With kids heading back to school you may be struggling with a good after school snack. My daughter is in pre-k so she eats in the earliest lunch slot 10:30AM. Therefore, by the time she gets home she is ready for food. Here are some quick, easy, and freezer ready back to school snacks to help curb hunger till dinner time.

Frozen Applesauce

My daughter loves ice cream (what kid doesn’t), but it is not my idea of a healthy after school snack. Therefore, we use frozen applesauce instead. It is cold, sweet, and best of all healthy. Simply place some individual applesauce cups in the freezer and serve with a spoon. You can also do this with any fruit puree. Try pears or peaches!

Banana Pops

Like ice cream, my daughter also loves Popsicles. To make a healthy Popsicle alternative take a banana cover it in peanut butter and sprinkle with granola. You can put a Popsicle stick in the end of the banana and freeze. You just created a healthy and delicious Popsicle replacement. You can use almond butter or Nutella in place of the peanut butter as well.

Yogurt Ice Cream

Do you see a theme yet? Again, back to the “fake” sweets. Purchase a pack of small ice cream cones fill them with child’s favorite flavor of yogurt and top with nuts, granola, blueberries, or any fruit your child prefers. . You can serve them as is, or store them in the freezer for a bit to help them set up a bit more. These are a guaranteed hit!

Fruit Popsicle Treats

Try out a fruit Popsicle like this one from GoodLife Eats. You can take this to any level you like by substituting different fruits.

Watermelon Pie

This one takes a little more effort but if you kids love watermelon it is well worth the effort.
What you need:

  • 14 oz Can sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 oz Non dairy whipped topping thawed
  • 1/4 cup Lime juice
  • 2 cups Watermelon pieces
  • 1 Graham cracker crust

Combine sweetened condensed milk and whipped topping in a bowl then add in the lime juice. The add in your watermelon pieces and mix. Pour you “batter” into the pie crust and freeze until firm.

So after school snacks don’t have to be a battle! If you have a freezer and some creativity the possibilities are endless. What after school snacks do your kids enjoy?
