January 23, 2013

Sundance 2013 was a bevy of celebs trekking through the snowy sidewalks to view the newest films. But all the focus wasn’t on just the big screen. Because, when the stars come out to play, even at Sundance, they do it with style. Here were the hottest looks from the snowy ‘scapes.

Winter Whites

Jennifer Hudson was chic in winter white this year in her thin puffy coat.  An array of celebrities showed off their own crisp white coats, crocheted hats, sweaters and more.  The key to wearing this snowy white color is to pair it with a darker color for contrast. Zara’s white knitted top with lace trimmed sleeves is a great example of this look. Sleek black sunglasses, a hat or gloves will make a coat look smart.  The double-breasted ruffle-trimmed coat from Garnet Hill is all class and dresses up your outfit each time you walk out the door.

Look of Leather

Whether it was skinny leggings, motorcycle style boots, skirts or even details on sleeves – leather was all over Sundance. Don’t be intimidated by leather. It’s an easy style to incorporate into your everyday wear.  Try a central piece (hello leather pants!) or accent with trim on collars, edged on sleeves or as Ellen Page did in sporting all black leather motorcycle jacket. Shailene Woodley rocked a brown leather trimmed media coat that kept her warm and the toast of Sundance fashion.

Get Furry

Sometimes it is just really cold and you want to pile on the layers, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.  Liv Tyler’s black and furry trapper hat added warmth without killing her look. You can get one of your own at J.Crew in the Toscana style. Fur trimmed hats and boots were seen on lots of stars and can be incorporated into your own wardrobe on these chilly days.  A fur-trimmed parka by Woolrich or Oakley keeps the cold air out and still keeps you toasty on the inside.

Animal Prints

Animal prints like leopard and cheetah were everywhere on the snow-filled streets.  Zebra print scarves and chunky rings showcasing jewel-encrusted cougars and panthers adorned many attendees this year.  Purses with jaguars on the clasp and bracelets adorned with lions faces or creeping leopards were a big hit.  While you shouldn’t try mashing them all together in one outfit, you can pair a grey and black neutral animal print scarf by ASOS with a thick silver ring for a look that pops.

Taking a cue from the stars at Sundance is a great way to punch up your winter style at just the right moment during these cold days.
