes it simple to give it a try.
