Having a baby comes with many compromises. Moms trade in their years of peaceful slumber nights, fresh smelling clothes and romantic evenings for the benefit of nurturing your new bundle of joy. Good news moms: one area where you won’t have to barter any longer is regaining a sexy belly.

A recent study published in The Journal of Nutrition found that drinking organic green tea combined with a moderate exercise plan helps you melt away those last few pounds lingering in your tummy. The test consisted of two groups of overweight adults in a span of 12 weeks. The study focused on elements called ‘catechins’ that are unique to green tea. ‘Catechins’ are powerful, water soluble polyphenols and antioxidants that are easily oxidized. They are 25-100 times more potent that vitamins C and E. The reason why ‘catechins’ are prevalent in green tea than any other type of tea is due to its least amount of fermentation that green tea undergoes. Black tea which also comes from the same plant as green tea, the camellia sinensis plant, is the most fermented kind.

In this study, one group drank high levels of ‘catechins’ with caffeine and the other had caffeine with no ‘catechins’ while both groups engaged in a 180 minute exercise routine per week. Green tea contains high levels of polyphenols which activate the enzyme that is responsible for dissolving excess triglyceride, an energy source which turns into fat causing obesity. Thus, green tea successfully aids in burning fat.

Not only that, green tea contains significant amounts of natural caffeine — an ambitious fat burner and endurance enhancer and always welcome in the lives of zombie mommies.

More importantly, unblended green tea contains zero calories whereas green teas blended with other herbs, flowers, spices, etc., contains little or no calories as well. It can’t get any better than that.

If you are new to drinking green tea, I recommend Jasmine Pearls at www.CaliforniaTeaHouse.com. Jasmine flower is hand rolled with green tea leaves giving a delicate aroma and taste. For the blenders, try Moroccan Mint which combines gunpowder green tea that will light a fire under you with a punch of mint. For the sophisticated, seasoned palate, be sure to check out the White Monkey Paw or Gunpowder.

So toss that abdominal binder out the window, brew yourself a tall cuppa green tea and bring your sexy back.
